- Welcome to a video on weird things that I have found in Rome Total War.
From them magical battle red lines, to who garrisons the towers, and cowardly, garden gnome androids.
Any weird things in Rome Total War that I missed?

I've been sitting on this idea for a while, but was always unsure.
It's just meant to a very non-serious, and hopefully funny video on weird stuff. What did people think? : )
MELKOR this made me laugh so much😂
i think its funny, i just used my fantacy a little bit, its not bad this reminds me of my childhood when i was 6 or so, i'm 24, no one is to old for making such funny imagonations of fantacy,
when i play total war custom battles, some times i create a little storry in my head and play some battles so that i am not borring anymore for a while, maybe its an good idea to make(even if its just 1) self made little storrys or storry if you know what i mean, its just an idea.
an example:
lets say on rome total war every faction where ones ellys and lovely brothers, but then came the rebbel plaige(slaves faction), no one knows where they come from and so is the age of confusion began, the rebbels infected all nations, now all factions ar now like in the old days, total war is back.
Liked it a lot. Also liked how you did not mention Rhodes. Bit odd to not hear you snickering...
One more thing about the wardogs, they actually don't care about the red lines! They will chase their enemies beyond the magical red line! It's probably because dogs are colorblind.
XD
Azuro Templar that’s because dogs don’t understand the Rules of War and don’t know that it’s unchivalrous to chase past the lines.
Colorblind 😂
It’s because dogs are bloodthirsty & want a bite of your sausage.
too bad the narrator will simply stop the battle when all enemies leave the battlefield
You gotta eliminate units entirely, so the dogs retarget to the nearest enemy before they hit the red line. Its actually a big deal in tournament mp games. Guiding the dogs back to the enemy troops is really valuable.
Nothing beats the diplomacy for weirdness
Accept or we will attack
Please do not attack
XD That should have been the thumbnail
All your base are belong to us. It is time to submit to the kindly rule of Pharaoh.
In Rome, a distant faction agree to give you their own city just to declare war on you
@Robzah It doesn't because I always attac
Medical total war AI keeps demanding money from me while I am at war with it
In ancient times every man's hair turned grey exactly at an age of 50.
There were only two seasons, winter and summer back then that were equally 6-month long.
You could see Italy from Greece.
No one had more than 4 children.
No settlement could build more than one religious building.
Only one building could be built at a time.
Carthaginians could only use a bow on top of an elephant (The Britons could only on a chariot).
When a settlement was under siege, an exact proportion of men from each unit suffered casualties.
The horsemen and their horses lived in symbiosis: if one of them died, the other did, as well.
Rebellion cities could amass a massive full stack gold tier professional army out of thin air from a village in the middle of nowhere with buildings & a 419 population.
Nepte and arabia be like:
This comment is yes.
"When buildings fall straight down like that we all know it must be a conspiracy."
*the CIA wants to know your location*
XD
Gauls can’t melt steel beams.
@@thelastroman7791 Neither can the Egyptians, which is why ingame they are still in the Bronze Age.
Bruti Wardogs: ok guys dot kill the Green ones only those Withe Greek ones.
Mercenaries: nice
The age of the phalanx never ends, the reason it isn't used in modern day armies is because it is too overpowered and it is listed as a human rights violation to deploy a phalanx on a bridge. Think about it constructions like chariots break in a single hit, how would a tank fair? They are counted as cavalry (or at least the regiments keep tradition). I know what your thinking, bullets and bombs well sorry, see the raised spears? Those can deflect any projectile perfectly combine this ancient form with modern technology and you have a tactic that can bring about the destruction of all.
Some medieval 2 stuff:
Knights can magically conjure lances from the air when they charge, and can do so multiple times.
Trebuchets have wheels. I know it's for gameplay convenience I just think it's funny.
Siege towers can roll up steep inclines without falling down.
Archers don't actually pull their bow strings, they just conjure arrows upon the command "Fire!"
XD Thanks for these, i'll be sure to use some
: )
Dude your videos are really good, I love it
Thanks, I think I've seen some of your stuff. : )
Oh wow
Didn’t think I’d see you here
Roman general: Alright lads today we shall commend battle. But before we start what size and terrain should we make due?
