People don't understand or don't know why (what is the reason), but they know intuitively that they feel betrayed. When boox launched TU b&w they had already developed a fully functional TUC and already almost completed NA3C and TUC pro. The business model is simple. If they have reached a technological peak of development, Boox will not "deliver" it in a single ereader but progressively and in stages in several generations in order to squeeze money from those who want the latest technology. Consumerism is their best friend.
I spent most of my life in research and development, designing cellular equipment. Iteration is the name of the game. Everyone does it. There isn't enough time or money to do everything at once.
I recently bought the Boox Note Air 3C. This machine complements my Android Samsung A45 phone, notebook PC, desktop PC, and iPad Pro 13." Although that seems like enough tech, Boox has found a niche that all the other tech does not provide. It is another versatile tool that saves my eyes, lets me read a lot (needed in my job), takes notes, and boosts my productivity painlessly. The color feature is obviously not the same as an iPad or anything close to OLED or other "bright screen" tech. Who cares when that is not the ultimate goal of an e-ink device? The usefulness is in note-taking. Exporting the work to PC (Word or PDF) will show the colors vividly. I save my eyes while creating the notes I need. This is a perfect use of color e-ink. It blows away the eyestrain of taking notes on the iPad. The B&W version cannot do the type of note-taking I want, but I imagine it is a great product as well. The Boox Note Air provides a lot of functionality that other e-ink devices fail to deliver. The battery life is fine for me. I must charge everything, usually within a couple of days anyway, and that is what the color version can do. So, my opinion is that it is well worth the investment. Thanks for your videos on this tablet!!
Hi ! I'm doubting to buy the air 3C. I need to read a lot of scientific articles, and I'm using an app (PaperPile) that is synced with my google drive. I've read that the note-taking isn't good on the app itself through the note air 3C, however, I was wondering if i could sync the tablet to my drive and annotate the pdf files through there. Will these files stay the same files or is there some duplicate created (or replacing the old file). I would need the syncing to work both ways, for PaperPile to be able to keep track of the annotations. I hope I was clear with my question, but really it's all that matters to me. I would love to relax my eyes on an e-ink tablet but i really need the annotations and syncing to work. Hope you could help me with that !
After watching your review and couple of other I've decided to upgrade my Nova 3 to Note Air 3 C and... I'm very satisfied. It runs very smooth and colours help with reading magazines. I've also bought 1TB microSD card and I wonder if I ever will be able to fill it up with manga. I've started to read more because of this device, although I have it for like 2 weeks, so I'll see if I keep it up, or "return to normal" after the novelty wears off. One issue I have with this device that no one else mentioned is the lack of black and white software filter for the whole screen. I've encountered mangas that looked very bad, but when I've turned on in-app grayscale filter, they started to look very good. I guess the image also contains some slight colours to enhance greyness or the scans behave as if they were colour images or something, I don't know. Unfortunately not all apps have a grayscale filter, so it would be a nice app optimization option. Oh, and the naviball don't have a button for switching refresh modes which is a bit annoying. About the "is my data send to CCP" - if anyone cares about their privacy they should know that there's no such thing as a "cloud" - it's someone else's computer. So doesn't matter where the company is located, whether it's USA, China, EU, Switzerland or Botswana at the end of a day by using their storage services you trust your data to them. You can always opt to not use Boox account like me and it should be OK, the only thing you'll be missing are their book store and cloud and synchronization options. (Though fortunately it's possible to move your notes from one Boox device to other manually without any internet access. It's not perfect, as it haven't backed-up notes that are in folders, so I had to move them out of the folders before creating a back-up.) You can even not use Google Play and use F-Droid instead. Or if you're extra paranoid - don't use the internet at all. BTW. I've just checked the CPU, and according to CPU-Z I have Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 2.40 GHz, so I guess I lost the CPU lottery. I've bough it in a Polish store specializing in e-readers. Welp, at least I hope this means my battery will last longer than those with 2.80 GHz.
Hi Voja! I wish you could review everything on the market, your videos are very explanatory in a much more than deep way, also your attitude is very calming, it is a real pleasure watching you. Thanks for sharing your time
It has tilt support! Is it coming to older devices??? It took them YEARS to enable it, so maybe in a decade they'll figure out they could offen an option to disable their extra GPU.
I can relate to the paperweight commenter. I broke my TUC screen. Probably my fault, hence I didn‘t claim warranty. But it really is more fragile then say my ipad, which was fine in the same bag, that broke the TUC. And what broke was an inner glass layer. Not the direct contact surface you‘d interact with. If Boox used the same inner screen composition on the TUC and Nova Air 3c, I feel it is more fragile. Also the comment to not use a boox account and be safe of potential spyware is but short sighted. I am not saying Onyx is spying, but since they own the firmware they can technically put tracking onto the device, that doesn‘t need an account. The only way of confirming that is to wireshark the device traffic. But I guess people have an easy way to opt out, y not buying the device
I am one of the unfortunate people who found it to be "too dim", but I did also start to contemplate that perhaps I may need invest in better lighting around my often dark, minimally windowed apartment. :)
Thank you for the great video. After watching it I purchased an Air 3C, and I am very satisfied with its performance. It fills the niche between my iPad and all the paper that I always have floating around.
