- Public health emergencies during outbreak of communicable diseases
may cause fear and anxiety leading to prejudices against people and
communities, social isolation and stigma. Such behavior may culminate into
increased hostility, chaos and unnecessary social disruptions.
Cases have been reported of people affected with COVID-19 as well as
healthcare workers, sanitary workers and police, who are in the frontline for
management of the outbreak, facing discrimination on account of heightened fear and misinformation about infection. Even those who have recovered from COVID-19 face such discrimination. Further, certain communities and areas are being labeled purely based on false reports floating in social media and elsewhere.
There is an urgent need to counter such prejudices and to rise as a
community that is empowered with health literacy and responds appropriately in the face of this adversity.

Let's leave aside the who is first who is second comment.. The stigmatisation faced by frontline workers as well those who tested positive for Covid 19 has affected mentally and emotionally as well.. They fear about what the society will say rather than what the virus would do.. such is the society we live in.. let's us all do our part in developing a better society for everyone not forgetting to maintain social distance and using face mask when necessary.. 🙏

So true my dad too were suspected with Covid 19 just few months back and until the result was out he was in self-isolation and after the result came out it was negative but still my neighbour was giving that awkward looks to all our family members.

Thus far of the pandemic, we have all experienced and learnt enough to protect ourselves and our dear ones from the virus and the disease but we still lack to educate our mindset to accept them, whosoever is/was affected and keeping in mind not to carry on the stigma to discriminate them. I live just few yards away from the patient's room .. my house is surrounded by frontline workers .. the nurse opposite to my room was tested positive. We have 3 frontline workers at home.
I believed from the beginning that discrimination isn't the solution so I try my best to help and treat them normally.
