- How many times have you seen a band you like disband or go on hiatus?
No fan likes to receive this type of news, but it is something that sometimes happens.
So today, I selected some Japanese bands that unfortunately stopped their activities earlier than their fans would have liked.

I loved Stereopony ! 😢
They also did a concert together with Scandal !
2 great bands😪 at least Scandal is still active😅👊
Dazzle Vision 2003-2015 were probably one of the biggest bands to finish up just before this new wave of modern metal bands started. It's a shame they didn't last for a few more years.
🫡📝
If i did not misread, wagakki band will go on hiatus at the end of this year. I lived their mix of the newer instruments and elements with the traditional ones.
Thanks for the info🫡📝
beni 's solo album Is schedule ~this summer / September, she's working on it ,they go their own way now , maybe they 'll come back one day ,maybe not.. ,10 years together, they need a pause 🪕🎸
@@Made_by_Scar yeah. They've been going for 10 years straight they needed a rest.. short hiatus
Girlfriend were a very talented group of musicians, and lead singer Sakika is the elder sister of Suzuka from Atarashii Gakko.
I believe the drummer from Telecide ended up as the drummer in Bridear. Another band for you is Ganglion, sometimes written as GangLion. I think they lasted about 4 years with a few albums and EPs. The drummer is freelancing as a drummer and the vocalist/guitarist is doing arrangements for idol groups.
Yes, former Telecide drummer Natsumi plays for Bridear now
I really miss TELECiDE and Girlfriend... two of my favorite bands.
By the way, Natsumi, the former drummer of TELECiDE, has been the drummer of Bridear for a few years now.☺
For a second part it would be great to include Fern Planet, LoVendoЯ, Cyntia, Disqualia and my favorite girl band of all time... Mary's Blood.😔
I just started listening to Girlfriend now, and I really liked their songs!
🫡📝
Two of the members of Girlfriend reformed as Coco or CoX2, but now they're more techno pop. Bassist Mina has a UA-cam channel and just released her first solo song.

Thank you for this video. Brats are really awesome. For part 2 I suggest the band Galmet
I'm glad you liked it 👊 🫡📝
Great choice , I love Galmet...
I found a band that I hadn't heard of called The Winking Owl. I see their last album was 2019 and I was wondering what happened to them. I really like their music.
🫡📝
I liked The Winking Owl too. Good mention, I had almost forgotten them...
Their vocalist left the band in 2020 and the rest of the members announced going inactive soon after that
Thanks to include Secondwall, one of my favorite underrated band. For 2nd part I suggest The Winking Owl
Story of hope ! I'm so sad they disbanded
Akai Koen ended too soon, but very hard to come back when your guitarist and chief song writer ends her life (RIP Maisa Tsuno). Rick Rack/Elfin Planet/Fern Planet - they changed their name and drummer with each incarnation, and then lead singer/guitarist Serina just quit the music scene altogether. Plumolight.
Love BRATS such a shame they've gone. Rei and Aya are fantastic
Thank you for featuring 'Girlfriend' as one of the 'ended too soon' bands. I really, reaallly loved that band - and I kinda went into a mini depression when they broke up...i never cared much for commenting on stuff (or social media in general) prior to them breaking up..but the trauma of that event made me realise that voicing your support for bands you love, maybe could make a difference..maybe they would have stayed together if more people showed they cared...idk..anyways..this vid made me a bit sad, but it was well done as always! Thanks man. .
You are probably aware of it, but in case you're not - their bassist Mina released two MVs as a solo artist recently. I particularly love the second one, "Kimi ga ii ne shita".
Hey, yup, I'm very happy that Mina is pursuing a successful solo career - she was actually my favourite! She or at least her channel was inactive for a while, but she got back at it, to which I was overjoyed! So, yeh, thanks for that man ☺ 👍
@@skallagrimr_kveldulfssonSakika and Mirei became a duo. They were called CoCo but recently changed the name to Cox2. Nagisa just had a kid a month ago.