Regarding Q14: not having a keyboard is a big big plus for me. I lug around my own keyboard no matter what anyway. I do that for my laptop. I would do it for this device too
Let me introduce you to the world of split ergonomic collumnar staggered keyboards. The rabbit hole is deep. If you choose to dive in you'll soon design your own keyboard. This video sum's it up nicely: ua-cam.com/video/rrska7UU7BE/v-deo.html To answer your question yes. most of the time due to RSI and for general comfort using a computer (fully programmable keyboard). Just bought the boox air 3c
Hi Voja, thank you for your great work! I've been following you for some time already and I like your reviews very much. I will get my Boox Note Air 3C for Christmas and I am extremely looking forward to it :-) My current Note Air 2 Plus is great, but since it's from a big part my working notetaking device, I am looking forward to the fingerprint reader, fast processing and the possibility to extend the storage. The colors will also help, because I time to time save some screenshots from my computer and in the shades of grey are often hard to read.
The release cycle anxiety: my only concern is how long and how well it is supported. Period. That's it. You are exactly right. The latest and the best is only the latest and best for about 5 minutes. Thank you for the review and for answering my questions.
You know the answer: next year there will be a new device; so wait for the new release and buy this device at a discount as this is what usually happens with Boox devices: their residual value is garbage usually, since they make so many. As far as software they support them for a while, so that should not be a concern
Having purchased a pre-loved Max 2 from 2018 a few weeks ago on eBay, I am quite confident to trust Boox's claim to support devices for quite some time. The Max 2 runs on Android 6 (ugh), but it did update to V3.3.2 (and probably will pick up V3.5 soon, the Nova Air 2 also just got the firmware update this week), everything works fine (although a bit slow, I have to admit, compared to my Nova Air 2 and the brand new Note Air 3 C I just got), no dead pixels, it synchs to the Boox App just like its younger siblings and I couldn't be happier with it. I do understand update anxiety and FOMO with the endless stream of new devices (not only from Boox), and sure, you have to find the perfect spot for yourself between getting a device a fits your needs for as much of the foreseeable future as possible while also having a responsible look at your budget and tryto find a bit of fun in all that ;-), but having used a 2nd gen Kindle from 2009 until 2020, I have learned to just love my devices and stop looking for something new until it becomes impractical or inevitable.
Time stamp 21:27. I have the original Note Air with the original cover. Using peel and stick magnets, I magnetically attached the NA to its cover so that it hinges from the right. This does three things. First, I can remove the NA form the cover quite easily and have it available 'naked' if I so need. I don't have to deal with the Boox adhesive. Second, I use a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite stylus. The stylus does stick to the NA magnetically, but this is no stronger than the original Boox stylus magnet. Hinging the cover from the right secures the stylus to the NA when the cover is closed (NA not in use). Third , I can charge the NA with the cover closed, which is the question that is asked at time stamp 21:27. If the NA3C has the same physical dimensions, a similar solution might be possible using older surplus and third party covers. A few caveats: first, the peel and stick magnets should be prepositioned on the back of the NA3C to get the magnetic polarities correct before attaching them to the cover. Second, don't let the magnets get too close to the location of the WiFi and BT antennae on the back of the NA3C (orange strip). This may cause some interference to the radio reception/transmission for these antennae. A 2 cm offset should be sufficient. I write from experience on this. Third, adding magnets to the cover adds weight to the system. Whether this would be more than the standard NA3C cover would depend on the number of magnets used.
Personally still prefer NA2+; it cost less, it has no color screen (call color these screen is an act of faith to be honest), and the battery last way longer. I am sure people will prioritize what matter the most for them, when picking NA2 and NA3C
Regarding new devices i have the boox Nova 3 color and even considering that is the past generation of Kaleido they released several firmware updates that enhaced the color, constrast and general performance making it totally usable today. Personally i can wait a couple of generations more to change it. Boox seems to have a good support program. Let's see how many times more they update my "old device". I'm programmer and may be you don't notice but the strain on the eyes is real, i didn't wanted to believe at the bennining but using eink regulary now had conviced me, now i'm waiting one monitor that overcomes my wife "Quality and Money control" jajaja Not standar monitors are a little priciers. I enjoy the channel watching where this electronic paper technology goes. It's exciting. A little more than two year now had convert me in a loyal follower to our great reviewer Voja. Congrats for the content in this great channel !!!
