She sang absolutely brilliantly as a child and teenager but then she got a record deal and they didn't allow her to develop her voice at all, instead they insisted that she concentrate on being "sexy" and so she lost confidence in her voice because she was out of practice. It's a shame, because she is so talented.
Britney can sing and has always been able to. She has a rich beautiful deep voice like Christina Aguilera, but her record label Jive forced her to do that baby nasal voice - which is extremely straining and painful - and difficult/painful to maintain in live performances, hence why she has to lip sync - you can hear the pain in her voice. I feel so bad because she truly has such a beautiful voice but she hasn’t been allowed to showcase it and has caused damage to it while trying to suppress it

First don't compare Britneys singing ability to Christina because that's just laughable and Britney would be the first one to tell you that. Second, no one "forced" her to use the baby voice. For one thing she's not the one who does it. It's Studio Effects and trickery combined with Autotune. It was the only way to make her voice even remotely listenable because.... i dont think her real voice is totally gone. she uses it in perfume & some songs on glory. she used it when she sang lets give them something 2 talk about in vegas & when she sang happy birthday 2 her friend jacob in singapore too

I remember being four years old and going up on the pool table and singing her songs in the middle of my parents party. In first grade, I finally got to go to her concert, and I was so excited. Videos like this remind me why she made me want to be a singer.
I definitely believe the theory that her record label made her change her voice or speeds up her recordings to give it more of a pop sound. She has such and strong and hearty voice when she just goes for it. And when she does try to do the "britney sound" live it sounds like it really strains her.
