      Voja, some idea for video: screen casting with Boox tablet. I'm in education sector, and I used to use wacom tablet+whiteboard software to draw during class presentations. Recently I started using my Note Air 2 Plus instead of wacom tablet. I'm currently using Airdroid Cast to present the boox screen to students. I also tried Anydesk, which works very well, but it's a bit too pricey just for screencasting. Any thoughts?

      @@gwojcieszczuk I don't know the English name of that device, but it's like overhead projector, not optical but digital. That device can project paper or book to the large computer screen in the front of classroom, and you can easily swich between PPT and book (or your Boox tablet) because that device is controlled by the computer on teacher desk. It became a thing about fifteen some years ago, at least in my hometown, and every classroom has that device since then.

      @Greg W Thank you very much for your support! As for casting, I have tried several different apps and have come to a conclusion that as long as you pick one of the good rated and "standard" apps, they tend to do the job quite nicely. However, I personally stay away from free apps like those, since you'll be sharing quite a lot of your data and opening up a lot of permissions for those apps, and it's better to be on the cautious side of things. As for specific examples, I haven't used it in such a way for some time now. I remember that AirDroid used to work well, but I would need to check the options available now, and then come back to you with an updated opinion, that is more current and valid :)

    Speaking of traps, pitfalls, and snakes, here is an edge-case I believe it would be interesting to test:
    Suppose you have the same document open on two or more devices, as you did in your demo. What happens if you make a change to the document on one device, *do not sync yet*, then make a change to the document on a different device, and only then activate the sync function on both devices? Do both changes get reflected on both devices? Does one of the updated versions override the other?
    I grant that there are probably a limited set of practical situations in which this would become relevant (limited but not zero-I could see it happening if, say, you and your spouse share a calendar or organizer for family events). In any case, as a matter of testing behaviour and exception handling, I had to dream it up.

    Hi Voja, thanks for all the excellent videos, I have Go 10.3. and I really love !! it. I couldnt resist getting it, actually not that long after my Note Air 2 and Go 6. I have been viewing also your video on sync of document /library folder(not the notes). I have binded with Dropbox. My question is simple: I dont understand the need of Dropsync..Why do you need it? In my library on Boox - using cloud folder view - I can view all my Dropbox documents already, I access and download them to Boox, I make annotations, and they sync already automatically to the cloud/Dropbox. Is there something I have totally missed…? :-)

  • @jamesthompson7282

    Thanks, Voja. Good explanation of a convoluted process that should NEVER have been so complex.
    This is ANOTHER instance of Boox's operating system being BAD. I love the device - sort of - but this stuff drives us ALL crazy. The overhead involved in learning to get productive on the device is ridiculous. Android has a user interface; so does Windows; so does Apple's iPad & desktop OS's. They aren't identical in interface approach but they're pretty consistent. Boox looks like they decided to invent the UI from scratch without ever having seen anyone else's. Damn, it's frustrating.
    When a document is accessed from Boox devices or sent to a Boox device it's source directory path should be captured with it & be part of the header file (metadata) for the file. Should be transparent to the user. Making that work in future UI upgrades should be possible invisibly to the user. We can hope.
    I gather each new version of the Boox interface includes some minor changes that bring the UI a little closer to market standard. Let's hope they pick up the pace.
    Meanwhile, Voja's videos are extremely helpful. I'm subscribed & a fan.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  7 місяців тому

      Exactly my thoughts as well. Metadata exists for that purpose (amongst other), and it can also contain a unique ID int, and that makes the process for the system as simple as:
      1. Find object with ID ####
      2. Synchronize data
      while the user only needs to press the sync button, if even that, in case there is an auto-sync option. It's baffling sometimes what is going on...
      Thank you for watching and for the sub! 😁

So you need to load the books using the same method. On my 10.3 I dragged the books from Calibre into push to boox library. When I got the Go 7 I loaded them straight from Calibre using a usb cable. I had to delete those books and then load them via push to boox and now everything is working fine.

As an example, my free storage shot up recently from 1GB to over 4GB out of my allotted 5GB. I have no idea why. When I look online, it says I have over 3GB in ‘other storage’. I have asked Boox how I can access this ‘other storage’ area in case I wanted to delete some of those files. For some reason I thought MDO had to be synced through the Google Drive Autosync app. I modified the set up to mirror yours (not in the Drive Sync), but I do have a question of why MDO does not sync via Google Drive like other files.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  Рік тому +1

      Because the handwritten annotations are kept as a separate, to the user and apps, invisible file which cannot be synchronized via 3rd party apps. So, the only way to synchronize MDO (without exporting it) is via the Boox Library synchronization service, as shown in the video.

    Wow! That's nuts! I just have 1 device and just want to have a back up in Google Drive. I managed to do the sync with the cloud, but the file is not in the cloud, only info about the notes and annotations. I have resolved the issue throuhg a third party FolderSync, that does a good job syncing both the files and PDF notes, but when I work with DJVU this is not working. The notes stay in the NeoReader only. Do you know how to embed annotations in DJVU (and add highlights in EPUB) so that during sync this would stay in the file? NeoReader seems to add things to PDF only and as for other formats it keeps the data separate.