I haven't seen it directly, but folks on the Boox subreddit say a company representative confirmed in a message there that a B&W version is on the way. I'm looking forward to it. As neat as the color is, there are some Android apps that use color for their UI and text when I'd rather just have crisper black for those elements. And I notice after-images inside large blocks of color easily on my Tab Mini C -- while traditional "ghosting" on the canvas is much better than any pre-BSR device I ever used. I'd rather keep things simpler with B&W and have the display look cleaner overall.
Thanks for your videos.and between boox note air 3c and go 10.3? Wath is the best? I need something for writing and studying ( on books) .I'm falling in love mit boox go 10.3 but....note air 3c have colors! :😞 can you help me? Thanks!
Hi! I am debating getting either the NA3C or the Supernote A6X2. I would use it for taking notes at work and for marking up PDF etc. I have two questions: 1) can anyone give any indication of what feels better to write on? I have a ReMarkable2 and don’t really like how it feels, so looking for something more like pen and paper. 2) can you create a notebook which combines handwritten notes and PDF files?
Hello Voja, Thank you for all the excellent reviews! I really like your clear and thorough explanations and I especially enjoy your enthusiasm. You mentioned briefly, that Remarkable2 excels in the drawing experience over the Note Air 3C. How is the drawing experience on the Air3C? Drawing is a major use case for me. Also regarding the syncing between the files on Note Air 3C and a MAC, how does this work? is there two-way editing? for instance, can we create a document on the Air3C edit it on the Mac then edit it again on the Air3C? This will be my first e-ink device, and I am between the Remarkable2 and the Air3C. Remarkable2 for the distraction-free focus, ease of use, and clear UI… and the Air3C for the colors, handwritten note searching, dictionary, and Kindle/audible support. In addition to drawing, writing/editing/reading/annotating/planning/organizing, are major use cases. Thanks and keep up the great reviews.
I've been using my Max3 at least weekly for years now and this device is super tempting to jump to. I'm waiting to see if there is a Max color device coming. If I had the Lumi, I don't even think I would upgrade, because a backlight is one of the only things I really feel that I need vs want. I do really want color though and I love the 13.3" format. Great video as always, thanks for going into the depth you do.
The idea that "don't use a Chinese server, don't use a Chinese company's user account" solves security issues is woefully uninformed, and while not dangerous to most, it is certainly dangerous to some. Whomever makes the device and pre-installs software also determines what information is sent to whom unless the user interferes deliberately. Most smart bulbs, IoT et al., send data to China; saying that you don't have to worry about your far more capable Android tablet doing the same is optimistic at best, with the benefit of occasionally being correct.
Anyone who thinks that they can keep privacy online is mistaken. So if you want security, then never allow your device to get online. Everything else is a compromise. What I am talking about here is what the user asked, which is, is the data from their device being synchronized with a Chinese server. And the answer to that is what I said. What you are talking about are assumptions, guessing and not proven hypothesis, which may or may not be true, but from what I tested (monitored and measured outbound network traffic) I can only see regular server ping packets that measure in bytes, and it coincides with a normal behavior when a a service is periodically checking to see if it has a connection with the server or not. So what I know for a fact is that when you are not connected to a Chinese server and you are not using the Boox account, the only thing that the device is doing is checking the server status, never doing anything else, never sending any meaningful amount of data that would cause suspicion, or point in the direction that you are insinuating. So, my question is, are you basing your claim on any concrete facts, measured, tested facts that apply concretely to Boox devices and services, or is it something else? If it is based on facts, please do share, as this is an important and an interesting topic that is worth covering, but I'm not interested in conspiracy theories, the what it's, or any other kind of opinions. Only concrete, measurable facts please, as that is the only thing that can move this forward. Because the point here is to gather, measure facts, present them in a clear manner, so that people can form their own, informed opinions.
@@MyDeepGuide My assertion is that lacking traffic tracking metrics, it's unsafe to assert that a thing is not happening simply because the obvious culprits are not in use. I appreciate you added more clarity with some investigation in this comment, my only concern is that twice in the video there was an overbroad and general claim of safety made where it isn't sure without the testing you also mentioned should be done to speak with authority. No insinuations, no misguided sense that data is in fact private, just a simple statement that it's optimistic at best to say that not signing in to Chinese services keeps your data from Chinese servers barring deeper analysis. Nothing else. Really appreciate the depth you go into in the reviews, keep up the great work.
@@JustinGoffinet 'Chinese device spying on me' is political propaganda and paranoia, nothing more. If a person is so damn concerned about their privacy then they should NEVER be online. Period.
Hi, Voya. Thank you for the review. My question is: Can we switch the languages when we type on? I would really like to use Greek Polytonic to be able to write ancient Greek with spirits, accents, iota subscripted, and other features of ancient Greek. I would also like to write Hebrew and Arabic. Does the tablet have all the keyboards we usually have on our laptops? Thank you.
