"When Maya's out, she's moving slowly and checking everything out." Maya: "I know these delicious ball pythons are around here somewhere. I can smell it."
Honestly, I think you’re doing a great think spreading this idea out. I go to a fairly respected reptile vet in Texas and he advocates for free roaming; simply because of how good the exercise and enrichment is for them. Apparently most non-mammalian pets get osteoporosis in their later years because of the lack of exercise.
Free-roaming a reptile certainly is a different experience than just having a cat or dog in the house! It was super heartwarming to see my beardie explore the big, open space of my apartment after he'd spent the first year of his life before I adopted him in a 40 gal. I thought I'd been super thorough at lizard-proofing the whole area, but.. turned out there was a small opening on the UNDERSIDE of the lip of the kitchen cabinets, just at the corner they created. I remember seeing him look up, and then climb up into it before I could even move 😱 Scared the life out of me! Neither of the cabinets opened into that area, and I was terrified it might just drop off into the crawl space or something..! All I could do was just stick my hand in the hole and grab him as soon as I could feel him. Poor baby was pretty scared too, in that pitch darkness, because that was the only time he ever bit me, but I was in Mom Mode and I've got more scars from cats than I can count, so I managed to pull him out safely anyway. Didn't even break the skin, but that jaw strength is no joke! Anyway, moral of the story is to look EVERYWHERE when checking for places that snakes could get into, because I HAD checked the underside of the counter cabinets, but I just hadn't looked close enough at that corner specifically. For my own sanity, I don't plan on letting my ball python free roam outside of my bedroom until they're at least mostly full-grown, and the smaller snakes I'd like to have someday probably will only be allowed in a playpen, unless I can manage to get uncharacteristically organized 😅
My corn snake went under the lip of the cabinets at too and I literally had to rip them apart to get him out 😂 The same dude also went under the floorboards so I also ripped those up. I'm just thankful he's safe and I could fix everything afterwards lol
⭐️LOVELY THAT YOU COVER SNAKE ENRICHMENT! Also, I catch my clumsy snakes before they fall sometimes even placing something soft under whatever they are climbing so I don’t “hover”around. My apt is not easily snake proofed, so I use a pop up cat tent that’s made of mesh so they can safely stretch and explore. ( I add cardboard boxes and tunnels inside) My Brazilian Rainbow boa has tested the perimeter seams by pushing her snoot strongly along the perimeter and there haven’t been any worries of them breaking or even looking weak. I don’t have to worry that a snake may go missing if I turn my back or get into any harm - also, I can put a larger water container in the tent for my boa that likes swimming and I’ll cover the tent partially with a tapestry so she feels secure. It’s one of the best purchases I’ve made for my snakes- it pops open with one hand, I can rinse it off if needed and it easily folds flat. Because I don’t have to stop everything just to watch that they aren’t doing something that may harm them ( under the refrigerator- or climbing up the aquarium lights electric cord for example) then I will almost always let them out of their tanks if they look like they are wanting to. I’ve had a very shy boa that really seemed to come out of her shell after using the tent - I wish that new snake owners all had a mini course about how much care is involved or a 24 hour cooling off period before you take home an animal to make sure you are ready. After all, snakes live long lives & the ones that aren’t wanted and need rehoming don’t always meet a good end. The purchase of the cat play tent (snake play pen) can enrich an animal that may otherwise only spend time in a tank or only being handled. Sorry for this comment being so long. I wish more snake channels covered animal enrichment like this one does. You are doing good works and showing that these animals need mental stimulation ⭐️ ps - I found my cat tent on eBay but you can find them on Amazon as well. Shop around for prices, I waited for a sale. If I’d seen a link on a channel like this, I would of bought it that way. Just saying 🐍🙂
@victoriajones9964 Wow, what a wonderful idea! I’m currently editing my own video on Enrichment for Snakes, and I wish I had read your comment before I shot the episode! I’ve long been trying to figure out a good way to let my snakes roam more freely, but my house is not conducive to it without me watching them like a hawk. I want the link to this tent!!
Man, Future Bob has such a swell hat. That is the sort of hat that just belongs on the top of a face with a flowing beard. I can't overstate how much he rocks that hat!
My 18 month old ball python goes nuts to be let out ! It's comical seeing where in the room he'll appear next. Always snake proof your room, these are master escape artists and could get into mischief on a blank slate.