Roman Centurion: I'm not sure. Maybe plains?
Roman advisor: Yeah plains.
Roman general: Ok... Now what size shall it be.
*The centurion and advisor looked a bit confused and eyes wide open*
Roman advisor: Well... we could have it like a square size?
Roman centurion: Nah let's just have a circle.
Roman general: Hmmmmmmmm ok. Let me think
*Roman General thanks the idea of making the map size a square to Roman General*
Roman general: Alright lads, LET THE BATTLE COMMENCE.
*3 hours later, the Roman's won the battle and a roman legion is chasing down a group of gauls.*
Roman legionnaire #1: Get back here bois!!
Garlic shirtless man: cmon man you won, just leave us be!!
Roman legionnaires #2: Shut up garlic! Come to meh!
*The gaulic soldiers pass the red line and as their cross the rest of the legionnaire stopped, but one of them was shocked.*
Roman legionnaires #3: Wait, why did we stop? We almost had them, why!
Roman centurion: Because that the RED line!
*The third legionnaire was confused and shocked at what his own officer said*
Roman Legionnaire: So you mean to tell me, that anyone crossing the red line while retreating cant be fucking captured anyway?
Roman centurion: Yeah.
*Unfortunately the writer got bored and died of a heart attack*
can we get an F for Elite Civil Protection Unit #4609 who has died of a heart attack? Many a man on the battlefield has died of a heart attack hundreds of meters from the nearest unit swinging a sword, and this man appears to be one of them.
When Hastati kept their pilums behind the shield, I find it more weird when Hoplites switched from spears to swords: where the hell do they keep their long spears?!
They stick it up their arse :)
Wouldn't you want to know weather boy
Gta pockets
Throw them the ground
Assassins in Rome are tall, bearded, muscular men with no shirt and a giant club. Not exactly the embodiment of stealth.
and a singular pauldron as if they are a gladiator
a noble of your kingdom lives mostly until his 70s.
but a simple unit of soldiers can live forever.
Arda Demirkale no, the soldiers are androids...
2:47 in their inventory duhh
Ahh, of course. : )
MELKOR : )
The Master Comedian strikes back with an entire video!
The weirdest? All of it.
Nothing in Rome makes sense.
Melkor: they don’t drink water they don’t swim in water and they don’t fight in water. So they must be androids.
Me: seems legit
Tower guard: I shall defend this settlement!
*enemies breach walls*
Tower Guard: I will never forgive the prank that the legionaries played on us guards that one time!
2:40 In real life they had them Behind the shield , 3 - 2 pilas .
ok
Well, yesterday, I was playing RTW as the Brutii, I was at war with the Gauls, they sent a diplomat to me asking for peace. I proposed a counter offer that was:
peace for their empire except the capital Alesia,
They proposed a counter offer of all that but we get 176k denarii. XDDD
5:11
Hovers finger over X
5:20
Moves finger away
I gave this video a like because I always thought there were cowardly gnomes all the time since 2004. I also unsubscribed and subscribed once again just to make you happy yeey
XD
En what about replenishing generals on the map? Where do they get their soldiers and horses from far in enemy territory? :D
Did not see it mentioned before: i have seen it rain on several occasions, it touched the enemy as well as my forces, and only the enemy died (with some help)
Also saw troops cross a river at a shallow place. Not deep enough to get above their sandels, but it did look watery...
And lastly: when on a crowded bridge, hundreds touch the water, and die immedeatly.
Droids... Plausible...
0:15 I certainly know what is going through the minds of my enemies... the arrows and lances of my men when I order them to attack and KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM!!
*cough* sorry, I lost myself there a bit.
XD
The dogs are clearly an early android attempt. But as they proofed to be too uncontrollable after the fight started, they were used for dogs and a new android type was created, which was effectieve enough and therfore we see them now on the battlefield.
Also beeing androids explains the pila storage!: inside their arm there is just enough space for this ammount of pila, and they get ejected one by one sideways.
Maybe they’ve stuffed their javelins up their legs or trousers but they must get some sore legs from that
Is that where you put your pila now or are you just happy to see me?
I always have created stories in my head about Rome Total war. It keeps the game interesting & fresh. After 17 years this is still my favorite game of all time.
This is probably my most favourite video of yours
Thanks!
