Now that Shark FlexStyle came out at 1/2 the price of Dyson Airwrap, I’m sure everyone wants to know how do these hair tools stack up against each other. Here I’m going to do exactly that. We are going to compare one to one, Shark vs Dyson. We are going to dry and style half of my hair with FlexStyle and half of my head with Airwrap hair styler. We are going to look at all the options each tools provides, the quality, controls, ergonomics, attachments, and results. This will be more in detail type of comparison video. I hope you enjoy information provided in this episode.

This was the first launch with Shark. They will make things better depending on the customer reviews/ complaints.
The dyson had to do the samething. Because obviously the dyson had more negative complaints when it first launched and they had to change multiple things.
The price difference already makes shark better in my opinion.
You’re right! I’ve been saving for the shark flex style but it’s been out for a while. I might as well just wait for their next launch with improvements
shark only needs to copy dyson again for improvements then it will be perfect 😂 dyson ofc had more negative cm when first launched because it's totally new; it's a totally new idea on how to do hair, it's not a replicating product
Shark is just gonna copy Dyson each time. Next shark flex launch will probably add magnets like Dyson has
They copy because they’re made in China. They’re always reverse engineering and bringing something out
The price of the Shark makes it a winner to me.
Sssaasmmmeeee
Absolutely! I still think it’s ridiculous- but 🙈
Totally agree! I ordered the shark and can't wait for it to get here
@@alexaaday ooooo please reply when you get to try it out! I have short hair, so I'm really not interested in buying it, but I am curious
Plus it's the first addition, they are 100% going to improve as per customer comments on the 2nd!
She said “look at my ear” for how hot the shark was and her ear is red on the other side still😂
I love my Dyson Airwrap(new version) but I think the Shark one is an amazing alternative. I’m sure it will improve with time just like Dyson has. I hope Dyson starts to reconsider their pricing thanks to their competition. It is extremely overpriced.
I have the Dyson Airwrap new version also, but the curls are not holding at all! What product do you use?
@@KristinaMalimon redken texture spray and hair spray. My curls tend to fall after a day anyway though. Texture spray gives a matte feeling and helps the most
@@sydneyallen5092 amazing! Thank you ❤️
Lol They just increased price
any hairspray works I use smaller barrel 20mm @@KristinaMalimon
The best thing about the Shark for me is that 90 degree angle AND the fact that you can attach a diffuser! Absolute dream!
This seems very bias towards the Dyson from the onset. We can literally see how the Dyson isn’t grabbing the hair as well as the Shark and yet the review seems to be stating otherwise?!
I was thinking this exact same thing like girl the dyson isn’t even grabbing the hair to curl who cares that it’s quieter
i noticed that
literally exactly what i was thinking. the only real issue i see is the loudness, and the looseness of the tools. other than that, it almost seems better than the dyson.
she also made the comment of how her ear was red on the right side but said nothing when it came to the dyson, which if you look, IS ALSO RED. she's just really bias.
Tbf I think she's doing it wrong, the way sjes wrapping the hair isn't how dyson recommend, I jave the dyson and it grabs my long thick hair easily
right i would not be shocked if they were secretly sponsored
I liked that you measured the barrels! For some reason everyone tests the Shark 1.25 to the 1.6 Dyson when the 1.2 Dyson is closer in size.
Thank you for comparing them !! I’m a single mom with a 15yr old daughter who styles her hair everyday- the price point alone is a selling factor for the Shark system …. Can’t wait to try it!
Don’t you just appreciate when a UA-camr delivers?! ❤
I absolutely love my Dyson, even if I don’t want the curls, using the other attachments gives me this Salon blowout look. I am not regretting spending the money. But I am glad they made a more affordable version and it seems like Shark is holding up pretty good against the Dyson.
I feel the same way! I purchased the new dyson and I don’t regret it. My hair hair is fairly damaged from being platinum blonde so the higher heat on the Shark isn’t a good match right now. I hope the Shark improves and forces Dyson to reconsider their price.
I just got my Shark and so far I’m very happy with it! I won’t notice the small differences between shark and dyson because I’ve only seen the dyson at my salon and I’m perfectly fine with that 😊
I'm holding out for the shark 2.0, just like Dyson they will listen and make the necessary improvements!
