The fact that such a statement is controversial does point out one of the major flaws of many politicians (not just American ones at that) that Trump could exploit to win the election. If decorum has kept people from making even that meek of a request of a world leader who's involved in some questionable activities.
Also reminds me of when the Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs was largely berated by politicians and media for straight up telling Saudi Arabia (in an otherwise very innofensive speech) that torturing people for having a different opinion is medieval and barbaric. That was considered an insane statement?
In this case as in many others, Trump inadvertently helped expose some of our greatest problems in western society. One could hope we learn from it even after the impeachment/resignation. But I'm not holding my breath.

1-State solution would mean South African apartheid with second class citizens that have no voting and other rights called Palestinians even if they are in the majority or if you give both full citizens rights and power that Jewish Israelis would disappear as a 20% minority in the 80% majority of Palestinians in the region. So the 2-State solution would be better for peace if they finally agree on clear borders on both sides. Since they seem to be unable to do that, the day-to-day reality now is the 1-State solution now with second class citizen Palestinians and the resulting hate and terrorist attacks and ultra violent military response from Israel each time. So Trumps ignorance to say "I like any solution both like" means he doesn't know that there is no solution that both sides like. That he would be ok with a 1-State solution also means that he would be ok with one side losing completely and willingly and giving up themselves. Trump is an ignorant child, not a clever politician!

Actually Zen La brings up a very valid topic. For over 7 years (at least) teachers in many districts are utilizing extremely well developed lesson plans to educate K-12 students. I remember reviewing one that was 39 pages, constructed in a manner, every adult could benefit from reading. and yes, guarantee Trump would stumble to discuss 5 main roadblocks to peace, Oslo Accords, importance of Jordan River, Sea of Galilee, how present successful desalination is one of keys in brokering peace deal, or what caused one side to become so angry about olives. (what=a roadblock)
Primarily though, back to Zen La's comment, todays generation is experiencing an incredible period in civic education.
How Palestinians and Israelis have different narratives of historical events. Truly teaching what social justice is, means to others or what it could be. Getting past right/wrong means exposing these brilliant minds to Palestinian narratives AND the Zionist narratives often dominating textbooks.
By teaching from both perspectives , critical thinking skills are further developed and provides students the opportunity to decide what they think for themselves.
An example proving how beliefs were shaped re: legitimacy of the state of Israel:
Students learn a Palestinian student in Gaza or the West Bank and a student in Israel will learn different stories about what transpired in 1948.
Being able to learn and understand another side, even if do not agree. True freedom.

Its such a nice way to see life, but the bigger problem was that Palestinians were probably going to accept the presence of jews because after all Palestinians were a mixture of religions. Had the jews not claimed the land theirs once they regained their power, had they not took what doesnt belong to them, had they not terrorised the Palestinians for ages and locked them up in what is now called the largest open air prison, Palestinian generations wouldnt have came up seeing nothing in this world but hate and terror and fear. It is hard to ask someone who was terrorised and watched his family get murdered to not seek righteous revenge, it's hard to persuade them to not reclaim their land.

Actually, what I think he said was that all options are on the table. He isn't pushing the Two State Solution, he is stepping back to hear if the parties still want it. After 24 years that include two or three intifadin (depending on whether 2015-2016's stabbing and intentional car attacks qualify), numerous other attacks, and the birth of Hamas's failed state and constant attacker on land Israel handed the PA, many Israelis do not have high hopes for this solution. I don't know what's sentiment on the Palestinian side, but they two have heard 24 years of negotiations but no results. Not to mention their likely choices seem to come down to a few well-positioned cadres, each ready to set up their own totalitarian and corrupt regime.
Artificially insisting that "the only solution" is similar to the one Arafat turned down when Israel offered it in Camp David II may well be counterproductive.
Side-note: "Israel and Palestine"? Israel and the Palestinian Arabs. The Two State Solution would mean the creation of a State of Palestine. The state is not a negotiating party, and the phrasing makes as little sense as saying, "Investors and the CEO, Jane Doe are negotiating about whether or not to appoint Ms Doe the firm's CEO."
