I’m a Toyota guy by heart, and i wanted to love the RAV4 Hybrid. I drove a RAV4 limited and Cr-V St back to back , the driving dynamics were noticeably better on the Cr-V so i went that way. Very happy with my purchase. Thank you for your reviews.
@@rkgsdI’ve been waiting for a Hybrid Highlander for 1.5 years. I think I’ll stop waiting and pick up the CR-V. A little smaller but less expensive and available. If you wanted a 2026 RAV4, you should have ordered it months (or more?) ago. Just sayin’.
@Prairiedogma The all-new 2026 RAV4 hasn't even been revealed or announced yet. We only know it's in the pipeline. Therefor you can't order what's not listed.
I own a 2023 CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring. Allow me to add my thoughts. I love the comfort, performance and drivability of the vehicle. I disagree about build quality. My local dealer service has been responsive but Honda has not. In the steering issue, it was 7 months until they resolved the issue and only then because I threatened legal action. And this was a safety issue!
I have the 24' CRV Hybrid Sport and I have some issues as well 1. Rear tailgate makes squeaking noise when opening and closing (not the powered tailgate). 2. Driver's seat makes squeaking noise when the car goes over bumpy road and it's driving me crazy. 3. Sticky steering wheel issue where it kinda clicks when I turn the steering wheel, it even happens when I lightly wiggle the steering wheel at a complete stop. I just had my first oil change at 5k miles at the Honda dealership yesterday and the service advisor has informed me regarding to the "sticky steering" and "fuel pump" issue. They are waiting for the parts to fix the sticky steering issue, so they ask me to call back in 2 weeks to check up. As for the fuel pump issue, the replacement parts is very limited and Honda is issuing the parts by VIN. They will notify you in mail when it's your turn for repair. Also the repair is very complicated and it takes a whole day or maybe two to finish. First they need to wait for the car to cool down, then do an inspection on the fuel pump. They'll take the it apart and replace it with the new parts, put it back together and check for leaks, then test drive it to see if there is any problem. Finally they perform another inspection again to make sure they've done everything right before releasing the car back to you.
I’m a Toyota guy too, but it’s so difficult to get a RAV4 hybrid without waiting at least 6-12 months. You can probably purchase a CRV hybrid without waiting that long. The CRv was redesigned for 2023 while the RAv4 was designed back in 2019.
Rav looked like a crumpled beer can to me. Simpler, cleaner, less transformer toy lines are the way to go. European cars get it. Just because it's affordable doesn't mean it has to look like trash.
Thanks fore review. I agree 100% after tested both Rav4 and other compact SUV in this segment. CRV caught my attention right away after i test drive this car. It costs more in EU than Rav4 quite a bit but i didnt like Rav4 current model despite it had good engine for hybrid. It felt outdated too much. Maybe next year thy bring better version. CRV just had all i needed + very good for city driving economy.
As a ‘24 ST owner, I can attest to the fit and finish aside from the paint. Nibs all over the paint. Interior quality is awesome. The gloss black plastic EVERYWHERE has to stop. I don’t know where car makers are thinking this is a desired thing by consumers. Mechanically it’s been fine but we’re only at 12k so far.
I really like the dimensions of the crv before 2022. The 2021 CRV I have now is not too big, not too wide, not too long, it's perfect to for the city, and highway. I really wish they'd keep the agile dimensions. I'll be keeping my 2021 CRV for a very long time
I believe that you have to love, or at least enjoy what you are driving. For this reason, I choose CRV. No regret so far, for almost a year. Toyota should heavily improve inside quality.
Sorry if I missed it, but did you talk about fuel economy in the video? That's one of the reasons people buy a hybrid. What MPG did you get with the CR-V? How does it compare to the RAV4 Hybrid?
I love the hybrid CRV I just bought over the Rav4. Only minuses for me: 1. For the world of me I don’t understand why they eliminated the fog lights. The light at night is not enough, almost pitch black on rainy roads. 2. Lack of ventilated seats.
I would also add no home link or spare tire. This is standard fare on almost all vehicles since 2017 including my 21 Rav 4 Hybrid. Not been in the shop for anything other than oil and rotate.
A plus for the CRV Hybrid is you don’t need to worry about it the corrosion of the high voltage cable like what is happening on the RAV 4 Hybrid. I’ve joined the Toyota cablegate Facebook site and it’s quite disturbing what customers are experiencing. A downside of the Honda CRV is that the engine may be prone to carbon buildup.
I gave this video a like because you thoroughly deserve it. Please do a comprehensive comparison between honda accord hybrid and toyota camry hybrid. Am sure it will get a lot of views too.
David, If bigger is better, the CR-V hybrid is 'better' than a RAV4 Hybrid. I hope Toyota recognizes that all major competitors are now more spacious and bridges the gap with the next generation of RAV4. With a vastly superior Hybrid system, Toyota should not be playing second fiddle to anyone. For the record, the Pilot, Passport and Odyssey are built way down south in the land of cotton ie Alabama rather than Ohio.
Great, insightful review, David. Speaking of the 2026? RAV4, man, they sure are keeping that under wraps! Nary a spy photo yet. I trust you’ll be one of the first to get a glimpse, if you haven’t already! Personally, I’m hoping it will adopt some styling cues from the Land Cruiser, especially as it seems unlikely we’ll get the baby Land Cruiser.
Always enjoy your great reviews. I wonder, as prices from compact SUVs crest above $40k, if gas mileage is eliminated as a factor, would you buy a CRV or Rav 4 over a 3 yrs old RX 350?
Great review! Would appreciate information about paint colour and interior colour and fabric choices. This is an important factor for me when choosing a new vehicle.
In the last ten years, Honda has shown a lot of issues especially with the 1.5 engines. Many buyers of Honda now are probably fan boiis or those who needs a larger interior and cargo dimensions that’s where Honda shines other than that I’m placing them behind Mazda. Also, I’m not sure if I’m the only one who noticed but this CRV is going bigger every generation, I think the next two future generations from now will be the size of an Excursion.
I bought a '25 CR-V Sport L in July- had to replace a totaled '17 Mazda CX-5. I like my Honda just fine, but loved my Mazda and miss that driving experience and the elegant lines of it. The mileage of the Honda is fantastic, the interior is nice (if a bit boring) and it feels like quality. Things I think Honda missed on are the lack of auto wipers, the headlights are not great, no foglights available - all of these features are great to have here in the gloomy PNW! If/when the CX-5 is available in a hybrid, I'll definitely be visiting the Mazda dealership for a test drive. Never considered the RAV4 because it felt dated and I just didn't like the looks of it.

Hi David.... great review. Between the CR-V Hybrid and CX-50 Hybrid, which is the better overall vehicle? Which will be better for longterm durability. If you had to buy one, which one would it be and why? I've never been a Toyota fan specifically because I feel like they're overpriced compared to their competitors. Sure you get the big name backed by a reputation for durability, but they don't exactly go the extra mile for their customers. The interiors always seems very basic and plasticky compared to several of their competitors and it's something that's concerning considering the price people pay. I've owned two Hondas back to back (2005 Acura TSX and 2012 Honda Crosstour AWD), and both lasted me a long time without any major issues. The Acura was good for 8 years before I sold it, and the Honda's been good for 12 years now without any major issues. Both have had zero engine issues and I didn't have to worry that they were nickel and diming me for some of the niceties. My point is, there are other manufacturers that make good reliable vehicles that give people everything they want and even things they didn't know they wanted for reasonable prices.