@@kevinrampersad9202 Thank you 👊 I'm glad you liked the video😁🫡
And yeah, you're completely right 😪
COx2 is fantastic. Very different from Girlfriend in many ways, but similar in having great songwriting and arrangement. Definitely go to their channel and support them if you like Girlfriend!
For me it was Lie and the Chameleon. And maybe Vivid Undress (they weren't my favourite, but they had a unique sound and talented members).
It's a real shame about Brats. Catchy, punchy rock with a strong vocal...they should have been much bigger. I know the singer (Rie? Rei? can never remember which) has gone back to do her idol thing. I hope that her and sister decide to give it another go.
Rei Kuromiya. I guess they wanted to reach more people with their last MV, Spiderweb. It is pretty ambitious and probably not as catchy as it needed to be to reach enough people to gain the traction that the band needed. I would also like to see them come back sooner or later.
@gungaddin. Couldn't agree more about Brats. Was saddened to hear of their decision to go on hiatus, but Rei seems to have been far too preoccupied with ReiRie activities rather than devoting an equal amount of time to Brats because while ReiRie may have a few good songs under their belt, musically I much prefer Rei's work within the context of Brats alongside sister Aya. However, Rei and Aya did indicate in a joint statement on their website that while they may have put the band on the backburner, the possibility of them returning to Brats isn't off the table.✌️❤️🤘
@skallagrimr_kveldulfsson . Rei is just too preoccupied with ReiRie, which is fine, though I'd have much preferred that Brats remained active. Had they been more visible across social media and played more shows post Covid, that may have generated more interest in the band's activities rather than shooting themselves in the foot by posting the Spiderweb MV and than not follow through with promotion which is a pity as it is such a banger. Fingers crossed for a comeback down the road.✌️🤘
I was listening to them today ironically. Rei is a very strong vocalist, and I hope her and Aya get back to it at some point.
Not a lot of follow up for members of the bands that called it a day. Mina of Girlfriend has her own channel on here, does lots of cover version bass tracks and has in the last week or so released a solo single. There seems to be so much fluidity on the Japanese music scene, with musicians being involved in several bands at once. Lovely if a little confusing!
Flip, really liked their music. Stereopony is still my all time favorite jband.
There’s a glimmer of hope for Stereopony. Aimi and Nohana played together for the first time since the breakup at a gig in Okinawa last July. No clue about the drummer.
I know of half the bands mentioned and until the end, thought it was all female bands. The Peggies name sounded familiar but took me awhile to recognize them until I heard the singer sing. I remember them from some anime song. The other 2 were Steropony and Brats.
I so miss Stereopony but for me there is also the Drop's, an all-female blues rock band from Sapporo, Hokkaido. They were together for 12 years until they went on hiatus in October 2021. Vocalist Nakano Miho is continuing on with her solo career. Guitarist Arya Tomomi and bassist Oda Mamiko officially joined the all-female rock band, THE STEPHANIES in April 2022. And Ishikawa Minako is a supporting drummer for the all-female rock band YAYUYO. It is unknown what keyboardist Ishibashi Wanako and original drummer Okuyama Reika are doing.
I said this in a reply below: any fans of Girlfriend who don’t already know about COx2 should check them out. Sakika and Mirei from Girlfriend are the only two members, but they’re producing music that’s richer and more fun than most bands with four or five musicians. Incredibly talented musicians and songwriters!
I really liked Rick Rack and then Fern Planet. Serina is great and it’s a shame neither band released a lot of songs.
A great band that is in longer active is Yuzukingdom, their lead singer, Yuzuki had an amazing clean voice and could scream like a beast
🫡📝
Absolutely... Great band and she ripped as a singer ..
The band Maria was promising. They formed in early 2000s by one of the founders of an all-girl band ZONE(the band also end up too soon).
