Lenny’s not dangerous these people in the books just didn’t know how to talk to him I was raised with disabled people, mentally and physically, he’s obviously a innocent fellow with a big strength Not his fault If he grabbed my dress I’d probably just ask him what he was doing or just do nothing, unless he grabbed my legs or something not scream, screaming would only scare him When curlys wife , said her hair was soft and asked Lenny to touch, she should have been nicer and careful she got mean and jerked her head which scared him she yelled even more which made him angry, and in my opinion she shouldn’t have asked him at all, it would have only caused problems She wasn’t smart and that was her end They also should have gotten him a older dog and taught him to be more gentle George should have taught Lenny to be gentle from the beginning, to be as gentle as possible Some may say it’s Lenny’s fault but.... he’s special, he wasn’t taught, of CORSE he should be punished for these things that he did And I do understand why George had to kill Lenny, at least it was somebody Lenny loved And not being hanged
Like your not wrong but, in a different sense your not completely right either. Don't get me wrong you're right in you saying that the issue's could've been handled better, but when you consider the people present and the setting (including the time period) what your saying would make the book inaccurate in the sense that due to all of these factor's, having him be treated in the way he should've would've been inaccurate, with the exception of the teaching him to be more gentle that I believe is plausible. It just doesn't fit George's character well to be that kind of a mentor to him, in a way that would 100% cement that idea in his brain, since even George himself is not able to completely control himself when it comes to his anger. And for why he he "had to" kill him himself, it's a reference to Candy's dog. That being the line "I should've done it myself, not some stranger" because ultimately it would've been better to send him off like that in his mind, in a more humane way then him being shot in the gut by curly. Also this is more skeptical, but one could argue that it's also his way of taking responsibility for his failed job to look after him/teach him, and that he should have to carry that burden by also making himself the one responsible for "fixing" the problem.
I think you've got a God-presective biased in this case. You understand everything in the story and have life experience. If you, among people you know and understand, were touched of course you wouldn't react. This girl was out and about minding her own business when someone snuck up behind her, crouched down, yanked up her dress and wouldn't let her go. Screaming and begging for help, the total stranger just stood there exposing her hidden bits for the world to see while ordering her to keep quiet and just let him. She wouldn't know as he was feeling her up that he only wanted her clothes. She wouldn't know that it was her reacting to being molested that made him clutch her and refuse to let go. She wouldn't know that the skirt of her dress was in the air just because he's taller than her and standing. All she knew was that while out shopping a pervert grabbed her and exposed her then refused to let her go. It wasn't her fault. And is the best reaction for survival when attacked on the street. Consider this: His problem isn't being soft. It's his violent reaction to any form of "no" or "stop" Even the idea of the cat meaning no rabbit resulted in him relishing the idea of breaking in the cat's head. He pet the circus bunny with no problem at all. He pet the mice up until they nipped at him, when he would systematically crush their skulls, knowing what it ment to do so. No matter how many times his mother, then aunt, then George kept trying to teach him to be soft. He also pet all the pups for two days and played with them all carefully. So carefully that mamma dog wasn't even worried. (Lucky for her) Consider these were newborns. No teeth, closed eyes, barely, if able to crawl. Likely the newborn yahwned or was looking for milk. But lenny interpreted this as "making like it would bite". Lenny thought the pup was telling him no/stop. When readying to strike the blind newborn, it opened its entirely toothless mouth again... so Lenny crushed its skull. The exact way he kills the mice and the imaginary cat. Lenny realised the dead puppy means no rabbit so he smashed the newborn corpse up against the wall. Unwillingly he defended himself, but in being told to stop he crushed a man's hand instead while protesting. His only problem ever arises when he's told no or stop. Hussy couldn't have possibly known that "no" means violence and if repeated, death. She offered her hair softly, asked him to be careful, and to be soft. Let him know what was going wrong then finally told him to stop. Ofcourse she got angry at the guy ignoring her requests while he was rubbing her and moaning with pleasure. It wasn't mean to finally tell him to stop and pull away her hair. And when her hair was yanked she cried out, as normal. The problem was he suffocated her to make her stop screaming, while blaming her. When she was finally able to breathe she was still in pain and terrified so she wasn't quiet enough. So he blamed her for the risk of no rabbits and broke her neck. Lenny is very dangerous when anyone outside of George tells him no or stop, and is still mildly dangerous then. He uses his size to control other smaller things and breaks their skulls if that doesn't work
Personally. I think all of this could have been avoided with a raccoon skin hat or a couple rawhide bones and many tightly bundled miscellaneous furs. Had someone made Lenny a bunny toy he would have had a place to go with something that he could cuddle, squeeze and pet as hard as he needed to for comfort and pleasure. When he stops shredding the toys or hats and when he stops murdering animals for trying to stop him maybe he could have something else. He'd look ridiculous but I'd bet it would have ended much better

