I just wanted to compliment Mel on how much she has grown from the beginning of the podcast to now. I could tell she’s really worked on her self development from the way she speaks and reflects on her experiences. Amazing and so inspiring to see over the years!
Aww, this put a smile on my face! Self-help & personal development is something I personally value and tried to put more effort in these last few years. I appreciate this comment & thank you for noticing! 🥲♥
Absolutely loved listening to this episode!! Loved hearing about Mel’s first big trip with Ray! Totally relatable how trips can feel like so much pressure in a relationship.
I love your podcast girls. I recognize so much my boyfriend in Ray, like showing the "irrelevant map" moment. Thank you for always sharing your life with us. As a Canadian Chinese adoptee, your podcast feels like a talk with big sisters.
My first international trip with my now fiancé was 2.5 years into our relationship. We were dating for about 6 months when I asked him what he though was an important experience as a couple to determine if we were suitable for each other in the long run and he said travellling internationally. We did not know then that it would another 2 years before the world opened up and travelling abroad was possible again (we met 3 weeks prior to the COVID pandemic and lockdowns). We were really ill during our whole 2 week trip and I was disappointed. Little did I know he had already bought a ring and was going to propose in a few months' time. It also made me realise how kind and patient we were to each other even whist ill in a foreign country and I knew our relationship would be fine. I think we just learn more about each other and ourselves with each trip just like Helen said. I'm glad Mel and Ray's trip was positive and a great trip!
oh noooo mel you actually can go out of the shinkansen area once you go in! you just have to ask the station attendant and show them your ticket. hope this helps for anyone else coming to japan ❤ edit: i also fully realize that wasn’t the point of the story haha just want to put it out there!
Thanks for the bento story. I was definitely more of a Ray attitude about the bento-train-ride-experience. My cousin who went on the trip with me had been very excited about having a bento for lunch on the ride to hualien. I couldn't understand why at first, but your excitement conveyed here helped me understand a little more about why... since i had also thought that the bento tasted just alright despite choosing the one that I thought had the best topping 😅
I totally understand your excitement for the bentos!! My partner and I felt like a kid at the candy store, but I wished they were served warmer too. Hope you and Ray get to experience it next time. Thanks for sharing :)
My fiance and I just got back from Japan and had the same experience with trying to find the large bento stand in the main station area, but were stuck inside the shinkansen area! Except in our case, we BOTH really wanted to get the bentos and BOTH were super frustrated at the same time. 😅We eventually did ask the station manager to leave the area real quick, got our beloved bentos, went back into the shinkansen area, and didn't kill each other.
I miss Japan so much! I went in April 2019 for a week and went to Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima :D I became the biggest kid again visiting the Pokemon centre in Tokyo. Also bought some anime figurines from Mandarake :D The Arashiyama Bamboo grove and Fushimi Inari shrine with the torii gates were great spots to explore and walk around. Hiroshima being a pretty important historic site I had to keep it in my itinerary. I went with my parents but in the future I'd love to go to Japan again solo or with a S.O. The shinkasen and JR trains/subway were super easy for me to navigate. I became a guide for my parents thanks to the cheap wifi hotspot pods they sell everywhere and google maps is so easy to use for the stations from subway to other bigger stations for bullet trains.
heyyyy @asianbossgirl - helen i loveeeee your looks? can you please show us how you groom yourself? i love how you do your eyes - the lash, eyeliner. love how you style your hair too. can you show us pretty please!?

We also wanted to get the bullet train bentos too! Saw it on UA-cam ❤ Ended up not getting it because it was between meal times.
Good show
What is the big stride this year? :O
