My son is 2 and we have that book. He can point to everything in it correctly but he cannot say any of the words himself. We have lots of sets of flash cards and he knows every single one of them but once again he cannot just say the word. He knows his colors, shapes, numbers 1-10, animals, and can sign soooo many words. He loves books and makes me read about 100 a day, seriously! I know he will talk in his own time and I know his comprehension is above average for his age. Sometimes it just takes some kids more time and some kids are early talkers. You can do everything right but it’s not up to us, they will do things at their own pace and they’re individuals and can’t be compared to anyone else

Reading aloud to children is the probably one of the best things you can do!! Children who are read 5 books a day will have heard 1 millions more words by kindergarten than those whose parents didn’t read to them.

My one year old son and I read like 20 books a day! I will literally finish reading a book to him, and he will rip it out of my hand, and give it back to me to read again. If i don't read the book again, the consequences are dire!!! We don't have a TV so it's kinda hard to entertain a moody and angry toddler.

It’s sooo fascinating to me how well spoken Riley and Jackson are considering all the experts say having the TV on during the day or kids watching TV can make speech development delayed. Clearly not the case over here.

    • @emilyrivera5582

My son is 20 months and he is very well spoken and I also use TV to try and teach him and I noticed it does well for him. But he has a cousin who is almost three and he has a lot of screen time and doesn’t talk as much. So I guess it really just depends on how your child learns.

@@emilyrivera5582 My daughter’s doctor is so against any screen time. I would feel so bad but also I would let her have screen time because I need to get things around the house done👀 you know. I would mostly put on educational shows or repetitive learning songs. I’m pretty sure the songs help my daughter learn her Alphabets and other stuff faster. My daughter is 2 now and very vocal. Still every time at the Dr. Appt I would feel bad when ask if she has any screen time 😅.

I know this wasn't your intention with the video but it just made me feel so inadequate and like I wasn't doing enough for my baby. I work a full-time job and I'm just so tired at night when I pick him up from daycare and on the weekend I just want to like veg out so I just let him independent play and I hardly ever interact with him and make a conscious effort to teach him and repeat things to him. This video has been really helpful though and has given me a lot of ideas on what to do to help him learn words and to expand his vocabulary. Thank you!

You cant compare yourself. Of course a stay at home mom is going to have more time to do this stuff (especially when you only have 1 kid). Daycare should be doing this with babies. My sister-in-law worked and was exhausted when she came home so she let my nephew do whatever. My brother worked for a news station in Miami and he went and opened a station in Cuba so he was gone for a year. Once a month my brother would come home and see his son, but that was only for 3 days. My nephew's vocabulary was very good even though my sister-in-law didnt work with him. It's ok. Things will work out for you.

I have a 22 months old and she hasn’t said anything else except“mama” , though there are three words she stopped saying for months now ..I feel so disturbed, my daughter doesn’t copy act or imitate sounds. She has very low attention span and gets bored easily when you try to get her to focus.. lemme stop ranting, all I have to say is your video is so insightful and I hope these tips works for me.

He’s such a cutie! The most important thing for language development is reading to your child and doing activities that you do like books, puzzles, ext. I do think having a sibling improved language development, we will see, my 9 month old only says “hi” my kids love their animal sound book and the one I have shows real picture of the animals. It’s great for teaching Spanish. Kids absorb everything we say and do even when they don’t talk, then one day baaam

Love this!! I need all of the ideas to keep teaching my 17 month old, she says a lot of frases, “ I love you too”, she ask her dad “how was work?” Cause she hears me all the time ask him that haha but she is not saying first words, she says moma, mami, and dad, daddy but not animals yet 🤷🏽‍♀️ I am working on getting her to say animals. Maybe it is because I am trying to teach her Spanish at the same time and she is a little confused. Another thing I recommend you to show them is plim plim is a show you can find on UA-cam, they have a bunch of videos of songs and episodes in Spanish and English, my daughter mostly learn Spanish with it and she loveees it.

My son is 17 months and says about 8 and they aren't perfect. I have been trying very hard with him. Some babes just take a little longer especially if you aren't with them all day long to practice. my husband and I work full time so he goes to a babysitter during the week. On weekends and at night we work really hard on words but it's very slow going.

My baby girl will be 18 months in a month and she will only say mama and yum yum for food but my mom says I was a slow talker too but once I started talking I went straight to full sentences. But man am I dreading this next doctor's appointment 😓

Every baby develops differently, the worst thing you can do is conpare your baby to another baby your baby will learn at her own pace 🙂

Are you teaching her 2 languages? I’ve noticed that my 18 month old slowed down when I incorporated more Spanish. She now says about 5 words in Spanish and about 10 in English but I read that 18 month olds can learn a new word weekly.

I have done minimal amount of toys and for us it was absolutely miserable. It was far far far far easier to keep my kid entertained with a lot of toys. I didnt put all the toys out all at once. I did the toy rotation.

He’s so cute 🥺😍 I’m watching this with my almost 19mo and now he’s asking me for a banana 😂 He’s a talker and book lover just like Jackson.

We also have that sound book. But my boy only turns pages in that and doesn't let me teach him 🙁 Do you have any tips to make them sit still for sometime and pay attention?

"Toddler r us!" That is completely our style as well!! Enjoy it now... Cause they grow up too soon and you will definitely miss the chaos and clutter and them wanting to talk to you all day long...