Lol, if you hate the upgrade path of these devices, you would have hated computers in the 90's. You would spend 2k on one, and no more than 3 months later, cpu's doubled in speed.
with external keyboard only one problem: if you need more than one lang it's not working. I'm use Eng and Ukraine and can't change lang by hote key or by screen. :(
I use it all the time. I use the GBoard as my keyboard for the NA3C and have it configured for 3 languages. When using the physical keyboard, simply use SHIFT+SPACE and that will cycle through different languages setup in the virtual keyboard. You need to remember that the physical keyboard is simply acting as a controller for the virtual keyboard that you have setup and enabled on the device, nothing more. Hope this helps :)
Hi Voja, outstanding stuff as usual. Have a request - would you mind sharing your essential apps you have on your NA3C desktop? Other thing - is there any preference when it comes to using microSD card for this device or any reliable brand will be just fine? Keep up the great work and Happy New 2024 Year!
Thanks for a comprehensive review. The Q&A section at the end is pure gold. Superb idea. I'm was on the fence, should I buy a Freewrite traveler, alpha, the supernate, the remarkable, iPad mini? I have decided my next buy will be the note air will be my next device.
I was interested in buying an Air C but I heard the screen was very dim and not very sharp. Is this issue particular to the model of the colour screen?
Hi, thank you for this Video and all the Information. I am very interested in this device. Is it possible to send something to a Printer and if Yes HOW ? I have a Printer in my home Wlan Network. Thanks, Alexander
Voja, I just got the Note air 3 c for Christmas! I have had the Note air 2 for a couple years… I’m actually quite disappointed in how dark the screen is without the back light on. Anyone else have this issue?
Hi Voja, could you please try some 3rd-party drawing apps and let us know what the lag is like? I've got a NA2+ and will upgrade if the lag is sufferable... Thanks!
Was playing with my replacement NA3C, which i originally thought had no dead pixels, but now I'm seeing several deadpixels(!) They're less noticeable then the first NAC3 i had replaced (thanks amazon!)---but now that i've seen them, it's impossible to not see them. Considering I ordered a TUCP to compare and it also has dead pixels... that's a pretty dismal rate of bad screens. It is just assumed that people will tolerate dead pixels? Not cool... Also, I'm noticing the TUCP screen color looks less white than the NAC3, now that I look at them side by side... they have the same e-ink settings and brightness... anyone else notice this? The TUPC seems to be a bit more greenish(?)... odd.
basic pen included. Pro pen is an extra. If you buy from BOOX, you have the option to choose the pro pen instead of the basic for a higher price, of course.
@@random99789 Hi. Thanks for your reply. I have already tried the recharge trick, but the unit was at 95% when the freezing occurred. I have some emails exchanges with Boox support and tried everything they suggest (switch off and on, long hold until blue light then 10 quick pushed ...). Back light reacts to all interaction, but display stays still. I'm maybe wrong but I think it's a hardware display malfunction. The unit was delivered less than 12 hours before it freeze. Bad luck ...
I need help! I got my note air 3c. Love it but it only came with a USB cord and no charging brick? Which one do I get? Any help would be great! Online it said 5v 2a or 5v 2.4a. Is this up to date for the note air 3c?
Hi Voja, just bought note air 3c 😁, your videos helped a lot to make choice ! This tab is awesome ❤ In this vid you talked about kindle premium pen which is full functionnal. I don't know this pen, can you tell me if this pen worth it please ?
How does adding an SD card work? Is it possible to automatically save everything to the SD card so that you can bypass using server accounts for backup etc? Also how long does it take to charge the Note Air 3C? Is it possible to print notebooks to a bluetooth printer?
Regarding the "wanting the newest"-phenomena, I totally agree with your mindset hardwarewise. It is more or less the same view I have as well, but softwarewise it is another story. Android devices are generally mediocre at best regarding software updates, and way too often bad to very bad. Boox devices are somewhere in the direction of mediocre. My Note Air 2 does not seem to receive any Boox OS/Software updates since a wile, which I found rather disappointing, especially since it still has some quirks and smaller bugs! This fact plays in to the phenomena, where you actually want to wait a little, just to get the most out of the updates. Further, when you then see updates on newer devices, that hardwarewise should work perfectly fine to on your old device, it strengthens that annoying, but understandable, phenomena even more.
Hi Voja. Great video! I have a few questions about latest Boox devices. Will you be receiving Tab Ultra C Pro to review it since it is out for a week? I'm curious about it because it seems to me that TUC Pro is replacing TUC. I want to buy Boox device for tablet/PC purpose, for note-taking I have reMarkable 2. So my question is what devices would you recommend to use in that way, Note Air 3 C or Tap Ultra C Pro? I guess I have to wait for upcoming videos about this topic if you receive TUC Pro. Have a great loving life, Voja!
