    I agree whole-heartedly with your comments at the end of your video. The BR800 is an amazing machine. HOWEVER---- this comes with a warning! If you are an inexperienced beginner like I was at first, you have to spend a lot of time learning how to use it!! It really boggled my brain trying to remember and apply all the functions. The learning curve is long and challenging. But if you do put in the time, you will also get a fantastic basic education in the recording process. The engineers at Roland/BOSS who designed the BR800 this are total geniuses. And the main thing is--- it really sounds great!

      Vito Masilotti yes I needed the money and I regret ever getting rid of it now. However, I kind of “outgrew” it as well.
      I was really just using it as an interface with bells and whistles as well as a demo maker.

      I would still recommend it and may even get another myself someday!

    Just watch out for that wheel, it's easy for your finger to slip and mess up the settings on another track or the track effects setting below. For example you could be altering the pan on track 4 and slip to eq or reverb on track 2 because you didn't notice you bumped the arrows.

    I use a Mission Engineering Power 529 to an Aukey 20,000 mAh battery and run my effects off grid out of a briefcase with a Roland Cube street, I never thought of it but I bet you can do the same with this since it's 9V (save on AAs).
    If you got something like a Goal Zero Yeti Solar "generator" and a Goal Zero Boulder 100 briefcase solar panel you could keep changing the Aukey (and the Yeti) and have guitar with full effects for weeks in the woods (assuming the Yeti would charge the Cube or recharge batteries for it)

    Hi Robert, great video..always useful, can you tell me how i switch the rhythm (or drum beat) from intro to verse 1, then to chorus, bridge...etc when developing a song? would I have to stop the recording then go back and edit the existing song every time i change the beat from intro to chorus ? that would be disruptive to the creative flow. Would you kindly create a track from scratch showing how you change the rhythm as the song progresses?

    • @Homestudiosimplifed
      @Homestudiosimplifed  5 років тому +1

      Unfortunately, I do not own this unit anymore. I sort of out grew it. However, in times past, I would simply record all of my song to the first simple beat into my DAW and then when I would go back to create the finished product I’d adjust them on the fly while recording and go back later to patch them up. Hope that makes sense.

    I got the BOSS BR-864 for 30 Years now and it still works, it is mostly the same like the 800!
    The 800 ist better and newer in sound!
    But i wirte my most Songs on that Maschine, there ist No absolute No Option out there, in the whole Market Worldwide, to wirte faster and better a Song Arrangement!
    With a Boss Recorder you have, really all what you need to complete a whole Song!
    What you need is a Guitar, cable and a Mic, thats all!
    OK, Headphones or Speakers you need too.
    When you once inside the Workflow, it IS amazing how fast you can wirte a Song!
    And when you make a good Guitar Setup, you can use this Record for further build your Song inside your PC DAW!
    When you are a Guitarist and you got a Band and want to wirte Songs, there is No better Option for you, that is true!

    Fantastic review! Any chance you’ve got a handle on the available Rhythm Editor for the BR-800? I’m trying to create a viable drum track to replace the endless pattern I used to get the song rolling. The Editor has “read” my song but I can’t get it to play. I’d like to experiment with the different drum options while listening to the song. Any input would be great, thanks again!

      Thanks for the kind words!
      As for the Rythm Editor... I used it for awhile and eventually switched to Addictive Drums in my DAW. It’s just not intuitive enough.
      One work around I used was to preselected my patches and then lay down my tracks to the “endless pattern”, go back and record the drums into my DAW and change the patterns in real time to the tracks.

      You have three options that will work with this unit. Option #1 You can set it to record 4 simultaneous tracks, 3 with dynamic mics and 1 condenser, Option#2 you can use the built in condenser mics, or option #3 You could record each part of the performance separately and mix it all on the unit.

    • @Homestudiosimplifed
      @Homestudiosimplifed  8 років тому

      +xxBONGHUNTER420xx Any DAW will work as it is an Audio Interface. I started using Sonar when I got this 4 years ago and I have never looked back! The reason why it may be saying that your OS is not compatible is due to the recent revamp of Sonar (amazing!). As far as the Loop Phrases, I am not aware that the BR-800 has any "built in". You can loop record either manually (pressing the buttons with your finger) or with a foot pedal. This is how I have achieved loops. Hope this helps.