Dogs vs burning pigs it's a legend combat!
4:30 you can see a flash on the building.
The towers are occupied by a race of temperamental elves. They demand tribute in the form of sweets and human souls.
Τhose little wooden towers in wooden walls are actually better than the huge towers of stone walls. They can't be captured by troops running through them and if I recall correctly you need catapults (ballistas are too slow) to destroy them.
Very high quality work, quite interesting to watch, thanks for the video !!! Automatic translation of subtitles helped me understand some words))))
I especially liked the collapse of buildings (I note that the collapse of * burning * buildings looks more efficient; by the way, in one of the online battles of the campaign’s hot-seat, my opponent used this tactic - they destroyed buildings that prevented his soldiers from shooting, and I almost lost the battle)) )))
I used that tactic once defending a city. I had many units of catapults and destroyed the buildings blocking my view. From there I destroyed the bent siege towers, & battering rams and effectively halted all their operations. They lost a good 500 men before even reaching the walls.
original tactics)))) But I couldn’t do that, because this city remained mine on the campaign map (we played the online battle in the campaign hotseat), the results of this battle were transferred to the map, so I didn’t want to destroy my city :)
2:42 on the back of the shield
I have my own weird thing going on right now. Last week I started a campaign as WRE in BI, and I was quite happy with my performance in stabilizing my empire. In fact, not a single settlement revolted, and I got up to something like 12000 denari a turn (might have been 15k) before the hordes entered vision range.
I was and am in fact planning to play this campaign with minimal save scumming, accepting losses and character deaths. I've been a bit... lenient? in cases where I forgot to do something before ending the turn (such as attacking small armies blocking roads), or once when I lost a general in a fight that should have been pretty easy (the fifth or some such thing against the vandals in the same location) but I didn't take seriously. When I actually tried to fight the battle properly instead of doing the fighting at triple speed the result was decent. On the other hand, I did take some losses I would previously have redone, so I'm quite happy with myself.
However, something weird has happened in this campaign, and although it is technically great for my empire, I'm a bit disappointed. When I was doing so well at the start, I had kind of anticipated an epic struggle between a revitalized WRE and the barbarian hordes! I was actually a bit intimidated when the ERE declared war on me when the Vandals had just arrived at the border of Sarmatia and the Goth's lands. Sure, the Roxolani had apparently been completely ignored by the hordes. The other hordes would come crashing down, though!
The Vandals besieged the Sarmatians. And were defeated. The Vandals then traveled into Gothic territory... and ignored them. Meanwhile, the Huns besieged the Sarmatians. The ERE... had a rebellion of 2 (by now 3) settlements. The Vandals had by now traveled _through_ Gothic territory and attacked my army waiting for them across the bridge. I decided against fighting on the actual bridge - I'm not sure which of their units can swim, and I decided I would rather fight one army at a time, even if I wouldn't have the bridge as a chokepoint. Like this, I could also have the few reinforcing units I had ready enter the battlefield under AI control, allowing me to actually outnumber the enemy. Like this, I was able to win all but one of the battles in that place. Between battles, some of my units would be sent to the nearby settlement to be replenished, and after my one defeat the Vandals were actually out of movement, and I was able to retake my position.
While all this was going on... I started beating down the Kelts (which have been defeated by now and were no challenge whatsoever), fought one or two small battles with the ERE, pushed two pathetically tiny Berber armies back from Carthage, done the same for the Alemanni, killed a couple Alemanni and Frankish agents, and been otherwise ignored by all factions. Seriously, there's almost nothing going on in the WRE. Just a bit of infrastructure growth which took a step back for a while when I was "pumping out" units to defend against the hordes. Oh, and the Huns? They failed their siege of the Sarmatians.
Just a couple of turns ago I actually destroyed the Vandal faction (and it was in that same turn that I destroyed the Kelts). The Huns meanwhile laid siege to the Sarmatians once again, and they once again have failed! They've lost about a third of their strength by now, while the Sarmatians are still stronger than they were at the start of the campaign! Sure, the yellow dudes are significantly weaker than the huns (in the military comparison view) and the land around their city is black as death from the constant sieges, but if they keep going like this, they will never form a horde! And the Goths have two full banners of armies (though I expect the composition isn't all that great, and it's probably not full 20-stacks). At this rate I'm wondering if the Huns will even make it to me!
