Just wanted to mention that I advocate towards Guinea pigs also having buddies, but for these cases I didn't mention it because I want these people to focus on making a better living space before adding more pigs to their family :)
Oh and I would luv it if u can commit on my reply I would mean a lot. 😄😁
Hi Alyssa what’s your email to send in my cage to you? I am pretty sure I sent you my cage but it has not been in any of your reaction videos yet so I just want to make sure that I have the right email
@@victoriapawluk9763 it’s in the description of this video
Can you please do one of these for rabbits! I would definitely submit!!!
I wanna get a pig but I’m not sure what to get yet any advise
The "minimum" of a guinea pig cage is like parents giving their children a minimum of a bed and maybe a desk, for their room to live in.
that is SUCH A GOOD WAY TO PUT IT!
my parents gave me a mattress on the floor and that’s it :)
@@uptownbrat same 💀
so like a prison cell
So true lol😂😂
You're way nicer than me about these cages lol. I get so mad when I see small cages or guinea pigs in bird cages
I’m the same way with rabbits, I’ve absolutely GONE OFF on people who are blatantly ignorant about cage sizes
@@paigenorkus7047 I've told people that their cages are too small and they'd get so offended and tell me that their pet store cage is plenty big. It's hard for me to be nice about it
@@jenniferhorn8137 damn ppl are stupid
The bird cages are not even big enough for birds, why do people get these animals when they aren't actually interested in them and are not willing to love them like they should. It drives me crazy
And specially frustration to see kids have guinea pigs in bad cages because often even if they want to change it and do better often they are not allowed by their parents.
I'm gonna say it again: This white eyeliner looks just absolutely stunning on you and I can't get enough. I can't describe it, but your eyes just look so radiant and "eyecatching" (heh.)
Thank you!
Ikr she looks stunning
@Mason Adams they did?
@Mason Adams where?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Totally off topic from this video but this makeup look NEEDS a video tutorial 😍 ❤
Its very brave to be so open and truthful. This clearly took a lot of time and thought.
Hey Scotty! Love you and all your piggies!! They are all so cute ! You are such a great piggy daddy. Gari is my favorite little piggy! and his adorable love for a good chin rub! 😍😍😍😍 ❤️
Thank you for advocating for great care of Guinea Pigs. As an adult, I researched for 6 months before adopting my two male piggies. They had a 2x6 C&C cage. I used fleece bedding. Hay pile in a litter pan w/a hay bag above it. 2 food dishes, 3 water bottles, 2 hides and a tunnel. Fresh veggies each day, vet care check ups. They lived for 6 years with me. They were estimated to be about 1 when I adopted at a local shelter. They were bonded brothers. I had never kept Guinea Pigs before. What I discovered was that the hay really bothered me. So, when Piglet and and then Rascal crossed the rainbow Bridge, I decided not to keep Guinea Pigs anymore. But, I still enjoy seeing them and I am glad there are channels like yours out there.
Ppl need to get over the “harshness” it’s not harsh, these are REAL, LIVE animals that deserve proper care and love. If ppl are not doing proper care then they need to know, that’s why they sent the pics for her to react to. And if ppl can’t do simple research then they shouldn’t have pets, especially kids who cannot properly care for them either.
I’m fifteen. I got my first pet at twelve (A female Syrian hamster.) , and I 100% agree with the “kids shouldn’t have Guinea pigs/pets”. My hamster suffered because I knew she needed more and my parents wouldn’t let me upgrade her care. Luckily I finally convinced them, but that was really traumatic for both me and my hamster.
Love your videos, and your outfit, hair, and makeup were on point! 💗
I’m young and luckily my lovely mom did lots of research and asked questions about Guinea pigs to pet store and I got the proper things and my mom would listen and if I told her something wasn’t right we changed it! I had Guinea pigs for my first pets and they have enough room and have to hidey houses (one for both of them) and have proper food and bedding!
@@quit-rt4vz Yes it does, you probably dont earn money so youre dependant on your parents. Theres not much you could do as a child if your parents decided that they arent going to fund the care.
@@iamr0ttinginside my parents don’t pay for my pets I earn the money on my own and I also pay for birthday presents on my own along with wrapping paper and tape it’s really good to have education and a pet to help teach the child how to spend money wisely
Age doesn’t matter as long as they want the pet a lot and are wiling to care for it and cherish it till the day it dies then it’s okay.