I'm here because someone elsewhere said this book was about Dust Bowl immigrants and I didn't think so. Having never read it I thought maybe I should learn what I'm talking about. In context I was right; he was talking about Grapes of Wrath.
I just ran across it. I've seen a coupla or three film adaptations -- might have even read the book decades ago. But I have never been so deeply moved by this classic -- hats off to the narrator. And of course to John Steinbeck. I had just finished a three-day listen of Stephen King's "The Green Mile" when I began "Of Mice and Men," which I finished in one afternoon. "The Green Mile" was quite enjoyable, but when I started Steinbeck, I felt like I had stepped into an open meadow after days of whacking through a dense jungle with a machete. I guess that's the distinction between a good writer and a great one.
In the first paragraph, Steinbeck uses adverbs and adjectives to convey exactly how the nature is in that point of time. Some examples would be: “deep,” and “green.” The use of these two words together show how the water in the river is moving, “running” if you will... if you won't, for any reason, that’s ok too. In the next sentence, Steinbeck uses the adjectives: “warm” and “yellow” separately, using warm to express how the water’s temperature is, ie. It could be cold, but it is not, it is warm, not hot, not room temperature, but warm. Meanwhile using “yellow” to describe how the sand is, it is not green, blue, red, orange, purple, pink, brown, black, white, grey, silver, or bronze, it is yellow!
The effect of this is to make the reader truly feel that they have accomplished something and now they have some new knowledge about how the water moves, what its temperature is like, and how the colour sand it ran across was like.
ok. this is a nice analysis, you’ve got the basic points right. however, you use lots of unnecessary phrases/ words and it’s obvious you’re trying to make your word count higher. for example; you don’t have to list all the colours - that’s irrelevant as you’ve already used the quote “yellow”. similarly, the tangent about the temperature is pointless when you’ve used already the quote to describe it. also “if you will... if you won’t for any reason, that’s ok too.” what? that doesn’t make sense and you don’t need to say that. furthermore, you’ve quoted the word “running” but that word wasn’t used, it was “runs” i don’t want to be rude but the whole part about it the effect on the reader makes no sense. to be honest, where you’ve used so many words, i can’t really tell what you’re trying to say. i’m really sorry and i know this is harsh but i felt like i had to say something.
a different way of analysing it would be: in the first paragraph, steinbeck uses adverbs and adjectives to convey the liveliness of nature. This is done through describing the river as “deep and “green”. combined with the verb “runs” this makes the river feel alive as “green” is associated with life and “runs” shows it’s moving quickly. furthermore, the sand is described as “yellow” which has connotations of being energetic and happy. This pathetic fallacy makes the reader feel excited, as the river is being shown as alive and compelling, setting up the rest of the book.
Thankyou so much! I could imagine the whole story in my head like watching a movie. I love how you make the voices distinctive from one another for each character and the tone too!
I love Steinbeck. Maybe having to analyse stuff to a deadline kills some of the magic of it but if kids can't appreciate on some level what an amazing story and set of characters they've got here, then there's something wrong with them.
The old man and his old dog was really sad, too. I think Steinbeck might have been drawing a parallel between that dog and Lennie. And the whole theme of people with big dreams always just beyond their reach is soul-shattering.
Only a handful of readers ever impressed me.. This ok boy reading is for sure one of the best. It was my pleasure and. A True delight to listen to this man do his craft. Thank you .... 😎

thank you so much, i had a report due on this today and i didnt read it, set is x2 speed, finished listening in 2 hours, and turned in the report on time!
I'd listen to George Guidall recite the alphabet. He's the GOAT. But to listen to him read Of Mice and Men is without comparison, the most memorable narration of all time.
Here is a useful tip: Turn it up to x1.25, it will be quick at first, but will get slower in a minute or so. Then turn it up to x1.5, also will be quick at first but will get slower in a little over a minute. And then I get to x1.75, which eventually becomes the perfect speed!
Idkwhat made me think about this book but back when I was a sophomore in high school in 07 or 08 I was listening to this book on tape in my high school English class and just died laughing at this guy's southern accent. I was laughing so hard and uncontrollably that the teacher thought I was on drugs. I probably hit the bong that morning, but it wasn't the green that had me laughing that day. good times
3:18:38 we scared our teacher because the way he said "I've done a bad thing" was funny and she was concerned because she's never had any students laugh at the death scene before: quick note it was practically all of us
I have to write an essay about the book, but whenever we read it in class I always fell asleep. Here I am. Edit: i never paid attention in class but finished the essay first and passed sooo moral of the story, fall asleep in class kids. At least you can dream about the lesson

