    These two TVs deserve side by side comparison in a normal living room. Anti glare screens are usually welcome but if that means less dynamic range and less vibrant colours that it is not something that some people will embrace happily ! Thus, more tests and more comaprisons are eagerly awaited ! Great first look, though !

    The biggest plus here imo is being easier to clean and not scratching. I just got my fist QD-OLED monitor and the top coating is ridiculously easy to scratch up. Can look up all the posts on the alienware qd oleds coming in scratched up. I had my monitor laying on a soft bed surface to apply a vesa mount and ended up scratching up the coating.

    All I want is for the S90D to have low bitrate processing similar to a Sony. I don't need to be blinded by 10,000 nits. Just make it so that the actual image that the vast majority of our content is.. actually looks good. Crazy idea, I know.

      @@michaeloconnor9465 I'm aware. My point was what I want in addition to what we already have. The S95C and S90C are already plenty bright. But if the processing and upscaling of streaming content looks inferior to the competition, there's really no point to a blindingly bright sun. I want the picture to look great from a $3,000 TV.. not like crap but but woohoo it has blinding highlights. Processing is everything, not nits. The nits are already fine. The processing isn't.

      @@mootsym TVs at that level will have top of the line processing. I have a 65" panasonic OLED I bought in 2019 for £2200 and the processing and PQ are very good. I could do with more nits when watching HDR content. The more nits don't always means a over picture but what it does mean accurate colours and less blooming. I would like to see if these new TVs have better processing and with better shadow detail and PQ.

      @@michaeloconnor9465 Not all TVs at this level have top of the line processing though. I thought it was common knowledge that LG and Samsung are behind Sony with their low bit-rate processing. What this means is an image that doesn't look like a compressed mess. This is something that Samsung is allegedly improving in 2024 with their S95D and S90D OLEDs.

      I am not a fan of Samsung processing. I always found on there on there TV fast moving scenes you would get stutter. I buy either panny or Sony for their top notch processing. If you are in the US you can't get Panasonic and your only choice is Sony. I hope other manufacturers follow Samsung and use anti reflective coating. I hate reflections.

    Samsung trying the rebrand matte finish as something new.
    But my main gripe against glossy finishes, is that the crisp reflection is distracting, and can make you focus on the object/window being reflected instead of the picture.
    In my opinion this is worse than elevated blacks.
    And when you're already in a dark room and you litterally see yourself and couch being lit up by the screen, there is nothing you can do to remove that. (having a black blanket maybe?

    Being a projector guy, I really like this matte finish. The frame goes too far for me the other way in terms of what you give up in image quality, so this might be the sweet spot. I never really liked the shiny gloss of TV. I grew up going to the cinema pretty much every week. I even used to skip school to go to the cinema with my lunch money so there’s allot of nostalgia attached the that no reflection look for me. It’s a bit like the argument for vinyl vs digital music or movies shot on film instead of digital. It’s not always about high fidelity, sometimes it’s about the way it makes you feel because of what you’ve grown up on. It’s not a science based argument. It’s an emotional one.

    As an owner of the S95B 65" & S95C 55" the cleaning comment God damn let me tell you what... I prefer the gloss over matte but the only solution I found that is reliable is 70% isopropyl alcohol just don't leave it on the screen for long and you better make sure you have multiple clean micro Fibre clothes at the ready. Because the grease just loves to smear and get trapped on the coating and you gotta worth your tail of to make it turn back to that Rosa color because any grease not cleaned will leave a blue smudge.

      Only use water. It does take work but limit it to that single area and don't go all crazy. Use a microfiber cloth and put some water on it. Dab the spot then use the dry area of the cloth to clear it out. Use a circular motion if needed to even it out.

    • @nihren2406
      @nihren2406 6 місяців тому +1

      @riptonedwards9175 Why would the S95D not be third generation? Thus far they haven't shown off a new generation panel that Samsung Electronics has not then used in their flagship QD-OLED. The third gen QD-OLED panel was at the show. This particular demo unit might not have been, according to KG they didn't say, but the third gen panel is there and Samsung was proudly showing it off with its improvements.

    • @nihren2406
      @nihren2406 6 місяців тому

      @riptonedwards9175 also I suppose I should clarify that I was referring to Samsung Electronic's S95D, not Samsung Displays demonstration panel which as KG said could be anything. I am well aware that Display and Electronics are two related but separate businesses. But if Display makes a new QD-OLED panel and it is ready in time for a mass market release, Samsung Electronics is likely to use it unless it's cost prohibitive.

      What i. Am trying to explain to you is that samsung display is a seperate company they are cousins samsung electronics his now buying panels from samsung they don't alto buy from samsung display I think the third panels will be used later on this year on the a95m oled tv and 2025 samsung sony will launch 2 master series tv you will see the x95m mini led in March allthough it won't come to market before September you will also see sharp qd oled in a few weeks, flanders scientific his putting the brighter panel in the Pro display arena

    • @volcalstone
      @volcalstone 6 місяців тому +2

      I think if it was the 3rd gen Samsung would've mentioned or marketed it. He did say the D was more punchy but that could be anything as the C might have been tuned differently. I do wonder if they just slapped on the matte screen and called it a day. Who knows but I won't be surprised.

    I have a room with huge window to the side that we’re not going to cover. And we have side lamps we’re not going to turn off. I recently bought a Samsung OLED and seeing all the reflections made me return it the same day. We have a 5 year old LED matte Samsung and it works well in the space. But it is starting to fail so need something new. Samsung is the only company I know with matte screens.

    It doesn't seem to lose much brightness - in stores a lot of these TVs reflect overhead lights because they are higher and that creates an angle with the ceiling lights. I have a feeling the S95D will look better than any TV at a store especially if mounted higher.

    Great video. Very objective and factual. Some enthusiasts seem to be hysterical on this topic.
    When I initially "upgraded" from plasma to OLED I had to rearrange my whole living room. The glossy OLED was totally unwatchable in the afternoon when the sun peeped through whereas my supposedly dim plasma had no problem at all with light
    This is a common sense move by Samsung that will benefit consumers and even some reluctant enthusiasts!

      Good point I’ve seen OLEDs in bad situations and those dark scenes are unwatchable basically you’re just restricted to watching certain movies or shows under these conditions and I’d rather deal with a matte screen than see a reflection of my surroundings.