@@quit-rt4vz Age does matter. You will need your parents money and even if you make your own you will still need your parents to take you out to the their needs and for any vet appointments. You’re parents need to be 100% on board with everything until you can drive yourself and make your own money so yes, age does matter. :)
I’ve had small pets my entire childhood and I must say I agree. My parents not caring we’re extremely uneducated and left it up to a 7-8 year old to properly care and know how to care for small pets. It wasn’t until I was 9-10 that I decided to research and learned what I know now. My parents never paid for vet bills , offered to , or did when it was needed. It broke my heart to stop owning animals ... But they deserved better! Although my care was great vets are so so important. When I turned 15 I got a job and decided I was once again ready. I paid for everything, when they needed the vets I got a ride and paid myself. Now I’m 16 and it is such a relief to not have to rely on anyone to ensure great care for my pets. I REALLY hope any young children considering pets thing of all of this.
We 100% agree if you can't afford vet care then don't get an animal. We take our pets whenever they need it. We have a 10.5 year old dane. And let me tell you my parents don't even question it when she needs to go to the vet. She spent 2-3 days at an emergency vet getting round the clock care because she had really bad phenomena (the vet was more worried about the price than my father was.) My father just asked if it was useless per say AKA should we just put her down. She fought hard and she's home now.
I’m so glad you got to enjoy having pets again, it is a shame when parents don’t care or refuse to listen or learn.
@@TessesKingdom maybe because it’s not the parents job to care for the animal the child wanted. 100% the child’s responsibility
@@lisahannah7789 the parent should still pay for stuff or help pay. the parent decided to get the child a pet, the parent should at LEAST make sure the animal is healthy and being treated right.
@@shortii12341 some parents think that for Guinea pigs being small they are some kind of object, but they are a living creature like dogs and cats. Just because they are small or look like they don’t need that much , they might need as much as a dog and cat needs.
Alyssa has delivered her points with detail, clarity, poise and CARE. All of these people voluntarily sent photos of their cages to be critiqued! Thank you Alyssa for always putting guinea pig wellness first! 💗💗
💕💕💕💕
Yes you hit it on the dot. !!
my daughter is 10 & she *helps* me look after the four guinea pigs but no way could she do the full cage cleans or stuff, she just passes me things I need etc I agree parents need to be onboard with pets such as these. I wanted to get guinea pigs so I had no expectations for my kids to look after them & now I know how much work it is I would never recommend them as a "starter pet" or ideal for children, so I hate that they're often viewed like that
I’m young around that age and I do full cleans and spot cleans! (Just saying)
@@imnot6969 that's awesome for you! But unfortunately not everybody can. Some people are better at certain things than other people. I think it is more not just your age but your willingness and being responsible. Someone can be really good at reading while maybe another person just isn't very good at reading and that's okay. We all have our strengths or weaknesses. Does that make sense or should I shut up? 😂
Such a good mom omg
@@imnot6969 I'm super glad your a amazing piggie owner :]
@@dogsforever8778 No it makes sense! I know not everyone can!
I just dont understand how anyone watching Alyssa's videos could think that outdoor hutch/peepad cages are even close to being ok, genuinely baffled and upset.
yes!!! Just a reminder that if your thinking of adopting an animal please always do your research before hand. And also have everything ready so the animal isn’t stuck in a little space , as a temporary cage.
Yes! I watched a ton of Victoria Raechel and probably some other people and did a ton of research on Google for month and months before I got a Hamster. I also found Alyssa's videos when I just was looking for Guinea Pig Care because for now on I am gonna do my research for every animal even if they are animals I don't want just to be educated and her videos have been extremely helpful and made me realize that even if I do want guinea pigs I would much rather wait until I have the space, time, and money to give them the proper care they need.
And also make sure you can financially support both their care and vet trips. And also it’s probably be a good idea to check with your landlord just to make sure you’re allowed to have them and how many you can have before getting them, I see a lot that people get guinea pigs then have to desperately rehome them because their landlord didn’t approve.
@@sushilps4077 yes!! You pointed out a lot of important details. You’re right! specially if your planing on getting any kind of exotic animals.