I bought the br800 to use as audio interface and control surface with daw (cakewalk by Bandlab) and it is totally fine. i'd like to use the br800 for small demo at home as stand alone recorder (the dp24sd is in my studio in garage with some outboard gear). I'm surprised that Br800 doesn't have a "bounce" mode, at least for what i've found in the manual. Alright, and if I plug my guitar in my pedalboard setup and then to the unit, will it have latency?
      I'm asking these for you because you're the BR-800 master, and I'm about to buy one unit.
      Actually I'm thinking in Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 interface. It is a distinct product of course, but the sample rate, converter, preamp, latency is much better... That's my dilemma. The BR is a portable recorder with an amazing features, while Scarlett is cool too, but it will depend of a computer...

    • @Homestudiosimplifed
      @Homestudiosimplifed  7 років тому +2

      Bill Harder I know man, I went through the same thing. No latency if you go through your pedalboard to the unit. The Focusrite 6i6 is what I own now and use, but I don't travel a lot and take gear with me. I also have upgraded my Sonar version that came with the BR-800 to Platinum so it has the drums I needed. The other main reason I used the BR-800 was for the guitar to bass emulator. I now own a bass guitar. So, really it's based off of what you really need. Both are great options but the needs will ultimately determine your decision. If you do decided to buy one or the other use my affiliate link please. It will cost you no extra, and I will get a small kickback for your purchase.

I use a mix instead. I know that it is not a complete purity of sound. I want to ask if I can use this boss br 800 as a recording studio that I will connect from my PC. and also can i link the sounds from boss br 800 to my recording program adobe audition. I'm looking for something that will have a clean sound for me and also to be able to use some effects if the boss br 800 offers it.

    Still trying to figure out what the difference between the DR-800 and the DR-80 is. I'd say the DR-800 is more versatile and accessible for recording. It also has more input options (4 x microphone, foot switch etc.). On the other hand the DR-80 has an eBand mode for playing along (also change pitch, speed, etc.) which the DR-800 lacks. Are the guitar effects the same on both devices btw.?

    • @Homestudiosimplifed
      @Homestudiosimplifed  6 років тому

      codica666 it does have a phrase trainer so you can learn solos and what not. I am not certain as to whether the pedals have similar effects however.

    • @codica666
      @codica666 6 років тому

      Another detail worth considering: the BR-800 comes with a power adapter (not included with the BR-80). Obviously much of the ease of use of the BR-800 comes from having real sliders. Still not sure if the effects are the same on both devices. I really love the auto-wah/funk effect you showed on your unit. Would be too bad not having that on the BR-80. Also I wonder if my small amp (Roland cube) is "good enough" to plug the BR-800 into and play around a bit. Great video btw. ;)

    • @Homestudiosimplifed

      James McQuillan are you meaning using the unit exclusively or are you using it as a complimentary device with your PC?

    • @dennisloobman
      @dennisloobman 3 роки тому

      You can’t overdub a pre recorded track, but I think you mean how do you 'bounce down' when you’re using the machine without a DAW, and I’m having the same problems myself. Normally it’s a simple process.
      You’d start by recording four tracks (1-4), then you’d mix them down onto tracks 5-6 in order to free up tracks 1-4. Then you’d switch 1-4 to empty virtual tracks, and ‘overdub’ another four tracks, which you’d then mix onto 7-8.
      Finally you’d switch tracks 1-4 to the next free virtual tracks and ‘overdub’ them again, meaning you’d potentially end up with twelve tracks for your final mixdown.
      Now I don’t want to carry a computer around with me and this is supposed to be a 'stand alone' machine anyway, but how DO you bounce tracks?
      Without bounce down the BR800 becomes pointless, yet I haven’t been able to find any information on it anywhere. There’s some info in the manual about ‘copying’ from one track to another, but that’s not the same as bouncing.
      I can’t believe Boss would have left out such a simple and essential process on a machine of this nature, it’s dead easy to do on my mates BR600 and I thought the 800 was supposed to be an ‘upgrade’.
      If anyone has any info on this it would be greatly appreciated.
      Fanx HSS for such a comprehensive video, it was otherwise very informative.

      Kristóf there may be a setting within the BR-800 to split the signal. I can’t remember anymore.
      The other option is to record through an amp. Mic the amp for your “dry” signal, and use the out of the amp into the BR-800.
      Or use an interface between the two and split the signal that way.
      One other option is to reamp it