I am sure I can think of more if I think a bit longer about it, but the first one that came to my mind is Mamadrive. I only discovered them after the split, but it was right after really getting into tricot and they remind me a bit of them even though they are still their own thing. I can personally use more bands like that. An other one, that should still be alive but who only have 500 subs or so, who remind me a bit of tricot is Tone Spoon. Let's hope they keep creating music and don't quit because of a lack of support or funds. It also sucks that DIH had to split because of a lack of funds if the Korean side also counts.
Edit: just thought of an other one, I would have loved for Greed Five Egg's to have stayed together a bit longer, but I believe their lead vocalist Fatima had to quit because of health issues so not much can be done about that if it's true.
Akai Ko-en was a band that I first dragged me into this wonderful world of J-Rock / J-Pop. Although they disbanded due to a death from what I understand.
Rami (ex-Aldious) had too short of a solo career. The one I miss the most is an In Flames-style meladeath band called Shadow. They released two brilliant albums before fading out.
ZONE (1997-2005) then (2011-2013)
their most favorite/popular song - Secret Base (Kimi ga kureta mono) released in 2001... and became kind of a theme for farewell/graduation ceremonies in Japan. the track later used in the anime- Anohana-2011 , titled- Secret Base, 10 years later! --- you can see their last live performance - "ZONE FINAL-2005" , which is heartbreaking 😭
video link -- ua-cam.com/video/RbRDgpbKpFU/v-deo.html -- last song (secret base), in ZONE FINAL
video link -- ua-cam.com/video/MPvjrVwXUgc/v-deo.html -- full concert, ZONE FINAL
For part two you need to include Ganglion, they took a hiatus due to their bass player being sick.

THE PINK☆PANDA, Blistar, EU PHORIA, LoVendoЯ, Disqualia, Albion, Aftermath, Zettai Club.
...and Heritage!
📝😁
Hearts Grow for part 2. I really like their sound and their vibe.
🫡📝
Flip, Lazy Guns Brisky, Destrose, Dazzle Vision.
📝🫡
Flip was the band that started me exploring the Japanese music scene.
Last I heard, Lazy Guns Brisky split because the singer was having heart problems.
One of the bands I liked were bleach and their brilliant album three girls from Okinawa. It’s hard to find anything about them, but I loved them
😁📝🫡
I was hoping She9 would be on this list. I really enjoyed their music but it's been more than a year since I've heard anything from them or about them.
Moonchild girl group ,And Dempagumi, other really low profile girl group are really talent, their music is so vibing.... it's so sad tho
I loved Stereopony!!
One of my favorite japanese band is the peggies,, YUHO KITASAWA is one of the best vocalist imo..
I have heard of some of these bands particularly Stereopony, Bratz, Girlfriend.
Mary's Blood and Disqualia. I would say Destrose but we got Lovebites, Mardelas and Fate Gear out of the end of Destrose and maybe some I'm forgetting.
Isn't one of the ladies from Lonesome Blue ex Destrose?
Mary's Blood were ex Destrose too.
@@mooglesmodelrailwaysNarumi, but she had to resign from the Lonesome Blue. They are continuing as a three piece.
Destrose members Mari, Eye, Niboshi and Eri were a founding member of Mary's Blood in 2009. Ex-Destrose Saki was not a founding member of Mary's Blood but later joined them in 2012.
Many people may not be aware of Destrose but they were a very important nexus for the all female Japanese metal bands.
@@ChuckJansenII exactly. Without Destrose we'd be missing a good few bands!
Telecide's bad luck was Bridear's good fortune. Natsumi is one of the best around.
I'll add Mary´s Blood and Hagane
Hagane is back though with a new line-up and an EP called "Life Goes On".