Lenny’s not dangerous
these people in the books just didn’t know how to talk to him
I was raised with disabled people, mentally and physically, he’s obviously a innocent fellow with a big strength
Not his fault
If he grabbed my dress I’d probably just ask him what he was doing or just do nothing, unless he grabbed my legs or something
not scream, screaming would only scare him
When curlys wife , said her hair was soft and asked Lenny to touch, she should have been nicer and careful she got mean and jerked her head which scared him she yelled even more which made him angry, and in my opinion she shouldn’t have asked him at all, it would have only caused problems
She wasn’t smart and that was her end
They also should have gotten him a older dog and taught him to be more gentle
George should have taught Lenny to be gentle from the beginning, to be as gentle as possible
Some may say it’s Lenny’s fault but.... he’s special, he wasn’t taught, of CORSE he should be punished for these things that he did
And I do understand why George had to kill Lenny, at least it was somebody Lenny loved
And not being hanged
Consider this:
His problem isn't being soft. It's his violent reaction to any form of "no" or "stop"
Even the idea of the cat meaning no rabbit resulted in him relishing the idea of breaking in the cat's head.
(Lucky for her)
Consider these were newborns.
Learn how to spell and this book is based off of old shit, so yea nobody knew how to treat him.
This is an audiobook of mice and men

Lol anyone here just because it’s a classic book and wanted to hear it.

@@leiph english. somehow i know i speak english but sometimes i just think and wonder where da hell ppl get these from
ok. this is a nice analysis, you’ve got the basic points right. however, you use lots of unnecessary phrases/ words and it’s obvious you’re trying to make your word count higher. for example; you don’t have to list all the colours - that’s irrelevant as you’ve already used the quote “yellow”. similarly, the tangent about the temperature is pointless when you’ve used already the quote to describe it. also “if you will... if you won’t for any reason, that’s ok too.” what? that doesn’t make sense and you don’t need to say that. furthermore, you’ve quoted the word “running” but that word wasn’t used, it was “runs” i don’t want to be rude but the whole part about it the effect on the reader makes no sense. to be honest, where you’ve used so many words, i can’t really tell what you’re trying to say. i’m really sorry and i know this is harsh but i felt like i had to say something.
a different way of analysing it would be: in the first paragraph, steinbeck uses adverbs and adjectives to convey the liveliness of nature.
I love how you make the voices distinctive from one another for each character and the tone too!

the ending 🥺😞😫😖😢😭
I love Steinbeck. Maybe having to analyse stuff to a deadline kills some of the magic of it but if kids can't appreciate on some level what an amazing story and set of characters they've got here, then there's something wrong with them.
The ending is so sad....poor Lennie😥
@@williamthurman2706 o{oooooo
Poor George
It’s better then being hanged in front of everyone
And at least he was killed by a loved one
The old man and his old dog was really sad, too. I think Steinbeck might have been drawing a parallel between that dog and Lennie. And the whole theme of people with big dreams always just beyond their reach is soul-shattering.
This video is like a textbook and each year it's passed down to new kids who write in the comment section.

I'd listen to George Guidall recite the alphabet. He's the GOAT. But to listen to him read Of Mice and Men is without comparison, the most memorable narration of all time.
Here is a useful tip:
Turn it up to x1.25, it will be quick at first, but will get slower in a minute or so.
Then turn it up to x1.5, also will be quick at first but will get slower in a little over a minute.
And then I get to x1.75, which eventually becomes the perfect speed!
Your doing good work
You crazy bastard!
It works though! Thank you 😁
Then later move it up to 2x if u want to get ur work done in time

Idkwhat made me think about this book but back when I was a sophomore in high school in 07 or 08 I was listening to this book on tape in my high school English class and just died laughing at this guy's southern accent. I was laughing so hard and uncontrollably that the teacher thought I was on drugs. I probably hit the bong that morning, but it wasn't the green that had me laughing that day. good times
This was wonderfully, and accurately narrated. One would feel to be living within the pages, as it is read.
