I remember Thumb Wrestling Federation! God, that was friggin' weird!
I remember how Cartoon Network pushed that show back in 2009, their Saturday morning block had TWF commercial bumpers
I see they've beefed up Skullman like they beef up everything else. We're living in a time where the movie Dune is full of guys with big beards to reflect ourselves, a rural male-dominated society. When they remade Watership Down into a kids cartoon they beefed up the rabbits. The Kelly-Hopkinsville UFO encounter in 1955 where a family was attacked by puppet-like goblins with useless limbs has been reimagined with beefy CGI aliens crawling on the roof. I used to think Skullman was a wimpy version of Batman because his demon bat has to carry him by the shoulders everywhere and do all the work. But now I think villains (and heroes) with no special abilities are better and more interesting to watch.

I'll have to check this series out. But first, I'd like to check out the original one-shot and the 1998 manga. Btw, I have noticed that a lot of Ishinomori projects or Ishinomori-related projects feature a skull-themed character. It kinda reminds me of how almost every Kamen Rider show starts out with the first two monsters being modeled after a Spider and a Bat. Also, I didn't know about that whole deal about the actor who played Ultraman Tiga's host Daigo and the theme song. Thank God I found the whole series on UA-cam with the original theme song in tact. Because that one on the Mill Creak dvd release SUCKS!!

Kinda reminds me of Joker for persona 5 but whit a obvius Kamen Rider feel
I believe the Chinese censorship prohibits showing skeletons or in this case, skulls. When I first saw this anime around 2011 it was way too soon for me as I didn't quite grasp its tokusatsu heritage nor its various associations with Ishinomori. I did read the original manga and the other one which had more direct references that I understood.

I saw this around summer of '14, ishinimori's works have had a huge influence on me, and the skull man is just as influential with its design of the titular character.
After finishing Black Sun, I'm definitely ready to see more adult takes on Henshin heroes
The Skull Man is my absolute favourite anime. I own it on DVD because that's the only release we've ever gotten. I saw this anime in HS way before I had ever watched any Kamen Rider but it makes me appreciate both series now that I started Kamen Rider as well.
I don't know, I kinda wish they would have just made a mini series of the original 1971 Skull Man manga. Still, I like the whole cult of mutants idea and the action was awesome. The anime is just too convoluted to me.
