  • DIY SMD Storage and Lab Tour.
This is just a short video about my lab and it's organization. I'm making changes to try and keep my components organized so I introduced my latest creation. It is just a small shelf that can hold small plastic boxes that store my SMD components that come on cut tape.

Great idea - I wish you could tell more about how the plastic boxes were made or where to get them.

Hi Peter! Thanks for stopping by and watching the video. I hope you liked it. The boxes I used in this video were ordered from Aliexpress. The measurements are 1cm x 7.5cm x 7.5cm. They are shipped unfolded or flattened. They are easy to unfold but since I had so many, I paid my kids to help me expand them. I just looked at the order I placed back then and I couldn't order them from the same vendor but I'm sure there are other vendors thru Aliexpress. Good luck on your search and I hope you gave the video a thumbs up. If you haven't already, please do subscribe. Thanks again for watching.

What a great idea! thank you for sharing. I've been looking for methods to store my components and your video is very helpful.
I have a question, are you concerned about the shelf life of your components since they are not kept in sealed bags and are exposed to air moisture, or do you just use them all up regularly so that is not a concern?

Hi duaa! Thanks for stopping by and watching the video. As you stated, there is cause for concern when storing smd components in this manner. Since I dont use an SMD oven of any type, I dont have issues from doing this. I would not store components this way if I did have an oven. I hand solder my boards with solder that contains water soluble flux and then I wash them in hot water with a toothbrush. Then I dry them with the hot air gun, gently. I haven't had any issues. Hope this answers your questions. Thanks again for watching and I hope you gave the video a thumbs up and subscribed.

    ESD Safe?

Not for ICs. I only store resistors, capacitors and eventually diodes.
      Thanks for posting your question.

Interesting. If I had the space and the machines to use it on, I would too. My storage system came about me having too many bags the parts came in when I ordered them. I didn't want to put the bags in a box and have to sift through them whenever I needed a part.
      Thanks for the link.