I think you were very kind in your delivery. You didn’t shame anyone you’re just stating facts and giving excellent advice. Idk why but I love watching these videos lol
I am in my 50’s and have had piggies off and on since I was 5. I’ve always tried to do the right thing by them however, I have learned so much since the advent of the Internet. In the past, I did not know I was supposed to give my piggies hay. They ate pellets and had access to free roam in the backyard once a day. Iceberg lettuce was a treat. We strung cardboard boxes together for their cage and lined them with shredded newspaper. Boy have we come along way!
My boys now are in a huge C&C cage with four different hides and a tunnel. There are two of them and they are spoiled. I do huge loads of laundry twice a week to keep their cage clean. I couldn’t believe the first time I saw guinea pigs on fleece. However, it’s definitely the best bedding next to the bathmats from target. I feel guilty for the way my piggies in the past were raised but I did the best I could with the knowledge I had at the time. It’s amazing what we can learn. Again even at my age, I swear I learn something new every day. BTW, check the way you’re using absorbent. Absorbable means it can be absorbed.
I’m 13 and been researching Guinea pig needs for years before even buying the cage. I have an acrylic cage that’s 24 x 96. I have never like barred cages bc it just looks and feels like a jail to me. I always just get disappointed when I see one of those small “PETCO cages” or people with one Guinea pig. I tell them that it’s wrong and the Guinea pig needs a bigger cage and at least one friend and tell them why. They usually just say it’s too costly. JUST DONT GET ONE THEN I GUESS. I rlly love your videos. ❤
Just make sure the ventilation is good enough. I understand your dislike of barred cages but keep in mind they can be very enriching for animals, as they can have things attached to them that smooth plastic or acrylic can't, and some animals enjoy climbing on them too, again which can't happen with smooth materials.
i’m not sure: i got my first guinea pig at 12 and i made sure to get EVERYTHING right. I got two of the biggest guinea dad cages and made sure to get TWO FEMALE guinea pigs that were pre bonded and i loved them more than the whole world. as long as the kid does a least a month of research and they REALLY care, i think they could be a great mom!!
edit: one of mt guinea pigs from then js died at eight years and the other is almost eight and still healthy i love them sm
another edit 😅 i got them a 2 by 8 cage and bc one of them has passed after seven years, i’m bonding the one left with whoever they like and i will adopt and expand the cage more
I loved this video, thank you for making it! I hope that these people take your suggestions into consideration. You’re truly a huge help in the guinea pig community and I know you’ve changed the lives of so many animals for the better. And off-topic but you are super pretty too! haha
So true! I am actually super curious which people actually changed anything or if anyone did.
I’m actually happy and i think it’s awesome you give feed back and don’t hold back on piggie knowledge. Some people may take you as a rude person but that’s your personality and those are your opinions and feelings. You’re telling people the truth about owning piggies pros and cons and from your experience. Those who come after you hate hearing the truth and nothing but the truth and are sitting at home still watching your videos. I thank you for what you do and for standing up for bad piggie info . Please continue being you, be the one who speaks back to those who can’t stand you. :)
Most piggy owners have a playground for them for play time out of the cages. I absolutely do. Recommendations on playground or playpens they are in pet stores. It allows more room and you can use it to sit with them for piggie time. Also one for outside on beautiful days (65 to 74%) that is predator proof. They love to explore, make it safe and really let them get to know you well. I read children books to mine. They love being talked to, in a kind sweet voice. I love guinea pigs. They are fantastic family.
Everyone, take bumblefoot seriously! As a guinea pig owner, I lost mine to that horrible disease. She had a really severe case even. How she got it is unknown
I am 11 and my mum does not care about my piggies I bought them with my own money and all the stuff for there cage I did loads of research I try and clean them out everyday they are all happy when ever I get money I spend it on tunnels and houses food and toys for them when I get a pet I make sure to take care of them I have 3 males and there cage is massive I could lay down In it and have extra space I am not offended Abt what you said I just want to change you opinion on children having pets not all of us abuse them
Alyssa the way you have critiqued these cages has been done in a gracious yet informative way, I really dislike when people do these videos and are just to nice, the whole point of this is to help and guide people. Your recommendations are always so well put across. I live your Chanel your my favourite UA-camr I don’t even own any animals 😂 I just love your pet Chanel abs personal Chanel.
