    Dr Berg notes on this "must see" episode!
    Vitamin D toxicity is very rare and typically involves too much calcium in the blood. Even Dr. Bruce Hollis, a pioneer in vitamin D research, has never personally seen a case of vitamin D toxicity. To develop vitamin D toxicity, you’d have to consume hundreds of thousands of IU of vitamin D3 for months!
    Vitamin D needs magnesium to function properly in the body. The more vitamin D you take, the more magnesium you need. Magnesium prevents vascular calcification, the main problem associated with vitamin D toxicity.
    The vitamin D receptor is dependent on zinc. Like magnesium, your zinc requirements increase when you take vitamin D. Zinc deficiency symptoms include an altered sense of taste and smell, acne, flaky skin, and lowered testosterone.
    When you increase your vitamin D intake, you’ll need more vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 helps prevent the buildup of calcium and also helps to drive calcium into the bones and teeth.
    The active form of vitamin A, called retinol, is also an important cofactor for vitamin D. Vitamin A receptors sometimes bind with vitamin D receptors as a complex. Vitamin A also helps keep calcium out of your arteries.
    Always take vitamin D3, not D2. Vitamin D2 is less potent and is typically synthetic. Avoid synthetic vitamin D3 supplements and supplements with fillers such as maltodextrin or glucose syrup.
    Leafy greens, chocolate, certain nuts, and pumpkin seeds are the best food sources of magnesium. When choosing a supplement, look for magnesium glycinate. The best food sources of zinc are red meat and shellfish. If you take a zinc supplement, consume it in a blend with other trace minerals.
    For every 10,000 IU of vitamin D3 that you take, you’ll need 100 mcg of vitamin K2. MK7 is the best form. Vitamin K2 is found in high-quality grass-fed butter, kimchi, sauerkraut, grass-fed beef, and eggs.
    It’s best to get your vitamin A from food. Egg yolks, liver, and cod liver oil are the best sources.
    Thank you Dr Berg!

      Do you know that there’s a class of antibiotics that causes tendon connective tissue disorders called Fluoroquinolones? I was put on Levaquin for pneumonia seven years ago and was not able to use my right arm for almost two years due to extreme shoulder pain…which also caused nerve damage and numbness in my right thumb. Thankfully, I no longer deal with this but I was never aware that there’s a black box warning about this on the label. There are various names under this class of antibiotics. You might check and see if your daughter was prescribed one of these antibiotics before her injury. It can take upwards to a month or longer for symptoms to appear after taking it.

    Magnesium Glycinate: Recommended for its high absorption, with doses potentially exceeding 800 mg to relieve cramps. Some individuals may require significantly higher amounts (up to 2400 mg) depending on needs.
    Zinc: Best obtained from food sources like red meat and shellfish. For supplementation, it’s crucial to ensure it's part of a trace mineral blend to avoid creating a copper deficiency over time.
    Vitamin K2: For those taking high doses of vitamin D3 (e.g., 10,000 IU), a ratio of 100 mcg of K2 per 10,000 IU of D3 is suggested. The preferred form is MK-7, which can be found in grass-fed butter, kimchi, sauerkraut, beef, and eggs.
    Vitamin A: Best sourced from animal-based foods such as egg yolks and liver, with cod liver oil being particularly recommended for its balance of vitamin A, vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids. Beta-carotene from vegetables is noted as an ineffective source for vitamin A.

      If it was done a long time ago, the prevailing food culture might be a factor, or perhaps it was men only etc. Prevailing food culture might include smoking and drinking, which people who would volunteer for a raw milk study would be unlikely to do.

I think keto is great for alot of healing the body, literally like fasting but all longlived populations eat moderate ammounts of carbs and science is catching on to this whilst it is also surfacing that keto can be very dangerous for the heart. I know that there will be no babies without carbs because the female body wont bleed with to little carbs. I tried Keto and find it utterly fascination and a very cool, sort of, medicinal practise, but calling it the human diet, makes zero sense. How would one eat so much fat in nature? From what I hear our mitochondria needs plant foods to thrive.

    Hi Dr.Berg, I have been doing keto and IF for over a year now. I do it for health (I have no weight or metabolic issues). I also take 10,000 it's daily of vitamin d3. When I had my recent blood work my total cholesterol was 276 (hdl 89 and lol 172). My lipoprotein frac. Nmr was excellent. My triglycerides 60. Then came my vitamin d level: on a scale of 30-100 I was a whopping 129! My doc said he has never seen a level so high. My calcium was 9.8 (in range). I have heard about lean mass hyperresponders. Have you seen people on high fat diets have high vitamin d?