I got to your channel from one of your response videos and the amount of care and compassion you have for your snakes is heartwarming. Obviously most snake owners care about them but your positivity outweighs the negative comments about snakes a hundred times
I used to sleep with my Mojave BP, it was back in my late teens when I was struggling with mental illness and suicide attempts. He'd sleep under my blankets for hours and when I'd wake up he'd either be in my laundry or in my closet. He literally helped me stay alive. In my new house now, he's 8 yrs old and I watch him play now and then. For some reason he's obsessed with the TV stand.
I stole your play pen idea when Marie and Darwin were small noodles. Darwin is still very content with the play pen but Marie, who is a MUCH more confident snake, wants the whole room. I’ve successfully snake proofed it so I can go in and out when necessary but I still supervise her because she’s so bold. She will investigate areas that I don’t think she can get to. Lol! When she puts her mind to it, she can get almost anywhere. She also will hang out with me in the living room while I watch TV. Eventually she’ll end up behind her favorite pillow. A “Bob snake” is the best snake, in my opinion!! 🐍❤️🐍
Okay first: I am VERY impressed at how perfectly you framed the recommended video at the end of this video!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😎 I wish I worked from home so I could free roam my snakes all day. But I always enjoy seeing your snakes adventure around. I love that Maya has been free roaming lately, and I love how attentive she is!!
@GreenRoomPythons I bet it doesn't take her long. She's super smart and she'll probably recognize super quickly that I'm not a typical installation in her world.
I love this. I've been free roaming my boa and pythons on jungle gyms like that in the background for years, and people think I'm crazy. I love what it does for their mental stimulation and engagement. One thing: Where did you find those wooden rings? My boys need a set! You should do a whole video on jungle gym design... What to include, not include, creative ideas, etc.
That's a good idea for a video. Those rings came from some cheap home design store. I don't remember which one but I always look for stuff in those stores that snakes might use
Been binge watching so many of your videos recently. I’ve never owned a snake but currently preparing myself to set up for one. This channel has been so helpful in easing any worries and answering questions I’ve had about owning a snake
I love this ❤- I can’t stand anything being kept in a cage full-time. My parakeets are never locked in their cage or get wings clipped, they have their own safe room to fly, and now I feel guilty that their room is not big enough. Love your channel and free roaming snakes 🐍
Awesome video, definitely going to fix up a playpen for my snakes - they're all too small yet for full freedom, despite what the hognose will tell you. 😅
I’m very far in my life from a point where i can keep a pet snake at all, much less free roam it, but the potential for doing this at some point in the future is soooo exciting to me, i really love your free roaming videos
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your videos. Sage the Snek is 3 days from feeding and 4.5 away from ending new home quarantine, and I have been watching as many vids as I can to ensure Sage is a happy, healthly python!!
I just recently found your videos about 2 weeks ago or so. I have been doing so much research for about 2 years now and watching many videos on ball pythons. Your information on the topic of ball pythons in general is very professional and honestly very accurate. I'm about to get my first ball python soon (maybe a couple of weeks or so) and I will definitely be looking at your videos for help. I appreciate you for making these videos for snake nerds to learn new things. Also, your snakes are extremely fascinating and adorable ❤ Keep up the good work! :D
As a *TOTAL NERD* - yes, come join the Horde! Play D&D with us! Help me realize my dream of having a D&D game every night of the week! And, you know, there's really cool people and snake stuff.
I think I said this on a short, but people make the same comments about dog videos. Some people just have nothing better to do than to be negative about everything. I know that a snake wouldn't be the right pet for me, but this is still cool to see.
Wonderful video ... really well done. Don't let Kent hear that bit @15:54 about Black-Headed Pythons "eating just about anything!" He might faint! :-) And I'd like to hear about your D&D adventures (I play in about 7 PbP games on Myth Weavers).
I let my ball python out every so often, but I supervise. Keeping her out of wires is my main concern usually, otherwise she likes the small area to explore. I adopted her about a month ago, she's 3 years old, and from a teen they no longer had interest in caring for her. her cage hadn't been cleaned in quite some time, and I'm not sure how often she was allowed out. She handles well, but doesn't seem to like hands very much. When I place my hand in front of her, or near her when she's in her cage or coming out, she moves back. She will tongue flick, but usually moves out of the way like its something unpleasant. It seems like fear to me, and that's he last thing I want her to feel. Is there any way I can get her more comfortable with my scent and presence? I know to go slow with BPs, so I'm interested to hear what your thoughts are on how to approach this. Thanks.