That’s what I’m hoping for too!
I have been waiting for a cheaper option that is actually of quality. I just can't justify the price point on the dyson for myself, personally. Both results look great to me. I think im going to end up buying the shark for myself.
I think you are always partial to Dyson. I have the Shark and love it and it's half the price of the Dyson. I had a Dyson that never worked right. I think the Shark is better!
I find her partial to most high end things .. not that it’s a bad thing , but ..
Could just be that she’s used the Dyson first & probably has more experience with it.
@@Victims_Vox if you watched her current favorites she is in love with $5 eyeliners and brow pencils. Not always high end. And you tend to get what you pay pay, usually, certainly not all the time.
Dyson is better hands down. Shark is a cheaper alternative but has its flaws.
@@Aphrodite01 I disagree! As I said, I had a Dyson that was a piece of crap. I paid $500 for a fancy box. Threw the Dyson in the garbage and now have my Shark in that box. The Dyson never worked right. The Sharp works great and only cost $249!
I like the way you compare these 2 products including the noise, airflow, hair care and results. Also I enjoy the questions coming along while in the process of hairdrying. Thank you guys ❤
The smaller barrel accounts for the tighter curls on the Dyson side (at least partly). The curls looked way better on the shark side.
Hey I'm really really sorry but could u send me a link for the shark one? I don't know where to but it from😭
i’m loving the slightly tighter curls look you got with the dyson… my hair never gets long enough to get that effect 😭😭
Great comparison. I love my Dyson Airwrap, but I’m happy to see a more affordable option in the market. Shark looks good from the price point, but I love the sleekness and ease of use in Dyson and it really makes the hair feel much healthier in the long term. I find it holds the style for days on my hair and my hair grew a lot faster and looks healthier. I prefer Dyson for the quietness alone, as 25% higher dB is a huge difference and it irretrievably damages the ears at such a close range. I hope Shark 2.0 refines its snags, especially the attachments and the loudness.
The review we've all been waiting for!
Shark looks so much better IMO I personally don’t like a tight curl and all that extra fancier stuff is what you pay for the Dyson like the case that is one expensive case if you think about it
I’m so glad I found you again and I appreciate your compassion
Great comparison! I am a Dyson fan but the Shark does look promising!
The Shark is also meant to be an actual blowdryer, from what I read, hence it makes sense that it gets hotter.
I love your videos! Not only are they informative but very entertaining.
Thanks for the comparison! How dry is your hair when you curl it? And do the barrels get really hot? I'm afraid of burning my fingers.
I own the Dyson, yes I had to save up but I am really happy with it. The heat does not damage my hair and I would not like the curls falling out so fast with the shark. I completely understand that some people can’t afford the Dyson.
Your videos are always so helpful! Thank you
Awesome review!! Needed this to make sure I bought the right one for my wife and the shark sounded much better especially for the heat settings. She does have thicker hair and you mentioning that extra heat is better for that, IM SOLD! Again, Awesome review!! Happy holidays! ❤️
I’ve been waiting for this review! 🙌🏼
Looove the video!! Random question, what brand is that plaid blazer you are wearing on your date night? It looks like an awesome fall jacket and I'm looking for one just like it!
I wonder how much being used to the Dyson controls before using thr Shark plays into how you feel about the Shark button placement.
I really enjoyed the comparison with these hair tools. Both sides look lovely 😊!
Hi, thank you for the thorough review!
There’s another tool besides the Shark that looks promising, have you seen/tried the Luxxe Air Pro2? It is also around $300 just like the Shark. Could you do a comparison video between the two??
Loved this information. You answered all the questions I couldn't ask❤
Thanks for taking the time to make the comparison.
You look WONDERFUL in longer hair! (I haven't seen you in a while). Thanks for the video...this saved me from getting a body wave.
you always do the best reviews! thank you!!
I have both. The Shark has more power and the curling barrels on the Shark definitely work better. Curls are way more long lasting. But the oval brush on the Shark is a bit rough on my fine thinning hair. The boar's bristles pull out hair. No one is mentioning that the Dyson has the coanda effect on the smoothing brush as well. Shark only uses the coanda effect on its barrels. The Dyson smoothing brush is magical. So sadly, I keep both plugged in and ready to use and hope one of these companies comes up with a complete solution.
