Keep in mind that reviewers need access to vehicles from manufacturers and this likely moderates their opinions of them. Hence you get A+ handling Camrys and A handling Hyundai Tucsons and such.

Bruno TaTa no. The Camry is now a great handling car because if it's new TGNA platform that's why it got a a+. Stop hating on the Camry for once in your life.

Darren I agree his reviews are honest and unbiased. This new Camry is a great handling and fast car. He touches on points not other reviewer did. Like how the Camry would out run the accord at certain speeds and how the transmission is better then in the maxima

You're definitely the most enthused about the Camry's sporting potential out of everything I've seen and read. I respect your opinion so it's interesting.

    • @Toyota4Life
      @Toyota4Life 6 років тому +5

Theres tons of other people who said the camry is blast to drive if you kno where to look and stay away from the mainstream reviewers. The ones that did not say the Camry is fun to drive are the reviewers who usually ALWAYS talked down on the Camry to miss guide people and to help keep a certain "stigma" about the Camry. I take this guys opinion over the rest. 301hp upgraded suspension better hanlding lighter and wider new chassis of course this new camry is fun to drive anyone saying different is just trying to dismiss the car.
But even tho some reviewers are bias towards other cars it's STILL manages to be the best selling car in America regardless of what anyone says because the camrys reputation is unbeatable and people talk with their money.

    • @jaffarbaqi

I will hold my opinion till you Alex review the new Accord. But I have a suspetion that the adaptive suspension will tilt the scale towards the Honda.

    • @Gforce000
      @Gforce000 6 років тому +1

I alway prefer natural aspirated engine over turbo due to responsiveness and lower maintenance cost. Yes 0-60 the turbo engine has a good boost when you floor it. But he is right about cruising in highway and there is a need to pass a vehicle. Just tipping a little bit on gas, the v6 will response faster. Same goes for 2.5l vs 1.5T. The handling of this Camry is top notch

Another solid review, Alex!! The TNGA architecture that Toyota uses is absolutely phenomenal(and yes, right up there with excellent Honda and Chevy) and serves as the Camry that Toyota should have built to take on the Accord(in handling performance) at least 2 decades ago. I test drove an XSE V6 and was blown away at the step up from my current '10 SE V6. I deplored the step-back in style and quality that the '12-'17 Camry had, and held on to my 2010.
I agree, the platform is begging for an even sportier trim with grippier tires...and a manual trans! The 8spd is an improvement over the 6spd, but I found it still ever-eager to shift to its highest gear, for obvious fuel economy reasons. And yes, in 2018, Apple Carplay/Android Auto is a non-negotiable for many. Overall, this car is very nice and serves as the reason why the Camry is the only midsizer putting up positive gains in a world full of CUVs
Slight favor: On future reviews, would it be too much to ask for "as-tested" pricing on your testers?

TurboFerret87: i just saw one coming out of a gas station earlier today, and i almost mistaken it for the last one until i walked around and looked at the front of it, and it was definitely a looker. these videos and pictures do not do this car justice, until you see one in person. even the base model LE was very nice, but the one i saw is the Camry SE version which is just a trim level above the LE and the SE was even better. if i had the money this would be the version id get. i don't have a problem with using a key cause you can get it on the LE, but there are more features that i would want that the LE doesn't have. it gives it slightly more tech along with an upgraded stereo for a nice balanced car, without busting the bank and you get the smart key with push to start as a bonus.

i test drove both cars and got the Accord i give the accord a 10/10, the Camry 1.5/10 is a boring car and you pay way to much for it its a ripoff the drive is nothing it looks like the 2010 corolla the drive is very bumpy space inside is limited this cars are made for small people ,the accord styling and drive is awesome and all the options you get in the accord self braking self driving it even can Steer for you so i got the accord, the Camry just another tree huger car it looks ugly and its so cheep looking screw it!

Excellent review of an excellent car. I, too, tested the XSE V6 and came away very impressed with the new Camry. I hope to get the mid cycle refresh in a couple of years. I’d only get the XSE V6 or SE Hybrid. And the Accord 2.0T drives nice as well, but I feel it falls short on the inside - it’s not nearly as nice as the Camry. Toyota needs to roll out CarPlay in the Camry when the new Avalon hits dealers.

