I used to work for Dyson, and it’s highly unlikely they would have sold the technology as that’s not really within their culture. It’s more likely that they held a patent on the technology and Shark bought the patent before Dyson were able to renew it. When this happens in tech we are talking about literal seconds, companies will sweep in and buy the rights to other companies patents literally the second it runs out it’s like the worlds most stressful and expensive eBay bidding war.
I remember when I worked there Vax did the same thing with the DC02 vacuum cleaner, which at the point, was about 18 years old and no longer supported. The Dyson directors were mad, and were trying to sue the pants of vax but they didn’t succeed (if I am remembering correctly).

do you remember when you tried the airwrap on your friend with curlier hair and said it wasn’t worth it for her. Maybe can you try this one as well ? it seems a lot curly hair friendly than the airwrap
I love their diffuser, it is the best diffuser I have ever tried. Tips - to style your natural waves/curls, you need to apply right styling products (like curl cream with proteins to moisturize and give structure, then mouse/gel to avoid freeze) and scrunch more on the bottom to make sure to get your curls out more. Plop to allow products Then try to diffuse on the lowest heat setting and low flow. I am sure it will be better if you ever want to try again CGM 👍🏻 It does get easier over time and less time however I agree that you can’t predict the outcome rather than styling with Dyson or Shark barrels.
I think your natural texture is so cute on you but I'm the exact same way with my texture. I definitely have some wave and curl in my hair but I refuse to spend a bunch of time and money perfecting the texture when I can flat iron it or throw it in a bun. Thank you for this video!!
I have them both. They both dry equally. I love that that the shark can twist, and the bristles on their attachments are a bonus. I use them both because the dyson dries my butt long hair faster. If they added the features of the shark they would be perfect. Dyson, add a bigger brush attachment, and bristles in your paddle brush!
Have you noticed any damage to your hair after using this? I've seen some reviews that say that they have experienced damage.
I brought it as soon as I knew it was out! Very happy with it and love playing around and learning how to style my hair. I normally am low mainatnce with my hair but I hate it this way! So I’m hoping to find a blow out look that suits me lol. I also wanted the Dyson one for so long but it was just so so expensive 200£ cheaper is a lot in my opinion haha! Love the video x

I watched another review and she showed that you can clean the filter. I really like that it folds, seems like it would be a lot easier to use versus the dyson.

I have the Dyson Airwrap, the dupe airwrap, ghd straighteners, tongs that twirl when you press a button, babyliss hair brush, a brush that heats up and you brush through your hair, a silk wave hair styler. The list goes on. And the best thing that curls my hair and it last the longest is a long tube and two silk hair scrunchies that a bought from primark for about £3
Your hair looks so good when it’s done! With my airwrap I use a hair mousse for extra hold and I find it works really well for me❤

Loved this! It would be amazing if you could do a video where you use the Dyson on one side and the Shark on the other, clip them so they both last better and then do an update throughout the day to see how different they last :D

Hey Soph! Re curly girl - I did it so half-arsed because I couldn’t be bothered to do the crazy routines. All I did was lots of conditioning and switching my hair towel to an old shirt or a DISNEY hair towel I got at Primark. Now it’s literally a ton less effort than styling was 😂

@@sophdoeslife I really love @manesbymell for curly/wavy hair! She has videos where she does her routine adjusted on people with wavy hair! Also the cause of less curl at the bottom of your hair could just be your hair type, but it could also be due to damage!
@@Ericaocean30 yea, when I started I told my hairdresser I wanted to do it so she cut it to make the bottoms work, but then also over time I just got used to it being kinda messy and wild and I love it! My hair is technically C3 or C2 curls I think
@@sophdoeslife the joy of the curly hair method ( no longer aloud to call it curly girl method unless you do it 100% lol) is that you can do it as minimal or as complicated as you want to. I just low poo, conditioner and one styler. I have wavy/curly hair.
I have very similar hair and the ONLY thing that will coax it into holding a curl for any real length of time is old school setting lotion! I dilute mine to about 50/50 with water coz my hair is STUBBORN but you can dilute it more to avoid any "crunch", pop it into a spray bottle and spritz onto wet or dry hair before styling. Works for overnight heatless curls too 👍
Amen to that, I love the Lottabody setting lotion, it’s just the best product for holding curls all day! 🥰
It’s turned out soooo good!!! 😍 i know it’s like half the price of the air wrap but if I was going to spend THAT much on a hair product anyway I would just save up that extra for the airwrap because I know how good it is! But there’s so so so many heat free and also very cost effective overnight ways to curl hair now (which i would love to see you try out) that I don’t think I could justify the price unless I was a professional hair stylist! ❤️
It would be worth getting the Shark if only to stop money going to James Dyson- he’s quite problematic and has some pretty bigoted political views.