@skallagrimr_kveldulfsson . Hagane was merely on hiatus while Sakura and Sayaka went in search of worthy replacements for Kanako and Uyu, which they have since found in both Nagi and Junna
@josephenriquealvaradoardll2435. Hagane never disbanded. They spent the past year or so searching for worthy replacements for both Kanako and Uyu in the form of Nagi (Vocals) and Junna (Drums), formerly of Girl's Rock Band Kakumei (now Trident)
@@michaelhill4353 Junna sounded great already with GRBK. I got to see her live once with Fate Gear. Excellent drummer. Also love her playing on the new Hagane songs.
@@michaelhill4353 Well, i dont know, Hagane lose 3 of 5 members and I read that Sakura was recruited in a new project called D4DJ, but if the group goes on, fantastic.
Bridear may still be active but the Misa-Mitsuru era ended the original band; they are struggling to find their identity both musically and visually, although bass and voice are original members ..
Chai and The Tomboys recently disbanded this year.
Destrose, Ungrila, Necronomidol ,and Aldious. Yes I know Aldious is still active. Their lead vocalist has been a revolving door.
The band hasn't felt the same. Re:No even returned as a solo artist. Back to the list there's maybe more if I look at my backlog.
Ungrila never even got a chance. "Dai Mondai Emergency!!" or "大問題エマージェンシー!!" is awesome song listen to it thank me later.
Destrose was always stop and go. Necronomidol love their song "Ritual". Tsukishiro Himari gone solo as "Isiliel". She is now the only member.
I'm a huge fan of BRATS. Love to see a spotlight shine on them.
Also I just thought of another one to add to the list. FERN PLANET their song "ソルジャーガールズ" or "Soldier Girls" so good.
I'm gonna stop now I can keep going : D
📝🫡 thanks for the suggestions 👊😁
It's kind of sad about Necronomidol because they were one of very few idol groups who toured outside of Japan. They had great themes and a cool show. I'm glad that at least Isiliel carries on with their heritage.
@@venusgaijin No problem anyway I can help. I'm just a fan of Japanese rock scene. Channels like yours are far and few. To talk about the music we love so we can discuss and discover these bands together. Thank you for these awesome videos. Can't wait for the next one : D
@@skallagrimr_kveldulfsson Same. As a fan, as long as Isiliel is around I still hope Necronomidol will come back.
the band DROPS for part 2
📝
YES! They were awesome!
A question unrelated to the video.
Is there a way to communicate with others except the comment section? Something like a discord for example. I would love to chat with others about these topics but comment sections sometimes end too soon as well
This is a great idea😁 but do you have any suggestions?
@@venusgaijin in terms of topics or on how to get the community together?
Topics could range from anything like news, new songs / videos, to general talk or talk about shows the community attended.
For how to do it, many streamers / youtubers have a community discord. That could work here too. You could even add extra channels for your patreon supporters too. I dont know of other good ways to reall get the community to chat except use forums like reddit but there many bands already have their subforum.
I really loved The Peggies! I thought Rei Kuromiya of Brats said the band was still going, just on the backburner due to her ReiRie project? I may be wrong, but I hope we do hear more from them, they were awesome! However the band I miss the most is DROPS. I discovered them a few days after they split, and I was gutted lol!

Ironbunny??
📝🫡
Oh yes!! They were awesome. Those vocal harmonies. Never heard something like that again
Eddie responded to the founder of a Facebook group I’m on saying they are going to reform Ironbunny. This was a few weeks ago when Eddie sent the message.
Absolutely , reform with new songs but re release all the stuff from before on one CD , street strider and Hate a Fate would have been huge back in the day.... Hope they do , that would be phenomenal.
@rickychau7687.... That's great news , I hope he stays true and does come back....critically underrated . Talent up the bunny tail...Fk yes..
As for others, maybe Mary's Blood didn't "end too soon" but I'm sorry they ended (actually indefinite hiatus). Many other bands, including all-female units like Chai, Cyntia, Destrose, Disqualia, Zettai Club. I liked 21g, which Miyako, now of Lovebites, played in (only female member). She liked that band too: when they played their final show she said "Please don't ever forget that there once was a band called 21g." I suppose that as far as some of the various bands' members were concerned, their band didn't "end too soon" but rather at the right time, or maybe the band continued too long.
