Interview: -YG: So, what is your particular style of guitar playing? -Matsuri: Since I play only one guitar, if I play too many detailed parts like lead playing, it sounds too dull live, so I consider the ratio of backing and single-note detailed phrases very carefully. I sometimes overlap them a little in sync, but it depends on the song. Basically, I play about 60 to 70% backing and 30 to 40% single-note phrases. -YG: I see! So, the so-called "metalcore-like" single-note riffs are also based on your golden ratio? -Matsuri: Yes, that's right. And for the chorus, I just played the chords to make it easier for me to sing. When the shouts were featured heavily and the bass guitar was following the root note, I would weave in phrases on the guitar side. I decide on the guitar part while keeping an eye on the balance of what the other instruments and the song are doing.
I've seen Babymetal, Nemophila, Lovebites, and Hanabie. I love every one of those bands. But far and away, Hanabie are the most interactive with their fans. Hettsu walks right out into the crowd every chance she gets, Yukina loves to stage dive. They encourage walls of death, mosh pits, and crowd surfers. Their vibe is much more punk than metal in their live performances. They are great entertainers. ❤
Thanks for this... I like the group and I liked learning their origin in 8 minutes :) I wish the clips could have been longer, but it's a minor concern :)
For the last 3 years Hanabie has been one of my absolute favorite Asian bands 🤘 ... and I'm a true "Metal Head"...FeMetal (Female Fronted Metal) is my favorite !!!
I remember that moment, when like early 2021 UA-cam's algorthm was like "Hey, we have a band you might like." it was "We like sweets". Damn, what a banger. Then we Europeans had to wait for two years until 2023 when Hanabie came to a sold out show in Europe, they even had to switch venues, because so many people wanted to see them (okay, we're not talking about the venues with 1000+ capacity, but switching from like 400 to 500 is a huge sucess). I was at the show at the Nachtleben in Frankfurt and hands down: one of the best shows I've ever attended! I was "lucky" to be one of the first 100 people (there were like around 220 at the more than sold out venue, so that easy peasy) to buy merch, so that I could see them after the show and got my shirt signed :) They're absolut fantastic.
I never understood why nothing bigger was sought in Frankfurt. When I bought my ticket shortly after the tour was announced, the saleswoman said “you are lucky, there are only 14 tickets left” (da haben sie aber Schwein gehabt, vierzehn gibt´s noch), and that was two months before the concert. Anyway, I was down there in the basement in the loudest sauna in Frankfurt and it was great. This year I was in Hamburg among 1000 people and meet and greet before the concert was too nice.
They're outstanding live, just endless energy. Saw them for the first time on their first stop of the NA tour back in May, and I just can't get enough. Now I'll see them again on their first stop of their tour supporting JINJER in September. Just counting down the days. I never get tired of their songs. GIVE ME MORE!
Very happy for HanabiE very deserving of the major label contract that allowed them to tour the "world" and get internationally recognized (tiktok can also take credit) Personally think Cherry Blossoms is still there best cd. also impressive they wrote it while still attending high school. There live show even then was insanely good. Nemophila IMO still #1 female J-rock/metal band. There 1st release as 4 piece & without Kensuke Akiyama (composure & producer) showed there back just as hard & brutal
A very talented band. Not my style, I don't like metalcore and so, but I feel they know how to create fresh songs without the need of trying to be superoriginal, just doing well what they like to do.
I have been following the Hanabies since 2020. They have had an incredible musical evolution and deserve the success they are achieving. You never know what style they will adopt for the next single, sometimes heavier, sometimes more electronic, and sometimes more Kawaii (a few times). One thing is for sure: they are formidable live!!!
Hanabie = Harajukucore = 🔥🔥🔥🔥 I've loved this band since "We Love Sweets" confused me into becoming addicted. I found them when they released envy but slept on them far too long. I think they're the most interesting band of the genre and they put on a fantastic live show. They may not play virtuoso style, like LOVEBITES or Band-Maid, but they have the energy and ingenuity to rise to the top nonetheless.