You are brilliant and OMG your makeup is always so outstanding, please do a makeup tutorial video as your face always looks on fleek ✌🏻♥️ xx
I am only a kid still and I know I’m late but I have 2 Guinea pigs (female)and we got them in a really small cage (we didn’t buy it) and after watching ur vids I learned they need a bigger one so I upgraded and there much happier now so peanut and hazel say thank you to you and I agree that kids shouldn’t have piggies unless the parents aren’t willing to help or unless they don’t know what there doing❤
I’m with you on the “temporary cage” I can understand if you rescue a guinea pig on short notice but the very next day should be a priority to get a larger set up ✔️ Part of me feels like this is the guinea pigs home why would you send a pic of the piggie in a storage container even if it’s a “temporary cage”
I used a crate...it has a plastic bottom. Just till I ordered a c&c cage
Seeing these cages really upset me. I dont understand why people would get an animal without doing the proper research, money, and care. Alyssa has given great advice, please please! take her advice on the things she suggested. Its what pigs need. Also Alyssa i have no idea how you kept your cool! 🤣
I’m 13 with a dwarf hamster, living in a detolf and I made sure I have my money saved for if I need anything, did all my research, and my parents are rlly supportive too. I wish some parents did some research if they were gonna get their child a pet
i don’t have a guinea pig but i have a hamster (i’m 13), my mom is amazing enough to understand that hamsters need a lot of space. thank the lord for that! she lent me $70 for a IKEA detolf which i never excepted and i’m forever happy that she agrees with my hamster views! i also made sure i was educated on hamsters before i got one and then she learned with me :]
I’m glad you made this video because it pushed me back into motivation of getting a permanent home for my Guinea pigs as there are three of them in a 2x4 c&c as a temporary home because it was a rescue mission, I was driving behind this lady and I saw she had dumped a box in a a near by river which had then three in it. So again thanks:)
I would love to see some more cage reactions, love this video idea
Somtimes you have to be 'mean' or 'forward' otherwise people arent going to pay attention to the advice. I love watching your videos! And holy your makeup is gorgeous, i seriously need a tutorial
Hi, I have two girls and I’ve changed a lot from my boy I got him when I was 14 and unfortunately back in 2016 there wasn’t a lot of knowledge to around about their space and as 14 yo I got him a ferplast 120, as as a 14 yo I didn’t have money for better, he was a rescue from a pet shop that couldn’t be housed with other males and they didn’t neuter him. I feel horrible they I let him spend his night sleeping in that cage, otherwise he was with me on my bedroom floor or outside in his run, I still feel I wasn’t a good parent to him and had been saving up to buy him and c&c cage but he unfortunately passed away at 7 before I could, because I had no means of income until I was 20. I bought the 2x5 c&c cage finally so now my two girls I got are living in that, and there’s a guinea pig that needs rescuing from a friend I know, and I want to know if the 2x5 cage would be good enough for 3 girl guineas? I know I wasn’t a great dad for my boy, but I was scared he wouldn’t get the life he deserves even in a shelter and he was fine as he only slept in the cage, but I’m trying to change in his memory now that I have an income that isn’t solely for keeping me alive each month.
Honestly, I think you were being extremely respectful during this entire video. It’s simple, if you can’t afford the BARE MINIMUM to get your piggies a decent size cage, you don’t need one. If you can’t afford say about $100 for a cage, how are you going to afford to take your piggy to the vet when they’re sick?
After seeing the Cardboard Cage, I use PVC floor on Top of my wooden Floor to protect it against the pee of the piggies. On top we use Fleece.
PVC is in Germany a cheep alternative and works fine. So if you're on a budget or not that talented in building things it's in combination with songmics grits a really good option.
I’m so with you, I have 11 degus and their care is difficult. So many people get them and forget they need special care
My heart breaks for the sweet girl that is trying so hard to make a good life for her pigs, but her parents won’t allow a bigger cage. Any parent that allows their child to commit to an animal/animals, should be willing to help provide the very best for them. We have a ranch with horses, donkeys, dogs, cats and parrots and my days are spent making sure all of them are happy and exercised. My daughter wants to own rats and I’m now stressing myself out trying to find the largest cage and everything they’ll need. I have so much respect for the adorable owner of this channel taking the time to properly educate fellow owners. It’s unfortunate that pet owners aren’t required to pass tests before owning animals like it’s required to have a drivers license. 💜
I have never had Guinea pigs, this has helped a lot! I rescued 6 in a cage that’s around a 2x4 c&c cage and now there in pairs of 2 each in a 2x5 ❤❤
Having one Guinea pig is a crime equivalent to murder 😢
Yes, Guinea pigs do need Buddy's there's only a few reasons why some pigs have to be solo mainly because some pigs are mean to other pigs
ik, i had two piggies and one passed away after seven years a few nights ago so i’m going to take the other to a local shelter and have her bond with some piggies there and take them home!!
