I am such a cozy mystery fan. I actually had a Siamese named Koko, and after he passed away, I got a Siamese and named her Yum Yum. Read all the cat who books, as well as Hannah Swensen books. I also like Ellery Adams, Leslie Meiler, Sue Grafton (not so cozy, but amazing), Jenn McKinley, Donna Andrews, and many more. I am addicted to listening to cody mysteries!
Awesome! Thanks so much for watching! I belong to a really fun Cozy Mystery Discord group that started a few months ago. You should join if you haven't already. There is a link in the description of some of my recent videos. There is always a lot of chatter about cozy mysteries there. We also have a Discord group for March Mystery Madness. Stay tuned for a shorter version of MMM in September called Mid-Year Mystery Madness.
The Chocolate Chip Cookie Mystery Murder book is on my TBR this month. It is my first Joanne Fluke book. They do the same thing at my library. The new books are on the shelves you can see first thing when you walk in. They call it "Lucky Day". The limit is 2 on your account. No holds. No renewals. Return in three weeks. I have a lot of the Cat Who books. I got lucky at a library sale. They were letting you fill a bag for a couple of dollars and I grabbed all I could fill in my bag. This was a fun video, Elizabeth. I love to see your excitement over all the books you read.
Hi Debbi, I hope you enjoy Choc. Chip Cookie Murder. It's a fun series. Joanne Fluke also has some thrillers that I haven't read, so I'm interested to see the difference. I guess that makes sense from a library perspective, otherwise they would never have any new books to put out if they always went straight to a patron. I was excited that I was in the right place at the right time. Great find with The Cat Who books. I'm haven't been collecting them, just listening on audio from the library. I do have 2 or 3 on my shelf. Once when I was still heading up our library sales, we had a whole box full of hardcovers from the series and someone bought the whole box. I can't remember how much, maybe $10 or $15 for the box full. They were excited to get them. Thanks for watching and making my day with your comments! Happy reading!
Sorry that I just noticed this comment. I recently finished the series and not only was it sad that the series ended, it ended sadly! I wish that the last book had been better.
Please help me! I have not gotten into themed cozies yet. I have only read Agatha Raisin, Miss Marple, phryne Fisher, etc. So can you recommend any antique based cozies? Along that line. I thought the coffeehouse mysteries would be once place to start as I love coffee shops and coffee. But antiques would be the absolute best. Thanks in advance, Elizabeth.
Yes, I do have books on my shelf from a series called Antique Lover's Mysteries. I haven't tried one of them yet. There are 5 in the series, all published in the early 2000s. I have books 1, 3, & 5. I hope they are good. Also, The Cat Who series has happenings in and around antique shops. As I recall there is a murder in an antique shop in one of the early books. Plus, the main character is always moving around and buying a variety of antiques for his home. I also did a search on Goodreads and came up with a few authors for you to look into: Jane K. Cleland, Vicki Vass, Kathy Morgan, Mary Moody, Albert A. Bell Jr., Robin Hillard, Susan Sleeman, and Kendra Hale. There is also a Guidepost series called Chesapeake Antiques Mysteries, but the information on Goodreads is sketchy. You can probably get more information from the Guidepost website about them. Hope this helps!
Great video! I just started reading the Hannah Swensen Mysteries and I’m loving them so far. I’m on book 2 and I guess I’d better get cracking to catch up lol. I would love to see more Christian cozies!
Glad you are enjoying Hannah Swensen. It is a fun series. I think my favorite character is her mother. I had thought I would do a video about Christian cozy mysteries during March, but the time just got away from me. I will still do it soon (I hope).
Aww, thanks so much! I hope you enjoy them. There are so many great series out there and of course we all have different taste in books, but I hope you can find something from this list that you like.
I’m new to cozy mysteries and I’m wondering if I must begin a series at book one? Most have long holds at my library while later books are available. Thanks so much!
It really depends on the series and how it is structured. Most of the modern day cozies usually start out establishing the tone and introducing the setting and the characters more in the first book. However, they do recap that to an extent in each book. Also if you want to follow the progression of the main character's story line, then going in order is best. However a lot of the older books like Agatha Christie's Poirot or Miss Marple could go in any order. There are plenty of people who read only in order and plenty of people who don't. So it's just a matter of your preference. What series in particular are you looking at reading?