traded in my 2015 Accord EXL for this on impluse. My family has drove toyotas and we have always loved them, I had a corolla for 12 years and never an issue, so I was not concerned about my impluse decision. My Accord was a great car, I just didn't not like the uncomfortable seats in my Accord, the styling and comfort of the Camry along with the toyota reputation sold me. I wish I would have let the car be out longer, to see what others were saying before I bought this. Don't let the looks fool you. The car has a clumsy transmission that jumps around and searches for gears, if you have to jump on the gas it takes literally.. 2-3 seconds before it kicks in, so good luck pulling out anywhere in a hurry. The engine is loud and rattles like a 10 year old car. The gas door won't open if it's the least bit cold, I have had this happen several times this winter. There is no satelite radio, or cd player. The radio is of poor qaulity or the doors are not sure which but even when on low there is a rattle with the least bit of bass in a song. It is listed as having a precollision warning system. I have yet to see do anyting I am begining to think it's more for looks. My Accord would warn you when you were too close, this doesn't light up, slow the car or anyting. I basically think it's a feature that does nothing. I had a guy stop in front of me 2x on a 70 mph interstate, the car never made a noise, blinked, or reacted. The entertaiment system if that's what you call it is horribly setup, and not userfriendly in the least. It's very archaic. Over all I can say I am exteremly disappointed in this car. I feel that Toyota is hiding major flaws and cheapness in a pretty exterior and some nice interior materials, but once you begin to drive the car it's evident it's not anyting close to an Accord, nor ever will it ever be. If Honda had not ruined the exterior design of the 2018 Accord I would be trading Camry for one, for now I am waiting until I find something I like to come along, once I do I will gladly be unloading this car. As a family who has always loved toyota's and this was the 4th one we have purcahsed wihtin 17 years... I strongly discourage buying a 2018 Camry.

The 8th Gen Camry XSE with 3.5L V6 weighs more than the other Trims. Braking is not going to be 116 feet at a speed of 60 to 0. If I recall it is 127 or 134 feet. (Using an algorithm, I came up with 127 feet stopping distance from 60 to 0 MPH for Camry XSE V6 as it is heavier than the other trims. Car and Driver gave 167 ft at 70 to 0 MPH for the 2018 Camry XSE V6 improved from 2017 which was 189 ft.). Therefore going faster means further braking distance). Using single-piston calipers makes it tough, also the Camry brake pedal has too much play or distance to travel to get a good stop. The Honda Accord 2.0T Touring speed time from 0 to 60 MPH is 5.3 seconds beating the Camry V6. The ride is not very comfortable as you will feel all the road imperfections, meaning it is absorbed and pushed in through the seat to you. The Grade of B- is generous as it should be a C. Handling is an A. The cabin noise is right on as B- or a bit better than the Accord. Fuel Economy is B+ as does well for a V6 but after 100K miles will drop to a B or B-, and when over 150K miles will be a C. Boo for the Avalon, just not a good sedan. Who wants a garbage Hybrid? To add Wireless Carplay and Android Auto get the Ottocast U2-X Pro dongle for $99. In 2021, the Camry got a refresh mainly the Infotainment Center which was good, but unfortunately did not get Safety Sense 3.0. The cost of the Camry XSE V6 is a few thousand dollars higher with all 3 Options. In 2023, it is the only mid-size sedan from any manufacturer that has a V6. I bought a 2023 Camry XSE V6 fully loaded because in the year 2024, Toyota will not offer the Camry V6.

Alex, thank you again for an excellent review of the new 2018 Camry. I wish you should mention in all your reviews that the new GDI engine has a carbon build up problem. I really hate that car manufacturers put up new products before they know or care about solving the long term issues. Of course Toyota is an exception. Toyota really care about and stand behind their products.

I love that this car still retains some "old" tech. I still like analog gauges, a normal gear shifter, a V6 instead of turbo, etc. Too bad that it's still way overpriced in the end. The last car I bought was a Taurus with a v6 and AWD for $23k and this car starts at $34k...

Time to issue a correction on the engine. It is not just direct injected. It is dual (direct AND port) injected in order prevent carbon buildup in the intake section. This is a huge deal and definitely a variable impacting the decision of the educated buyer.

I sat at both camry and accord at the Chicago Auto Show 2018 and Camry's interior is not even in the same league as the Accord! The Camry's red interior looks good on paper, but in reality is just crap. Accord's infotainment is also years ahead of Camry. The only thing camry has its going on for is the panoramic sunroof. V6 in Camry means nothing when most modern 2.0T have same performance.

Not everyone can lay down the money for anything that they may want. I have owned Accord, Camery, and VW all in the same price range. The Hyundai Sonata has proven to be one of the best mid size cars (owned 4 Sonatas) on reliability, warranty, performance and style. Both the Honda Accord and Toyota Camery have taken styling advice from teenagers with their polarizing looks. Hyundai has come out of a shaky start in the 80 to take a major chunk of the midsize market in the past 20 years. They deserve to be considered in the comparisons with Honda & Toyota.

Two things I don't like about the Accord - #1 - that belt buckle looking front end #2 - the sill plate is beefy and is a good 2-3" from the top of the plate to the floor - folks that are just used to sliding their legs out of the car now have a lip to contend with in the Accord - makes it feel more sports-car like but also can be a bit of an egress issue since the seating position is lower

You have to do a side by side comparison between the Accord and Camry. You are the only review I saw which praises the Camry more than the Accord. All the other auto journalists are saying theAccord is the better car to drive.
However I do agree that the Toyota Camry V6 will be more reliable than the Accord turbo just because it’s less complicated. Would really want to see a comparison between the top selling Accord and Camry trims.