Hi Voja :)I have the Note air 3 c and installed the app "notable" . The app opens fine, but the stylus doesent work. Can you test the app on your 3 C. I have the same problem in "tools for boox" app. The native notes app work fine. Also do you know of any apps that syncs with exchange calendar and that you can anotate in? Like the "pencil planner" in ios? I used this all the time on my ipad.
Hey does anyone know how to import the notes from another device from cloud ? I had the Note3 and migrated to the new Air3C but I cant access the old notes :S thank you in advanced
Well i got mine after your first impression and review. Mine is a 2.8 but It has 4 dead pixels and a darck shadow on the lefy side . I do wonder if a 2.4 cpu difference is felt on the device if i will get a 2.4 replacement
This is the app page, and I simply turned off auto arrange and have arranged them in groups and using manually positioning. All devices can do this, and it's been available for at least 2-3 years that I know of.
Hi Voja, thank you for your usefull videos. I have a Note Air 1 and considering since months to buy a supernote, because of your reviews about the note-taking features of supernote (titels, keywords-index etc.). If I understood right, the new OS of Boox doesnt still have these features or did I miss it? And do you have any information, when a new supernote-device will be released?
Thank you for your videos! I just got my Note Air 3C and I love it. Except for the battery life like you said! But its great overall. One question. Should I power down my device every time? Or is it better for batterly life longevity to just allow the note air to go to sleep mode?
Thank you for another good video regarding Air3 C, I got it today, and I did some trial with the device. Especially comparison between RM2 as this is my first e-Ink device for my everyday use. And, I found something interesting while using this new device. As you may aware that the RM2 pen can be also used for Boox device, and you might already know a difference. I am not sure this is only because of the pen nib shape or not, but RM2 pen can draw thinner line under same pressure condition on both devices. So, I feel like I use two different pen. This means that I can anyway use each pen for different purpose. ANYWAY, this is not very important. More important thing when it comes to E-Ink display. Monochromatic has more clear and brighter look than Kaleido 3, so this is not a choice. They are let's say just different product for different purpose even though they are in same product category in a way. We use different type of note for my use case when using real paper note. It is something like that. I really like both devices with different reason for each. I will wait for your new review or video about air3 C.
Thank you Voja, for your great detailed well structured reviews. When I tested Scribe vs Note Air 2 in a dark/night mode, then the Book device was ‘leaking’ more light through dark/black background with about the same level of front light. How about the Note Air 3 C in the dark mode compared to Scribe?
Thanks for these in depth comparisons... i might finally upgrade my Remarkable 1. Can you give thoughts on writing experience vs the RM1? I really like the RM 1 feel, and it is the only thing holding me back.
Hi Voya, thanks for answering so many of the great questions. I was crossing my fingers that i would have seen my question regarding how well the onenote app works on this device. Were you able to test it? Many thanks
The release of new products is by itself not an issue BUT they stop updating / focusing the older models as they wouldn't if they didn't release new models. So, I'm worried that my Boox haven't had an update in 7 months! And there are bugs that still aren't corrected...
Nice video as always. Regarding the Q10, I'd like to discuss why I believe many people aren't satisfied with the rapid release cycle. The issue lies in the fact that as a company releases more devices, it becomes increasingly challenging to support them all with updates and new software releases. Therefore, the problem isn't necessarily the frequent release of new devices, but rather the lack of long-term support for each of them.
But Boox' devices that are now 4-5 years old are still getting the lates OS updates and features, so that is a pretty long term support under any circumstances.
@@MyDeepGuide Here what Boox shares on its website: "BOOX is committed to providing free firmware updates for all models for at least three years after the product's launch. Through continuous updates, every BOOX user can have a better experience. And every BOOX user can get 10GB of free Onyx cloud storage to store their notes online and keep them safe." In any case, the more devices are produced (and with different architectures or Android versions), the more difficult it becomes to promise long-term support. It's reassuring to know that Boox still supports devices from 5 years ago, but the production of many devices doesn't help to foster a positive perception in this regard.
@@MyDeepGuide Certainly, however, as a company, Boox must also take into account the subjective impressions people have in order to increase device sales. On average, companies that produce a wide variety of devices often struggle to provide long-term support, so I believe the doubts about Boox are understandable, although the facts tell a different story. Nonetheless, I believe it is more environmentally sustainable and forward-thinking to produce fewer well-designed devices rather than releasing numerous revisions shortly after.