I started this campaign hoping to challenge my resolve and actually play without the unfair advantage of the save functionality (at least mostly), but now I seem to have the most ridiculously lucky WRE campaign imaginable. I haven't lost a single settlement, be it to outside aggression or rebellion! In fact, I've even expanded by taking over all of Britain!
During my last (unfinished, naturally) campaign as the Saxons, every horde-forming faction east of the Franks got evicted from their homes. This time, it's possible the only hordes are going to be the initial ones and those _I_ trigger.
Good job Melkor! I remember you used to have 300 views. Really impressive!
Please give us more of these Weird Things about Total War games, especially Empire Total War. 🤗
It is coming. Just don't know when : )
1:52 it took 700 years for Romans to learn how to swim when Attila arrived.
I always thought towers were manned by 1-2 troops with high powered fast shooting ballistas. They’ve got some pretty good range & great damage usually one shooting even high armor enemies. It takes only 30 seconds of continuous fire to cut down about half of a enemy unit walking in front of towers.
I think we should all give a round of a plause to the hastati who will still throw their spear at the enemy, even if they r attacking them
It’s the ghosts ofc
I just think that one person could fit in this tower. I have a better question. How do they enter this tower? It seems impossible without a ladder and I've never seen anyone in this game use a ladder for this purpose
I have seen one tower kill 6 units of scythian horse archers (109 each) while missing 4 out of 5 shots. Those leprechauns have an extradimensional backpack
They fire powerful ballistic arrows getting one shots
Cowards garrison those towers. Absolute cowards
Again a good video !!
Btw Melkor would you do a campaign for medieval 2 ?
I have done campaign for Medieval 2 before. THey have done ok.
The next time I visit it though will have to be as a Stream (once I get the internet)
MELKOR Yea Okay that Sound good :) But tbh Melkor i was hopping for medieval 2 xD
Those one liners lol so much humor
Pila at the shield inside
Those gnomes have to be the most accepting of people to willingly say "Hmm, sure! I'll stay in a small wooden tower with no food, water, clean clothes, or any modern day luxury, for the rest of my life!"
(I get this was video is from 2 years ago but whatever)
I can easily forgive majority of conventions of this game, but when my stack of Franks in BI, sieging Roman city, couldnt move through few meters of empty space between buildings and had to go near empty walls from which they were shot by empty towers(!), just to be routed by single enemy unit in the center(general), i, who played thousands of hours in Medieval 2 before this, was so shocked that deleted that game immidiately. Its very outdated compared to Med2.
The Pila is retractable of course! all the units just shrink it down to size and put it in their belts
well not by cowardly gnomes but i always thought that some chill dudes are sitting in those towers with belt fed automatic mini ballistas and they are just happy to shoot whoever is considered to be the enemy by the game but close enough for a like :)
2:47 Looks at their butts:
You don't want to know.
They must be really dedicated to their jobs.
Staying in one place for hours at a time.
That was really funny. I throughly enjoyed that 😅
This video is hilarious. Make a Warhammer one please!
Tower guards are the most annoying thing in the game, my sieges would be magnificently short if it weren’t for those cowardly bastards
It's like they're controlled by a computer or something.
What fools wonder: What is the meaning of life?
What real men wonder: Anything mentioned in this video
People didn't really learn how to swim until the late nineteenth century... aside from Native Americans.
the tower thing is pretty hilarious
Not gonna lie mate but if I was laden with heavy armour I probably wouldn't wanna go for a swim myself.
3:31
No one's going to point out that the shadow of the Colosseum is still there even once the building is gone?
They have invisible back packs which Is where they keep the javelins
Me and my freind calld it for the shit-tower, cuz the people that are up there are stuck...shit all over the tower
Weird but good
You need to take a holiday lol
The real lore
They pull the pila out of their nose duhh
a lot of improvements compared to MTW but a lot of shit too... developers are creative but not perfect of course like every human :) Diplomatic AI is the most broken shit in RTW 1
Nice
hilarious!
Do u know the Crisis Imperii mod for RTW: BI? A mod about Diocletian era. This is awesome!