Interview: - There are various types of songs on the album, some of them are heavy mixed music featuring rap, while "Sunrise Miso Soup," "Sentimental Heroine," and "Invisible Wall" have a good hook with a hardcore-like running part. Is "speed" an important element for you? - Matsuri:Yes. I don't think too many songs are too fast, but most of the songs have a tempo (BPM) of 160 to 200. Maybe it is because I was a punk fan, but I wanted to create songs with a line that would raise everyone's spirits... If you look up the tempo of hit songs in this genre and the tempo that people find comfortable when listening to them while running, you will find many articles about that kind of music. I make songs while researching such things and thinking that it would be nice to have a song with a BPM of over 200.
I love this band! They are my favorite band right now. I've seen them twice at two sold out shows. One in Des Moines, IA. And then in Chicago for an after Lollapalooza show. Both were awesome shows! I'm selfish in that I want them to continue to play place small and more intimate shows. But would also love to see them explode more and get everything they want.
Harsh vocals were never my thing until I started listening to Nemophila. I have not listened to a lot of Hanabie yet,but most of my Japanese music enthusiasts friends are recommending them to me. Some of them have seen them in concert and got the VIP tickets, and were able to meet them and said they are some of the nicest people.
ok, so, this may sound kinda weird, but, on paper, Hanabie has everything I love in a J-metal band: high energy, brutal riffs, harsh vocals, melodic vocals, melodic instrumental stuff..and tons of originality and eclecticism...whew...but..I'm still not really a hugee fan of the band tho...however..I'm thinking experiencing just one live concert could change all that! So, yes, super great band by all standards! And yes, I have my BIG THREE: Band-Maid, Nemophila and Lovebites, but place number FOUR, for me, is just loaded with tons of super awesome and talented J-Rock/Metal/Alternative/Jazz/Pop bands of all stripes mann...more power to everyone with their favourites - keep 'em coming I say!!! Great exposition on this awesome band!👍
They are one of my favourite japanese Bands. Are they the most outstanding in 2024? I still think they have to share this title with AG, who also gained a lot of international popularity this year.
I never think in terms of "the best .... band". Music is not sports. Luckily, because if there's one thing I hate, it's competition. I do love the japanese scene, as there are so many women active. In the west music is dominated by men, and a minority of women, generally chosen for their looks, not their music. There were always great bands coming from Japan, like The Stalin, and some later Acute. And the awesome all girl band The Gaia. The modern bands like Maximum the Hormone, Babymetal and Hanabie are just a few of a great country with great music.
For us, Hanabie is already the world’s top girl band. No other girl band can hold a candle to them, not Lovebites, not Band Maid, not The Warning or any other. The next really big boost in popularity will probably come when Hanabie play at the biggest metal festivals like Wacken next year and are not relegated to the smallest side stage and only get a very short playing time. Hanabie is taking over the world and no one will stop them.
Hanabie. came out at the perfect era of modern hardcore/metal. That's why easy for them to get new fans of all ages. Poor Lovebites that has to stick playing traditional metal, most of the fans are older guys that loves 80s/90s era of metal which is not so popular anymore. That's why it's so hard for them to book bigger venue when they toured in Europe/US comparing to hanabie. Interesting fact that Lovebites is well known in Japan compare to hanabie., play bigger hall, bigger team production bcs power metal is still big thing in Japan. Meanwhile hanabie. still playing in pubs and bars along with the japanese hardcore scene bands. Hanabie. is more popular overseas than in their homeland.
I caught BAND-MAID last August. I get some HANABIE. next month. There's no displacing BAND-MAID for me, but enjoying these bands is like having two utterly different wonderful things to enjoy. This was a great little documentary.
Started with Band-Maid as personal fav but ended up with Nemophila and Hanabie...but really it's just preference and what I am in the mood for. Love all these J-Rock/Metal bands and many more. Funny thing is I never really liked harsh vocals until Mayu and Yukina came along 🤷♂

I hope so too!😁🤘🔥

They have a rare thing - a maniacal charm

Seen them in ohio sept 28.. AMAZING live band. FAN FOR LIFE