She doesn't know its a hand - it's just something with a heat signature and shes recoiling because it could be a predator. I have some videos on socialization that will help, but it's best to keep your hand at a distance and let her approach your hand to investigate.
I love so much about this video. I really appreciate your attention and care, and your dedication to your animals’ welfare. Snake Therapy Gold Star to you, sir! Also, I need to figure out my own version of the “Future Bob” situation- it’s genius. So many times I think of something else while I’m editing but feel weird about doing another take in another outfit days later… inspired! We spoke for a brief second at Clint’s last month but were never formally introduced and I’m bummed about that now! Loving your channel. ❤
@@GreenRoomPythons yes please! Just starting out with my channel and have much to learn, and I’m loving connecting with those I respect in the community in the process!
thank you this is the best way to remind new viewers to like and sub...seeing your snakes crawl over those wonderfully built structures is awesomsaucy 🎉
I want to get a snake and maybe some kind of gecko/ pancake in the future. First I learned that for example keeping fish isn't that great and easy actually, and the same people obviously also talked about keeping wild animals. My thought was: even if their enclosure is great, you can't make it too big or else they will feel unsafe. Creating a complete room for them sounds like a crazy quest, but this would definetly erase my worries.
But more to the point of the video I have a little pop up tent "playpen" thing and I think that is a good thing to have your snakes out of their enclosure in a controlled way. Open it up and throw some toys and stuff in there and they are good to go, and you can bring it around the house or outside without worrying about them escaping (as long as you remember to zip it up and carefully monitor it).
I have often wondered about snakes that live in drawer-like enclosures. It doesn't seem very nice but I don't know anything about snakes. I'm scared of snakes but I hate to see any animal live in a cage 24/7. I think this is great if it can be done safely.
For most snakes, their #1 priority is safety and security. Those tubs often provide that feeling for the snake and they usually do really well in them. I do think it's important to give them enrichment and stimulation on a regular basis though.
I love this idea very much! If ever I end up in a situation where I can, I would love to try this! Back when I had my ball Python I did let him roam supervised but it was limited due to my family members not liking him, but I do still believe it did him some good!
Great helpful video, thanks Bob! When free roaming some of mine will crawl behind a neighbor’s tub to access the hot spot… is this a problem and what can I do about it? Also, your idea of a playpen for the juveniles has been great. I’ve noticed a difference in their overall confidence and sociability since I started using one. It has hides, cork, fake plants, cardboard boxes with access holes, and whatever other little things I pick up. Cheap artificial graduation leis are the current hit. Thanks for being the best source for improving quality of life for noodles!
I'm glad the playpen is working for you. You don't want a snake going into a rack and accessing the heat tape itself because that tape is hotter than the temperature inside the tub. I just watch my snakes and make sure they're not going into the back of the rack. I have one snake that I trained not to go back there but I can't spend time training every snake so I just watch them and redirect if needed
i keep other small animals (birds, rabbits, rats) so i've never had experience with snakes but this is so cool to me 💯 having a snake room is so bad ass
I have Ball Pythons, a Burmese Python, Sumatran Python, Blood Pythons, a King Snake, a young Bull Snake and 5 Boas. They do come out when they wish or when I clean their cages. One at a time. I know each snake. They thrive on enrichment and each has his or her own preferences. Mya is a lovely Black Head Python. Have you had her since she was very young? Do they make good pets?
I want a snake so bad. Used to be so afraid of snakes. The last couple yrs I've been on this journey though and have really become extremely enamored with snakes and reptiles. I'd definitely have a designated enclosure for a snake but i think free roaming would be something i do when im home. ❤
I personally think that overall it depends on the animal, its behavior, they way you are, and is your home or area safe. Obviously theres a lot of other things at play but I think that they are thw firat things someone should look @ before they even think it may be a good idea to let their animal/s free roam. I would absolutely love to but I dont have a particular area in my home that I feel is safe for her at all times so, unfortunately I dont let her free roam, but, I do let her out whenever she wants/ or I want. Indo think a lot of people dont have open minds when it comes to different things with animals, especially reptiles. We all need to be open minded and learn from one another. I personally love the fact you let your babies free roam, its amazing that they have that opportunity to if they so choose. Have a great day
i still live at home & my mom was pissed when i brought mr.slithers home but now everyone loves him & i definitely want more snakes once i have my own place. this looks like much fun for the snakes i love this.