I feel like people do research and then just ignore the research because they can’t provide what’s recommended. If you can’t provide what’s needed, don’t get the pets!!!
You're not rude in this video at all in my opinion! I really, really hope these people will take your advice and provide better cages for their guinea pigs ASAP. It breaks my heart to see bad cages, especially the ones without a decent amount of hay (it's not even hard to provide?!) and the ones with just one piggie 😔
You explaining how it can be fixed and do an amazing job !! Thanks I would love to see another bad cage video. Honestly mine are in to small right now till there new kavee cage comes !
It really sucks to see people who even if they have good intentions just aren’t educated enough on what a Guinea pigs needs are, I don’t know why it’s widely thought that guinea pigs are pets that are ‘starter’ (for lack of a better word) pets, it’s heart breaking.
The kids in these comments XD
Fun math fact for anyone battling space or budget. You can squeeze more space out of an existing C&C cage by changing its configuration. Check this out. A 2 grid x 4 grid cage configuration gives you a living area of 1568 square inches. If you change the configuration to 3 grids by 3 grids, you increase your guinea pigs living space to 1764 square inches. That's an increase of 196 square inches. That's the equivalent of an extra panel by panel space.
I fully understand your concerns against children owning Guinea pigs, however, in some cases it can work.
My Guinea pigs have their cage fully cleaned (washed, taken apart, dried, re arranged and all that) twice a week, they have oaten and grass hay that they have access to 24/7, fresh clean water, lots LOTS of hides and veggies.
They get the required 10-30 mg of vitamin C daily and many additional fibres. I have three Guinea pigs, called Flame (Abisinian mix), winter (Sheba miny yak) and panda (Abisinian mix) who is in fact a boar, however he is fully desexed and the two sows have no chances of becoming pregnant.
Their cage is roughly around 6 metres wide and 2 long.
They have access to grass and pellets (containing extra vitamin C and calcium).
I go outside to bring them in each night ( my mum won't let me get a C&C cage, so I'm about to start working in a few months when I'm old enough).
I have just come back from clipping their nails and building them a castle out of wood.
I am 14 years old, I believe that I can look after them considerably well.
I am also currently writing two books and Cavies, one about care and hygiene, the other about origin and evolution.
Who's paying for that? Who's driving you to the vet? The only reason your setup is working is because of your parents cooperation.
C&C grids, people…. so much cheaper than all of these small cages people are insisting on using for some reason.
My 3 boars are in a 4x4 c&c they came to me in a store cage. It’s crazy how their personality changed once in a bigger cage. They are so happy doing all the dancing a squeaks. Of course I love your videos
I'm in the middle of setting up my C&C enclosure...it's (currently) setup as a 2x4 C&C, but I'm nowhere near done, so that might change. I don't have any pigs yet, I am making sure their enclosure is setup just perfect before I adopt a pair...I'm in no rush but hopefully soon! Still having fun just decking it out. This video gave lots of helpful tips!
as a kid. i properly take care of my guinea pigs. but seeing these cages just ticked me off, so much.
but kids are, and that is not their fault, dependent on their parents willingness to let them take proper care of them. So that is a big factor and sadly many parents just get the pet andn ot the care ;; Glad yours seem to understand though!
I get the temporary cages, because when I first adopted my pig Dot, she used to just stay in the corner. I took her to the vet, and they just said she was anxious. She was only 8weeks old, so I changed her cage and just added grids as she got bigger. She was much happier after this. Her and her sister Biddy both live in a 13 square foot cage (which is big enough for three) and are extremely happy. Biddy was in a similar position, but she quickly got over this, and was able to move up cage size within a week or so, while it took Dot nearly a month
i know this is off topic, but i love your eye makeup!! i wish I was that talented
This video makes me wanna cry honestly. I work at a pet store, slightly smaller than the big name pet stores and local to only wisconsin but still needs work. Anyways, I always always make sure our animals go to the best homes and if they aren’t the best then I educate until I’m blue in the face. Just upsets me so much that people put animals in these situations…heartless.
