As an American, I think the most iconic cultural thing in my fridge is an amalgamation of all the other countries' food items; I have Irish butter, French mustard, Italian salami, Mexican salsa, German beer, and Indian chutneys. 😂
Oh my goodness! Me too! Thank you for sharing your perspective on this. 😊
I agree with this. Ketchup was the only item listed by the Americans in the video that I had in my fridge and was thinking I must not be a real American until they mentioned it.
Love that!
Hehe, American here with tzatziki and hummus always on hand
yup this
I would love to see a video about what people pack for work lunch. I would also like to see a video of what people eat post pregnancy.
As always, another amazing video.
+1 for the work lunch!
Work lunch episode!!! I work from home now but always always brought my own lunch from home for all the years prior when I worked outside the house.
What a great idea.
Loved both ideas!
Love these ideas!
The cookbook shelf behind the Irish gentleman made me think how fun it would be to take a cookbook shelf tour . I also loved that not everyone’s kitchen is magazine shoot ready ( mine seldom is) and that I am not the only person who gets anxious when I run low on certain things in my kitchen. A pantry tour would be fun too
That’s me!
Ooh that would be cool
We have at least a dozen cookbook shelves. And I'd love to see what cookbooks other people use.
That would be so cool. I’d love to know the top 3 cookbooks that people actually use
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS
As a Turkish person , 4 things I always keep in my fridge (365 days a year):
eggs, turkish white cheese (similar to greek feta cheese) and olives (both black & green) & plain healthy yoghurt
Love to all from beautiful Istanbul
I wanted to see Turkiye in the video! Thanks for commenting! Love from Georgia in the US :)
A turkinsh uber driver once told me you eat a certain kind of yoghurt in the summer to cool off, is that right?
I live in Canada, and Türkiye is at the top of my list of countries I want to visit. So many interesting historical and archaeological sites. I don't think that a lot of people realise just how many events from history took place in present day Türkiye.
@@Terri_MacKay if you do come to Istanbul one day, write to me, we can have some coffee or turkish tea :)
@@yasemini25 That would be awesome!! ❤️😊
In my opinion, Santiago wins the award for most unique item: smoked reindeer meat in cream cheese in a tube!!! What! I want to try that someday. Just like how going to the grocery store in a new country tells you a lot about the culture, seeing the fridges of people around the world was so enlightening! 🌍
I’m surprised and delighted at just how international so many of the fridges are. Truly food (and drinks!) have gone worldwide!
Juliane with her 4 named "pet" sourdough starters cracked me up! 😂 So adorable (also, I'm jealous!)
Ulla, Lorenzo, Ferdinand and Rüdiger. Makes me wonder: is it common in other languages to name your sourdough starter? I've heard of it quite often in Germany especially with old fashioned names.
Lao gan ma should use this as evidence to push an international campaign. I am from the Caribbean and ALSO have it in my fridge. Lol
Same!! I'm from the Netherlands and have a 700 grams jar in my fridge 😂
Is it a chili crisp? I've been wanting to try Chinese chili crisp for a month now and don't know what brand I should get.
I'm in Canada and I also have a jar 😊
@@ivetterodríguez-j4k lao gan ma is great! if you want to try chinese chilli crisp it's a good one and usually pretty easy to find.
I have chili cisp in my fridge to in Delaware, U.S.
Isn't it amazing about fridges? No matter how big or small they are, they are filled with things that make the owners bring them daily pleasures.
Not just inside, but the outside of the fridge (magnets etc) show so much personality!
Yes all of the magnets and pictures on the doors. We have out fridge wrapped in white board paper and use dry erase markers on it for notes.
My favorite was @3:38 "I want to finger and lick my luscious friend" and "You & I could go to my bed and play together"
I'm obsessed with this woman who named her sourdough starter! Also, Shannon is rocking that Keira Knightley in Love Actually vibe.
why am i gettting emotional seeing all these cute peeps sharing their fridge contents???
What I learned from this episode, hot sauce, mustard and pickles are universal. eggs and cheeses are must everywhere.
No, not universal. As a northern Chinese, the only thing on that list that my family ever has around is eggs. I actually don't know a single person growing up who has mustard or cheese around, like ever. Things containing those things are restaurant treats that you just don't eat or make at home. Pickles are a once in a while type of thing and pickled mustard greens and sauerkraut are probably way more popular, and even those things most people don't keep at home constantly. My region doesn't really do spicy foods so hot sauce was a non-presence at home, though they're probably easily available for those who do like it.