It's so cool to see other people do this! I have always free roamed my corn snakes in my apartment. They love real plants too! So long as they are reptile safe plants, no pesticides/ fertilizers and have organic soil or some kind of reptisoil. Also for people who want to try free roaming you can use thick masking tape and packaging tape to block off open spaces under cupboards, spaces between floors and oven, under the fridge, etc. Corn snakes can't break through that but a stronger snake might be able to. Having a dedicated room with no carpet is best because every once and a while they will poop on the floor 😵💫 it much more sanitary to clean it off the hard floor where it won't soak in!
its great you know your snakes so well like this! i was wondering about how you deal with males/females previous to this too, so it answered that question! My goal is to someday have a snake-proof office so i can lock my cat out and let my snake roam, within reason. shes a bp but if shes not in shed or not just eaten, she wants to come out and explore. my only question left is, and i mean this fully respectfully, if you're worried about salmonella or have gotten it? i used to work in microbio and watching reptile content thats always at the back of my mind
That's a great question. Reptiles can carry salmonella but it's pretty rare - much more common to get it from eggs... I remember in the 80's and 90's all the moms would list that as the #1 reason not to touch a snake or lizard. But in my lifetime of keeping reptiles, I have never caught salmonella and I've never known anyone who has caught salmonella from a reptile. It's not a big concern for me personally 🙂
Are you sure Handsome Dan is still alive? I’ve never seen a snake so still! This is a great video! With 2 dogs, 3 cats 1 parrot and Doodle, my snake, free roaming is impossible. If he comes out, it’s usually in the evening when the dogs and parrot are in there night crates. The cats could care less about Doodle because he doesn’t move fast. They’re more into toys that move fast.
@@GreenRoomPythons It was a TV show about 5yrs ago I know it was ice cube & probably Kevin heart seeing a huge black head python on a TV show and it was huge.....they were walking up to the snake to touch it and I think ice cube punked out but he still walked up to it. I see they can get pretty bigggg****
Your setup is my dream! I've always wanted to put up some things for my snakes to climb and hang out outside of their tank and you've inspired me to start doing that. DEFINITELY thoroughly snake proofing and constantly supervising though I've had some scares in the past lol!
As soon as the lights go out, my ball python is on the move trying to climb everything. If I don't let her out, she pushes against the ventilation holes until I let her out. If she is roaming around, she doesn't care about the ground space and only does climbing. Sometimes I think my husbandry is wrong, but she eats well and I tried everything (Temps, Humidity and even a bigger enclosure but she just ignores everything I throw in there for enrichment)
Makes me think about the burm that free roamed my own apartment years ago...shed follow my cats scent all over the place (he was safely locked in his own spoiled rotten room during her free time)
LOL one of my Blood Pythons was able to push the top up I didnt have it locked and he was out and about for a week we (lost in the house) couldnt find him, I knew he would show up sooner or later and want his heater pad haha (it was in the winter and the floor is kind of cold) we found him under a bunch of stuff in a corner, he was really cold but fine, all my snakes seem to want to be out, but still be on me or my son, my office is pretty big and clear of anything they can get into so its pretty cool, yes I comment on your videos from time to time and you probably already know I have a 100 lbs dog that is really chill and just dont mess with them, "them" on the other hand I think they like his fur or warmth and thats cool because he just dont care and now they know he is chill they have never struck at him or done anything to make me worry
“She’s pretty good at climbing but she’s really good at falling”- My corn snake, everyday, without concern of the hyperactive puppy or the curious cat 🤦🏻♀️
Tbank you so much for this! I have been obsessed with snakes since my childhood and I'm owning 2 corn snakes and a ballpyhton. I'm still learning and you're such an inspiration. I'm gonna let my snakes free roam when I get a bigger flat. thank you❤
This is an outstanding video, I have different species of pythons that are free roam together. Special precautions definitely need to be made to make to ensure their safety.
My ball Python roamed for 2 1/2 months. *my fault After looking for her many times with a snake camera which we ordered because she was missing, she appears one evening coming out of a bathroom into the kitchen 😮😊 Healthy but hungry. We think she was in a wall. The two cats don’t bother her.
