    The vehicle in this video is a 1st Generation Honda CR-V
    If you have purchased a used vehicle and you are here, you have probably encountered an issue with previously installed electronics on your new to you vehicle. Sometimes car alarms can have a mind of their own. You may ask your self "why does my car alarm keep going off", or you may be stranded because of your car alarm. I have decided to make a video showing you how to successfully remove such electronic components with ease and straight forward directions. If you watch the video and have further questions, leave them in the comments and I'd be happy to help you out.

      @acypooder1 check for a toggle switch some near the kick panel or under the dash. A lot of times these are installed but not really discussed work the customer and they can sometimes accidentally get kicked. If you find it, flip the switch and try the remote start.

    Great video. This helped me very much. Had purchased a 2012 Rav4 that had an aftermarket alarm installed. Sadly the only thing I had to "disable" it was a valet button but still wasn't sure on brand and all that. I finally tackled tracing the wiring for that to the main hub and so forth. Thankfully whoever installed it did it professionally and all I had to do was unplug the wires from the jumps and that was it. Done and done. Thank you again for this video and the helpful explanations of all that you pointed out.

      Usually there is a red wire that has a fuse on it. If it is an alarm only, then you will have a small red wire with a fuse, usually a red ten amp fuse. If you have a remote start you will usually have two large red wires with green 30 amp fuse. You will pull those fuses if you can find them. Let me know if that helps or if you have more questions.

      @@DCAutoEnhancement Hi, I have a RAV 4 2003 that I bought about 3 years ago, that has a remote starter/alarm on it. From the beginning the batteries on the small remote control ran out quickly I had to replace them just after several weeks. Then I got tired of it and hasn't used it at all.
      Now for some reason the car's battery just ran out every night until it became unrechargeable, so I replaced the car battery but it happens again. This did not happen before though I don't use my car for long drives and sometimes let it sit in cold winter for months (I live on a bus line.)
      My mechanic who is retiring in couple of weeks refused to help or recommend somebody else in the area to detect the problem. My neighbor suggests it may be something that runs all the time and drains the battery, and the remote alarm can be the culprit.
      What do you think it can be? What should I do? The car still run very well and just passed inspection although the ABS brake light has been on and the mechanic said the brake was OK. Please give me an advice, whether ripping off the alarm/starter will help my problem. Or it may have another cause?
      Thank you

      @DCAutoEnhancement  2 місяці тому

      @@tuongnhicuaanhnguyen it is possible that your alternator isn't charging the battery in your car and that would allow it to discharge. The alarm could've a part of your problem but based on what you have said, I would suspect the alternator over the alarm. You can take your car to a place like AutoZone and have your alternator checked.

    • @tuongnhicuaanhnguyen

      @@DCAutoEnhancement THank you very much for your response. I did take the car to my mechanic after recharging the battery, and of course he did not find anything wrong with it. "The car starts fine and runs fine", said he. I explained the problem to him and did suggest the alternator and he checked it too and tested everything electronic. Nothing wrong, but still the next morning the battery was dead again. The old mechanic says his shop doesn't deal with this kind of electronic problem, too complicated for him.
      Now I just remove the battery connections when I get home to save the battery. This afternoon I found a place I called. They said it would cost $180 to test and detect the problem/cause. I just don't know whether I should do that, given that it's 21 years old... and then the cost of fixing the problem... I can't afford a new car either. I thought yanking off the alarm/starter system was easy but i doesn't seem so. How to unplug it. That's why I bumped into your page and saw that people are all happy this video helped them.
      Thanks again.

      Yes, that can be a cause. Look up how to find a parasitic draw. That will help you determine if it is the alarm or something else. You will need to know how to use a digital multi meter. Or you can just remove the aftermarket alarm and see if that takes care of the problem. What I would do first though, is take the vehicle to a place like AutoZone and have the battery tested.

    I have a problem .I got a jeep liberty that came with an avital remote start alarm and the seller took the fuses out from it to disable it...since he lost the fob...I got a new one and a shop reprogrammed it. Then one day the alarm wouldn't activate and my dash showed door ajar...I took the fuses out and I noticed a burning smell.coming from under the dash...I also saw some alarm wires exposed without tape close to metal...Today the shop scanner read all 4 doors are ajar...as the dash cluster does not tell which door is open..You think the wires shorted out from the alarm...and mess up the BCM...also the fuel gauge is erratic reading.Thanks!

      Not usually, these aftermarket alarms usually do not interfere with original wiring. Apparently I blew fuse #17 under the hood, the 30-amp AM2 Starting system, "IGN" and "IG2" fuses. I swapped that with another fuse and she's alive! :)
