In your game, you were just one turn away from getting the 4th bank and nine more points... so I could see a possible path to victory with a building centric strategy.. In the Crusades someone had to build all the infrastructure so I like how the game highlights that part of history we rarely get to see. Thank you!

Thank you for the video! I like how you give us a real feel for the game as I don't alway get the sense of that in other 'How To Play' videos. We are playing the 'Pillars of the Earth' series right now, so finding this game is good timing. It looks interesting and a bit lighter than some battle war games I have seen of the Crusades. I got the TMG retail version on eBay as I think it has wood pieces.
On the turn at 41:01, I think you can make it a 4 build + 2 move. According to the spot you placed the bank at 42:31, 4 (token) + 2 (2 bank bonuses) + 1 (discount) = 7 seems enough, if I didn't misinterpret that building bonus tile.
This is a great game that got a bit overlooked. Wonderful mechanics with just enough theme sprinkled on top. The wood retail components are actually better than the plastic minis the KS Deluxe.
Excellent work on this video Jon, you really did a great job of showing just what this game is all about. I'm personally a big fan of the rondel mechanic in board games, to me it really enforces the idea of needing to plan a few turns ahead thereby making the game more strategic in nature. The two big rondel games I can think of are this and Trajan, are there any other good ones I'm missing? My one complaint about this game would be a graphical one. I'm not a big fan of the red orange ocean and would have preferred it to be a cool serene blue to balance out the other rather in your face colors like the purple, orange, and green.
Thanks to playthrough like this I can discover interesting games, that I might pass. Most of times when see cover of box (yeap, I sometimes judge book by it's cover) or I read on bgg mechanisms that I am not fan of, I just pass on game, but then I see playthrough and I discover that there is much more than that mechanism I dislike. I like how they implemented player powers and player boards look nice, it just looks like clever design and I am not big competitive area-controlling person or min-max point (influance) counter, but I can see me playing this. Thank you for another great playthrough, I have this game on my list :)
I'm probably going to call this 'reverse Trajan' in my head. action then distribute seems easier to plan a few turns ahead than Trajan's distribute then action though. It's very easy to lose track of how many are in each bowl in that game. And of course the game as a whole is much less complicated than Trajan. I can't say I'm a fan of the Influence action, I don't like turns in games like these where you just get victory points. At42:17 couldn't you have just assigned one more power to travel and moved the england knight a bit more or something, instead of wasting a build?
Good job done here which convinces me to get it. Love the player boards and components. 2 things i noticed....Would the colour of the sea be better(maybe lightish blue) to contrast the orange player more and does the start tile character have an overly strong influence? But must say i do like the look of this.
I don't mind the orange sea, though I also think I'd be fine with it blue. When it comes to the asymmetries, I think some are harder to use well than others but at this point don't feel like any are stronger than others (after only 2 plays).
So it's a game about the Crusades where you never actually make it to the holy land and just spend the entire time terrorizing Germans and Eastern Europeans? surprisingly historically accurate.
I really like this game! I am bummed that I didn't know about this kickstarter. The deluxified version is waaaaayyyy better than the retail version. I think I will have to pass on it unless I can find a reasonably priced deluxified version.

What a really interesting design. Feels very smooth and clever. I like how the Knight bonus tiles fit in with the board.
If I am correct, then everything in that fits in with each other is only in the deluxe version

I think Finca, Glen More, Seeland and Teotihuan are other great rondel games.

Also, at 45:48, the orange player doesn't actually use their Travel action.
The influence action is a good one to upgrade. then its really just a travel action, that you get to use any leftover power as points.

This was the deluxe version that I got from backing the kickstarter campaign.
I really like this game! I am bummed that I didn't know about this kickstarter. The deluxified version is waaaaayyyy better than the retail version. I think I will have to pass on it unless I can find a reasonably priced deluxified version.
