13:05 another reason you keep the J-10 suited is not only because of the Royal. You also have a chance for a Straight flush, Flush, Straight, Pair Jacks. Your odds of winning something go up dramatically by keeping the 10 of hearts along with the Jack instead of just the jack alone.
I love these video poker series. In case anyone is wondering about the royal flush draw at the end, here is how to calculate the exact expectation when drawing 1 card to the royal. Qs = 4,000 x 1 card = 4,000 coins Qc,Qd,Qh = 20 x 3 cards = 60 coins 9s,8s,6s,5s,4s,3s,2s = 30 x 7 cards =210 coins Ac,Ad,Ah,Kc,Kd,Kh,Jc,Jd,Jh =5 x 9 cards=45 coins all other cards = 0 x 27 cards = 0 coins. Add up totals and you get 4,315. 4,315 /47 cards = 91.8 coins expectation. Average payout is more than 3 times holding the flush (30 coins) The expectation is actually slightly higher when holding 4 to a royal and needing a ten because you can make 3 more paying pairs ( 10s arent a paying pair)
Why would anyone ever waste their time with this game A single pull even at max ( at least the casinos I've used) is 5 credits and the payout is iirc 2500 Say it's even 4000 credits That's a few hundred dollars. Maybe 400? For the absolute best hand Compare that to hitting huge on slots, table games, etc., where you're talking about 10s and even hundreds of thousands of dollars
WOW INSANE!! Thanks for the education on video poker “jack’s or better”. I appreciate your knowledge and it makes me reassuring I’m understanding the game! Sometimes I second guess my bet!!! Thanks
I thought I had video poker down pat, but I missed 3 of the hands due to the play concerning chances at getting a royal flush...you proved it on the last hand...but I am still skeptical...thanks for the info...
19:53 Easier way to explain why you hold the 4 card royal is out of 47 cards left in the deck 21 of those cards will give you a winning hand (4 queens, 3 Aces, 3 Kings, 3 Jacks, and 8 spades still left in the deck). To have those odds while going for the Royal Flush it's a no brainer.
Last hand happened to me few weeks ago in a real machine. Jack of clubs was missing for a Royal, and there was a 5 of clubs. Discarded the five and the jack of clubs appeared! About one week later got on the same machine a royal holding Ace-Queen of hearts. And 10 days after (but on another machine) got dealt 4 to a royal with King of clubs missing, and made another one! Three royal in about two weeks, and max 10.000 hands played.
Really good info thanks a lot. I play almost the same but I like the flush lesson in the end and holding two of the lowest high cards instead of all three cuz then you have three shots at the jacks or better with those in lieu of just two
15:32 the reason you go for the 4 card flush over the low pair is because there are 9 hearts left in the deck that can get you a winning hand. Versus only 2 cards (the 2 remaining 8s) to give you a winning hand had you held the 8s.
17:16 In this situation I would play for the 3 card Royal. It's 3 high cards to the Royal and to top it off, it's 3 consecutive high cards. If it was a 10, Q, K, of clubs then I would keep the high pair as the pair of 10s don't give me anything.
Good stuff and very valuable information if you want to play video poker seriously and perhaps win once in a while. The only Royal Flush I ever had was dealt to me in the first hand with max bet.
Please explain why you keep low pair. When you keep a low pair, you only have 2 chances to improve. If yo discard them and keep 1 or 2 high cards, you have 3 or 6 chances to improve. Thanks, Dan
Hi Dan. This is a common question I get. The expected payoff for holding the low pair more than makes up for their slight infrequency in improvement. You can improve to 2 pair, 3 of a kind, full house, and 4 of a kind more easily holding a low pair. While it is easier to make a pair of jacks or better holding the high cards, most of the time you will win back your 5 credit bet, not to mention it will be harder to make 2 pair or higher than it would when you start with a pair. Hope this helps.
SOMEONE ANSWER Does anyone have a good coin betting strategy such as starting with 1 coin then increasing to 2 coins after a win then 3 coins after a second win then going back to 1 coin after a loss? I've tried many experiments, just wondering if anyone has a certain game and coin betting strategy that works all the time
my casino has 9/6 jacks or better two pair pays 1:1 AND jacks or better pays 1:1 Since they both pay the same, When I have 2 pair, should I just keep one pair (jacks or better) and draw 3 cards in hopes of getting 4 of a kind or keep the 2 pair , with no chance of 4 of a kind, to go for the full house ?
4:50 you hold the two same suited high cards king jack because very easy to make money back and you can actually make a straight flush or two pairs or even a straight As u were already intending by getting a ten
He actually played it right. You hold A, K, Q, J because you have more outs to make a paying hand. 10, J, Q, K or A will all give you a paying hand. This is strictly by odds.
going to vegas this weekend, decided to brush up on my JOB video poker by watching your videos. It would be great if you did another one of those 100 hand things with the traffic light that shows if a mistake is made. Love your videos man!
I can do that, though I won’t be able to before your Vegas trip as I’m currently in Northern Nevada right now with family for the rest of this week. I have some big win pics from the trip so far that I’ll share later in the week. Have fun and good luck in Vegas! 🙂👍
A. You'd play them exactly the same. An outside draw is obviously better (you have two chances to hit the big money), but even if you miss the straight flush, there are still plenty of cards that give you a solid consolation prize (i.e., a straight or a flush). This happens about 1/4 of the time, but you're dealing with at least a 4x payout here. B. Go for the straight flush.
9/6 describes the payoff for a full house and a flush - 9x your bet on a full house, 6X your bet on a flush. The casino sets the pay table for that game. Pay tables can differ between casinos, between machines in the same casino, or even between different denominations on the same machine.
The reason you dont hold the Ace is you pigeon hole yourself into an inside straight by keeping the J, K, A. Only a Q and 10 can make you the straight for a payout. You have more "Outs" (cards that will make you a paying hand) by holding just the J,K. There is statistical math behind this strategy. Which is why a 3 card straight flush with an A (A, 2, 3 suited) is worth less than 3 consecutive suited cards (3, 4, 5, suited)
mistake made at 10-16. I would have kept the ace four of diamonds. which is a possibility of straight flush plus you still have the ace to hit at least jacks or better. by keeping the king jack you only have one extra card for jacks or better and no chance of straight flush. a possible suggestion is to take such as 200 hands and clip out the ones were any poker player would automatically do even a beginner as "dead air" which was almost all the hands. then remove that fluff and filler and show only critical hands to condense it down.
No mistake was made. If there was, the traffic light in the lower right corner of the screen would light up yellow or red. Regardless, I looked up the expected value for your suggestion. Holding the A4 of diamonds has an EV of 0.39 coins per 1-coin bet. Holding the KJ as shown in the video has an EV of 0.48 coins and is therefore the best play.
I noticed on a couple hands that you tossed face cards and kept low pair. Result was loss but holding the two face cards would have resulted in 2 pair. Apparently the paper odds are better to hope for another pair on draw, but seems like the chances would be better to pick up one or both held face cards?
You should always toss the face cards and keep the low pair, regardless of the results of the draw. When holding the pair, you’re not just hoping for a second pair, but also 3 of a kind, full house, or 4 of a kind.
Good video...i think most people that watch your vids are players....dont waste time on the obvious hands....like your tutorials. Royal on last hand...awesome! What is software?