@@catinabox3048 okay, I can understand not having any mustard around, but pickles is a broad term used for preserved foods. you're telling me that Northern Chinese don't preserve any kind of foods at all? I find that hard to believe. there is not a single civilization that has not come up with some way to preserve foods using a brine.
@@catinabox3048If I have understood correctly, dairy, like cheese, is not standard i Japan. Is that true for China too?
Oh! I love this episode so much! It's such a joy to see the chaos inside most folks fridges and the fact that almost all of us have atleast one weird semi permanent resident senior item in our fridges. 😅😅😅
My favourite was Lorenzo... he's Italian. 😂
I absolutely love that man's cookbook bookshelf 😊
Thanks! That’s me!
@@seustaceRotterdam I love looking at food from everywhere so seeing your shelf of cookbooks made me so happy 😊 it's truly beautiful 😍
@@seustaceRotterdamI got so excited seeing the blue pasta cookbook! My dad had that when I was younger and I remember absolutely loving the brandy chicken fettuccine recipe from it! I keep meaning to buy a copy for myself one day!
I never put my condiments is the fridge anymore, never had a problem with them going bad! I live in a small place, so I have a small fridge. I envy some fridges that are life size! I'd love to see a pantry episode, because I'd love to see what people keep in stock to always be able to make something. For example some very low budget options that are always handy and usable. Love this video!
Excellent idea
I do the same bc all the restaurants I worked at never refrigerated hot sauce, ketchup, or mustard.
@@mishaa7263 In my experience, mustard gets bad quicker, but for all the other stuff there's no need to clutter fridge space!
Same here. Only if I have opened mayonnaise or pesto, I'll transfer them to the fridge.
Same . I was surprised that it's not the same for everyone. They put everything in the fridge which is not necessary.
Ok that little girl is way too adorable.. “I wanna give you a tour of my fridge, let’s start with my fridge” 😂😂😂
I have a Tupperware of my Mom's soup. She made it in 2009 before she passed away. I keep it for sentimental value
I hope its kwpt in the freezer because if its in the fridge even in a tupeprware can spread micro bacteria that can be dangerous
@@mercedesvelasquez8781 don't worry, it's a deep freeze situation, the tupper is inside a bag. It just couldn't throw something she made
The number of people who just shove their whole pot with leftovers into the fridge rather than putting it in a container is mindboggling. On the other hand, I feel relieved I am not the only condiment addict in the world that is comforting.
I try not to do that because it takes up a lot of space but sometimes I think it’s better because then the food is sitting in a metal container not a plastic one (I worry about leeching chemicals and don’t have enough glass ones yet).
As someone who works full-time and lives in a household of two, I feel like transferring from the pot to container(s) just to have to wash both the pot and the container(s) is just more extra work than I'd like to do on a busy day and I try not to keep more food than two people can reasonably consume before it goes bad so space typically isn't an issue. Plus depending on what's in the pot I sometimes prefer reheating it in the same pot over the stove rather than portioning out to another container to microwave it.
what's the point of transferring, oder than making your fridge look pretty? Unless the pots are almost empty, and/or your fridge has limited space, it doesn't make sense!
i just started this habit this year and im 30, and its because i live alone finally and im lazy haha.
I definitely do that either when it’s a lot of leftovers that would have to go in a ton of containers (like a big pot of soup) or if I’m just in a rush or feeling lazy lol! But it’s probably only like 30% of the time I do that.
Beryl, I hope you know how much I love you. This video was the *_absolute best!_* I loved this idea and all the members of our community ❤️❤️❤️
I love the last part of the video where everyone is showing what the most common thing is to find in the fridges of their culture. So many similar things. :) Food brings humanity together.
"I like to use this to saute garlic...I always burn it" 😂😂😂
The "Thank you for coming to my fridge" guy, so cute! And food in a tube 😂😂
This had my smiling the whole time and really warmed my heart!! What a wonderful community Beryl has created, from members all over the world!! It's amazing to see people from across the globe with items in their fridge just like me!
This is really interesting! Thank you everyone for showing off your refrigerated goodies. It makes me feel better that I have a fridge full of condiments, but I also feel energized to clean out my fridge. Ha ha ha ha
Lets see inside your fridge Beryl and tell us your favourite things in there. Love all your videos
Yes want to see inside Beryl's fridge!