    • @gskyle4822
      @gskyle4822 Місяць тому

      How long have you been taking high dose D3? Do you also take K? I'm kinda in the same boat, high LDL (150+), high HDL (~90), low TG (~45). I think lean mass responder usually have much higher LDL which could be reduced by resistance training for the most part even if you're on keto. I was lean and didn't have any metabolic issue, just wanted to tried keto and IF to see if it ll increase my athletic performance. I ended up losing weight/muscle mass and messed up my metabolic rate. I got back on my previous diet - high carb, low protein and high fat, and things revert back to normal. Long story short, perhaps keto isn't for everyone. As for Vit D, i only supplement Vit D in the winter and early spring to keep it above 50.

Modern food, the typical one, is lacking in vitamins ( and taste ) etc so we unfortunately often have to compensate, which easely lead to unbalance. Vit K2 can cause the blood to clot, too.
    I took Vit D3/K2 and got a bilateral pulmonary embolism. Maybe K2 is not the only reason, but in case, you have a tendency to develop blood clots (and you are not yet aware if it... I was not at that time....), K2 can be contraproductive....
    I think it would be important to mention that.
    Best wishes!

    • @SeekingTruth2023
      @SeekingTruth2023 6 днів тому +2

      @assainscreed1234 I was told that by the doctors who treated the pulmonary embolism. When you take bloodthinners, the older ones in particular, you should i.e. be careful with eating vegetables with K2. My doctor told me, as I seem to have a tendency for developing blood clots, that I shall be careful with K2.
      If you take the newer versions of blood thinners, K2 is not such a problem, because with eating them as vegetables it is not so easy to take in too much K2. But, when you take it as a supplement (i.e. to help your body use D3) the risk of overdosing is higher.
      I don't have "proof", because I am neither a doctor nor a scientist, but the reason for my PE is not known, and I took D3/K2 at that time. I didn't take a 2-1 supplement, but 2 extra products. So maybe I took to much K2? The doctors said, this might have increased the risk.
      I just wanted to mention it, because getting a PE is no fun....
      Take care! 👍

    I was taking 10,000 per day. I developed large kidney stones, two episodes 8 months apart. The 24 hour urine analysis had high levels in several areas which were caused by Vit D supplements. I quit Vit D

      Kidney stone may be formed due to many reasons apart from Vitamin D excess. What is the nature of stone I.e., Oxalate, Urate or Phosphate? What are the Parathyroid hormone ,Calcium and Uric Acid levels ?

    • @sammokkasmith
      @sammokkasmith Місяць тому +5

      Check you K2 because kidney stones are made of calcium. You may have to increase you K2. D is so important for heart health; bone health and immunity. The D added to foods has a very low absorbent rate. I developed heart problems because I was lacking D, K2, magnesium, potassium, and iron deficiency.

      yes; I've talked to people with family that have lost kidneys with 10,000. I have blood tests (3 this year) that monitor vitamin a, magnesium, and vitamin D - and 3500-5000 IU per day is optimal. I take K2 Mk4, Mk7 - DHA fish oil. Also, I've done research and have found vitamin D 10,000 IU to be risky and dangerous; there are people on reddit that mention permanent issues.

    What's with the sudden change (reduction) in dosage advice for things like Vitamin D and magnesium? It sure is weird that they would say 10,000 or more IU's, then suddenly reduce the recommended amount to 600 - 800 IU.

      vit D above RDI causes calcification of soft tissue

    • @atam3977
      @atam3977 17 днів тому

      Perhaps that is why more and more people suffer from deficiencies of magnesium, zinc, etc., because of low quality of processed food nowadays. Those elements are requieed for vit D and for calcium blocker.

    What a brilliant video. So glad I clicked on it. PS= For Vitamins K1 and K2 I recommend Japanese natto. I don't particularly love it but I have a few condiments I add a very small drizzle of then mix in to seriously enhance and alter the flavour. Try Kewpie Deep Roasted Sesame Dressing. A fantastic natural way to get vitamin K. Eat with steamed fish, rice, non pasteurized Sauerkraut or home made kimchi, miso soup and some crunchy dark greens and pickled veg. Such a great breakfast or lunch.

    Hard to know which brand of vitamins to buy as many claim to be naturally sourced or have high potency, but then use fillers. Unless you grow your own food it's hard to know which is fresh. Organic claims on food are always being called into question. We just have to do the best we can.

    Bless this doctor...he wants to help people and he is doing out of his own time... HOWEVER my opinion just eat healthy, limit or cut completely (if you can, and don't feel guilty if can't) alcohol and smoking, be positive in your own way, and especially be active even if that means blinking, talking, taking two reps...
    Listen to your doctor...