Speaking of Lovebites members, if you want to get rather obscure, Musekairon, which was a band Fami, Lovebites' bassist,, played in when she was in high school (they had a number of club gigs), though I think she has erased all mention of them on her twtr. They took down their vdos (about the time of the Lovebites bassist auditions) but there is fancam of them, but only from after Fami left the band, different bassist. Come to think of it, maybe Musekairon ended at the right time. Anyhow, the list of too-sooners is very long.
I wonder if there is a chance for Mary's Blood getting back together again after Saki parted ways with Nemophila.
I saw MB live many times, really like them, but I think it's unlikely they will play together again regularly, but maybe for a special occasion like an anniversary. The members are friends, so no personal relationship issues against some kind of one-off reunion.
@@skallagrimr_kveldulfsson From what I read, the hiatus was because they were dropped by their management company. No mention was ever made of Saki being stretched too thin so I don't know if Saki's wishes had anything to do with it but given how long they were together and the fact that these musicians all know each other and collaberate and fill in on each others shows, I doubt Saki would want to singlehandidly kill her friends chances to make money. Simple answer NO unless some management company takes them on. Who knows, these "reactors" are finally starting to look at more than Band Maid, Lovebites, Nemophila, Hanbie, and Baby Metal. Will that grow an interest in MB such that somebody is willing to take a chance?
@@Mark0003260 The problem with Mary's Blood is their record company / management take down their videos on YT. I used to pick videos for a reactor and wanted to show them March of the Death Queen and Coronation Day from "Live at Blitz" but those videos disappeared.
The demise of Destrose led to the birth of so many bands. I don't want to imagine a world without Lovebites...😢
Flip, Stereopony, and Girlfriend.
Oh come on. Destrose, Disqualia, Cyntia, Mary’s Blood…
📝😁
Am watching to see how Nemophila fares with Saki leaving
Sadly, A Crowd of Rebellion will soon go on indefinite hiatus...
Brats was Strong. Sadly they didnt keep the formula rolling.
I miss Brats.
Please dig up something on DoroDoro. Thanks. 🌸

Mary's blood, aldious, destroys,galmet.
Sterepony a sad story 😥😥 they can't wait for aimi to get healthy again they decided to break up 😭😭 what a big lost..they put out a lot of great singles in that short time
Don't forget about Raglaia (!!!)
1. Super Junky Monkey (singer self-terminated, but they were so damn good)
2. A Drop of Joker (a previous Miyako project, better than Lovebites in some ways)
3. Zettai Club (singer and drummer now in Saiseiga)
4. Mary's Blood (maybe get back together now that Saki is freed up?)
5. Disqualia (Narumi and Hazuki together. ooh-la-la)
6. Aldious (RE:NO/Marina lineup was the best)
Nobody's better than Lovebites.
Aldious still officially exist, don't they? Although not much has been heard about them recently ...
@@skallagrimr_kveldulfsson They haven't had a dedicated singer in years and now have no drummer. No new releases since 2020. The remaining three may not have officially thrown in the towel yet, but I'm not holding my breath til they return, as much as I hope they do.
@@ChrisPage68 I DID say "in some ways". LB has better overall musicianship with more polish and song complexity while ADOJ is way more original, raw, and diverse sounding
BRATS was my favorite but they were so unstable......such a shame because they had a great sound.
😪 true
Kiniko Teikoku
It's pretty sad that Telecide disbanded, because I really like their vocalist Aki ... as far as I know, she did not join a band after that.
Aki formed a new band and plays with Yoko the bassist from telecide. They are not super active but do shows here and there.

@@rickychau7687 Thank you very much! Unfortunately I can't find anything about them online. So I guess they only do small live performances?
