That first one might not have been a keeper for regular sportsmen fishing, but for survival fishing, it'll keep you from starving. Great demonstration, keep up the good work.
Dave you make that look so easy. That's a neat idea thanks for the video. I remember seeing one sometime back where someone made one out of PVC. I guess if you go to the hardware store and poke around you can figure out what all you would need. I remember growing up as a kid we always use cane poles. They were pretty fun and if you landed a bluegill on one of those things, oh boy did you have a fight on your.
Much respect to you sir😃👍. I've Learned alot from watching your channel as well as on dual survivor. That Everglade episode when you used gunpowder to cauterize your wound for our educational purposes.. I said to myself....."NOW THAT'S A TRUE BAD ASS!!"😃💯👍
Good job Dave. I fill my casting bubble half full with water. That way it will still float but the added weight will allow you to get the fly or bait out deeper.
Great video. Adding water for weight extends you casting ability. Im sure you did that but it wasn’t seen in the video. Most people should know this. Awesome job , thanks again
You got a ton of really cool videos put on UA-cam over the years, but this one here is a real gem! It sums up your creativity, skill and the true love you feel for the things that you do. Greetings from Switzerland and many thanks for being such a passionate and talented teacher that is above all generous about sharing his hard earned wisdom with your audience. Last but not least, I very much appreciate the high quality of video and audio that is consistently top notch. I'm a long time subscriber that watches almost every one of your clips for now more than ten years and I'm glad to say that I never got bored even a second.
Nice kit. One thing I would add is a couple Gulp soft plastic lures, whichever type fits your area. These have scent in them, and can be used as a lure or broken into pieces and fished as bait. They are tough enough to withstand several strikes, and hold the scent for a long time. I use these regularly when salt water fishing with standard rod and reel, and have never been disappointed with their performance. There are other brands that are similar, like Power Bait, so choose whichever one you like best. If you have water in your area, fishing is the fastest, easiest way to score a quick meal without drawing attention to yourself, and fish can be prepared quickly or even eaten raw without much concern over parasites or harmful microbes in the meat.
Iv never seen a casting bubble before (based in the UK) is it filled with water to give it some weight? Great addition if so!! Thanks for all the inspiration over the years, you are one of the reasons that I now make a living teaching survival with my own business.
Another great video Dave! Hey what happened to your Facebook page? I used to catch up on your latest content there but here lately it seems like there is no content and a lot less interesting. Almost like it was hacked. 🤔 Anyway, keep up the great work!
A plastic pop bottle is the best . The shape enables extremely long and smooth casts and a ton of line is easily wrapped around it...far more than is needed , that can be used for other things.
Very cool handline rig! I really like the natural look of it and very nice craftsmanship Dave. Thanks for the video and for sharing your thoughts, ideas and experience with us. btw any of those fish would be big enough in survival mode when you're hungry.
Now this is a neat hand line kit. Just find a nice piece of river cane and your on your way. Great job Dave. I would add a few "Fly Fishing" surface poppers. Those thing always seem to catch fish when everything else fails. Yellow seems best. Tie the casting bubble with the narrow end toward you, it creates the least distraction that way. You may be surprised how many times a fish will strike the bubble. ;-)
Still, a very edible bass if legal during "regular " times, and a keeper for sure if a survival situation Hope to see some trapping videos this season Thanks
Is the bamboo from the school property? Do you think bamboo the size you used for the main tube would be big enough to make the tripod bed you’ve shown on your channel a few times?
Im not a great fisherman but I know the basics somewhat. What is the best line (strength) and size hooks do you or most people recommend for a basic kit?
I like to use a 8 to 10 lbs line and #8 or #6 Gamakatsu Octopus circle hooks in freshwater. The hooks are strong, crazy sharp and easy to set by just putting some tension on the line. If you expect big fish scaling up the line might be called for.The handline in the hobo style is no setup for really big fish anyway.
made one of these out of a 20 oz pop bottlr necked it sown in the middle with a lighter used it at a local dock and cought fish but the others there kept offering me their spare poles
Ummm... can't find anything on your website. Search 'survival gear', search "bamboo", search "handline", search "fishing". Try it yourself .... Nothing.... zero results that are pertinent to this video. Regardless.... Bamboo is such a versatile and durable material. Cheap, plentiful, renewable, and strong!!! Such a great choice for a compact fishing drop-line spool (reel?). However, bank line....? Whilst bank line is very strong compact and versatile...is not ideal for fishing when compared to modern braided monofilament varieties. Number 12 bankline can do nothing that a similar strength braided fishing line can't do better. Snares, cordage use, price per yard/meter, weight, thickness, visibility, stretch capacity, breaking strength....... precisely what benefit does #12 bankline offer over any 100lb braided fishing line? Floats? Walmart sells floating braided fishing line... $9.57 for 75 meters (247ft). Prove me wrong, but before you do... please update your link to something slightly more specific than a homepage. Show us the actual item link.
Oh yeah, eight year old me would have caught so many trees with this.
Current age me would catch exclusively bushes and trees with this 😂

