    I took the original Queen Mary from Southampton arriving in Halifax, Canada in August 1946. It was being used to send the war brides and children of Canadian soldiers who fought in WW2. Obviously I do not remember a thing about the voyage as I was 1 1/2 years old. I have been on the original QM now moored in Long Beach, CA. Will have to make a point of taking the QM2 before it is too late.

    Well done. Beautifully filmed. Lovely slow panning when required. Showed the ship wonderfully. I took the ship from Cape Town to Adelaide for 21 nights in 2011 before the renovations. I preferred the original carpets in the Grand Lobby. I loved the Promenade Deck walking several laps every day from sunrise to sunset and in the evenings. Original teak deck makes all the difference. Not many big cruise ships have that anymore.

For a 10 year old being able to to take a cruise (er i mean voyage) just exploring this great ship everyday was absolutely incredible. When we would sail into towns entire populations would crowd the waterways just to see her. There is an energy to this ship that simply cannot be captured on film or photo. Nice work here

    To think Cunard's first ocean liner RMS Britannia could fit in the Britannia Restaurant minus her masts. QM2 always amazes me with her scale even after 5 voyages on her over the years and seeing her in Southampton over the years since 2004. She is my second favourite ship after QE2 from travelling on both. Excellent video as usual!

    • @visitwithus
      @visitwithus  6 років тому +1

    • @tonyhinojosa7710
      @tonyhinojosa7710 5 років тому

      Visit With Us, ships won't be able to get much bigger because ports won't be able to accommodate them. Some of these behemoth liners already struggle to fit in certain ports. QM2, for example, squeezes under the Verrazano bridge in New York with barely two meters to spare. Any taller she wouldn't fit at all and would have to have a special dock built for her just outside the bridge.

    On my bucket list. Sad to say but one day this type of elegant cruising will be obsolete. The generation of our children want what other cruise ships have to offer. Like Norwegian, MSC , RCL , Even Princess which is our go to cruise line the last ten years. We are in our mid sixties now. However I may be wrong I hope it’s around for a long time.😎

    When you have the plan of the QM2 on cunard.com, it is easier to follow this.
    The way to travel on the Queen Mary 2 is to take the Balmoral duplex and Windsor suite together, opening the connecting doors to form one large residence. The nearest penthouse should also be taken. All three of these doors are conveniently near each other in the corridor (Sandringham/Buckingham will also work, if you do not mind a mirror image of your regular digs).
    The ground floor of Balmoral has an extension with a desk that will do for an office. A slightly longer table can be put in the main place for private dining, poker, baccarat, or anything like that. There are enough sofas and armchairs about the place for visitors. A kitchen is not needed as the room service is excellent, the private bar is adequate, however the company must see about putting in a lift to supplement the stairs.
    The upstairs of Balmoral will be the main bedroom. This has a spacious bath and shower room, and walk in closet with room for several changes of formal wear, suiting for less formal occasions, and informal gear for excursions ashore and visits to other areas of the ship.
    The downstairs of Windsor is attached to the downstairs of Balmoral by a connecting door. This gives several ways to use the space. As it is easy to access from Balmoral, it can be turned into a regular den by instructing the management to add a few capacious overstuffed leather armchairs and side tables. If you wish to restrict smoking in the residence, it can also be made into a smoking room. Or if you wish a really private office/work/conference space, you can use the desk in here. Any or all of these. As always, your wishes will prevail.
    The upstairs of Windsor is a bedroom. This has a connecting door with your main bedroom, the upstairs bedroom in Balmoral. This makes the Windsor one handy for a changing-room. The bulk of the wardrobe can be kept in here, making it easy for the valet, or lady’s maid, to lay out your things as previously instructed. They can enter and leave by the Windsor main door downstairs (keep this in mind when planning to use the space as per the previous paragraph), no need for the Balmoral residents to see them at all if they are not needed. Used clothes and linen can be thrown into this room on the bed as well, so as to keep Balmoral tidy.
    The penthouse (9.076 or 9.067, depending on the configuration you have chosen) will be the servant’s quarters. This is also a useful place to store empty luggage for the trip. If you travel with both a valet and a lady’s maid, it may be necessary to book the next room as well (9.074 or 9.065) so as to avoid scandal. However, telling the agency to book a husband-and-wife team will avoid this extra expense.
    I hope this helps you plan a pleasant crossing, or cruise.

    • @visitwithus
      @visitwithus  3 роки тому

      Well, that was such a detailed recommendation, I shall print it out on a lamb skin scroll and hand it to my chief of staff to act upon for when we're next on QM2. I think I might just go one better and book the whole deck from front to back. That way my entourage will all have their own rooms. :D

    • @hoodatdondar2664
      @hoodatdondar2664 3 роки тому

      I think you are wise. Early planning does it, every time.
      P.S. There is a ‘hidden’ door in the upper part of Windsor; easy enough to see, but does not appear on the deck plan. Same for Balmoral. They both go out to the tenth level, and this is the connection between the two suite bedrooms at the upper level. The description above did not make this clear. The UA-cam video “Queen Mary 2 Balmoral Windsor Penthouses” gives a detailed tour of the whole layout.

    • @hoodatdondar2664

    I hope QM2 is treated with far more respect than her predecessor who sits dying a slow rotting death, vandalized and gutted for the sake of "gift shops" and "museums" that could easily have been placed on the dock next to her.
    I am pleased to see some styling ques taken from the original QM like those carved stone lamps, the light fixtures and murals and the like. Theater and gambling holds no interest of mine, however there seems to be more to this lady. Class. She is an elegant vessel, unlike the gaudy, commercialized and themed cruise ships which are barely more than floating hotel/shopping mall/casino/amusement parks full of drunks, that barely leave their own "back yards"
    I hope to one day take a voyage aboard this magnificent ship. I fear airplanes and have never been on one since gravity is kind of a problem for vehicles that fly, and then break down in the air.. Nope! A boat breaks down and you float for a bit. Another boat comes or they fix the one you're on. Worst case scenario, you bob about on a lifeboat for a few hours. A plane breaks down and your only option is a flaming SPLAT!!
    So yeah, I do wish to see France, Ireland, Scotland and the UK etc. So my only options are to wait until they build the Bering Strait Bridge, and drive across Siberia, or take QM2. Guess which one is actually feasible...
    Hopefully, someday, I shall bear witness to the last of the great ocean liners. Queen Mary II.

      Hi Xavier. Thanks for watching! Well, QM2 was launched in 2003, meaning she’ll be 20 in 2023. An ocean liner like her is designed to have a life of 40 years, so she’ll only be half way through her service in 2023. I’d say you’ve got plenty of time to plan that trip! 👍😀

    One of our staff was on the Cunard QMII in March and felt it was very tired and that the staff fell way short of even basic expectations. He had a mental health issue during a 14 day trip, whilst travelling as a solo traveller. He had booked the cruise to help him feel better following the loss of his Mum. He wanted to disembark in Barbados and cut the cruise short due to loneliness, with the 'solo traveller' promises being woefully neglected... but the undertrained staff treated him with contempt and dismissed his concerns. Cunard showed ZERO concern or support and they not only told him that he couldn't get off the ship but also didn't once ask him "why" he wanted to leave. They just didn't care. After many emails and formal complaints on board, Cunard simply brushed it off. Our colleague is coping better now and has written to the tv programme 'Watchdog'. Disgusted!