Yes! Why didn't she share hers?
All hail the fridge 😂
The common thing everyone has is some kind of sauce 😂👌🔥
I’m impressed by the one making Kombucha herself! 😮
If you are interested: it is actually super simple. You just need a scoby to start with. Then you feed it tea and sugar
Thank you so much! ☺️❤️
It is indeed very easy, once you get your hands on a scoby. My recipe for kombucha is the following:
Ingrediënts:
- 0.8 l of spring water
- tablespoon organic green/black tea
- 40 g sugar
- 0.2 l of starter + scoby
Method:
- Boil the 0.8 l of water on the stovetop on medium-high with 1 tbsp of tea leaves and 40 g of sugar for 10 minutes
- pour the liquid in a bowl with a sieve on top to sieve out the tea leaves
- let the liquid cool down completely
- pour your cooled tea together with the starter liquid and the scoby in a big sterilised jar.
- Let the jar ferment for 10 days - 3 weeks. Then you can harvest your kombucha, but make sure to reserve some liquid and you scoby to start a new kombucha (about 1/5 of the total volume)
-> this is the first fermentation.
You can also do a second fermentation if you add fruits to the harvested kombucha liquid (no scoby in here) and let it sit for another 2 days. This makes it less acidic and more flavourful :)
You can make your own scoby with a good bottle of GT’s plain kombucha. That’s how I started mine.
Oh, thank you so much everyone!
A true Mexican fridge with the beer sitting right next to the electrolites 😂 loved this video
I have always hoped for a fridge tour episide, Beryl, as a fan of the Korean TV show Please Take Care of my Fridge. Thanks so much!
Ahh, Laoganma, the condiment which unites the entire world!
Absolutely love this!!!! It’s so refreshing to see ppl not trying to be perfect. Just humans on the internet bonding over food❤
I was actually amazed to see how many people have pictures and magnets all over their fridge taking up at the least half to the entire fridge. We have our fridge door wrapped in white board paper and use the fridge to take notes on using dry erase markers.
This video is proof we’re becoming more globalized community. It starts with good food! I’m Vietnamese American and I feel I have things from all over the world.
I was happy to see that several people have Laoganma Chili Crisp. It's simply the best chili crisp in the world. And, it isn't expensive.
We don’t understand it, my partner is even Chinese and it’s the least spicy and least flavourful Asian chilli condiment 😅
@@eaglenoimoto Really? Maybe I have never had good chili crisp. I don't live where there are Asian markets. I have to buy what is available at the grocery stores in my area. Laoganma is $3.88 a bottle. The only other brand here is over $9.00 and it doesn't have nearly as much flavor. I like the Laoganma because it actually has crunchy bits. It doesn't have much heat but it has more heat than the other brand. I like a lot of heat so I add heat to it.
@eaglenoimoto It's mystifying to me as well! I tried it once and it didn't motivate me to buy it because literally every other chilli crisp and sambal in my supermarkets have more depth and flavour!
Hands down this is my favorite and most entertaining episode. Thanks Beryl!
This is an amazing format . It’s so eye opening how we are all so different yet the same . ❤
I live in Southern Ontario, Canada.
3 things I always have in my fridge...tomatoes, eggs, cheese
Oldest thing in my fridge...a tube of yogurt that's 4 years old. It was our dog's favourite treat, and it when he passed away we couldn't bring ourselves to throw it out, so it still sits in the fridge
Most indicative of the place I live...real maple syrup
Non-food item...in the summer, we keep our body spray in the fridge, so that it's nice and cold and refreshing when we use it
Great video. Pickles are an international hit! I've got some in my fridge, too. 🙂
I loved seeing so many condiment/sauces in the fridge of peoples around the world that are also in my fridge. Even the same brands! ❤
I am so happy to see all those condiments. All of the door shelves and my entire bottom shelf is full of condiments 😄
What a wonderful episode - you can really see how global and well travelled we are these days with the mix of cultural foods in everyone's fridges
I am a new jersey italian gal and I always have parmigiano reggiano and pecorino romano in my fridge! Plus a container full of parm rinds to use in soups, so good :)
I loved seeing how universal the love of cheese is across countries!
I really love seeing how folks all around the world have ingredients from all different cuisines. Granted the sample size is small and the population skews towards an openness to different cultures and cuisines, but it’s still cool to see so much tofu all over the world.
The lady from Belgium, look at her kitchen view. Amazing!