It's not actually that sad when you have both, right? 😊
@@ChantalAngeles_ Oh but it is! I was determined to return one. It's super cumbersome to keep both and not at all practical. I've resolved myself to using the Dyson daily for its gentle handling of my hair regularly and keep the Shark for the curling barrels to use for special occasions. Nothing beats those Shark curling barrels.
Thanks
I think Chantel’s point is that you can afford both. I can barely afford the Shark at £299 let alone the Dyson at £600+.
@@ella_komiya exactly what I meant. Thank you!
Thank you for improving Andre’s voice volume. It’s much better, didn’t have to rewind to hear what he said.
I love my Dyson and I feel it worth every penny. The quality, the built and my life is just so much easier with it. I’m glad the shark is a cheaper alternative and my mom now has one. However I wish the shark or any future brand would come out with a little bit more affordable price. Almost $300 is still very expensive.
Love this video. Especially since I’m frying to decide myself which one to get. The real question is: which one do you prefer? Not that that would sway me one way but I’m curious. (Honestly, I couldn’t afford the Dyson, nor would I want to pay that much for anything!) I think I’ll wait for the next Shark. Bet it’s gonna be amazing!
How long does it take to do your whole head? What is the cord length on both and were there any issues with twisting or binding?
OMGGGG I was waiting this comparison from youuuuuu!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I am so happy for you my dear with the great hair improvement, I followed you loooong time back when you were making how to style thin hair videos, glad your hair is not thin any more... any video on how you managed to get the thick hair 🥰🥰
This is the first video I've ever watched of yours and I just wanted to reach out and thank you for the time and effort put in. It's really helped me in my Shark or Dyson conundrum. I'm thinking Dyson!
Shark came in a case for me. Bought it in the UK. Really nice and portable!
Shark does have a beautiful carry case that zippers closed and has a nice handle plus the Sharks carry case has better storage compartments then the Dyson. I think that Shark will update their hand held dryer as far as the button placements go. Both are very good products, but not everyone can afford a $500 in some cases $600 dryer. So I think the Shark is perfect for someone on a tighter budget. Thank you for the review.
You lift more and put more shoulder strain with the dyson, I noticed. That, in the long run, you will start to feel. That's why you like the pivoting angle of the shark
This was an excellent comparison, thank you!
How does the mechanism to click the attachments in compare? I find my Dyson has little “teeth” that click in which wobble over time
I am loving my Shark, super fun getting to know the tools for my Asian hair. Price was no brainer, had to get it!
I enjoyed your review esp on the technical side measuring loudness and length, and heat flow, etc. I look forward to seeing the Revlon comparisons . I wonder if they plan to do a holiday gift set and include a case with that and maybe extra attachment or the additional attachments may come later but I could definitely see a case coming for the holidays
What is the name of the REVLON version
It’s weird but they include a case in the UK when you purchase it. It’s actually a way more practical case than the one Dyson gives.
@@Carlyw9t2 it’s called the Revlon one step initially when you buy it you only get the big round brush attachement but I’ve heard that hot tools and Revlon are own by the same company and the hot tools round brush is detachable and has different size brushes that you can also use with the Revlon. I’ve tried it and bought a bigger brush head from hot tool and it does work. Also Revlon just came out with a blow out curling iron that I think can also be used with the round brush blow dryer but it’s all sold separately.
@@allisonhernandez3829 yeah I don’t get why the UK one came in a different color and they got a case. Idk maybe they are testing it in the UK and will drop the new color and case here for a holiday special and drop the silver one in the UK for the holidays ???
@@peony2353 yes it could be. One of my biggest gripes with Dyson and, now, Shark is the fact that these tools that are first so expensive, second made to make everything easier are not dual voltage. These are obviously perfect travel devices but if you go to Europe/Asia or vice versa, you can not use it.
There’s no way in the world that I would spend that much more for for the Dyson. Nothing is worth that much more.
I love my shark. I started out with the first Shark.
