There is an upgrade to that non-solution: Just hock a lanyard onto that water bottle, and fix it onto the steering wheel. Adjust the bottle water quantity, in order to (a) keep the system engaged, and (b) not exert too much force on the steering wheel, in a way it changes direction. This might take some trial-and-error. DO NOT DO THIS! This is just an hypothesis. DO NOT EXECUTE THIS! This way it makes it really simple to engage and disengage the water bottle. There are no sensors on the steering wheel, as it would lead to a significant higher cost on the steering wheel, which would in turn increase the number of thefts of such item. Such approach works because the sensor is in the steering wheel hub, and that sensor need to sense that there is some resistance on the other end (you or the bottle), otherwise it will disengage the system.
I did this in my 2022 Camry. I stuck a Pepsi bottle on the wheel and drove to Florida like this. 18 hrs straight driving. Of course had to stop to go to the bathroom, eat, and fuel.
I got a new 2023 1500 Limited Longhorn Jan 2nd, 23. Every single time I try this junk, it takes a turn. Mild, but you're right, we ought to get full refunds for this option. It's dangerous to deadly. There may be sensors there, but they ain't working!!! To be right, I just push that assist button, it should work? I get the lane showing in the heads up, I ass u me its working. We start drifting left or right, I feel the feed back wanting to get back in my lane. It's worthless. And something else, what company is the gps data?! That junk is at least 23 years old. Connecting through Android and S23 is like moving into a new civilization! Good video, thanks. Ya point out light heartily that the assist is junk.
Just thinking……maybe two Nerf style base ball on each side. That water bottle, sorry lemonade bottle is a little heavy. Throwing it off balance just by a red hair…..a tad, a bit, a tidy, you get the idea….Right? But “DONT TRY THIS EVER”😜
Boys will be boys and men will be men... It sure is a piece of advice we should never follow... Long drives sure does bring up some really interesting ideas though 😜. Stay safe Bob!
Some systems are more aggressive than others, though. With the most aggressive setting on some models, it will legitimately steer you around turns and keep you in the lane with only a couple of fingers on it. Others, like this Dodge, are very weak and assume you are driving the vehicle/making small adjustments. So test as YMMV. OK.. a LOT. I've only seen two that actually are close to self-driving levels of intervention.
I tried out a mazda lane keep assist and after bouncing around the lane for a while it alarmed, flashed the instruments and told me a i needed a snooze off the road.
Eureka! Not that the two of you are foolhardy like I am but I have investigated and researched and did the hard work; I now know how to bypass the time restrictions, at least for my Rav4, on Lane keeping (tracing). As you may know, if you take you hands off of the steering wheel for longer than about six seconds, the bitch in the box warns you to put your hands back onto the steering wheel and TURNS OFF lane tracing. Solution? Buy a small plastic bottle of Pom juice (the one that looks like a two ball snow man), drink the juice and then fill the bottle up with tap water. Place the bottle in the three o'clock position of your steering wheel, with the "waist" of the bottle resting on the cross bar. Test it out. It works for my Rav4, from the PA border all the way to I271. Loom mom, no hands. just monitored the lane tracing and traffic to stay safe. BE CAREFULL!!! My lane tracing looses concentration when white lines are weak or turn to black from tar. Only works with GOOD roads. Kinga will have a "shit" if I tried it with her for any length of time.
Thanks Bob, Now all those Women who put their makeup on while driving down a busy road, will have another trick up their sleeve, to Scare me to death ! lol No, Really Ladies, Stop doing this !!!
Do this with lane assist is the way how you die! Sooner or later! If you really dont want to drive, buy mercedes with Active Steering Assist. It can keep the line all the time without killng yourself.
I did this for a camry rental, it literally drove 90% of my 10hr road trip it was great.
“DONT EVER DO THIS” 😆😂🤣😅👍✔️
Like this, a list of WiFi:

The German police would love something like that, at 200 km/h +
When your bored on a long drive and start looking for ways to mess with your vehicle's computer LOL
Thank you sir. I’ll NEVER do this.
Have to admit your good sense of humor!
It's like a parent telling the kids not to smoke while the dad is puffing away. Great hack!! I'm definitely doing this while smoking a cigarette😂
Hey my sweetheart Bob ‼️‼️🤣🤣🤣😄😄😃Thank you for telling us how “not” to trick the system🤣🤣🤣🤣😄😀😃YOU ARE HILARIOUS 😇😇😇😇😇
Bob That lemonade is delicious… thanks for turning me onto it.
If I didn't understand your sense of humor I probably would've shit myself a little at the end of this video🤣
Did this exact thing in my 2018 Accord on a road trip between CA and AZ 😄

LOL, I love your humor Bob, damn keep the videos coming. LOLOLOL
Case study for "never ever EVER trust new tech to work as advertised!" Words of wizdumb from a guy who makes a living in tech.
I feel more safe driving with my knee’s then i do with that lane assist nonsense
Bob you crack me up!😂
Is lane assist or lane centering. I know the older models just came with lane assist and not lane centering
Trying to eat a sandwich brought me here. 😂

Knight rider!!! It steering itself. Wow
My old Kia Telluride did this when I accidentally put my water bottle in the steering wheel but my new one doesn't.
Regards from Athens Greece...

Hey, sometimes a man just needs to eat a sandwich! Safety third 😂
If you do this you absolutely cannot take your eyes off the road

Nice video, greting the Nederlands
On the plus side if that big truck falls off the road at 90mph whatever you hit it'll punch a hole through it and come out the other side......😮
I see you baby 👹
What is that round thing on your left dash board
i don't have lane assist, i just use my knees when a want a sarnie.
Highly illegal… I remember people doing this with their Teslas and then falling asleep and crashing.
Video Bob version of Desert Bus

Don't ever do this, but here's how you do it.
LOL!
Don't do this but you did it anyway. Lol!😂
Only for education purposes 😂
Thanks Bob, Now all those Women who put their makeup on while driving down a busy road, will have another trick up their sleeve, to Scare me to death ! lol No, Really Ladies, Stop doing this !!!
I did it with my cell phone on my car, not that I should.
