Oksana Chusovitina, she is amazing. She has the goal of competing in the next Olympic Games, and she will be 42! That is so amazing! Sure, I am only as old as her kid, so 15, but she is amazing, and it wants me to continue gymnastics when I''m older.

When I saw Phan nominate up the Amanar I gawked, the DTY was a relatively recent upgrade in itself and she still did 1.5TY every now and then, then I was happy she wasn't injured. Her landing looked worse than Chantysha's!

Even though Maroney fell at the Olympics, she is still one of the all time greats on vault. Hands down.

every single time yamilet peña attempts the prudanova i have a heart attack...honestly she's been attempting that since 2011-she could be SO much more successful if she just tried for an amanar instead...

Mckayla is really the queen of vault.
she won because she had more difficulty and that is ok but she always fakes her "stuck " landings by saluting quickly when she is clearly falling over to one side or forward. Biles' stuck landings are stuck for real.

Tshukahara 2 and a half twist: 6,5
Cheng : 6,4 (round off, half turn, 1 and a half twist)
Amanar: 6,3
Chusovitina: 6,2 (handspring 1 and a half)
Mustafina: 6,0 ( Round of, half turn, 1 twist)
Tsukahara with 2 twist: 6,0
Those are the higher start values on vault..

Guilia was completley robbed. Clean lines and form. Hong however was twisting into the floor hence the huge step and she nroke form just to get to her feet. Thats gijlias medal and the judges should have recognized that!
The judges did recognize that completely... hence Hong's lower execution scores. But, Hong's total start values added up to 12.7 (6.3 6.4) and Steingruber's total was 12.00 (6.2 5.8) right away Steingruber was .7 behind in start value and it was ultimately too much ground to make up. That's the balance of the open ended code. The same problem happened to Alicia Sacramone in 2008 Olympics when she finished 4th and Cheng Fei finished 3rd after putting her hands down on her 2nd vault. Why do you think Yamilet Pena was throwing Produnova VT (7.0) she never landed it, but falling to her butt on that VT was still scoring higher than a majority of ladies.

Still not seeing the supposed overscoring of Simone Biles.
Why are you bringing Biles into it? It's about Hong, who was the clear outlier. If Biles' crossed legs on one vault is bad form, what is Steingruber's overly arching and piking down of her vaults?
I know I can't change it, but I think Steingruber earned the bronze. She had way cleaner landings, so Hong didn't deserve almost the same E-scores as Giulia:(
It's a little tiring to see Yamlit throwing out lousy Produnovas when she can barely even land them in training. I admired her bravery at first, but I think her time might be better spent on performing skills she can actually do (and much safer too). Overall, an interesting final. Like always, we see some dubious scoring, but that's the way it goes in gymnastics. Does anyone know what a Cheng vault is rated in this CoP?
Hong un Jong scored a 15.483?! Wow... that was definitely about 3 tenths overscored, especially with her landings...
Steingruber -> Good form, great landings; 15.233
Hong un Jong -> OK form, horrible landings; 15.483

Difficulty wise, Steingruber was 0.7 lower, so the end result was fair.
I'm upset Steingruber didn't medal. I think she deserved the bronze

What's the point of doing Produnova vault? Even Produnova herself didn't always land it 🤦♀️
Steingruber got robbed big-time. Her landings were nearly perfect, and her form was much better than Hong's.
Steingruber was not robbed. She scored higher than Hong in execution, so the scores are accurate. You need to consider start values. Hong had 12.7 for her two vaults and Steingruber 12.0. The .7 difference was too much too make up.
Well she wasn't exactly robbed but I wish she had gotten a medal because that Rudi was impeccable.

Phan Thị Hà Thanh doesn't train in China, she trains in Ha Noi. Commentator is wrong. She from Hai Phong and Vietnam has three Gynastic centres, Ha Noi, HCMC and Hai Phong

The BBC commentators have also said that they have never seen her land it in competition. I think that it's amazing she hasn't hit her head on her knees when she sits it down on the landing. Maybe that's why she pulls the knees apart?
Also, you might want to watch Giulia's first vault again, she definitely has a leg separation going onto the vault table. It also looks like she takes a little step or slide on both landings, however slight. Although Simone's hop might be a little bigger, I don't think it is big enough to take the larger .3 landing deduction. Even if Simone was a few tenths overscored, it wouldn't change the results.
Seriously, though? Why is Biles getting all the negativity when Hong Un Jong was clearly the biggest beneficiary of the vault judging?
Besides, what are you taking from Simone? There's the crossed legs (.1), the flexed feet (.1), the hop (.1), and maybe one other thing. Where are your deductions coming from?
No u have all the deductions in fact I believe that makaylas amanar was overscored as she went out of bounds, took a step, off balance and our of alignment

