Great picture of a wonderful experience--fun narrative, with just the right amount of snark. I've sailed on her twice so far and in my next life I'm going to live aboard. ;-)

Thank you Burt. I did not know that they had dancing at afternoon tea. You are the first person from N.America that I have heard pronounce Sauna correctly.

Sorry Burt. The skipper of the QM2 is in fact not a "Commander" . But, a "Commodore" which is the next rank above a "Captain". He may be referred to as "the commander" of the ship but, that is not his rank. In most navies of the world the commissioned officer ranks go something like this from lost to highest. Ensign, lieutenant junior grade, lieutenant, lieutenant commander, commander, captain, commodore(not used much in military navies any more), rear admiral, vice admiral and admiral(or full admiral). Although civilian shipping companies don't have admirals.

She IS the only true ocean liner.

OK. Later in the video you got his rank correct. But earlier you called him a "commander"

The interior decor on the Queen Mary 2 looks a lot like the design of Stalinist Marxist Communism of the 1930s.

If the Queen Mary 2 was a woman she’d be both powerful and lovely ...and know it.

I’ve purchased some of your CDs which are always interesting and leave me with a desire to travel. It’s a happy discovery to find your UA-cam channel.

A bit editorial there Burt. Funny to make disparaging commentary on the rich and powerful while sailing on a luxury ship and hosting a SIX YEAR OLD's birthday party in the most expensive restaurant on it...

Geeeze! 48 seconds into a crappy UA-cam video and I’m on the fourth “sponsored by” mention. Sorry love, I didn’t come here to see second rate adverts! Just second rate film. Thumbs down from me, over half a minute of sponsorship is way too long. It’s ok for a ‘real’ tv show, but not for some half arsed youtube. 🥱🥱🥱

She wasn't built BY Cunard she was built FOR Cunard. My cousin was her Second Officer for years. From what I heard the pay was pretty ordinary, same for being on cruise ships but a wonderful experience. He left for a job on an LNG tanker because the pay was a lot better, now works as master of a ocean going tug.

I love, Tea Time and use to arrive twenty minutes early to be able to sit at a table in the musicians. Thank you, 2020 going on a 14 day New England to Canada cruise.

Good video. You missed out on the fact that when James Bond ask for his martini to be shaken it is because he drinking a Vodka Martini's (Vodka and Vermouth).

    • @HooDatDonDar
      @HooDatDonDar 3 роки тому +1

In Bond’s time, gin was stronger, about 47%. You needed to shake to get the proper dilution. Stirring will also do that, if you do it for a while, but most bartenders will not bother. If you order it shaken, that will get the needed dilution.
Now you find 38% gins, disgraceful. If you shake those, you will get too much water. So, check before you order.

We don’t all wear our trousers/pants hanging by our knees, nor do we all eat fast food. Class _never_ goes out of style! The Queen Mary 2 is beautiful.

    • @HooDatDonDar

A lot of the things that happened in the 20th Century would have been unthinkable in the 19th. A point in its favor.
I like the 21st century so far, but 19th is a good runner up. Any faults you find in it pale in comparison to its successor.

@@vyacheslavvoylokov2503 It is a cruise ship , it does cruises and a very basic ship at that i have had to travel on it 3 times.I wish The Norwegian Escape would cross over , on Trans Atlantic crossings on a regular basis, i have been on it , so much fun and the food is way better, than The QM2.

    • @myopiniongoodyouropinionbad

@@Jay-vr9ir The QM2 was purpose built as an ocean liner for the rough waters of the North Atlantic. It's structurally different than a cruise ship. The life boats are higher up so they dont get battered by waves. It can maintain it's cruising speed in 20ft seas(And it can get *WAAAAAAY* worse than 20ft waves). It is faster than any cruise ship with a cruising speed of 28 knots and I think max speed of 33 knots. The hull is nearly twice as thick as a regular cruise ship. Because of these differences it can't hold quite as much of the luxury novelties as the Norwegian Escape. Never been on either ship so I'll take your word for it on the food/fun.
Ocean liners were the only way to cross the Atlantic before Planes and Jets. Back then ships like Olympic, Aquitania, Normandie and the original Queen Mary (and the Titanic if she didn't sink) were much smaller than the cruise ships of today because Speed was more important then comfort. Depending on the ship they could cross anywhere between 3ish to 7 days.

    • @JulieWallis1963

Somebody is too thick to know the difference between a cruise ship and an ocean liner. Too thick, and too stubborn to admit when they are wrong! 🤦‍♀️😂
