    Thanks for watching. System refurbs will continue as usual but lets take some time out to enjoy them, and that's what I plan to do more of in 2018. This is played on our T2T 486 PC and captured directly from the system. All feedback gratefully received as always as well as your memories of this cracking game. Neil - RMC.

      I would like to make a formal complaint about this video - Due to your skills of excellent description and demonstration I am now in the untenable position of having yet another excellent looking game on my ‘must play’ list. My sleep is reduced, I barely have time to eat, work has become an inconvenience, and my family are considering staging an intervention!
      Next time you wish to create an excellent video which brilliantly highlights a top quality title, will you please spare a thought for us, the disheveled, underfed, antisocial hermits out there who’s lives will be further disrupted by increased retro game play addiction! 😉

    Superb video, I spent days even weeks of my youth creating films in Stunt Island to show my college friends. Your video bought back a lot of great memories.

    Thanks for the awesome review! Really neat to see the original box, manual, and maps. It was fun to see you highlight the "gloriously 90s" website, which I created back in 1996. I was a founding member of SIFA, although my feature film "Pittjet" couldn't compare to Labor Day, Truck Wars, ID5, etc. Funny thing, Stunt Island got me into filmmaking which I still am involved with today.

    Thanks for this video. I absolutely adored Stunt Island back in the day, and spent many hours playing it with a good friend of mine who unfortunately passed away several years ago. So the game holds many special memories for me above and beyond its own merits. I'm fortunate enough to have a copy in my collection as well.

      Retrobsolete you're welcome and thank you for watching. It's interesting how strongly we can attach experiences with games to specific people or places and enjoy the memories of them as much as the games themselves. A very powerful medium.

    As someone who sunk an ungodly number of hours into Driver's replay editor- it breaks my heart to think I was spending all my time in '93 in Flight Simulator when this game was out there too. I only found out about it a year or two ago and I'm desperately trying to see as many user-created SI films as possible, especially those that were featured on SIFA. Sadly something always goes wrong with emulated versions of the game or even the re-release on GOG.com. As you've got the real deal running on the actual hardware in a way that you can somehow record- would it be possible for you to put some of these SI films up on youtube? I'm sure there are a lot of people who'd love to see those retro mini-movies once more...

    I mean at a time where pixelated graphics were top of the line such ambition in a game on floppy disc, I am speechless. All those commands and setting up things with sound effect and then editing I can't imagine what feeling it give the players back then, you come out of the room really feeling like a Director and a stuntman. I am quite sure if you ask someone from today's generation if such ambition game was possible on a computer that is slower then your Microwave today, and on only 9 floppy disc not even a ducking CD. Thank you for showing us this game.

    Wait? I'm sure 1993 was pretty much the time period that SoundBlaster was ruling the roost, as most people I knew had a creative or compatible. The SB16 was already out by then.

    • @RMCRetro
      @RMCRetro  6 років тому

      Warren Ferguson it was pretty much a done deal hence "tightened its grip" but there were still challengers like the sound source working to different standards. The game also supports the MT32 which I'm sure sounds good. Hope you liked the trip

    • @C4nn15
      @C4nn15 6 років тому +1

      Was a pretty nostalgic trip :-). I remember a lot of games from this era and the polygons, oh the polygons :-). Yeah MT-32 was nice, my stepdad who had a friend with one and we went over to his house and he put on Monkey Island... Oh my, and then the Ghostbusters game and it sounded like the movie. I guess for me 1993 was already solidly Creative as I had an SB Pro2, my stepdad an SB16, my friend as well and another with some generic one that worked the same.

    But damn, this Gameconcept redone with 2019 Graphics and Physics, with CloudServerBased Feature where everybody can share and test out the Stages of other players, and rank them and also with an ingame Video Editing easy to use to make the BEST OF Scenes....damn, i am sure it would sell good...

    Alone in the Dark is not the inspiration for Resident Evil, it's coincidence.
    Alone in the Dark may play similarly, and development did start after Alone in the Dark, but the game started as a sequel to the 1989 game Sweet Home, which was 2D but was a horror game with similar themes that was released three years before Alone in the Dark. A haunted house horror game. Sweet Home was a movie license, Capcom did not have the rights anymore, so they needed their own IP rather than creating Sweet Home 3D or Sweet Home Solid or whatever.
    Outside of the theme, the main similarities to Alone in the Dark have to do with how developers poorly handled cameras in early 3D games. The gameplay of Resident Evil is far more action oriented.
    Alone in the Dark's similarity to Resident Evil was rediscovered by the internet at some point, and since it came first it was declared the father of the unrelated Resident Evil through years of the internet telephone game repeating of facts.
