Thank you so much. Once again you have made learning a new (and complicated) game a piece of cake. I appreciate your thoroughness and attention to detail and am glad to be one of your Patreon supporters.
CORRECTIONS: 1. 35:40 - Our opponent should have had 9 workers and we should have 8 based off the numbers in the building windows. 2. 1:02:18 - That card requires the flax and hide to be spent in order to be played. 3. 1:15:29 - Each field adds 2-5 value, not 1. The value of each depends on that field's row.
I must say this looks like a very solid worker placement/set collection game, not necessarily groundbreaking but games don't always have to break the mold. They just have to do what they set out to do well. Excellent video as always.
A really good video, which, paradoxically, made me less interested in getting the game for myself. I do mean that the video is great and really shows how the game plays out, but it turns out the game is far more fiddly than I expected. So I guess for me it is almost a public service announcement :-)
Glad to see this finally arrived. It had quite the journey! I liked the fast-forwarded playthrough. Hallertau has some crazy escalation and it was nice to see that play out in the final round. I am quite looking forward to this one, it has a lot of mechanics I like. The only thing I'm slightly worried about is the luck element in cards. I feel it's less of a problem than in other Uwe games because a) you have way more cards and draw way more so you're more likely to get something that works well and b) the way advancement works you are already encouraged to have some of _everything_ because that makes pushing the craft houses easier, so you're less likely to get something that just doesn't work for you at all (whereas in Feast for Odin you may get a card that has to do with a part of the game you are entirely ignoring). Still, less of a problem is still a problem. Otherwise, this looks like a game I will want to get as soon as possible. Correction: at 1:02:04 the yellow player doesn't spend the flax and hide, the card has an arrow. Edit: 1:07:26 1:15:25 You add the 'value' of each field, not just the number of fields! So, for example, a level 5 field is worth 1 endgame point. So the level of the field does matter for endgame scoring. (I had to double check with the rulebook myself)
Glad you liked it :) I 've added corrections for both those mistakes, thanks! For what it's worth, in our group we have someone who has won every single game he has played vs any of the rest of us. That's 10+ games. We have another person who has won every game (or come in second vs the first person I talked about) so I do think there is a ton of room for skill in this game.
Great tutorial and playthrough. I really love this format for learning games. 35:40 You say that our opponent got up to 8 workers, and we only got up to 7. Looking at the positions of the houses I think that should have been 9 and 8 respectively.
Your fields get counted based on the row they are in, for the end divide by 5 scoring, wouldn't have changed the scores much, but worth noting. Love the game, good playthrough.
Hi Jon, thank you for the video, I felt that this may not be for me, however, after this I feel more interested in this game now and will definitely think about saving for it.
When I saw this my first thought was, “huh, looks like a spiritual successor to Agricola”. But the design philosophy couldn’t be more different; Agricola is a game of few workers and very tight resources. This seems to have gone completely the other way - lots of workers, tons of resources, and loads of ways to get more! I personally think I would love it, but looks a bit heavy for my group. Great tutorial as ever, Jon! How did you find this format? I liked the way you skipped through a few rounds but still played the full game; I preferred that to your other tutorial vids where you just show the first three rounds and then end there. Would love to see more of this format!
I'm still playing around with how I do tutorials these days, since I no longer make full playthroughs for every game. At the moment I am varying the format with each game, depending on how that game plays. This one felt like it deserved to have the last round shown so I did a fast forward to get there. Other games have end-game states that aren't that much different from early game states and with those I'll likely still just show the first few rounds. I'm not set in stone on any of these things though, and I do hope to do slightly more fastforward full playthroughs like this in the future (when it seems to make sense).
Thanks for this, I’ve been curious about this one. I need a Rosenberg in my collection. I’d love to see a tutorial and playthrough for Babylonia from Reiner Knizia!
I discussed my initial impressions here: ua-cam.com/video/_vByA380ym4/v-deo.html and I have now played the game about 6 times. I really like it and look forward to even more plays.
Whenever I want to see a playthrough of a game I'll always choose yours before anyone else. Simply the best!
That's so nice to hear, thanks!

This is not a tutorial, this is HALLERTAU HIGH SCHOOL!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩

You’re rocking it at the moment, Sir, great stuff!
One does doff one’s hat to thee.
Just got this game today and loved it! Thanks so much for the playthrough! Very thorough and well produced.
Your tutorials are really great, Jon. Much appreciated!
Just got this game, looking forward to playing it

Very helpful, merci. I just played a 3 player game which was really great. I'm playing solo tonight.
Great to hear, thanks :)
I love your playthrough videos.
Great tutorial and playthrough. I really love this format for learning games.

Good catch! Glad you liked this one, thanks for pointing out the error so that I could make a note.

Good catch, I did get that wrong. I've added a note to the klingon subtitles and the pinned corrections comment, thanks!
woot, close game. loved the playthrough. really makes me want to buy it 😀
awesome stuff, viewed this video a bunch of times, highly recommended to learn the game, keep up the good work
Hi Jon, thank you for the video, I felt that this may not be for me, however, after this I feel more interested in this game now and will definitely think about saving for it.
Great as always. I need to get back to my Rosenberg collection. Thx for the vid.
Hey Jon, great play through as always!
Small correction - 1:02:13 the opponent should pay the hide and flax for the bonus card.
Good catch, I've added a note about this to the Klingon subtitles and the pinned comment.

I've been intrigued by Babylonia, though haven't had an opportunity to try it yet.
Boulder elves are now headcanon.
Glad I passed that on to at least one person :P
Brilliant Tutorial/Playthrough...I think I'm in love! ...with the game, not you, Jon. :-P
thanks
Do you like the game Jon? What is your oppinion of the game?
I discussed my initial impressions here: ua-cam.com/video/_vByA380ym4/v-deo.html and I have now played the game about 6 times. I really like it and look forward to even more plays.
Yellow player had 35 goods and fields. That would have given them 7 points. You count the value of the fields.
Yeah, I did get that wrong. I have corrections for things like this in the Klingon subtitles, I suggest turning those on whenever it's possible.
@@JonGetsGames I always forget that.
Jon at 1hr 2mins should yellow have paid in the flax and hides?
Yeah, it looks like I got that one wrong. I added a note about this to the Klingon subtitles and the pinned corrections comment.
1:02:10. That is spend and they didn't spend those resources.
Good catch, I've added a note about this to the Klingon subtitles and the pinned comment.
First comment, love this game, love your video, from Indonesia :)