The smaller container inside the main body is a winner. Will be adding that to mine. Thanks for sharing!
That’s for the video and demonstration on a nice bit of kit 👍🏻👍🏻
That fishing kit is awesome!! Keep up the great work 👍
Been carrying mine since before he started promoting one years ago. Love this piece of kit. Better than a pole in almost every circumstance.
Now that's a proper hobo reel Dave Canterbury.☘️😎👍
I haven’t watched tv in years. Use to watch you on duel survival. Great show. Just found you here on UA-cam. SUBSCRIBED.
Bamboo is one of the versatile resources that is available today
Love the content Dave. You always seem like you're enjoying yourself out there too. Definitely living the dream brother. Keep it up.
Good job Dave. I fill my casting bubble half full with water. That way it will still float but the added weight will allow you to get the fly or bait out deeper.
Those panfish are so tasty. Luckily for us, not too many people fish for them. More for us.
19.09....Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag Dave! Viel Viel Gesundheit und Freiheit! Herzliche Grüße aus Germany
Great video. Adding water for weight extends you casting ability. Im sure you did that but it wasn’t seen in the video. Most people should know this. Awesome job , thanks again
Would love to see an instructional video on how to make this!
Man that thing is cool. Thanks Dave
Great kit, and a great demonstration
That is a great little project to make
Awesome video Dave , thanks you !!!
The casting bubble is a new concept for me, when my family wanted to get more distance fishing we’d often just add more weight
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day; teach a man how to fish, feed him for a lifetime. Nice hand line rig and technique sir.
Got some cured out bamboo in the shop waiting for a project. Going to be making one of these!

Getting results is always a good thing. Who don't like a day of feeshin'?

can you show us the dreaded fishing hook trap?
That looks like a great idea.
That's pretty sweet right there brother!

Great addition if so!!

Love that bamboo item.
Wow! Thanks for sharing. That’s handy dandy!
You could sell those things like crazy

Dave - any update on the Agawa hatchet head handle conversion video?

Common man I like that kids need to know that ❤😊
Thats Awesome!
Neato! Good stuff! Thanks!

Really superb idea
I love using my Cuban yo-yo.
3 fish makes a good meal!
What a great project for my nephew! Quite impssive how far you can throw that. Thanks!!
Awesome, Dave. Camera quality was excellent as well.
Informative and beneficial video!
Nice kit
Very helpful. Thank you.
Love it!
It's a BIG one too!
Hola, me gusta mucho sus videos, saludos

Hope to see some trapping
videos this season
Thanks
Off subject, but wondering If the PF 64 oz. Bottle will fit inside the 1qt. PF Bush Pot ?
Keep it going
Thanks Dave

And I suppose if you really need or want it, there's nothing keeping you from improvising a rod in the field to go along with the other kit
Thanks

👍🏻🔥
BACKFLIP!!
I dont think i ever noticed your a lefty. :)
Bluegill?
If you were really (survival) hungry, that bass would have been the basis of a good meal.
🐟🐡🐠
What kind of bamboo?
Chinese or North African will work just fine.