Mike - new to the game and like to get started with Jack's or Better. But at the casino kept seeing Ultimate Video Poker machines .Or other machines with jacked up payouts.Advise?
Hi Dave. Are you saying that you cannot find a jacks or better game to play? Most casinos should have standard single-hand jacks or better available. Please clarify if needed.
Hi Mike Yes did find a couple. But the majority of machines are extreme bonus or multiplier variety.Want to start out with only Jacks or Better. Will get back with follow up
In Jacks or Better, If you have 3 unsuited high cards, one of which is an ace, the best play is to hold the other 2 high cards. When holding all 3, the best hand you can get after the draw is a straight, with 3 of a kind and two pair also possible. Holding just the KQ allows for other hands to potentially come on the draw - including 2 ways to make a straight (AKQJT, KQJT9), a full house, and 4 of a kind - as unlikely as it may seem. As a result, this slightly makes the expected value of holding KQ higher than holding AKQ. Hope this helps you understand. Glad you are enjoying my videos and thanks for your subscription!
How come so many kings. I thought these games were based on a 52 card deck. On your third hand You held on to a pair of aces and discarded a king of clubs to which you drew a king of diamonds. Then on the next hand the machine gave you another King of diamonds.
You can play this exact game (and more) at www.videopoker.com The training mode (traffic lights) require a subscription, but the games themselves are free.
Hi James, I assume you are talking about the viewer quiz in the final part of the video. Sure, though it may be a while before I make them. They will likely be made as separate add-on videos to the current series.
I mean, pulling a royal in a tutorial video deserves a like and a sub. I enjoyed the rest of the video too. Couldn't find anything quite like this so thank you for producing it.
Two cards to a royal flush - a common occurrence. Strategy is to hold 2 to a royal in most VP games assuming that there is no better option. Notable exception is Ace-Ten suited.
I'm not sure what you mean by payouts being a little off. Shown is a 9/6 pay table (also known as "full pay") and offers a payback percentage of 99.54% and is the most generous payback one can find anywhere when playing Jacks or Better. One cannot find a Jacks or Better game on any video poker machine anywhere in New York State with such a generous pay table. Also, "full pay" Jacks or Better, if played properly, has one of the lowest house advantages and unlike slot machines, is skills-based. On a related note, drawing that royal flush in the demonstration was amazing. Kudos!
This guy is wrong. He keeps non winning pairs, and throws away non wining face cards. It's simple arithmetic. Keep the face you have 3 targets, and 4 shots to get a win. Keep the pair, and you have 2 targets, and 3 shots to get a win. You get better pay if you win but costs far more chances of getting the win. Keeping the face keeps open all other better wins. Keeping the pair costs you all straights, and flushes And it costs you the 3 targets with 4 shots. This guy has such bad simple arithmeticI won't bother to post what's wrong with the rest of his BS. Even if you are one card short of a royal flush you are better off keeping one face throw the rest away, and shooting for an easy 3 targets with 4 shots jacks or better win. The basic rule is you place your bet to get a maximum of 10 shots at getting a winning hand. Take what's easiest to get, and move on to the next play.
Wow. Did you even notice the traffic light at the bottom right corner of the screen? It shows the best strategy and you will notice that it always tells me that I’m correct to hold the low pair over the face cards. If you did some proper research, you will see that every strategy guide will tell you to hold the low pair. The basic strategy with video poker is to hold the cards that give you the highest expected value (EV). When holding the pair, you don’t have just “2 targets” as you suggest. Besides 3 and 4 of a kind, you can also get 2 pair or a full house. The odds are not as bad as you make it seem either. You need to take into account every possible combo of cards that can come on the draw. Not to mention, holding a single high card will most of the time win you just your 5 credits back, assuming you do win. You do not get enough straights or flushes to justify discarding the low pair in favor of 1 or 2 high cards. Overall, even though the probability of winning anything might be better when holding the high cards, the payoff for 2 pair, 3 of a kind, full house, and 4 of a kind more than make up for it, resulting a higher EV for the low pair compared to 1 or 2 high cards.
@@ClubMikeV You're still wrong in simple arithmetic. Lets say you get the more likely face card win because of the 3 targets with 4 shots. Now you're in the exact same position as you are with the low pair. You still have 2 targets, and 3 shots to get the 3 of a kind, and the 2 pair, the full house, and the 4 of a kind same as you would with the low pair. If you don't get the 3 of a kind or anything else you still have a wining hand. Also if you don't get the face pair you have the chance to get the straights, and flushes which you absolutely don't have keeping the low pair Even if you have no face card you still discard the low pair because keeping it costs you 2 shots at getting a winning pair the easiest win to get. Worse by throwing away the better chance of a jacks or better you have in fact rdoubled your original bet but only get the reduced number of 3 shots at winning a reduced number of wins. it's so simple I'd have to cut a hole in your head, and pour it in with a tea pot to make it simpler.