Hi Voja, I am considering a purchase of the Note Air 3C for my daily work against eye strain. So the main purposes for this device would be to read A4 pdfs and using the device as a secondary monitor as well as a bit of browsing of course. My questions are: 1. Does reading A4 documents work nicely (maybe landscape mode), or is it a pain? 2. If it is a pain, would you suggest rather to wait for a potential Tab X C in 13inch? (Which I hope will come out soon. 😀 3. In the video you talked about an app to use the USB-C to HMI to use it as a secondary monitor. Where do I need to install the app (on the reader, on the PC or both)? I am asking as I cannot install anything on my work PC. Thanks a lot for your videos! You are doing an awesome job! Take care!
I am not sure about your evaluation regarding rapid charging/discharging while using as an external monitor. Based on my experience it depends on how the power management circuit is designed. For instance the power controller could not use the battery at all when USB is providing the power supply.
That is only IF the device is using the power management circuitry that operates that way and can handle things they way you assume it will. Provided that Boox devices can't even figure out when they are busy, and the fact that some users have ruined their device doing the very thing I am warning against, it's prudent to handle your device on the cautious side of things.
Great video and very useful information! Does anyone know if the price of the tablet includes the stylus and the case or do you have to get them at extra cost?
Hi Voja, thank you for your great in-depth videos! I really like the precision you put into analyzing every single detail, and most of the time I agree with your criticism and your point of view. I am on the verge of buying an e-ink device for the first time, mainly to take notes for my work (I do academic research) and to read and annotate academic articles in pdf. After a long search, I am now leaning towards the Supernote A5x, I really like their operating system and the fact that it is a device focused on writing, so no distractions, notifications, audio... However, here in Europe buying a Supernote is very expensive, due to import taxes (~700€). Buying a Boox, on the other hand, is much cheaper, because they are distributed by amazon (~500€). At this point, I am wondering if it makes more sense to get a Boox instead of a Supernote. How does this device compare with the Supernote? Thank you
I also read and annotate PDF academic journal articles currently on a rm2 which has been great for the last 3 years I think however I’ve just ordered the NA3C as the lack of any colour makes the results sections of papers impossible to read. I would find myself having to open the pdf on my laptop to look at the figures as my subject we always use colour figures in papers. If your papers are just text then ignore me but if you do science then avoid b&w ereaders
@@ManDinner that's a good point, thank you. Yes I do science, so yes I understand what you mean. Even though the majority of journals still require that the plots should be understandable in b&w, that would make reading plots much more confusing.
What is the drainage battery compared between shutdown and sleep mode? From what I tested did not appear that different, so I'm leaning toward having a longer time to shutdown of 4 hours instead of the 15 minutes
@@MyDeepGuide I guess everyone contrast tolerance is subjective but you can record your videos with front light off to show how it is compared to another ereadrer like the kindle paperwhite. Unless u have floodlights or something reading without turning in the frontlight is going to stress your eyes
Thanka for the great review and Q&A! I am trying to dertemine which eInk is best for specifically Note Taking. From the research I've done and videos watched, I've narrowed it down to the Note Air 3C and SuperNote. Do you have a recommendation for strictly replacing my paper notebooks? I do not care about any other features as I am at my PC with Ultrawide Monitors a majority of the time which is just more efficient for my daily work. I would love to replace all my sticky notes and notebooks though with a digital notebook. Hoping for some advice and thanks in advance!
Well, it depends on use case scenarios, but I will tell you this. I love my NA3C, and I use it as a tablet replacement, for reading, Planner use, quick note jotting down, browsing. I will keep my Supernote A5X and I will keep using it as my primary note taking device for my study, research and development note taking needs.
Really happy to hear your direct answer on the screencast function! Not too familiar with the android implementation, but it should likely function well enough for me. Thank you!
Thank you for the video, great job. Big fan, have all your pdfs. I always value your integrity comparing to crowd of paid "reviewers", therefore I think you should always disclaim you have different or "modified" device that you test and show - than advertised, intended and that most people would receive to be truly objective. Just to be honest with viewers. They might have different experience with device thank you.
Will definitely do. As all your videos 😉 Again greatly appreciated your work and videos on which I based my purchasing decisions in the past. As an owner of Scribe and RM2 my needs evolve and looking for next eink tablet, but still on the fence with color screen (dark "whites"), so maybe NA3 B&W or plus is worth waiting. Thanks again, Voja!
DONT BUY IT. just dont. I returned mine yesturday because the screen is so dark that its a pain to read a normal book on this device. I paided nearly 80€ in order to get the refund and i feel myself a white mouse, sacrificed in a failed technologic experiment. I wont purchase any other device with Kaleido 3, whick is the killer to the joy of reading. Generally, i like Voja´s videos, but this time, sorry, i cant agree with him. Dont buy it and save your eyes.
And which part do you disagree with? The con that I mentioned in the review that the screen is darker than the monochromatic one and that you'll have to use front light to compensate? Is it that one?
