My problem is that I buy too many ebooks and never get to the physical books on my shelves! Constant struggle! Perfume is a great book, quite underappreciated in my opinion. Also considering that you love complex villains you might really enjoy it!
Glad you loved Perfume, and *le sigh* to ebooks: I love reading them but I mainly read them as library loans because when I buy ebooks, I don't feel like I "own" them the same way I do when I see them on my shelves.
The Wizard of Oz is suppose to be symbolic of American society in the 1900s. going to the emerald city is the desire for money (as a bill is green). The "ruby" slippers were changed from silver in the book with represents the invention of steel and the industrial revolution, etc, etc. its really interesting if you look at it in that aspect. have fun reading!
I purchased The World of Ice and Fire yesterday and I am sooo excited!! I am rereading the ASOIAF series as well at the moment. Obsessing over everything related to ASOIAF/ Game of Thrones is my only plan for now because I don't do TBRs :D
I love this mentality, I am also trying to browse my own shelfs and read what I already own. I bought those books for a reason and was excited about them. So far I have only bought maybe three-isch books this year, and I work in a book store! Also your voice and presence is so calming and relaxing. Intelligence is so refreshing! ❤
Thank you so much, Ashley. Ahh, you get to surround yourself by bookstore-smell every day. Nice! When I was at university, I had a part-time job as a librarian, and it was sooo difficult to finish tasks on time because I was always browsing the books I was supposed to be shelving.
I been meaning to get to: The Daughter of Smoke and Bone Series- I've always been intrigued but never got a chance to get started The Underground Railroad- I haven't been in the mood for a slave narrative recently but it's still something I really want to get to this year The Fire Next Time - Been meaning to read something of Bladwin's for years but I haven't been in the "mood" yet. The Grisha Trilogy - I read Six of Crows and didn't really feel the same way everyone else felt so I wanna start from the beginning like I should've in the first place and see if I get a different reaction A Conjuring of Light - I always feel so accomplished when I complete a series but I really been dragging my feet with this one because I don't want it to end. Great video btw.
Usually, I don't buy books in bulk. So if I buy a physical book I will start reading it that same day. If I can't start the book the same day I get pretty cranky lol.
I was so obsessed with the land of Oz growing up! I've only read the first book, but I've watched the Judy Garland movie probably 500 times! You're probably the first person I've come across who has seen Return to Oz and oh my goodness those wheelers gave me nightmares for days! So yes, I definitely get the creepy fairyland vibe that Oz has.
Perfume is INCREDIBLE. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it. I just finished Strange the Dreamer, received it from a publisher in exchange for an honest review - I enjoyed it A LOT more than I thought I would. The writing is absolutely beautiful!!! Nightfilm is on my list too!!
The sea of tranquility is my favourite book ever! So well written and such a beautiful story. Enjoy! I'm almost a little jealous you get to read it for the first time haha
You might consider adding The Untethered Soul, it is an amazing read! Have you considered adding audiobooks to your book regime? I have been gaining so much by listening to books during the work week.
I have 4 books that I bought about a month ago and still have yet to read them. It sucks because I'm taking summer classes, so I have to wait until August (the couple of weeks before classes start again) to try to read at least a couple of them. Waaaaah! Love you, A!
FanGirl was good. I listened to the audiobook. I agree there is always a part of me that does not want to know too much going into the book. It kind of ruins the beauty of the read....the journey through the pages
Lol you're hilarious. I loved Night Film. It's super weird. Like weird weird but probably not as strange as Perfume. I'd love to read Strange the Dreamer and I had always thought no to Sea of Tranquility until this video!
I loved the Night Circus, and Strange the Dreamer. You are talking my language... I cancelled a book subscription box so I could read the books I already have, and since then I went to BookCon, took home 9 free books, then accidentally won a book bundle giveaway, and then an Indie publisher liked a photo of their book I posted on Instagram so they asked for my address to send me free books. I am ending up with more books than I did when I was purchasing them. It's out of control haha.
I loved The Night Circus a lot. Perfume was a very unique book with beautiful writing. I absolutely loved it, but the end is so freaking super weird. It just seemed like he took a beautiful book and made a joke out of it. It is definitely worth reading, though!