And to be honest my diffuser on the Shark can’t be beat
I bet shark will release more attachments. It took dyson a little while to do that after their first release, but since shark is obviously trying to dupe, I bet they are already in the works. I definitely will be picking up the shark because even if it has a few flaws, for less than half the price it is a no brainer. Also on other things like vacuums I prefer shark to dyson so I trust the company
For half the price I can definitely live without a case (just another item to figure out where to store it anyway) and it being 25% louder. I’ve had it a couple of weeks and am enjoying it so far!
Hi I bought the Shark last week and it had a case with a sip on it, handy for all the attachments
What i learned is that all curls fall out by the end of the day no matter how much you spend
I’ve recently just broken the best curler I ever had. It was originally and £6 from Argos YEARS ago and kept my hair curled for 2 days! Was gutted when I forgot to turn it off and melted the heat protection cover to it and now they don’t make it anymore. Got a Treseme replacement which is doing pretty well and under £30 though probably much more damaging than these hair dryer tools.
Thank you so much for your time making this video. How often do you use the nourishment you used in this video?
Having difficulty choosing which to purchase. My hair does not allow curl to stay...Although,I have thin hair i do have a good amount of hair. I wish to not damage my hair with so many products. It seems you are gentle with your hair as well
So just a question if I have shark would the long attachment from the dyson fit the shark flex? Just asking lol 😆
Thank you for this video, especially for documenting how your hair looked like at the end of the day! I really want to like the Shark, but IMO it does feels like the Dyson (this model in particular) performs better in terms of heat, overall usability, and results, which are all key points when you plan on using it long-term. Plus the colors and cases are soooo pretty 😩 I think the price difference is justified when you take all of these into account - but the Shark is definitely a very close second!
No I think there was bias going into the video
What products do you recommend to help the curls last longer with my Dyson they fall really fast
I just bought the shark flex style and I love it !!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Sound is measured in decibels, which is on a logarithmic scale. So the shark may be 25% dB louder, but that the actual sound is way louder. An increase by 10 dB means that the sound is 10 times louder. An increase of 20 dB means that the sound is 100 times louder.
I have the Shark dryer, and I love it ! Paid 175 at Costco. I had been contemplating getting the Dyson for quite a while, but so glad I saved over 200.00.
Costco has them? 😮😮
$175 huh? Do you mean the regular shark hair dryer only? Ie not the wand
@@Pammie143shark flex style is on sale $240 at Costco now
Yes! I'm so excited. Honestly for me the $600 price was always to absurd in entertaining the thought of ever ACTUALLY getting i mean over DOUBLE my car payment for a hair dryer!? Nah but the 250 price is much more comparable I feel for this kind of dryer. Obviously dyson was the only one on the market to have this kind of technology so they could charge whatever they want with no competition. But now they have REAL competition. And just like dyson did they will make improvements and uprage it as needed after listening to customer feedback.
And honestly I like shark products over dyson. I bought a dyson vaccume for like 400ish crapped out after 1.5 years with mostly hard floor use my shark is a BEAST AT 230 more suction more durable, longer laster better on carpet and on upholstery. And is going on 2 years like it's brand new.
Can you do a comparison video of the Shark vs the Luxx Air Pro 2? I can't find one anywhere and would love to see the comparison! You're comparison videos are SO helpful!
In other comparison videos they had a case from Shark to 🙆🏽♀️ so there is a case. 😊 thank you for comparing them!
Thank you for this comparison! I’m definitely going to go with the shark. I mean I couldn’t afford the dyson anyway, but as a single mother the cost of the shark is much more manageable and the results and ease of the handle make it a winner for me.
I really want is to know which one is better in keeping the integrity of the hair? I need a hair to style my fine/frizzy hair
Thanks soooo much this helped me pick which to buy!
I’ve just got the shark and mine has come with a beautiful case
Ooohh.. been waiting for this.. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻❤
I was thinking of changing my curler but after I watch your video, I think I am going to stick with mine....it's babylist. The curls can last days on my straight and coarse hair type, and it cost me much less than these two 😊 Thanks for the review.
Great review! In depth but to the point.