Hi Bob! i’ve been watching your videos for a while now and i just got my first snake a few weeks ago he’s a pastel spotnose highway named danger. I love learning about all your snake’s personalities and names, and your tips have helped me a lot with getting my snake comfortable in his new environment. Your videos are super funny and im glad you’re keeping up the content c:
i really adore this idea. mine wouldnt do well with the fluffy stuff i keep. Edit: FWC wouldnt like it either... i found yiu from the build off from SD
"And good luck finding a cameraman who not only owns his own VHS camcorder, but also knows how to work all the buttons on it!" XD i mean, he has a point
If I let my BP free roam, (I leave the door open, she seems “happy” when out on the town) she takes ages to get comfortable in her viv. Glass surfing, escape behaviour, etc… stress I have to cover the tank for a day or two, that seems to sort her out. I put a “foreground” in the front of the Viv now, branches etc… that seems to stop the glass surfing. She’s normally fine, sleeps most of the day, roams/patrols in the evening most days… Anyway, love the videos… Kent 😂 Foregrounds? Any ideas? I have a wooden Viv 4x2x2 with sliding glass doors… No snake-eating-snake action please. That freaks me out 🐍
I keep watching your fascinating videos and they are making me less afraid of snakes. I love the ball pythons. However, just looking at the black headed python ( Mia?) has me running for the hills. She just scares me to death. I don’t know why. Love your videos. Hope you keep making them.
I'm glad you're enjoying the videos! You're not alone, most people that have some sort of fear of snakes are pretty intimidated by Maya. I think it might be the black head but I'm not sure. I've heard that from a number of people though ;-)
I was wondering about letting my boa free-roam so this is really informative, thanks Bob! Loving this channel! Handsome Dan.....is that a nod to the (now former) Whisky tribe guy? Slainté! 🥃😋
Just discovered your channel and I'm in love with you all! This is such an incredible video and that epic relic of a VHS recorder is priceless! Lol Also, did you say Dungeons and Dragons???
Another great video Bob, I’m curious on your view about cross contamination with different species because of things like Nido virus and IBD. I have 3 different species. A green tree Python, ball Python and a boa and I have separate tools for everyone down to spray bottles and feeding tongs. I’m constantly washing my hands between care or feeding to make sure I don’t cross contaminate anything. But then I see your video where all these different species are roaming around on the same surfaces another could have just been on. Definitely curious on your views with this topic. Thanks Bob!
Handsome Dan has had full panels done and came back clean. I was very concerned about IBD as well. I think it's important that you know that your snakes are healthy before allowing them to hang out in the same areas as one another.
Hey Bob, I love your channel (and Kent!). I'm doing tons of research on keeping a ball python before getting one, and now I'm going through all of your videos! Just a quick question: Do your pythons do their thing (pee/poop) when they're free roaming around your place? Is it a hassle to clean it off things, such as rugs and stuff? I have cats, and I know how hard it is to get the odor off anything they pee on. Is it like that with ball pythons?
They don't really. Snakes have slow metabolisms and they don't go very often. It almost always happens in the middle of the night in their own enclosures.
@@GreenRoomPythons Thanks for your answer! 🥰That's good to know. I did see some keepers that had their snake pee on them during filming...so I thought that was something that happens sometimes.
i love the idea of free roaming my ball python, but he's basically always in one of his hides. i ALWAYS have to pull him out to check for poops/move things around etc. and i feel terrible for it but this boy gives me no choice )-: i dunno if that's just how he likes it or what, i swear he used to be more active tho
I have wondered about how to safely give my girl some more time out of her enclosure aside from handling. My house is in no way able to be snake-proofed. *However* I could do something like a playpen, which I would have NEVER thought of if not for your video and the mention of a cat-tent lower down. This has also given me an idea what to do with my toddler's current room after the young adults move out and her room is able to be changed. It has a built into the wall bookshelf and solid walls/ceiling. It would make a fantastic snake room in the future. I have a bunch of extra stuff I have changed out of her enclosure and the play area would be a great way to utilize the stuff that's hanging out under her enclosure collecting dust. A question I have to you though, my BP is not usually active in the mornings. Usually I see her the most active in the evenings and night. Is that normal that she's not very active in the mornings? Would taking her out at night when she's active interfere with anything?
My ball python will happily return on his own to sleep in his enclosure during the day or after eating but every night that he isn't shedding or digesting he wants to inspect and climb on every corner of my bedroom until sunrise LOL (I remove anything that he could get stuck or lost in before I let him out)
"When Maya's out, she's moving slowly and checking everything out."
Maya: "I know these delicious ball pythons are around here somewhere. I can smell it."

