    Great Video, just wish they would bring em back!! After having just got back from a short break in Blackpool this weekend, one of the New trams me and the wife were on had a brakes failure!! People were flagging down the tram and the driver just kept going past. When asked by a passenger why he wasn't stopping, he replied that he couldn't because the brakes were not responding. OMG, bring back the old faithfuls!!

      If he didn't bring the tram to an immediate stop by stepping off the accelerator and having it towed to the depot, it wasn't brake failure. Besides, I'd trust modern braking systems over older systems any day

      Thanks, it is still possible to ride on the old trams, I think the heritage operation runs all the year round.

    The Heritage Service Operates a Limited Calendar with a ever growing fleet. Its fantastic what is going on at Blackpool. New and Old. Best of Both Worlds.

    They didn't close down, the new trams entered service in 2012 but you can still ride on some of the old trams on some weekends in the summer - this is the heritage tram operation, the next time this is operating is the weekend of 20th July 2014.

    The modernised balloon trams, ie all the ones fitted with the new entrance doors are being retained plus the illuminated cars and some of the trams of historical interest. The centenary class single deckers and the twin cars will not run again in Blackpool. Other trams no longer running are the Jubilee class double deckers 761/762. Hope this gives you information needed.

    A part of Blackpool died that night it doesn’t feel like Blackpool anymore unless I catch one running on a special service

      I always thought that Blackpool had to decide whether it was running a museum or a public service, fortunately today we have the best of both worlds, the heritage operation hopefully will go from strength to strength.

      @@bobhodgestransportDVDs The only current downfall of the Heritage operation today is the lack of communication causing confusion to resort guests. Otherwise, it is getting better every year.

    • @bobhodgestransportDVDs

      @@dansrandomvideos2515 They need to get communication with hotel guests right, they are a very important customer base, otherwise, as you say, the heritage operation gets better all the time.

    I realise that we have to move with the times. I do though think that in a few years time it will be realised that taking so many old trams off was a mistake. Its almost like demolishing the tower because its "old" and building a concrete tower in its place. Planners need to be very very forward looking.

      Mark Wolstenholme they already are realising it, the Heritage fleet is running far more frequently, even during the winter months now would you believe, more and more of them are coming back

    Ironic "last tram to the tower" really, it's the last tram to "Rigby Road"
    I wonder if Steve Palmer will make a new edition of his book.

    At the very least, if they needed new rolling stock, wouldn't it have been more interesting to introduce modern double deckers?

    • @bobhodgestransportDVDs
      @bobhodgestransportDVDs  2 роки тому

      I agree it would have been more interesting, but any double deckers would have had to be custom built and thus very expensive, whereas the Flexity trams are a proven design that quite a few tramways have bought.

      @Rubycon99 2 роки тому

      @@bobhodgestransportDVDs Yeah, I understand. Trams just seem so same-same these days... which I guess is a little hypocritical on my part because it was the same way with PCCs in the U.S. and I adore those. :P

    • @dansrandomvideos2515
      @dansrandomvideos2515 2 роки тому

      @@Rubycon99 well at least in the pcc days it wasn't all pcc's everywhere around the world with a tramway like it is now with articulated low floor trams (with a couple of outlyers). The world used to balance cost, design, functionality, and innovation to overcome problems for that specific time and place quite well but now only the first and enough of the third to pass tests seems to be considered at all.