Qs = 4,000 x 1 card = 4,000 coins
Qc,Qd,Qh = 20 x 3 cards = 60 coins
9s,8s,6s,5s,4s,3s,2s = 30 x 7 cards =210 coins
Ac,Ad,Ah,Kc,Kd,Kh,Jc,Jd,Jh =5 x 9 cards=45 coins
all other cards = 0 x 27 cards = 0 coins. Add up totals and you get 4,315. 4,315 /47 cards = 91.8 coins expectation. Average payout is more than 3 times holding the flush (30 coins)
The expectation is actually slightly higher when holding 4 to a royal and needing a ten because you can make 3 more paying pairs ( 10s arent a paying pair)

I think I agree with everything but an open ended straight is too tempting to stick with a small pair instead lol
at 5:40, can you please elaborate on why you would discard the A?
I can't believe you had a Royal on the last Hand it sure seemed like it was Staged but I believe you.... That was great thanks!
At 14;49,it looks like a type 3 straight flush ,2 gaps with no high cards so i thought you go with high cards on this one!
where can I find the download for video poker genius to practice with?
Another reason to go for 4 to the Royal is you still have outs another spade or a Queen for the straight to save the hand...
17:16 In this situation I would play for the 3 card Royal. It's 3 high cards to the Royal and to top it off, it's 3 consecutive high cards. If it was a 10, Q, K, of clubs then I would keep the high pair as the pair of 10s don't give me anything.