She is an awesome snake, but I think all the snakes out of that clutch turned out amazing . I'm glad she's enjoying free roaming :-)
@@GreenRoomPythons She’s amazing! I’m very lucky to have her.
Okay first: I am VERY impressed at how perfectly you framed the recommended video at the end of this video!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😎
I wish I worked from home so I could free roam my snakes all day. But I always enjoy seeing your snakes adventure around. I love that Maya has been free roaming lately, and I love how attentive she is!!
Wait til you're here next - we'll let Maya out and see how long it takes her to show particular interest in you ;-)
@GreenRoomPythons I bet it doesn't take her long. She's super smart and she'll probably recognize super quickly that I'm not a typical installation in her world.
I love the way you are with your snakes. I think every person really needs to know what they are doing if they are going to let them free roam.
That's great, I'm glad the channel is helpful for you!
I love this ❤- I can’t stand anything being kept in a cage full-time.
My parakeets are never locked in their cage or get wings clipped, they have their own safe room to fly, and now I feel guilty that their room is not big enough.
Love your channel and free roaming snakes 🐍
That Black-Headed Python is an unbelievably stunning animal. What an incredible pattern!
Thank you!
Awesome video, definitely going to fix up a playpen for my snakes - they're all too small yet for full freedom, despite what the hognose will tell you. 😅
Seal your house with caulking and let that hognose free! 😄
@@GreenRoomPythons Don't give her ideas 😂
I might try a playpen with my corn snake. He loves exploring anything new, so he might like it, and he might even get more confident
first we had the free roam (in house) rabbits revolution and now were getting the snakes too!! this is great
I’m very far in my life from a point where i can keep a pet snake at all, much less free roam it, but the potential for doing this at some point in the future is soooo exciting to me, i really love your free roaming videos
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your videos. Sage the Snek is 3 days from feeding and 4.5 away from ending new home quarantine, and I have been watching as many vids as I can to ensure Sage is a happy, healthly python!!
LOL - I love these videos so much. You hit all of the right checkmarks, hilarious, informative, entertaining. 😆🥰
Glad you like them!
Thanks so much, I appreciate the kind words. Welcome to the channel!
As a *TOTAL NERD* - yes, come join the Horde! Play D&D with us! Help me realize my dream of having a D&D game every night of the week! And, you know, there's really cool people and snake stuff.
Artful, you are a great spokesperson for The Horde!
I love all the great little areas you have built up for them to explore that encourages their exploration and movement
Thanks, glad you liked it! We're having a good time with the inaugural Horde of Keepers D&D campaign 🙂
Man living his best life with more snakes than i'll ever meet. All of these snoots look really boopable tho, very cute 10/10!
Aw thanks, I appreciate that. I'm glad you're enjoying the channel! Let's be formally introduced next time :-)
@@GreenRoomPythons yes please! Just starting out with my channel and have much to learn, and I’m loving connecting with those I respect in the community in the process!

Came for the snakes, stayed for the beard.
thank you this is the best way to remind new viewers to like and sub...seeing your snakes crawl over those wonderfully built structures is awesomsaucy 🎉
Oh wow. Gotta try a free roaming for my corn snake. He might enjoy it, and I always worry he is not getting enough exercise
Please just boop the snoops - I love the little derby faces
honestly i think ur a genius
Aw, thank you!
liked just for that VHS joke in the beginning
But more to the point of the video I have a little pop up tent "playpen" thing and I think that is a good thing to have your snakes out of their enclosure in a controlled way. Open it up and throw some toys and stuff in there and they are good to go, and you can bring it around the house or outside without worrying about them escaping (as long as you remember to zip it up and carefully monitor it).
Yes, enclosed playpens work great!
Thank you, your video help me find my ball python when it escaped
Maya: beautiful
Maya the snake eating: beautifully scary
Maya the snake eating snake that falls a lot: all of the above still, but endearing.
I love that you had a short blow up!!! Well deserved!!!!
Aw thanks!
One of my BPs got out a few weeks ago, she was gone for 4 days and then I heard her knock down bottles in the shower / bath tub so it all worked out.
Glad you found her!
I've had my ass since she was a little over a year old. I think they make great pets especially for experienced snake keepers.
