    Mike, what online casinos would you recommend for playing video poker? I like the one you're playing in this video. I'd like to play ultimate X but don't know where to go.

      Hi Shelly. It depends on the jurisdiction you are located in. Most online video poker games come from various software providers and are usually simple single hand and multi-hand games. The good news is that IGT does provide online versions of its VP games to online casinos, however since IGT only does business with online casinos that are properly licensed, the choice of sites to play their games at are limited, especially from the United States. Four states - New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Michigan - have fully legalized online casino gambling. If you live in or regularly visit these states, you can try and search for any of the online sites based there. I can confirm that Golden Nugget New Jersey's online casino has Ultimate X. I have not checked anywhere else at this time. If you are in any other US state, you are limited to the few offshore sites that willingly take US customers. Bovada / Ignition have simple single-hand VP games. Hope this helps!

    New to game.If you have Ace and 2 face cards unsuited why do you not include the Ace in your 2 cards?

    • @ClubMikeV
      @ClubMikeV  6 років тому +10

      Holding 3 unsuited high cards that includes an ace reduces the possible straights you can make. For example, you are dealt AKJ64. If you hold AKJ, the best hand you can achieve is the broadway straight (AKQJT). Holding only KJ will allow the possibility to draw 1 of 2 straight combos (AKQJT and KQJT9) and possibly draw a full house or 4 of a kind.
      As unlikely as it may seem, allowing for the possibility of 2 straights, a full house, or 4 of a kind by drawing 3 cards outweighs the perceived benefit of holding all 3 high cards and drawing 2.
      Using a hand analyzer, the expected value of holding KJ is 0.483 per 1 coin bet. The EV for holding AKJ is 0.456 per 1 coin bet.
      Hope this helps!

    I'm thinking seriously about making a visit to Vegas with the sole intent of making money gambling and want to ask you a quick question.
    I don't want to put you on the spot, but may I ask what you make of all the people(particularly those who comment on YT videos) who say things like they win every time they play, or almost every time, thousands of dollars a week, every week of the year, and never put more than like $200 in the machine?
    I find it hard to believe, but yet they are saying it. I question it but wonder why they would lie about it, what do they have to gain? My doctor even told me once that he hits a Royal Flush every time he goes to Vegas; how is that possible?
    I've bought the books and software to learn how to play the optimal strategy and know the chance of getting a Royal Flush in JoB is about 1 in 40,000 on average(if one plays the optimal strategy) so even if someone plays 800 hands an hour, it would take 50 hours just to have a decent, fair/average chance of hitting the Royal, but because of variance it could easily go through two or three cycles without hitting.
    When I hear/read stories from people talking about how they win all the time it makes me wonder if they know something I don't and if I'm doing something wrong. I mean, I simply play the game by the book, as closely as I can to perfect like a computer would(I can tell you when to break a high pair, extremely rarely, and when to hold 4 to an inside straight, again, extremely rarely in JoB) but yet I still lose a lot; how can they possibly win as much as they do, or as much as they claim to?
    Do such stories ever phase you, or do you just dismiss them all as BS?

    • @shellythomas6465

      I thought it was just me who noticed that...people who win every time they go to LV, and massive amounts at that. How is that possible?!?!?!?! A RF every time you visit. Wow. I play online and offline and never have won like that. I invest a lot of money and I'm an advanced player, but I never win like that.

    first mistake - you didn't play highest betting/payment level...

    • @ClubMikeV
      @ClubMikeV  5 років тому +6

      Actually, this video poker game does not have a “highest betting level.” Pay attention to the payoff for a royal. In this video, I’m betting $1. The payoff for a royal flush is $800. Multiply the bet by 5 for a $5 wager and the payoff for a royal goes up to $4000, the same as a 5 credit max bet game at a casino.

  • @briangray925
    @briangray925 6 років тому

    not sure if it matters but if you throw the whole hand away isn't better to keep a 10 if you have one, 1 to the royal? or 3 to the flush? and I know you bet four only for the 30 dollar challenge, I wonder what the money difference would have been if it were a 5 bet? Figure that out and get back to me lol (just kidding) thanks for the vid. It's funny how those flush draws miss so many times. In our head we think they should show up more but they are always only a 25% chance every time.

      9/48 = 19%

    • @mydogskips2
      @mydogskips2 6 років тому

      +Brian Gray Every hand has been analyzed by a computer and strategies devised to give the player the best chance to win, or at least lose the least amount of money while playing.
      Why would you hold a 10, in JoB it doesn't pay anything if you get a pair. Sure, it's one card to a Royal Flush, but you have to consider the odds of getting the Royal Flush, which are extremely low. The expected value for any play is the payout x the probability of getting any particular hand that pays.
      3 cards to a flush is the same thing, the odds of it happening, of drawing two suited cards and getting the flush are so low(you said so yourself, "It's funny how those flush draws miss so many times. In our head we think they should show up more but they are always only a 25% chance every time.") and the payout is such that it's not worth it to go for it, it's a better play to discard the whole hand and get 5 new cards. I will tell you however that the last hand you hold before discarding all 5 cards is a 3 card straight flush with two gaps, that is a double inside draw, like 8,7,4 suited, you need both the 5 and 6 of the same suit to complete the straight flush. But since the straight flush pays 50x the bet(the flush only pays 6) it's worth going for. I say last hand/play before discarding all 5 cards because if you have anything else that would be considered better you would hold it instead, even a just single high/face card for instance.
      I cannot tell you the exact figures, but Full-pay Jacks or Better has a theoretical 99.54% payback with optimal strategy play IF the player plays Full Coin, always making the max bet, so if there is a bonus for hitting the Royal Flush playing max credit/full coin, which there usually is, it would be a huge mistake to play anything less than full coin, the payback is reduced significantly to something like 97 or 98%.
      Let me put it this way: If you hit the Royal Flush playing full coin/max bet you will get 800x your bet, but if you play anything less you will only get 250x your bet if you hit the Royal. I think 800x is a lot more than 250x, and yes, that does make a huge difference, it affects the overall payout of the game itself.
      Or let's put it another way: If you hit the Royal Flush playing 4 coins you will get 1000 coins, but if you hit the Royal Flush playing 5 coins you will get 4000 coins; you would have to hit the Royal Flush four times playing 4 coins to get the same amount you would get for hitting the Royal Flush just once playing 5 coins.

  • @bunkman64

    3:47 If there is a single Jack showing with also a pair of 5's, wouldn't it be smarter to hold the Jack and trash the 5's? This would give you 4 chances to get another Jack as opposed to 3 chances to get another 5?

    • @ClubMikeV
      @ClubMikeV  6 років тому +4

      Holding a low pair is always better than a single high card. The payoff for 3 of a kind more than makes up for the lower probability of getting a third 5.

      Bunk Man holding the low pair gives you more cards to make your hand with. Any pairs that are dealt that are between2 and10 won't help your jack but will give you two pair with the low pair you kept.

    • @bunkman64
      @bunkman64 6 років тому +1

      I see. I was thinking that by holding just one face card you would have a one in 4 chance of getting another face card, possibly more.

      In standard Jacks or Better, optimal strategy is to only go for open-ended straight draws (example: 6789). In this case, it was a gutshot (678T). In other video poker variants, such as Double Double Bonus, holding the gutshot draw would be correct.
