I have a 2015 S550 and apart from the usual oil, brakes and had the transmission flushed, tires. Its a pretty solid car. Everything works and its my everyday car. I know 3 other people with older versions of S550 with over 150k miles, works perfect. They were taken care of.
The rear headrest release button only works if you have the rear headrest is upward position. When you have it all lifted upwards, only then you can press the release button to improve visibility whilst reversing the behemoth of a car. That comes standard with almost all Mercedes since the late 80s if I'm not mistaken 😊😊😊

my 2004 W220 S500 has 244,000 miles and it's as strong as ever. The soft close system and the door/trunk locks do not work, a pain in the ass, but it's something I live with. I get 25 mpg with the AC on doing 80 mph, and it is a time machine when needed. Swapped the AirMatic system to Yellow Speed Racing coil overs about 3 years ago, stupid idea, but it wasn't horrible. Went back to the AirMatic system after about 25k miles and haven't had any issues. Replaced the Transmission with a remanufactured unit in 2017, and it's had a couple of AC compressors over the years, a requirement in Southern California. As a daily driver, it's about as nice a car one can get for the money, finding a well maintained example is a plus, and a 2003 S500 has an AUX input for Audio in the glovebox, it's the ONLY year that offers one, ALL other years (MOSFET Command Systems) do not.
Not much goes wrong with them really. The 07's had the timing/ balance shaft issue on early production models which was corrected on later 07 and subsequent model years. The air suspension will need repair/maintenance after 8-10 years, which can be expensive. Everything else is pretty much routine maintenance...
9:51 the vents on the back of the seats are the exhaust for the seat ventilation not ac vents, fart in the front seat with ventilation on and the rear seat passenger won’t be happy
Also you can mention that there are double pane windows that’s why there’s not much wind noise, and I think you might have a heated steering wheel try turning the end of the control to move the steering wheel. And I don’t remember for sure on the w221 but your car is Pretty close to a base 550 so the rear headrest might not have power up and down, try to raise them manually then hit the button on the center console and they should go down quickly. If you feel any significant resistance when attempting to manual raise then stop but try all 3 sometimes they get stuck down if one works then just give the others a good tug to get them up

And I’ve had plenty of customers come in and say things like the heated steering wheel is broke but they just don’t know how to turn it on, or the car starts rough but this is typically caused by not knowing the proper way to start the car.

It is 11 years old number one. And second, they are reliable if properly maintained. You can't blame Mercedes for previous owners not looking after them. The problem is that people buy them cheap but then don't take maintenance into account. They do hack jobs and don't service it then want to be shocked when something goes wrong. Cars this advanced for its time will not be cheap to maintain. But being expensive to maintain does not mean they're not reliable. To get the best, people can't be naive to think you pay cheap prices. No. They're reliable if maintained as Mercedes intended.
Picking up a 2013 s550 4matic with a sticker price of $115k for $11k with 79k miles. It’s a one owner vehicle. It does need some TLC though. Excited to put some miles on it!
its an empty $ pit no matter how you slice it... any German car over 50k miles and about 5 years old qualifies as one... Beautiful car yes, but so was my 2013 BMW X5 I bought with 96k miles.. within 8 months it emptied my pocket by nearly $2,500 and that was with an extended warranty! Worn out front suspension, leaking rear differential and frozen door lock (actuator). I was sinking fast and couldn’t sell it privately so i traded it for. My 2013 LEXUS ES 350 with only 30k miles (30,009) in April 2019. BEST car ive ever owned and I’ll be keeping it for 10+ yrs !

Any large purchase and even small i always research the item ....except this one time. I wrote that post 5 months ago and since then i have found out that they are some older Mercedes that are very reliable and yes i agree they are more reliable then BMW’s in general. In 2011 i bought a 2000 VW Passat wagon 6 cylinder 5 speed manual with only about 75k miles... super low for its age. Kept it for nearly 5 years and only got rid off it because the cars CPU couldn’t communicate with NYS DMV’s inspection computer and to replace it would’ve cost more than what the car was worth at the time which was about $2,200 in 2016. That Passat was great.. sold it with about 110k miles

The sound you hear, may be the Suspension compressor. It's mounted on a bracket which rots away and the compressor becomes loose and vibrates. Check it out. Wiggle on the compressor if it's loose,that's where the sound is coming. 😅

Your car have only back headrests lowering button. Some have rising too but it is option. You didn't know that backseat handrest have cup holders also.

Just got a 160k, cherry. The AC is iffy. I’m going to try the blower motor replacement I saw on here. Supposedly 200.00 & 30 minutes. But as for the car, wow! Luxery.
the thing about european cars...BMW, MB, Audi etc..is that they tend to be great mechanic cars...or DYI cars. I have great experience with them since I do the work myself. A car like this is a bargain compared to any "new" cars anyone can buy today. My 2006 BMW 530i still runs and drives much better than a lot of "new" cars today. I know this for a fact because I've driven a lot of "new" cars...I recently spent 3 days with a 2022 Sentra, and I couldn't wait to go back to my "old" car. I hate to say it but these economical cars are just trash...with their front wheel drive layout and performance that generally doesn't inspire... you get to realize that if you're one of those who likes to work on cars and have the space, the tools and the patience to do it yourself...an older euro car is the best choice.

10:15 that button for the rear head rests works, it just only puts the headrests down. You have to manually lift them up.

I thought that the most opulent mercedes was the maybach? AMD dont get me wrong I love mercedes......but it does not compete with the likes of a rolls Royce.

U are both wrong. Above 550 there is the v12 600, and AMG 63, 65
s550 is junk mercedes.