I have to disagree, I have multiple kindles, and the supernote A5X and for me the reading experience on the Air 3C is the best, so rather than saying a flat out don't buy, it's more helpful to say - take a good look at side by side comparisons and see if that's going to be an issue for you, as was pointed out in this video
The Ebook is not for everyone, Im new myself and although I find the display a bit on the disappointing side I dont have anything else to compare it with and this is my first time with this type of display. Its not gong to replace my iPad for most things but I am slowly coming around to making more notes and I like to do more reading without killing my eyes so will stick with it see how it goes.
"I have purchased it and it's mine, whee!" is exactly how I feel with every new gadget :)
Thanks for taking the time to tell everyone else about your experience!
May I ask about your screensaver? Looks great!
It the default Boox calendar screen saver option.
I would do it for this device too
You use a separate BT keyboard for your laptop?!
Let me introduce you to the world of split ergonomic collumnar staggered keyboards. The rabbit hole is deep. If you choose to dive in you'll soon design your own keyboard.
This video sum's it up nicely: ua-cam.com/video/rrska7UU7BE/v-deo.html
To answer your question yes. most of the time due to RSI and for general comfort using a computer (fully programmable keyboard).
It's usually 3+ years with Box, which is basically standard these days.
You know the answer: next year there will be a new device; so wait for the new release and buy this device at a discount as this is what usually happens with Boox devices: their residual value is garbage usually, since they make so many. As far as software they support them for a while, so that should not be a concern
It may only be the best and the latest for a short time, but it may still be fit for purpose for an extended time. Just let go of the FOMO! 😊
@@2niteL8R FOMO is what push sales of 90% of electronics :D
Does it support MS Word documents?
Please make a video about what is new with last OS update for Palma, TUC and Nova air 2
I can't, as I no longer have any if those devices.
I'm programmer and may be you don't notice but the strain on the eyes is real, i didn't wanted to believe at the bennining but using eink regulary now had conviced me, now i'm waiting one monitor that overcomes my wife "Quality and Money control" jajaja
Not standar monitors are a little priciers.
I enjoy the channel watching where this electronic paper technology goes. It's exciting.
A little more than two year now had convert me in a loyal follower to our great reviewer Voja.
Congrats for the content in this great channel !!!
Lol, I just checked mine. Seems like I am one of the lucky ones to get 2.8 GHz and no dead pixels.
How did you rearrange the icons? Im not able to do so. help please
Sold on keyboard latency.
Thanks for doing this video! It is answering a lot of the questions that I had. I'm very close to hitting the PayPal button! lol
It's when I went from LCD to e-ink that I finally realized I was living in an LCD nightmare.
I have two questions:
1) can anyone give any indication of what feels better to write on?
A very useful QA video. My dream Boox would be a Note Air 3 (b/w) with a keyboard folio.
Hello,
is it based on android?
Is it possible to install apps (like vscode),
and use it to write code?
Thanks
Period.
Thank you for this video❤
The screen has film protection by default
Thank you.
Thank you Voja. Your reviews are excellent.❤
Lol, if you hate the upgrade path of these devices, you would have hated computers in the 90's. You would spend 2k on one, and no more than 3 months later, cpu's doubled in speed.
How young do you think I am??? 😁 Of course I remember it, especially the 486 rapid evolution :)
with external keyboard only one problem: if you need more than one lang it's not working.
Hi Voja, thanks for your great reviews, very helpful. One question, have you try GoodNotes on the A3C?.
Hi, thank you for this Video and all the Information.
I am very interested in this device.
Is it possible to send something to a Printer and if Yes HOW ?
I have a Printer in my home Wlan Network.
Thanks,
Alexander
The TUPC seems to be a bit more greenish(?)... odd.
Is writing on onenote app have the same feel? Is that pen included or sold separately
basic pen included. Pro pen is an extra. If you buy from BOOX, you have the option to choose the pro pen instead of the basic for a higher price, of course.
I all.
I have a Note air 3 c with a frozen screen. Does anyone know the hard reboot procedure ?
Thank you
@@random99789 Hi.
This tab is awesome ❤
In this vid you talked about kindle premium pen which is full functionnal.
I had the Note3 and migrated to the new Air3C but I cant access the old notes :S
thank you in advanced
Well i got mine after your first impression and review.
Mine is a 2.8 but
It has 4 dead pixels and a darck shadow on the lefy side .
I do wonder if a 2.4 cpu difference is felt on the device if i will get a 2.4 replacement
I think the only con is Boox's library. I just cannot get to grips with it. Do you have any good pointers?!
Is it good to read comics? (Not manga...Marvel and DC comics....)
How did you get the home page with 4 icons in the middle? Is that an update to do on my Lumi 2 or is that for the new devices?
This is the app page, and I simply turned off auto arrange and have arranged them in groups and using manually positioning. All devices can do this, and it's been available for at least 2-3 years that I know of.
@@MyDeepGuide Thank you so much for sharing that!