Great questions at the end! Very informative
Does anyone know where I can play this exact game?
A. Is there any inside or outside straight in “Four to a straight flush”?
B. A♥️ 2♥️ 4♥️ 5♥️ A♠️. Go for straight flush or go for high pair?
Thanx.
A. You'd play them exactly the same. An outside draw is obviously better (you have two chances to hit the big money), but even if you miss the straight flush, there are still plenty of cards that give you a solid consolation prize (i.e., a straight or a flush). B. Go for the straight flush.

You are a great teacher.
Thank you mike v likes watching your videos thanks again
In approximately 9:03 minutes you went for a gut shot and you said earlier never go for gut shots. Correct me if I’m mistaken.
That’s not a gutshot. That’s an open-ended straight draw (5-6-7-8).
ClubMikeV thanks, as you can see im new to this kind of game haha.
AB-6798 No worries. 👍
Excellent video, thanks for your help. Really informative for a beginner like me.
What does 9 6 pay table mean? Do you get to choose from different pay tables??
9/6 describes the payoff for a full house and a flush - 9x your bet on a full house, 6X your bet on a flush. The casino sets the pay table for that game. Pay tables can differ between casinos, between machines in the same casino, or even between different denominations on the same machine.
On the 94th hand 24AJK why not hold the 3 high cards rather than just the J and K?
The reason you dont hold the Ace is you pigeon hole yourself into an inside straight by keeping the J, K, A. Only a Q and 10 can make you the straight for a payout. You have more "Outs" (cards that will make you a paying hand) by holding just the J,K. There is statistical math behind this strategy. Which is why a 3 card straight flush with an A (A, 2, 3 suited) is worth less than 3 consecutive suited cards (3, 4, 5, suited)
14:40 Why is the low pair better than 4 to an open ended straight?
I think because you have only 2 cards for the open ended straight. While you have more cards to make a 2 pair, or better.
Hi how and where do we get the software...n does it work on pc and phone? For jacks and better..thanks
It’s videopoker.com on your browser. It works on both pc and mobile. There is also a dedicated app for mobile.
By any chance do you know of any training software for mac?
Where can I download this game?

Seems like you always break even when you win or get steadily slaughtered.
mistake made at 10-16. I would have kept the ace four of diamonds. which is a possibility of straight flush plus you still have the ace to hit at least jacks or better. by keeping the king jack you only have one extra card for jacks or better and no chance of straight flush.

correction last part of video you did do what I suggested
No mistake was made. If there was, the traffic light in the lower right corner of the screen would light up yellow or red. Regardless, I looked up the expected value for your suggestion. Holding the A4 of diamonds has an EV of 0.39 coins per 1-coin bet. Holding the KJ as shown in the video has an EV of 0.48 coins and is therefore the best play.
But why would you take the 2 kings instead of the flush in this situation

In Jacks or Better, If you have 3 unsuited high cards, one of which is an ace, the best play is to hold the other 2 high cards. When holding all 3, the best hand you can get after the draw is a straight, with 3 of a kind and two pair also possible. Holding just the KQ allows for other hands to potentially come on the draw - including 2 ways to make a straight (AKQJT, KQJT9), a full house, and 4 of a kind - as unlikely as it may seem. Can you make another video like this
Hi Roman,
Can you clarify what you mean with your question? Are you talking about more videos with a quiz at the end like this one?
More practice like this one where you go through 99 hands and then the quiz at the end. Just like a second session .
I mean, pulling a royal in a tutorial video deserves a like and a sub. I enjoyed the rest of the video too. Couldn't find anything quite like this so thank you for producing it.
Why did u keep a King and 10 of clubs instead of just a King?
Two cards to a royal flush - a common occurrence. Strategy is to hold 2 to a royal in most VP games assuming that there is no better option. Notable exception is Ace-Ten suited.
Your payouts are little off, but I guess it depends on the casino!
Kudos!
holding 2 paint cards of a different suite isn't the correct play.never will draw to a royal if you do that
Nice RF 😭
Its not staged. It’s just set up lol
This game is fun but rigged.
This goes too fast for me.
a couple OF aces NOT: a couple aces!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lord you're going way too fast. Explain why you're holding which ones...
You go way too fast

Worse by throwing away the better chance of a jacks or better you have in fact rdoubled your original bet but only get the reduced number of 3 shots at winning a reduced number of wins. it's so simple I'd have to cut a hole in your head, and pour it in with a tea pot to make it simpler.
can you be a gambling channel and not have audio that sounds like complete shit?
That WAS staged. You are a liar.