This video is a cultural gem, thank you for this idea and for opening the world!
I loved this video. Please do it again!
Info for the nice condiment lady: most hot sauces do not need to be refrigerated.
My fridge has nothing 😂
But I would love to show my Grandmomma’s. Ever since my granddaddy's passing we have all his favorites so we have a bit of him every time we eat something
Beryl Shereshewsky's channel is so entertaining. Thank you! Food is love and we all have more in common than we don't. Love and food (love) is always the answer.
hahaha great we German all have Tofu and Hummus in the fridge . Same here. But yes Yams, Mustard, Sparkling water ( sodastream) , Cheese, Bread and Tomato Paste. The only difference is wont drink any alcohloic stuff.
Oh and I keep my Stored Asthma medication in the Fridge, because it needs to be cooled for longer durations not getting bad
Same for everything but the cheese and yams. Even same regarding the Asthma meds. 😅 German as well.
MISSING from every fridge on there ... A lazy susan! I have 3. I got so tired of losing items and having to dig them out! It's awesome now😁 love your channel!
really fun episode. When they put the expired stuff back 😂
I'm Rob. I have 2 fridges plus a mini fridge for drinks, and a giant freezer.
I might have food issues. But at least I don't keep bread in the refrigerator.
Naming your sourdough is totally a thing!
I have a half a bottle of kalamata olives that says 2018.
When my father sold his house in 2001, there were bottles of pickles in the pantry that my mother packed in 1979...
I have some seeds in the refrigerator, to help them get ready to propagate, and stay fresh until then.
I live in Sierra Vista, Arizona, A MUST for my fridge is German Mustard, & all of the sausages, Kimchi, & Red, Green & Yellow Curry Paste (I do have the spices, but as a Mom~sometimes time is a factor so I do have the paste!) & all of the veggies to make anything Vietnamese!!! I am raising my kids to KNOW how to cook for themselves when they leave the nest!!! I love this episode!!! ✌🏻
Isn't it interesting how much more HUGE fridges in the US are, even for people who live alone?
Loved this video! It's fun to see how international so many are with kimchi and tofu and such everywhere, even if those foods aren't in their original culture.
I loved the mexican fridge tour, it was so wholesome ☺️ & the Austrian one as well, not the tamarind paste expired in 2016 😂
& I screamed at the German girl with her 4 sourdough starters Ulla, Ferdinand, Lorenzo & Rüdiger 😂😂
Also I didn't know Germans are so obsessed with tofu!
I loved this video. Seeing these peoples fridges felt like seeing a part of their soul, as a person who loves people watching, this was amazing! Thank you for this video Beryl!! Lots of love
Loved this! Haven’t had the time to make a video but I’d love to see a 2.0 of this, more specific on dietary restrictions across the globe. I’m curious about what’s available in other countries. I myself am lactose intolerant and gluten sensitive, at the end of August I’ll have to undergo some tests to make sure it’s not celiac disease…
As a US ex-pat living in Germany for almost 30 years my Fridge has transformed into a mostly German/European Fridge. (Yes, my delicious and incomparable German bread lives the the Fridge.) As you've seen in this video the contents include a lot of foods and flavors not traditionally German. I love mustard, so I have several (too many probably) jars of them. I even have a jar of French's US mustard. Not because it is better than the others - it's just because. My biggest struggle to satisfy here is one of my last US taste yearnings - Pastrami. What I find here (always a chance find) just doesn't hit the spot. Europe has many wonderful cured meats. I recently learned that Pastrami may have originated in Romania. So, there still may be hope. BTW, I loved this video.
Rewe has Pastrami sometimes, but it probably isn't quite the right stuff as well?
Hope you like living here nevertheless. 😄
CANADA! I noticed there was no one from Canada! What three things I always have in the fridge are: Canadian Bags of Milk; Old Cheddar Brick Cheese; and Canadian Eggs Large.
And Maple Syrup of course and Table Syrup. Cheers!
This was amazing! Thank you all for sharing with us❤❤
I love this!!! So fun. Thanks to everyone who opened their fridges to us.
Spotting that Abba herring jar in Chloe's fridge, I was like "Impossible! She was neither in nor from Sweden?" ^^ Such a pleasant surprise! It's the best for getting lunch on the table with 0 time and 0 planning.
Would love to see a video on what women from different cultures eat during their periods to stay healthy and comfortable, especially from cultures where periods are still considered taboo, yet working hard to break that wall.