"05:53 Q3: Can it be used as a Monitor?"-->
how long can I use it in this way ?
Thank you Voja, for your great detailed well structured reviews.
When I tested Scribe vs Note Air 2 in a dark/night mode, then the Book device was ‘leaking’ more light through dark/black background with about the same level of front light. How about the Note Air 3 C in the dark mode compared to Scribe?
Do you think that boox will have a special offer on Black friday?
Thanks for these in depth comparisons... i might finally upgrade my Remarkable 1. Can you give thoughts on writing experience vs the RM1? I really like the RM 1 feel, and it is the only thing holding me back.
Hi Voya, thanks for answering so many of the great questions. I was crossing my fingers that i would have seen my question regarding how well the onenote app works on this device. Were you able to test it? Many thanks
For me, it's orange logo is the only thing holding me back. I think I can deal with that
The release of new products is by itself not an issue BUT they stop updating / focusing the older models as they wouldn't if they didn't release new models. So, I'm worried that my Boox haven't had an update in 7 months! And there are bugs that still aren't corrected...
They are update for at least 3 years, but you should remember that Box doesn't issue more than 2-3 updates per year
Nice video as always.
And every BOOX user can get 10GB of free Onyx cloud storage to store their notes online and keep them safe."
In any case, the more devices are produced (and with different architectures or Android versions), the more difficult it becomes to promise long-term support. It's reassuring to know that Boox still supports devices from 5 years ago, but the production of many devices doesn't help to foster a positive perception in this regard.
But shouldn't the perception be based on, oh I don't know, the objective reality, and not subjective impressions that are heavily biased?
@@MyDeepGuide Certainly, however, as a company, Boox must also take into account the subjective impressions people have in order to increase device sales.
On average, companies that produce a wide variety of devices often struggle to provide long-term support, so I believe the doubts about Boox are understandable, although the facts tell a different story.
Nonetheless, I believe it is more environmentally sustainable and forward-thinking to produce fewer well-designed devices rather than releasing numerous revisions shortly after.
Hi Voja,
I am considering a purchase of the Note Air 3C for my daily work against eye strain. So the main purposes for this device would be to read A4 pdfs and using the device as a secondary monitor as well as a bit of browsing of course.
My questions are:
1. Does reading A4 documents work nicely (maybe landscape mode), or is it a pain?
2. If it is a pain, would you suggest rather to wait for a potential Tab X C in 13inch? (Which I hope will come out soon. 😀
3. In the video you talked about an app to use the USB-C to HMI to use it as a secondary monitor. Where do I need to install the app (on the reader, on the PC or both)? I am asking as I cannot install anything on my work PC.
Thanks a lot for your videos! You are doing an awesome job!
Take care!
1. Yes
2. On note air3c and then connect wirless from pc to the note air or via bluetooth
How does note taking app compare to remarkable 2?
Would you suggest some form of screen protector?
Is it possible to print notebooks to a bluetooth printer?
The basic stylus, yes included in the $499 cost. The cover is another $50.
@@dr007md Thank you!
Thought u needed. A usb connector to use a keyboard, how come??
Bluetooth.

Same here, I haven't done a measurement test, because I didn't notice any significant difference to actually be bothered by doing it :)
No way you can read this thing without the front light on... it is very very dark.
Well, I'm reading and typing on it right now, without a front light in a normal well lit room during daytime.
@@MyDeepGuide Appreciate the response!
Why do you prefer the Supernote for note taking?
Is it the battery life? Or the distraction free device?
Or the features?@@MyDeepGuide
The features.
Well if I had known the C was going to come soon I wouldn’t have gotten the tab ultra.
Please can you help me? I forgot my password and I want to recover it. How can I?
You need to contact Boox support.
@@MyDeepGuide How can you help me further please? I sent you a message on Instagram
No, unfortunately I can't help you further.
@@MyDeepGuide Thank you, I have solved the problem
Really happy to hear your direct answer on the screencast function! Not too familiar with the android implementation, but it should likely function well enough for me. Thank you!
Thank you for the video, great job. Big fan, have all your pdfs. I always value your integrity comparing to crowd of paid "reviewers", therefore I think you should always disclaim you have different or "modified" device that you test and show - than advertised, intended and that most people would receive to be truly objective. Just to be honest with viewers. They might have different experience with device thank you.
Also, is there any official Boox's statement on 2.8-gate?
You should watch my video on that, which is coming out next week, so that you can form your opinion based on actual facts, and not on assumptions.
You're right. It is too dark when compared to RM2 even with the light at maximum. The only benefit is bedtime reading.
I'm holding out for the monochrome NA3 device. I don't need color and I can tell just from the images and reviews that I would feel as you do.
could you do a percentage of devices that have 2.8 GHz cores ? i assume it would be in the separate video you mention.
Yes, this will be included in the separate video that will be coming next week.