I am absolutely dying for some piggies but I live in a 2 bed apartment with 2 cats and a chihuahua and I know I can not give the piggies the life they deserve. I used to live in a 3 bed house with a big garden and they had a big enclosure with loads of run, toys and hides which was ideal but no matter how badly I want some piggies, until I can spoil them and give them the life they deserve I won’t have them. I think people need to realise this more.
I just rehomed a little girl piggie. I ordered her a 2x3 c&c the day she came home to us, we are just waiting for it to get here. We have been back and forth with the original owner for a while. It was her older son's pet, so her coming to us was short notice.
She is in the cage she original came in until her c&c gets here. I didn't like the hay rack, I couldn't really articulate why. But hearing you talk about it really helped solidify in my head why I want it out of her enclosure. She came with a litter box, she doesn't use it and I dont like it in her current cage. It's so small it makes me want to cry.
But the idea of using the litter box as a hay receptical instead is amazing and I will DEFINITELY be doing that as soon as her C&C cage gets here.
I think your channel is amazing! We are about to embark on being a family with two guinea pigs. It was supposed to be one until I learned that it’s always best pair. Luckily we are adopting two that have been together already. They are 6 Mo old. We have bunnies so we are knowledgeable but researching specifics to be a good home for piggies. Can’t wait to see more of your content.
That ramp with the carpet enclosure is SOOOOO steeep oh my heavens.
Hey Alyssa! I’m not saying this is every case, but a temporary cage could also be where you have two “male” pigs and one is a girl and they have a baby. This did happen to me, but I changed the cage a week later to a 2x6 c&c and got two more pigs so they could have partners.
as someone who had a guinea pig myself when i was way younger, i agree with the "kids shouldn't have pets" argument
P.S: videos like these really help me, as i want to have a second try with guinea pigs 👍
Thank you for your videos, I've been consuming as much guinea pig content before getting one and you've been very helpful for my cage designing/building
I'm turning 18 in a week and a half and my parents want me to have guinea pigs since I lost my emotional support animal on Valentine's Day.
I want nothing more than for my babies to be as happy as possible. My mom is also excited for the guinea pigs and we all agreed as a family unit that we want to make everything perfect for them before we even get them. I've been researching nonstop and I'm watching this video for cage inspiration because I haven't drawn out what I wanted for them yet.
That temporary cage…that’s really the best they could do???
I don't have any guinea pigs, I will probably never have any guinea pigs, but I have yet to miss a video😂 been here since before this Chanel even started😂🙌🏼 I discovered Alyssa from one of her opening Christmas presents videos and now she's become one of my comfort you tubers lol I have almost nothing in common and still watch every video😂😂
Alyssa I'm glad you made a video like this because it honestly upsets me to see guinea pig being treated badly . Can you make more of these ?
It upsets me too
Been waiting for this since yesterday's Instagram live!
There are some kids (9/10-13) who are educated about Guinea pigs. My parents say, “If you and your sister fight over the pig or can’t take care of them, they will go back.” Before, I was about to get a Guinea pig but plans changed (long story) and my parents were more open about doing 80% of the work since I was only like 7 or 8. But I am SO glad we didn’t get the pig. The cage they were going to come with was super small and although there was only one piggy, I don’t even think a hamster/gerbil would’ve survived in it. I was definitely NOT educated enough about Guinea pigs to own one. I would say age doesn’t matter as long as a parent is on board to help take care of the pig(s) and give them attention if their kids can’t. I think now that I know enough, thanks to AlyssaNPets, The Pig Room, Guineadad, and other piggy UA-camrs, that I’m ready for a pig. I want one, so I will look for a pig who is aggressive towards other piggies or just doesn’t do well with a buddy. My parents will be there to help show me how to clean their cage, (which yes, I know how to do) feed them the proper amount of food and a balanced diet, set the room to the right temp. , bathe them, and take them to the vet. If parents can’t afford or don’t have room for pigs, I wouldn’t consider getting one especially because it jeopardizes the pig’s trust with new people. Sorry if you find this offensive to your point, but I’m just trying to share my opinion that I think doesn’t have any false evidence. P.S. I’m so sorry this is so long
As a kid I always thought it was so unfair of my Mom to not let me have a hamster, gerbil, guinea pig or rabbit (basically any of the small mammals at the pet store) but now as an adult I know she was right. She didn’t want to take care of one and she knew I would get bored. Also we had two cats one of whom was very good at killing so it’s good we didn’t.