Are you aware Hyundai and Kia are under investigation in the US because of 4-cylinder engines catching fire? It used to be just the 2011-2014 models. Now, it's 2011-2019 model years. I had a 2006 Hyundai Sonata 3.3L V6. I loved that car. I had hoped to get another Sonata. But, the engine fire thing forced me to drop Hyundai/Kia altogether. Tested the Accord 1.5T, Mazda 6 2.5L, and 2019 Camry SE. We liked the Camry SE the best.

I've owned this car for 4mos and will fill in my input from personal experience. This ride is a dream to drive and transmission is smooth and seamless. What I like the most about this car is ability to start vehicle from anywhere in the world, 360 degree camera, powerful, panoramic sunroof, jbl system, spare tire, and overall looks. What I don't like about the vehicle is lack of ventilated seats/heated steering wheel/memory seats, and most importantly ENTUNE 3.0 is a disaster. There is a connectivity issue with the app which requires you to reinstall the app on your phone every few days. Check the reviews on play store and app store if you don't believe me. Toyota is aware of the problem and hasn't addressed it. If I knew about the problem I would've went with Accord. Not being able to listen to Pandora in a $35k car is ridiculous.

    • @chrisbowie9351

Can’t you just stream it through Bluetooth? My Ram pickup used to do the same thing. The app in the infotainment system would constantly freeze up. I would have to do the same thing as you (log out but f app or uninstall then reinstall). I bought a new Ram a few months ago (2 years newer) and guess what....Ram got rid of the apps. Now the only way to listen to Pandora is to Bluetooth stream. Called Ram customer service. They said too many issues with different phone manufacturers and the eventual operating system upgrades. Newest version of the Uconnect system in Ram trucks now have apple CarPlay or android auto.

Now that the current Accord has a butchered design, and Mazda 6 not even offering a V6 engine, the current Camry is a clear winner, I was never a big fan of Camry for the longest time as it was more of a family sedan rather than a sport sedan not to mention the sub-par designs, but this one clearly is much improved and has transformed for the better. As much as the automakers try to maximize performance & fuel economy by attaching a turbo-charger to an inline-4 engine, nothing beats the naturally-aspirated V6 smoothness and instant power delivery, and mostly likely only giving up 1~2 miles per gallon.

In early January when I was shopping, Toyota dealers near me didn't seem to have as many XSE V6's in stock compared to Honda's 2.0T Accords. I test drove a v4 XSE but never got to drive a V6. Then I went to a Honda dealer and drove the Accord 2.0T 10AT Sport which had most everything I wanted in power and convenience features. To avoid the Toyota tethered phone navigation system I would need a v6 XSE with navigation which is $4k+ than the Accord 2.0T 10AT Sport w/ android auto nav. The Accords I wanted were on dealer lots so I bought one instead of waiting around for a "rare" V6 XSE to show up.

Hey Alex,.you mentioned that the Camry has direct injection. The specs on the Toyota website says that it's a "3.5 liter DOHC D-4S Dual Injection.." engine. In fact. all of the Toyota engines (I believe) are listed as Dual Injection which, of course, includes direct injection. The Honda's are all Direct Injection only. Anyone who's looking to buy a car for a long time (over 60,000 miles) is a lot better off getting the Dual Injection engine because the intake valves aren't going to have to be sandblasted or ground after extended use. Since so many manufacturers are going with Direct Injection nowadays, can you please point out those who do use Dual Injection? That would be a help.

um camry has sexy expensive looking RED interior. Get that wow factor when you open the door ( accord dont offer ). Great looking double moon roof. ( accord font offer ) The V6 is more responsive to drive and sounds the business when you floor it then the turbo engine in the accord and on the highway the V6 has more pull and will walk away from the accord. Camry has a more eye catching interior design. Camry give less issues then accord.

    • @tykszeto

Toyota4Life I agree that the red interior is definitely eye catching... Same with the reliability outlooks... I'm just not sure I'm ready to give up the manual transmission that's all... it's the real reason I was looking at the Honda Accord... but the heart vs mind fight is tough.. logic says the Camry is better long term... but I want to have fun rowing my own boat!

Style is subjective, but to me the Avalon looks beautiful. While I'd agree that there is a bit too much grille in the front, I find it to be one of the big grills that appeal to me a lot due to the execution. And just because the front grille is quote unquote "ugly" doesn't exactly mean the rest of the car is.

I prefer the grill on the SE/XSE models to the LE/XLE ones. The latter reminds me a bit too much of the Lexus "carp mouth" look, which I definitely don't care for. I do wish Toyota would add memory seats to the XSE/XLE trim lines; this feature is a deal-breaker for my wife and me because of our dramatically different heights. Honda, Ford, Chevy, Hyundai, Kia, VW, Mazda, and now Nissan offer it on their top trim lines.

Just keep in mind that the Accord 2.0t already has tune options available. 60 wheel horsepower increase (making it about 310 crank hp), and upwards of 100 lb-ft of torque addition, much of that at the very low to mid range. You'll smash any Camry on the 0-30, assuming you have the tires to hook up (both being FWD, though, make them ill-suited for drag race starts). All available without turning a single bolt - all done through the OBD port.