I want a snake so bad. Used to be so afraid of snakes. The last couple yrs I've been on this journey though and have really become extremely enamored with snakes and reptiles. I'd definitely have a designated enclosure for a snake but i think free roaming would be something i do when im home. ❤
Sounds like you're doing some good research at this point :-)
Fantastic, fun, detailed, informative video as always Bob! I love the details you always provide. Best info on UA-cam!
Thanks Kieu! I really appreciate that. Glad you enjoyed it!
its great you know your snakes so well like this! i was wondering about how you deal with males/females previous to this too, so it answered that question!
A king snake is a king snake. 🐍
Spotting 🐍🐍 thermal camera! Done.
Goalz Bob, ty again ❤
Are you sure Handsome Dan is still alive? I’ve never seen a snake so still!
This is a great video! With 2 dogs, 3 cats 1 parrot and Doodle, my snake, free roaming is impossible. If he comes out, it’s usually in the evening when the dogs and parrot are in there night crates. The cats could care less about Doodle because he doesn’t move fast. They’re more into toys that move fast.
Yeah, managing other animals when you have snakes is a whole other task :-)
OMG THIS IS SO COOOOOL!!!!!I would probably stay in this house for the rest of my life
Really appreciate the information and care you offer. Going to get my first snake in the next couple months and I’m so hyped!

Bahahaha, that opening joke 😂😂😂
Thanks for the video. I'd love to let my BP free-roam someday when I have the space for it.
Sounds like she's just doing her own thing 🙂
@@GreenRoomPythons yeah, sometimes I think they accidently paired her mother with a retic or so :D
Also these snakes are so adorable
Makes me think about the burm that free roamed my own apartment years ago...shed follow my cats scent all over the place (he was safely locked in his own spoiled rotten room during her free time)
LOL one of my Blood Pythons was able to push the top up I didnt have it locked and he was out and about for a week we (lost in the house) couldnt find him, I knew he would show up sooner or later and want his heater pad haha (it was in the winter and the floor is kind of cold)
we found him under a bunch of stuff in a corner, he was really cold but fine, all my snakes seem to want to be out, but still be on me or my son, my office is pretty big and clear of anything they can get into so its pretty cool, yes I comment on your videos from time to time and you probably already know I have a 100 lbs dog that is really chill and just dont mess with them, "them" on the other hand I think they like his fur or warmth and thats cool because he just dont care and now they know he is chill they have never struck at him or done anything to make me worry

I had no idea black headed pythons ate other snakes
This is an outstanding video, I have different species of pythons that are free roam together. Special precautions definitely need to be made to make to ensure their safety.
I really wish in Australia we had ball pythons, hog nose and corn snakes😢 you guys are allowed out Aussie snakes 😂
My ball Python roamed for 2 1/2 months. *my fault
After looking for her many times with a snake camera which we ordered because she was missing, she appears one evening coming out of a bathroom into the kitchen 😮😊 Healthy but hungry. We think she was in a wall. The two cats don’t bother her.

16:13 *Black Headed Python added to inventory*
If I let my BP free roam, (I leave the door open, she seems “happy” when out on the town) she takes ages to get comfortable in her viv. Glass surfing, escape behaviour, etc… stress
I have to cover the tank for a day or two, that seems to sort her out.
I put a “foreground” in the front of the Viv now, branches etc… that seems to stop the glass surfing.
She’s normally fine, sleeps most of the day, roams/patrols in the evening most days…
Anyway, love the videos… Kent 😂 Foregrounds? Any ideas? I have a wooden Viv 4x2x2 with sliding glass doors…
No snake-eating-snake action please. That freaks me out 🐍
I love how "roaming" around is more of a the snakes just going around looking for a place where they can stay lazing around for a while 😂😂
That's definitely true for ball pythons 😉
I love it!! They get to be themselves during the day! I would so come and have a drink with them roaming.

Slainté! 🥃😋

Welcome to the channel, I'm glad you're enjoying it! And yes, dungeons & dragons ;-)
Could you do a video/short on how you take snakes out of their enclosure?
That's a good idea, I have explained it in videos before but it would be good to do a short on it
ima let ya know bob i’m very picky with reptile youtubers to just watch or learn from and i LOVE YOUR CHANNELLL so you are one of few (2)
Aw thanks so much, I appreciate that!
That's normal, they all have their own schedules but it's usually morning and/or night. I think it's good to work with him when they're already awake
@@GreenRoomPythons Thank you! Good luck in the enclosure contest! I loved your gargoyle tower!

This was really interesting 😊 Thank you .
