I still love how misleading the intro cutscene is. Jumping out of hatches on top of the ship like some kind of super heroes? Nah, your troops are going to exit the ship from a ramp like they're storming the beaches of Normandy while praying to God they don't get killed by reaction shots before they even see the aliens. That guy you gave an autocannon? Nah, he ain't going to give a squad of Muttons a wink as he mows them all down. He's gonna drop that AC and run around sobbing as his buddies get slaughtered.
That's why I love the x-com files mod, by the time the aliens start their invasion you could have some genetically enhanced veterans who survived the wars with the cults who you break out for special occasions like a muton terror site
Ooh, that's meant to be the autocannon. That makes sense, I thought it was a minigun but I don't remember one of those in base XCom. LMAO at the idea that the autocannon could take out 3 mutons in one round though especially with the crappy AP rounds.
The intro looks like a propaganda film used by xcom to uplift the morale of their new soldiers while in the base, if only they knew the actual casualty rate in those gunfights...
These are actually really cool and pretty well made, the 2D ones fit the art style from the DOS intro really well and the 3D ones are pretty good for the time and don’t look that bad today, I love how they made a 3D model of a very large UFO for the alien victory cutscene and it’s perfect, it looks just the isometric sprites.
The Playstation version had some long load times. Like it was best to hold a piss in until your drop ship arrived on site, then go relieve yourself while it loads.
"The aliens are kicking our ass, but they are killable with regular bullets" "So.. protection?" "Okay we have protection but how about those weapons." "..." "Sir?" "Too costly."
Torcularis The Sectoids are laughable in any version. Cyberdiscs are always bad. The Floaters look freaky and weird, in both versions. Reapers are only in the original but very mean looking, like a large rabid dog. The original Snakemen would be feared unlike the Thinmen and SnakeWOmen. (the latter is even being used in fetish pr0n for crying outloud) XD The original Chrysalids just seem more evil even. XD The original Mutons are large muscled purple humans, as they might actually be the result of humans being turned into raw strength soldiers. Selicoids and Celatids are so weird they lack explanation. XD The original had whole Ethereal crews with multiple Sectopods! And the Sectopods were only slightly weaker in the original then the 2012 and up Xcom's...
Radicaldanny from what can gather the mutons are the aliens that execute the men in the negotiation office *or whatever its called* and a sectoid is the thing that was sitting t the table with the men. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
These were in the Playstation 1 version of the game, even the intro was slightly modified from the original. Honestly it's been so long since I've seen them I forgot they were a thing.
Man, you can really tell which cutscenes were created fresh for the PS1 version - that awful 3D rendering compared to the hand-drawn art in the original cutscenes.
The last cutscene is surprisingly accurate, only four came back...
That big blast that missed the ship is what actually triggers the second game. Awakening the terrors from the deep
Pro tip: you can watch movies at Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching lots of of movies recently.
@Lochlan Elliot Yea, have been watching on Flixzone} for months myself =)
@Lochlan Elliot definitely, have been using Flixzone} for months myself :)
They laugh. They think they got lucky… they have no idea what’s about to happen…

Listen, it’s not called “a 90% casualty rate”, it’s called “natural selection”
Turns out me playing XCOM 1 and 2 with synthwave in the background wasn't a coincidence after all
As of late 2018, the Tactical Legacy Pack has you covered in the best possible way!
@@CaptPatrick01 God I love the Legacy Pack soundtrack

Been playing this game since 1994 and I've never seen this before. Thanks for posting

I just love the survivors from the Cydonia assault high-fiving on their way back to Earth.
Thanks for posting these!
This is the game that stands above all others
they should add post credit scene when cydonia base send some kind of distress call to earth , it will be a nice setup for TFTD
the laser beam that "misses" is actually what awakens the ctuthulu-esque monsters of tftd

Anyone else disappointed you don’t get to use the cool ship from the opening cinematic?
There is a mod that has hatches on the top of the skyranger.
The opening always gets me cause you can't beat Mutons with human weapons lol

I'm surprised this game series didn't spawn a Saturday Morning Cartoon of some kind.
probably because it'd be a pretty grim saturday morning cartoon
And, yet a series like Wing Commander got its own show.
@@averysune9780 i mean chimera squad is basically a saturday morning cartoon for modern xcom
I think they might have thought "Maybe...."
But they would have to compete with Exo-Squad.
There was a cartoon show somewhat like X-Com but it only had about ten episodes before it was canned.
It didn't have the same vibe.
Still love it still play it on ps1 and it’s 2nd part of underwater xcom
X com terror from the deep ?
Check out the "Final mod pack" for PC. It is X com UFO on steroids. New Aliens, new weapons, etc. You'll love it.
Funny to think that in game, all those soldiers died the moment they stepped out of the Skyranger..
Guess they shoulda had training that involved dodging bullets.
No hover tank to take the first reaction fire?

Radio transmissions most likely
Is there one for TFTD?

lol Aliens look funny in the early X-com builds
Original 1993 Xcom is best Xcom! ^^
They certainly don't look nearly as intimidating as their reboot brethren. My first instinct would be to point and laugh, not run or defend myself.

Why are these cutscenes only for the PlayStation?