@@Katie-b1q idk, maybe it’s because my hair is naturally wavy anyway. But I hairspray it and then separate the curls. I also wait until they’re cool to touch them. And I always sleep with a silk cap

So, I looked up the Dyson thing and WHOLLY COW! In the US is $600, that's crazy for a hair tool. It is Dyson and their products tend to be expensive anyway. However, the thing about pinning your curls, you have to wait for the bonds to reform in order for the curl to stay better. Pinning them up allows the bonds to reform without gravity pulling the curl out. I really enjoyed your tutorial and I will look into the shark one and see if I can work that into the budget lol

I have a very similar hair type to you but mine is shorter. I want long hair now because yours looks so beautiful ❤️ also I just tried Olaplex for the first time not sure if you have ever tried it but the #6 Bond smoother is so amazing, it has completely gotten rid of frizz and made the bleach damaged bits feel so smooth and silky ❤️

It looks like a great dupe! I definitely want one but I have shorter hair now and the attachments look too big for my hair length. :( I hope they come with smaller attachments for people with shoulder length hair. Probably will pick one up after they release more attachment options later down the road.
My hair is chest length and I bought the shark, I think it will be just fine for your hair, try it out why not, I’m the oppsite I like the shark but wish they had longer attachments for curling barrel

I am so happy I just wear my hair naturally curly and don’t have to do all this. Sometimes I’ll defuse, but generally I take my wet hair, mousse it up and plop it in a tshirt over night while I sleep and then hair is ready to go when I wake up.
SAME! I literally just use an old towel to dry it and scrunch it up a bit and that’s it 😂 it feels so low maintenance in comparison to using any tools now
If you want a good hair brush to brush out curls, I would recommend the one from Give Me Cosmetics, when I curl my hair I use that and it leaves a more wavy affect without them dropping out completely
For me I can't curl my hair or newly washed hair that could be one of the reasons I need to wash my hair 1 to 2 days before I know I'm going to curl it!
Would you be able to do Dyson one side and Shark the other? Just to see if there's a different with shine, texture, frizz?

I got to tell you, I was surprised to see that your shark air wrap had a "Case" and the color is totally different, yours is black and hers is gray, I actually loved your video better, but I couldn't help myself to wonder if it's a different system where you live. As a brand I prefer shark to dyson so got very excited when I saw they’d brought an air styler out
I’m actually not surprised Shark came out with this. They are one of Dyson’s leading competitors. Not cheap, but certainly a lot more affordable than Dyson (and that goes for most of their products).

Regarding the comment about the buttons. I think the placement is an issue for those that are already used to using the dyson.
Do a video of you wearing your natural curls like following GCM for a day 😍you would rock those curls like a queen 🙌🏻
You always want the air blowing in a downward trajectory to prevent frizz.
I recommend holding your hand in this position: make a large U with your hand where your arm and thumb and 4 fingertips all point directly up to the ceiling while the rest of your hand forms a U cup.
Place the crook/corner of the dryer facing you inside the U shaped cup you’ve made in your hand and grip the corner/crook of the dryer this way in your no dominant hand.
This allows excellent control while leaving your dominant hand free to style while you are drying your hair, and it also causes the air to blow in a downward direction.
This technique is also excellent if you are drying your hair with your head flipped upside down.

I have seen so many videos on the shark flex style and when I finally used it I thought I was crazy because NO ONE not a single person has mentioned the crazy mark the curling tool left in my hair until I saw ur video. How do I keep that from happening? Does the dyson do that too? Thank you for being so honest in your reviews!

You don’t have to do much for curly girl method.
I did cgm for a while but my curls -although improved a little- didn’t get to the level where i wanted them to be. So i went back to blowdrying my hair straight. But i kept my cgm hair products, and they are very cheap products. I only use a cgm approved conditioner, and a leave in cream my but shampoo has sulphate. And after a while my curls have gotten so good that i have people asking me if i went to the hair saloon 😂 this happened over 2-3 years. And i didn’t even do plopping, plus kept straightening my hair (but i use revlon one step dryer not a regular straightener)
my curls are now looking really nice and i don’t evet blow dry them most of the time. It saves me a lot of time that i can’t believe i used to straighten my thick long hair every couple days.
Now i can go out without doing anything to my hair 🎉
Soph can you please do this but with the revolution one, I need to know if it’s any good before I get it 😅

Honestly... just felt the need to respond to this comment because I was recently diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression and am taking antidepressants for the first time... it's been a Rollercoaster few weeks on them. Thing about your “natural hair texture” everyone’s is different. I tried during lockdown for about a year to embrace and nurture my natural hair texture. As long as I tried - I would have good days and bad days and overall never really felt as beautiful as I did with straight hair. Embrace whatever hair you love!
you should try the brush to try and see if it could potentially be better then the oval brush. it just a thought since the sides are a little rounded.

Maybe try using a wide tooth comb instead of a brush to go through the curls at the end. I find it doesn't ruin my curls are much. Its more gentle

Im a licensed cosmetologist..I won the dyson and honestly am not a fan!! The reason I’m not a fan is the price bc the only thing I like ab it is the dryer w round brush attachment! I sold mine and replaced it w an Amazon dupe!

Hello! I found this video kinda late LOL. Anyway, for the curling bit, I would suggest to take smaller sections. When you take bigger sections is harder for the curls to be more defined. Also, the smaller you take (from my experience), the more the curls would be closer to your head. It also gives you more volume. hope this helps, but great video!!!
I‘m waiting for Shark to start selling this in Germany. They introduced it to the market in September but didn’t start to sell it yet.