I was thinking of getting a guinea pig, and ive never owned a pet before. I was thinking of like a RAT cage and then this video helped me realize that all of my ideas of a guinea pig cage were completely wrong, thank you.
My kids “have” Guinea pigs. They are super young and I knew they by getting them these animals that it would be my job to make sure they are cared for. They are involved so they know the proper care for them and the things that are okay and not okay for them. If a parent doesn’t do the same then they shouldn’t be getting their children pets. It’s so aggravating. I very blindly got my daughter the first one and I bought her a god awful cage. Your videos were the first I watched about Guinea pig care and we instantly changed the cage and got her a friend and then a second friend.
It shouldn’t be the parents job to look after the animal the child wanted
@@lisahannah7789 Yes, it is. It’s what you sign up for by getting your child the pet. Especially when they need vet care and a certain type of set up. If you aren’t on board with taking care of the animal when/if your child loses interest or isn’t taking proper care of the animal then your child doesn’t need a pet. This is the second most common reason animals are rehomed and it’s because parents aren’t being responsible when getting children pets.
@@ashleynfam1773 the only responsibility the adult should have is just informing the child to do research or just to deny the request.
Thank you for this video. This is very informative. I have a Guinea pig myself. We are getting a huge cage for my Guinea pig and a new friend for her.
Great video! I also agree with not letting children "own" pets most families have very basic pets like dogs and can't properly train or take care of them 🤦🏽♂️ besides that great point on making sure you can afford the care for that animal (Ask the mortician has a great video on preparing for your pets final moments and how having a budget for that can really help with how you plan for their death beforehand so you arent left without important decisions while grieving) . Owning pets when you really aren't ready to financially afford them is causing suffering to that animal, I highly cannot stress this enough but highly recommend you wait until you are ready for them. I really want a Tegu down the line but can't get one at this point in my life due mostly to time. We owe it to the animals we have to respect what they are and research and constantly learn how to take care of them to the absolute best of our ability. We bring them into our lives so it's our responsibility to take care of them and promise them a good life with us. It took 4 years for me to get my dream dog a pug but I'm so glad I waited for a point in my life when I was independant.
Children can take care of animals. My parents don’t fund for my hamsters and I might get Guinea pigs for my birthday this year.
My guinea piggies live outside in outdoor wooden hutches. They are kept warm in them with blankets and are fed continuously throughout the day. They are happy and never fight. The females are separated from the females. I agree with the no kid should have a pet if the parents don't care, But as I am a kid I am called responsible and am completely responsible for feeding and cleaning. My Parents are afraid of them!
Love you Alyssa
Too many butthurt kids in the comments. If you're responsible then why are you getting butthurt? Also, if your piggies got sick, it would be your parents who would have to pay for the vet visits. Kids here acting as if they make their own money!
She even said that she knows kids can be good pet owners. Try listening.
I had a question i have to rehome two of the babies my guineapig had! How do you know when you found a good home?
I would say if they have proof of their cage they have already made and they have proof of a vet they use
You could also ask them what they plan to feed the piggies. It can really show you how much the new owner has prepared for the piggies
THANK YOU for making a video like this! Like you it makes me so mad that people still give improper care when they are obviously online and can re-search about that animal. If they get butt hurt that's on them,, not you. :)
Yes I am young and I am guilty of not caring about my guinea pig about a year ago I did my research and figure it out that my guinea pig is in way too small of a cage upgraded to a huge CNC cage got another guinea pig and I don’t think that any kid should have a guinea pig or any other small animals I wasn’t capable of taking care of an animal and I don’t think any other kids should I’m glad you pointed that out and I hope that people will notice That I started using fleece and more bedding and now my piggies are happy and great!!!!!
Harsh or not... This is considered animal abuse! Idk why people are so butt hurt when they get these animals but don't wanna take the step to give them the best life. As a person who had hamsters growing up... I don't believe in children having pets period! No matter if you're mature enough or not. I'm 23 now and STILL trying to give my animals the best care possible. Also, America has THE WORST animal care information, ESPECIALLY for small animals... Research or find European information about small animals.
You should do reacting to bunny rooms/enclosures!