I wish that the whole world could watch your videos. I think that there would be more peace xo
Great show Beryl. I loved to see how different things were and yet how much the same.
Taking a gulp of Kefir every so often isn't odd. I do the same.
i loved this!!! the non food items were especially entertaining. i remember my parents kept batteries in the fridge too. cheers, beryl! 🛴❤
I was surprised no one else always has lemons 😂 that’s the first thing that comes to mind for me, and I keep mine in the fridge. I love lemons in food - on roasted veg, in soups, in pasta. If a recipe has lemon in the title, I’m interested! So I always have at least 3 in my fridge at all times.
It seems different regions of the world or a continent have the same few fridge items always on hand, as I predicted! I never thought about how much you can learn about someone from their fridge!
That little girl has so many blueberries!
More of these!! More in depth!! I Love it!!!!!
Thanks!☮
That's such a brilliant idea Beryl! This could be a proper study method 🌸
Eggs, orange juice, sour cream , and every condiment that is available in the United States. Also the cheese drawer is always full. We love cheese, and hit all the farmer's markets for extra special cheese. Loved this episode, will be hitting up markets to find some very popular ingredients we've never tried. Really love your channel, keep doing what you do!
This was fascinating! I'm an American living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and it's interesting how vastly different most of the items in all of these fridges are from mine.
Id love to see a vidoe on home grown produce (not necessarily meals). Our plum tree exploded this year and im overwhelmed 😅
I'm Canadian and three things I always have in my fridge are Lao Gan Ma, gouda cheese, and mustard pickles! 🇨🇦
So cute that Beryl lets children participate in her channel!!!!
This was a really fun episode. Please do it again sometime.
I’m Brazilian and I always have half an onion and half a lime somehow, some superglue, lots of fruit like mangoes, papaya or watermelon, some tapioca flour, butter, cheese and eggs. We also always have some garlic, parsley and green onions.
I also lived in Austria for a while and my son was born there so he must have his sparkling water.
From other cultures I always have dijon mustard, soy sauce and wasabi paste.
So many beautiful people.
Excellent video 👍 Thank you 💜
What a fun episode! Thanks!
I would love to see the inside of the fridge at the science station in Antarctica. I bet they have some non-edibles in there. This episode was so fun. I was too chicken to send in a video so I respect everyone who did!
1:52 I've never related to anyone more!
Rüdiger! 💖
All love to Juliane and her sourdough gang!
Such a great video! I absolutely loved it.
Beryl this was such a great idea for a video. Thoroughly enjoyed!
I keep seeing the same brand of chili crisp I keep in my fridge. I am in Alabama and I make collard greens, turnip greens, mustard greens nearly every day. I put a spoon or two of chili crisp and pickled Tabasco pepper brine, which is straight up white vinegar, in the pot as the greens are finishing up cooking. It really seasons them well and brightens the meal. Also, if you use all the pepper sauce and still have a jar of peppers, just boil more vinegar, pour it over the peppers, put the lid on tight and wait a month or two. I always keep at least two bottles of peppers at all times and I love to snack on the tiny peppers when I eat crackling bread.
What a fun episode!!
Video idea: Tour of people’s kitchens, specifically unique kitchen appliances, traditional kitchen tools, or one-trick-pony convenience kitchen appliances or tools for that culture. For instance, those all-in-one breakfast sandwich makers or avocado slicers in American households, or wet/dry grinder in Indian households.
Loved this; more please!🙏
Currently live in Colorado , USA, but have moved many times to different states and been to different countries. Top 3 items in our fridge for 2 people are Eggs, Lactose free Milk, and shredded cheese, We also have two shelves on the door full of condiments from Asian and Mexican cuisine. The oldest thing is a huge jar of Pickled Ginger. With just the two of us it has lasted almost a year.
This was totally fun.
The people with tons of variations on the same item are definitely my people. Right now we have 5 kinds of hot sauce, 3 kinds of salsa, 5 kinds of mustard, 10 different cheeses, 7 different salad dressings, olives, a variety of fermented foods (plain yogurt, kimchi, pickles, and sauerkraut), eggs, bacon, hummus, and veggies that are in season from a local farm stand. The produce changes but we always have the wide array of condiments, yogurt, pickles, eggs, cheese, and leftovers.
Three things I always have in our refrigerator, I have homemade bread and butter sweet pickles, sweet pickle relish, and Tom yum paste.
I need 10 more of these videos