I really want to read the Hannah Swensen Mystery series by Joanne Fluke and the Jamie Quinn Mystery series sounds good too!! Thanks for the recommendations!! Happy Reading and God Bless 😘😘
funny how you mention some books i read way before i got more into cozy mysteries such as the one w/ the cat i may have read 1 or 2 yrs ago and i stared reading Hannah's books because they included baking goods (lol) now i read different kinds!😄📚
See, so we agree that these are good places to start with cozies. There are so many out there now, that it's overwhelming. My new favorites now are The White House Chef mysteries by Julie Hyzy and The Irish Village Mysteries by Carlene O'Connor.
Thanks Gina, I hope to get back to doing more videos about cozy mysteries. I'm just finishing up reading The Cat in the Stacks mysteries and I hope to do a video about that series soon.
I’m two years older than you, and I love your recommendations for “our generation.” I’ve heard so much about the Aunt Dimity series I went to my used book store and picked up four of them! I’d like to change my you tube name to something more bookish in case I decide to start my own channel. Can you tell me how to do that?
Oh, I hope you enjoy Aunt Dimity. It is super cute! I'm not absolutely sure how to change your channel name. I imagine you have to go in to your account settings. Maybe someone else reading this will have the right answer.
@@lizziefayelovesbooks Thanks! I tried googling it and "Fudge Cupcake Murder" came up, but the description didn't seem to fit. I LOVE autumn fiction all year round. Thanks so much for your response!
After skimming through the descriptions, I do think that Fudge Cupcake Murder might be a good bet for a fall setting since the story line is about an election. I can't remember if there have been any books from this series that were specifically set at Halloween or not, but I will try to dig a little deeper and see what I can find out. You might try writing the author and suggesting that Hannah should have a Halloween adventure. There have been lots of Christmas themed books and quite a few set in the summer too.
You went above and beyond! Thanks so much. I am more likely to now read Fudge Cupcake, so thanks for your diligence and kindness! And I will subscribe. Keep up the great work
Nice! Tiffany (the Beachbum Bookworm) and I like to joke that we recommend that series up until about #14 or #15. If you read more after that, you're on your own! LOL!
Are you talking about The Patchwork Mysteries? I love those and just finished book 5! I finally did do that video about Christian Cozy mysteries that I talked about doing in this video. Here is a link. ua-cam.com/video/gOHoWgD5s5k/v-deo.html Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
The only cozy series I ever got into was Diane Mott Davidson’s series about the caterer in Aspen, Colorado. I think I am drawn to series where in joy the setting. I do grow impatient if they aren’t written well. I never finished that series because I got a little bored with the characters after awhile.
I've read the first one in that series and liked it okay. We read it for #book1coziesclub awhile back. A few people thought that the spousal abuse was handled too lightly and I kind of agreed. But I suppose the author didn't want to make that the focus of the story. I'll probably get back to it eventually. I've got a couple of them on my shelf. Yes, I have read several books because of the location. It's really fun to read about places and points of interest that you are familiar with. The late author (Billie Letts) was from my home county in Oklahoma and so there are some references in Where the Heart Is that no one would get unless they knew the area.
I think I may have read later ones in the series. I don't remember any spousal abuse. I think she was happily married in the one I read.. maybe it was a second marriage.
Yes, in the first Goldy book, she talks about her first marriage being abusive, and her ex and his family are characters in that book. Good to know that she eventually gets married, but don't tell me who it is, in case I end up reading more of the series. LOL!
I think I may have watched that one. I'll go back and double check though. Thanks for watching. I hope you are enjoying your picks for #MarchMysteryMadness .
Great video! I would LOVE to hear about some other Christian Cozy Mystery books. And, honestly, even just other Christian Fiction books & authors that you enjoy! :)
I sent you the first two and couldn't find the third one until recently. It's the third one that I'm holding up. I had planned to send it to you unless you've read it from the library already. If you still have those first two, I wouldn't mind reading them again sometime. If you've already passed them on, it's no big deal.
The most popular one that I can think of is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. You've probably read that one. The Joanna Brady series by J. A. Jance has a recurring character who is developmentally disabled. I know there are more, but at this moment I can't think of them. I may add to this comment later as I think of others.