    Thanks for the great video! Very useful on helping me set up things up, or rather knowing I'd set my Google Drive and Dropbox up correctly so I could send myself off down a different rabbit hole trying to figure out how to get my Onyx sync back on. (Issue and Solution in a different comment in case anyone else needs it).
    I've been admiring Boox's ease of use in terms having the Google app store in their new almost phone ereader vs my Hisense A9 phone which doesn't, in terms of potentially recommending them to other people. I guess you could say this is a bit of a reality check that Boox still isn't exactly the easiest to use. XD Also I think I've gotten used to my phones, Hisense and Iphone alike, shooting me off towards the exact settings I need to streak if something is blocked or at least having that option. I can block/unblock things all day long if I want to, with just a quick trip to the main settings to flip a switch when needs change. Boox did not do that when trying to figure out how to turn the Onyx cloud sync back on, it wasn't even in the main menu or the notes settings but an individual notes settings of all places. Which okay kind of makes sense but I just spent three days, on and off, looking for it on my Air because I expected it to be in the main settings or main notes settings or some sort of 'main'. But anyway found it!
    Also just got my Tab Ultra and accidentally blocked the physical keyboard because I originally thought it was the default web browser asking for permissions and I didn't need the webbrowser, and then the keyboard seemingly randomly asked for audio permissions I didn't want to give or need and then I got the dreaded 'device doesn't have enough permissions to function' and realised in the default web browser probably the first time I'd used the physical keyboard and whoops that probably wasn't the browser asking for permission. Cue searching through the settings trying to find the physical keyboard permission settings and eventually doing all but a factory reset to get the keyboard working again because I couldn't find the permission settings. I've gotten so used to being able to flick permissions on and off as needed on my Hisense A9 that I just expect them to be there partially if it bricks a physical device specifically designed to work with that device like the keyboard cover that's literally connected to it.
    Just... Boox's stuff is amazing and let's you do lots of stuff, but yeah the setup process for edevices is not always the simplest in general and I will include my Hisense A9 in thatfor all that once I have things set up the way I want it works perfectly, it's just getting there can be a Process.

    A possible reason to "hide" this synchronisation is the fact that you can not only synchronise your own documents but also the e-books that you bought. This could seriously affect the author's rights to the book. As stated: Basic Copyright Protection: By law, only the author, who is the owner of the copyright, has the right to reproduce or distribute the eBook, unless express permission has been granted. So the company and the user could risk lawsuits for making this possible. So I do understand that they are not keen to make that too easy to use.

    Issue & Solution: I'd turned off Onyx cloud sync then couldn't figure out how to turn it back on through the main settings. I was getting a 'Onyx cloud sync has been turned off. Please turn on the sync switch first.' error when I try to bulk sync my notes with the cloud button beside the search button but it didn't give me a link to the settings area I needed to correct this. Tried opening some notes and syncing them individually and they were also giving me the onyx sync turned off message.
    Solution: In the Notes area open the third icon, square with writing and a pen, then go through to a note with a little sync blocked icon, long press on the note, it'll open the General settings tab, click on the Sync tab, there will be a bit down the bottom with 'Onyx Sync (Manual Sync is not supported when it is turned off)' turn that back on and follow the prompts. There should also be a list of syncing options eg. Dropbox, Google Drive and Onyx for you to tick. I think I flicked the previously mentioned Onyx permission on first but if that doesn't work try those instead.
    It also has a Sync and Accounts button in the syncing tab, so if you want to sync the note or a shortcut link to the Accounts main settings to add another syncing option that's there as well.

    no company with strict IT policy will allow this type of cloud-syncing

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  Рік тому +4

      Nope, this is why the directory path is important. What it does it simply copies the .notes file that contains the handwritten annotations data and pastes it into the same location on another device. The .notes file references a specific document file (this is why the file name is important) and it has to be located in the same path where the referenced document lies. When opening the document, it checks for adequate .notes file, and if it finds it, it will display the annotations.
      The server and the synchronization service has absolutely no idea of what or where your documents are, only where to copy which .notes files.

    • @kurtb369
      @kurtb369 Рік тому

      @@MyDeepGuide thanks for your swift feedback !
      but .... if the path is known, surely it is working with the directory, not ?

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  Рік тому +1

      No, the server has no awareness of your local device, it just stores the file. The device is the one that calls up a request to compare the size of the local .notes file against the one stored on the server, and if there are changes between the two, it synchronizes. Synchronization is again the device uploading the file to the server, or downloading it from the server and storing it into the appropriate directory. Directory path info is probably contained in some form of a meta file, that is normally used for version control of files on a server. So the server is there just to store the file and information needed about the file, so that the local devices can know what to do with it and that they have easy access to it.