I ve got the shark last week, it came out with an amazing box to keep it in with all the attachment as well
The curls are so beautiful! My birthday is in December so I told my husband if you get me ANYTHING please let it be the Shark! Lol. So hopefully it's under my tree or at my birthday dinner lol
Love the comparison 🤗😘
Do you have any info on what the shark weighs as opposed to the Dyson ?😊
thanks so much for this comparison with so much information
I saw another review and the suction to wrap the hair on the barrel was way stronger and stayed within the barrel and not the tip with the Shark.
oh this was so cathartic to watch, thx sis!
Wow! I'm watching 8 hours after you uploaded the video and it already has 21k views. Congrats!
Man. I just got the Shark and the curls last about 2 hours - that's it. Any help/tips?
I actually think the Shark side looks better!
The Shark in the UK comes with all 5 attachments, and also a black fabric case and the colour is black and rose gold… I don’t know why those differences but check it out.
That's bananas!! I like the UK version much better!
Hi, I've watched countless video reviews of this product and they all basically focus on the styling performance compared to the Dyson. I don't have hair where styling it could change my life since I'm of medium height, fine and overall I have little. But precisely for this reason I am looking for a different evaluation which is Dyson's strong point... Is the hair protected on par or is Dyson ahead in this aspect? Thanks 😘
I was leaning towards the Shark because of the price but your curls look amazing with the Dyson.
Oh goodness. I needed these videos.
As a professional hair stylist, I would never purchase an expensive blow dryers. But they would All the last up to a year and 1⁄2. I bought the Dyson about 3 years ago and it is still going strong. I notice the difference on my clients hair. I especially noticed a difference on the ones who purchased it for at home use. It's great that shark came out with something comparable with a better price point but I would like to see the long-term effects and the warranty. Cause of this point I would purchase Dyson over and over again Knowing what it has done For my clients and how long it has lasted. I can't wait to finally purchase the flat iron is well
**I would never purchase an INEXPENSIVE blow dryer.
I would not let me edit On my tablet for some reason.
My hairdresser said she loved the Dyson dryer but returned it because she had to clean the filter multiple times a day and it took up way too much time. Obviously she was using it more than a private individual would have to but do you find that you have the same problem as a stylist using the Dyson dryer?
I agree 100% as someone with curly hair. I never used inexpensive hairdryers and invested in a good quality pro dryer, however Dyson dramatically changed the way my hair looked and behaved. I have both the Supersonic and Airwrap and my hair hasn’t been better. It grows faster and looks very healthy.
@@diamondsgal76 I have curly hair, too! Can you tell me what differences you see with an expensive hair dryer? I have one that cost me about $250 but I’m interested in your experience and what brand(s) you like.
@@jacquelinegatewood5120 Hi Jacqueline, it’s not any expensive hairdryer, but specifically the Dyson Supersonic that made a huge difference. I used the T3, Babyliss, GHD, Devacurl driers before. None of them were as good as the Dyson, which dries much faster, is the quietest machine I’ve ever used, uses the heat and air in such a way that the curls shape up and hold perfectly. I also noticed that my hair feels healthier and grows faster.
This is the comparison we all wanted and needed. I think dyson is still the champ.
Amazing channel and review style. It be perfect I you also used other people with different hair types.
Where can we buy the attachments for Dyson I can’t see anywhere can you plz provide the link plz
Where did you get that spray bottle?
Best Review on both & I've seen practically all reviews out there! Thanks for the demonstration.
Will wall storage selves made for the Dyson fit the Shark Flexstyle? In your opinion. What do you think would work best?
Any tips for postpartum hair regrowth?
Finally a cheaper alternative.
I always wanted to buy the dyson but the price tag 😬
I’m going to hold off and get the Shark 2.0 It seems like a running theme after the initial launch brand’s release a slightly updated version. Hopefully they will listen to feedback and move the buttons
(And make a case) The case does make the Dyson look a bit more luxe. I’m a sucker for aesthetics
@@GreenBananazshark also has a case
Looking forward to watching this one!
Okay, I’ll get right on that!🙄
The Uk launch it comes with a really nice case that is better than the Dyson case imo because it has a handle and zips open in the middle to give two sides.