I loved Strange the Dreamer but I love Laini Taylor so I'm biased. I also enjoyed Fangirl too. Night Circus has been on my shelf for a while and it's my goal to read The Sun is Also a Star this month.
I've been meaning to read something by Zadie Smith too. I've had White Teeth, On Beauty, and Swing Time on my TBR for a while, but I just haven't been in the mood. I've also been wanting to read something by Kazuo Ishiguro. I loved Never Let Me Go, and haven't been able to decide what to read next.
I recently bought Into The Water by Paula Hawkins and Crimes Against a Bookclub (for my bookclub, ha) and want to make sure I finish The Wise Mans Fear by Patrick Rothfuss sometime this year - I've started it and it's sooo good but looong
Love love love your personality and your videos. I really want to read Strange the Dreamer. Read the Night Circus and loved it but I agree that it is slow and it takes a little while to really get into.
I hope you love The Night Circus. I really enjoyed it when I first read it but then I LOVED it on second read. I'm not sure if it's a mood thing of if it's just one of those books that grows and grows on you, especially because it's got such a deep and rich setting. Strange the Dreamer and Night Film are also on my list. I love Laini Taylor's trilogy and her writing is definitely real fluffy, but it's my thing. And I started Night Film and just couldn't get into it. But so many people love it, I'm definitely going to try again.
Nice to know Night Circus is a rich read that gets better on the reread (I'm hoping Americanah goes that way for me). I wonder what Erin Morgenstern is working on next 🤔 (says the girl who hasn't even read The Night Circus lol). I hear Strange the Dreamer is quite slow, but I'm hoping that, for me anyway, it's a delicious kind of slow.
I read Sarah J Maas books because of your Heir of Fire recommendation. Thank you! So in love with her series, both of them. Read A court of thorns and roses if you havent
I can't believe that I've not read Fangirl either. I've heard it's amazing from lots of amazing people. I need to try the Oz series again. Return to Oz is such a good movie. Perfume is AMAZING. I love the idea for this video, might have to do something similar.
+SavidgeReads Return to Oz gave me bigtime dark, magical feels. I hope you do the video; it's so much fun to HAVE to choose from your own shelves when making the list. 😊
Me it would be -City of Heavenly Fire -Retribution of Mara Dyer -The Martian -Shanara Chronicles -All the Bright Places -The Silver Eyes -Lemony Snicket Autobiography -Aristotle and Dante -Dorothy Must Die Stories -On Writing
I just need something to read. Sorry Amerie, I thought Shipbreaker was just okay and I didn't like Six Crows you recommended me way back when. I haven't liked any book though since 2014. There has to be something out there for me.
There's a movie based on the perfume book and it looks beautiful; I've wanted to read the book and watch the movie for a long time...but I feel conflicted about it for some reason. But they haunt me.
Loved this! Excited to hear what you think re: WHITE TEETH, PACHINKO x GOLDFINCH. really good books! ^_^ Some of my top pre-owned book reads would have to include A BRIEF HISTORY OF SEVEN KILLINGS, THE SYMPATHIZER x 1Q84.
Hi Amerie I'm creasha I just wanna say I'm a huge fan of yours. you are so beautiful I love your songs and I wanted to ask have you ever read the novel "Maximum ride " by James Patterson ? It's a really amazing novel ^^
It's very character-based, more so than The Girl on the Train, which was probably evenly split between character and plot. Lots of interweaving of a small group of people who have plenty of secrets, lots of character study. This means the story unwinds quite slowly, BUT it was also very intriguing. I still can't say which I liked best, but I definitely recommend reading it if you enjoyed her first book and if you are okay with a slow-burn plot. Hope that helps! :)
Peace Ameriie, Good to see other book readers on this channel. Here's my next 10: African Philosophy by Theophile Obenga Sacred Science by R.A. Schwaller De Lubicz MAAT by Maulana Karenga Seeking the Sakhu by Wade Nobles The Rodale Herb Book by J.I Rodale The Black Jacobins by CLR James Dark Light Consciousness by Edward Bynum The Black presence in the Bible by Walter McCray Hermetic Science of Motion & Number by A.S Raleigh Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison I might switch out a few lol.. You know how that goes.
I've been meaning to get to The Heart Goes Last by Margaret Atwood for so long- she's my favourite author and always puts like a realistic dystopian spin on her crazy stories! Perfume is one of my favs! So weird and creepy but good at the same time! Would love to one day hear what you think of it!
"no matter what.. i keep buying books" relatable
Hey Ameriie,if there is 1 THING i'm gonna do,it will be to read these books, thanks
:D
@@Amerie. how can you read 40 to 50 books when they is only 52 weeks in a year. I don't believe you. U told a lie 😣

