After Hearing Polaroids I went out and bought Fat City and it took me through some tough times in my youth until now as I still love the album and cherish it deeply.
Shawn came through a difficult period when she was younger, dealing with a severe depression. We are fortunate that she came through that and assumed a successful music career. She makes a big difference in our lives with her fantastic sensitivity and talent.
Fat City and this song in particularly was a breakup song. Talk about being depressed, that was the one. I didn't know she had to deal with depression. It explains the affinity to the song and why in certain ways it still brings up those feelings. Great song. Thanks for the comment.
Love this song and performance. when I first heard it, I was coming out of a rough patch and the lyrics and upbeat tempo got me through. Thanks, Shawnie! Always love ya
Awesome song, awesome video quality for a 1992 footage. I first heard this song on the radio when it first came out. I never knew who sang it until recently, and back then I did not know enough English to remember the words, but it haunted me all this time. Fast forward 20 years, thanks to my English being better, and Google, I was able to find it by lyrics at last
What an incredible band and song... just swings like crazy. Listening with headphones the mix is fantastic for a live TV performance. I miss music like this. Thanks so much for putting this up.. and yes... Stuart smith is just brilliant
My pleasure! Very glad you enjoyed the clip and sound quality, and took the time to say so. Yes, there was a time when these artists benefitted from engineers and producers who cared about such technicalities - presenting these musicians in the best possible circumstances.
@@williamhogan2744 Agreed, a guitar is out of tune but don't think it's Smith. Think it may the house-band guy. Smith's solo is in tune. And when you hear the just-out notes and the camera's on Smith, he's not doing what we hear the just-out player doing. Imho...
I agree as well. I came here because I love Shawn and I love the tune... and Steuart was fantastic here! Make no mistake, I love John too! awesome little tune So awesome it meant something to me at the time even though I didn't know for who yet
@@iansnyder274 I read some credit having Steuart playing guitar on the studio version. I KNOW this... I LOVE that Damn Solo!! www.discogs.com/Shawn-Colvin-Fat-City/release/10629572
This album stands the test of time. One great song after the other. I was probably passably handsome when this came out, but if there was a girl on the planet as pretty as Miss Colvin then, I’d be very surprised..
You can tell Shawn is psyched that Stewart Smith is nailing John Levanthal's iconic solo!!! I was wrong. I have just learned from Zac Childs who knows Steuart that he , not levanthal, played the solo on the record!
100% agree ICONIC studio solo, played so ridiculously well here. I love John but, as I noted one other place, think Steuart is the only guitarist credited on the album, for THIS song. www.discogs.com/Shawn-Colvin-Fat-City/release/10629572
Also on fat city ...solos from the fantastic Richard Thompson...SC is an artist that really shines...love that she had this and other great performances on Dave's show...
Yeah, he produced as well as super awesome producer/bassist Larry Klein who was married to Joni Mitchell. Check out Night Ride Home from Joni....my favorite with Larry on bass/producing.
What a great clip. Shawn's an American treasure.
She is so terribly undervalued
I absolutely love her. I have been a fan right from 1989 with her first album Steady On.
After Hearing Polaroids I went out and bought Fat City and it took me through some tough times in my youth until now as I still love the album and cherish it deeply.
'Fat city' is one of the many (diverse) albums I possess, and I can't help to keep returning to it. Beautiful.
Love “Polaroids.” My fave Shawn Colvin song.
Damn, this song kicks ass. My first encounter with it was on KFOG's Live from the Archives CD back in the '90s and I still love it So. Much.
I love her xx

Saw her live in Atlanta once. She has a great show. She really sings her heart out.
Her guitar player is Steaurt Smith now with The Eagles , he is an awesome guitar player

His playing is great, but he is not in tune. I wonder what happened there.

She looked terrific here . Love ROB! Thanks for uploading
What a band.
she is breathtakingly great isn't she?
Yes. have you seen any of her April 2020, shelter in place live streams on Facebook?

@@alilacherruse @IanSnyder She is doing 3 livestream ticketed concerts 8/29/2020 and so on.
What a brilliant performance - thank you for uploading this! That solo by Steuart Smith is so choice.....
+MrCleverheel You're welcome! Thanks for the note of appreciation :)
I agree...John Levanthal did the solo on the record and Steuart nailed it.... and you can tell how psyched Shawn was!!

That was amazing singing and guitar playing , she look so pretty and talented with her Martin gutar

She's quite a striking performer
Popular CD format....
There is none better.
When people actually sang through the mic instead of lip synching. Where the hell did the time go?