No lie. All these cages pissed me off 😂
Poor piggies, I hope these viewers take your advice and make a nicer home for their little friends
I'm a child and my Guinea pig. She loves me petting her chin and putting her back and she always likes being next to me. 1 day we slepaltogether the key was sleeping next to me and I was just falling asleep.
I may not know much about guinea pigs(that’s why I don’t have them) but I know darn well that these guys need ALOT of space. Hamsters are my thing, and they need 600+ square inches of floor space. Let alone for an animal about 3 times the size of a hamster in something as small as these cages, just terrible-
My parents won’t let me get a larger guinea pig cage for my guinea pigs unfortunately:( there is 4 in a cage meant for 3 piggies, so i make sure to take them out a LOT and let them play in my room, i know they love to run around, but my oldest one hazelnut (8 years old) doesn’t run around as much, she just walks around my room and mainly sleeps and rests
I love how you criticized but you were still so nice and respectful about it. I’m getting a Guinea pig soon and I’m look for videos to show me how to set up his or her cage
Just a note for 4:22 : C&C grids are typically 14in across so a 2x4 c&c cage would actually be about 10.5 square feet!
I can’t wait to get my second Guinea pig to bond with my current one, there’s no shelters near me just petsmart, petco, and small humane pet shops (where I got my little lad) I’m gonna keep my New Guinea pigs pet store cage as a temporary one :)
It’ll be his kitchen area attached to his huge playpen until he’s bonded with Pixel and they’ll live in the huge cage together
I couldn’t imagine living in those cages!!
I have 2 females, ducky and Birdy, I have a 3x6 puppy playpen , a tunnel, a few toys, 3 hidey homes, 2 bowls, a hay bag, a litter box with hay, a hay bag, 2 bowls, and 2 water bottles
All the children in the comments clearly didn’t listen to anything you said, it’s like as soon as you said you don’t advocate for kids having guinea pigs they just stopped listening and only focused on that one part.
I knew it would happen but it must be done lol
@@AlyssaNPets lol True
i was just telling my friend (who also watches you) that i hope you would make another reaction video! lol, haven’t watched it yet but i am so excited! 😁
8:19 I put my guinea pig in a pet store cage when we got her and then we moved her to a c&c cage and she popcorns way more now that she gets tired from popcorning
It 100% depends on the parents. Some could be great with giving them what they need, taking them to the vet, making sure the kids do what they need to do for the animals. Some could be not great and not take them to the vet, not want the right size cages, not make sure the kid is doing a good job taking care of them, etc.
I'm glad you don't advocate for it, we have no idea what these kids parents are like!
And that outdoor hutch looked like a tv stand at quick glance. LOL ,Your WAYY WAY nicer than I would have beena bout half of these enclosures. Kudos to you Alyssa,
This is a great video, you are being nice but clear! I hope these people do something about their cages and you will be able to make a video of them doing better :)
Hi I am 12 but my mom always makes sure that the Guinea pigs are taken care of and surprises me with new stuff for them and she loves them
Jades cage was fantastic, but she could add another water bottle. Hope everyone takes what you said and incorporates it. My heart broke for that pig in the tub.
She uses water bottles and water bowls
My sister had 2 bunny's and a guinea pig, and she wasn't even close to taking care of them properly. My brother took them in, only knew what pellets to give them. He knew nothing about them. So the week they got them, I spent teaching them what to do, how to do it, and I spent so much time with mocha (gp) that he only came to me. The poor man had been cut because my sister was trying to cut his hair on her own, and both the rabbit and the guinea pig hadn't had their nails cut in months. We're still working on the cages (they have 2 Rottweilers and we're trying to keep everyone safe) but right now, they've started giving hay every day (something my sister used to give as a snack), vegetables every day, and they've had their water bottles changed to bigger bottles. I hate that my sisters don't know how to care for animals after having them for years. Mocha will be getting a new friend as soon as we get him a good sized cage, and Bonnie is def enjoying not being stuck in a cage all day
Hey Alyssa!I was just wondering how are your snails!?If there ok please can you make a video about them!
They are great.
@@AlyssaNPets is it ok if you could make and update?Ofc you don’t have to because I understand it takes a while to make x
I have a question is 2x6 big enough for 2 guinea pigs?
THATS AMAZING FOR 2 GUINEA PIGS!
Thank you so much!! You made me realize how much more space, hay and hides my Guinea pigs need!