I took me years not to want to buy something every week. But I think I have mastered my will somewhat. Booksmell is still amazing though.
Books Beauty Ameriie same!

Ah, so great to hear that you loved it. Makes me even more excited!
It's my favorite book too! :D So beautiful. The last sentence made me sob!!!
Such a special story! ❤ Im waiting for the day Katja Millay writes another book!!
You might consider adding The Untethered Soul, it is an amazing read! Have you considered adding audiobooks to your book regime? I have been gaining so much by listening to books during the work week.
Oh Perfume is a pretty good book and such a wonderful execution on the theme on smell.

Omg Night Film is amazing! I talk about it in my May Book Haul, I could barely contain my excitement! Loved it! 🤗😄

Ooh I definitely want to read Strange the Dreamer!
+Kelli Marissa it's supposed to be a slow burn and very lush, and I love everything Lainey Taylor has said about it!
Thanks for the suggestions, I luv books and will be checking a few out of the library.
YES!!! The Night Circus! You are going to love it! :)
I totally get that brand new book glee - I want to read Strange the Dreamer too! Hope you like it!
I loved The Night Circus a lot. Perfume was a very unique book with beautiful writing. I absolutely loved it, but the end is so freaking super weird. It just seemed like he took a beautiful book and made a joke out of it. It is definitely worth reading, though!
Hi Ameriie, thank you so much for these great books- gotta check the library!
The Night Circus is on my Top 15 to read in 2017 as well
oooh ive been wanting to read Night Film for awhile now!
I loved Strange the Dreamer but I love Laini Taylor so I'm biased. I also enjoyed Fangirl too. Night Circus has been on my shelf for a while and it's my goal to read The Sun is Also a Star this month.

I read the Perfume years ago for my German class in its original language, and we watched the adaptation (which is in English.. also Ben Whishaw
LOVE YOUR VIDS! always keeping my TBR list growing; thanks for that. I think i'm gonna pick up Goldfinch next. I keep seeing it around.
Thank you! :)
Wow, I read Perfume (I think back in the 80's), excellent choice. The movie really didn't do it much justice. Enjoy!
I read Sarah J Maas books because of your Heir of Fire recommendation. Thank you! So in love with her series, both of them. Read A court of thorns and roses if you havent
Yay! You're so welcome, and thanks for the suggestion.
I am really looking forward to reading The Child Thief by Brom!!! a dark peter pan retelling
I can't believe that I've not read Fangirl either. I've heard it's amazing from lots of amazing people. I need to try the Oz series again. Return to Oz is such a good movie. Perfume is AMAZING. I love the idea for this video, might have to do something similar.

Right. Done deal. I shall film it for sometime in the first week of July. I shall play shop my shelves this weekend.

I've had an ARC of Sea of Tranquility for so long now and just have never picked it up... I hope you love it!
+Jay G I have friends who LOVED it--it's a shame that it's been sitting on my shelves for so long!

I was telling my brother how the wizard of oz is a phenomenal book. It's on my list.
God I love a a beautiful strong inspirational female artist like you Amerie, your style, your novels and your channel 💖😍😘
Night Circus kind of sucked. It had too many plot holes for my taste.
I'm reading "A people's history of America" interesting book.
Did You read Paula Hawkins new book yet? If so, how is it?
It's very character-based, more so than The Girl on the Train, which was probably evenly split between character and plot. Lots of interweaving of a small group of people who have plenty of secrets, lots of character study. This means the story unwinds quite slowly, BUT it was also very intriguing. I still can't say which I liked best, but I definitely recommend reading it if you enjoyed her first book and if you are okay with a slow-burn plot. Hope that helps! :)
Books Beauty Ameriie Yes it helped and thank You. I want the book because of You, so thank You.