Giulia doesn't cross her feet, her legs are almost together all the way from the preflight to the landing and stuck both of her vaults in the centre. Biles cross her feet, had nice form until she lands she separate her legs, had hopes and landed sidewards, all this in both vaults. The overscoring is clear.
Maroney is Amazing.. If we where to hve a vault showdown.. between the best vaulters in the world.. at there best like Simona Amanar, Monica Rosu, Cheng Fei, Alicia Sacramone, Yelena Zamolodchikova, Hong Un Jong.. Mckayla gets first without a question.. Im just hoping for her to have her own vault.. Like a TTY or even a tsukahara 2.5... It would be amazing.. Cheng Fei and Monica Rosu are second. there Amanars were amazing too.. but not as good as Mckayla
8 years later and answer will be simone biles, she has two of the hardest vaults down yurchenko double pike and the the round off half turn with a double layout twist.
She so incredible. By then her son will be older than some of her competitors. What a badass woman.

Btw, for the one that syas its a double front vault... its the produnova, and its triple not double, even harder... its a boy vault and anyone have done it yet like elena produnova. so stop hating before knowing.
She can't land the vault. Period. What is the point of doing something over and over when you are clearly not capable of doing it? She needs to either train it more or do different vaults. She is going to kill herself.

Hong had SV's of 6,3 and 6,4 as opposed to Giulia who started from a 6,2 and 5,8. Hong therefore had a 0.7 advantage over Giulia before she even vaulted. Plus, I don't understand what you mean by "messy execution in the air". Hong was pretty clean in the air actually...
This is by far the most painful and agonizing vault competition. So many dangerous and hard landings, and you can just feel someone is gonna blow an acl. Poor girl, maybe Rio was worse lol

So why has Oksana gone back to UZB after all this time? I know she was coaching the UZB women's gymnastics team while she was in Germany but I thought that she had stopped competing completely, not just for Germany.
The execution score of Hong Un Jong's first vault is 9.2xx? Her form is really nice but those steps!

i don't understand how Hong Un Jong scored higher than Giulia... Her sloppy landings and messy execution in the air is almost pathetic to see on the podium compared to Giulia... Such a shame that she was a victim of unfair judging.. she deserved that bronze medal

She's got a great on her handspring vault! She get's plenty of height there. Yurchenko's not as high, but still clean!
She get's height, just not the same height as Hong, Biles and Maroney. But Hong was just not on. HUGE step...

yes I still think is she wants to be competion she needs to upgrade her yurchenko.. or do it perfect.. kinda like kyla ross.. who does a simple vault.. but perfectly executed.. Im pretty shore she can do a Amanar, a Mustafina.. or a more complicated vault..but her Rudi, its amazing.. kinda like Alicia Sacramone! the same thing happens to her.. good execution.. not enough difficulty.. and gets robbed all the time..

her expectation was to win gold. and she met her expectations. that explains it all, imo. but i agree -- the USA women gymnasts have such high expectations of themselves (and that's why they're so brilliant), but at times it is disconcerting/confusing for a viewer to see them to achieve victory and just react like "ok yea"
I think she was more relieved. She hit this time unlike London, hence being a little conservative about her reaction.

Mckayla is so much better than Simone in form.. and steingruber too.. even i think Hong un jong has better form.. but her landings are bad.. and height and lenght could be better.. i was just trying to explain that form isn't everything in a vault..

Unfortunaly.. even though she is amazing.. has good form.. she doesn't get much height or lenght.. that's a big deduction.. Biles.. does not have a good form.. and has a big tep.. but has height and lenght.. which are worth more in the eyes of the judges.. :(

I think the judges took notice in Mckayla's height off of the table, which is why Maroney would score higher than Biles. They both have their own deductions (like Biles and her flexed/crossed toes, and Maroney having the slightest tuck in her twisting).

especially because maroney didnt stuck that first landing at all. I am impressed she got a higher execution for some reason. Anyway I agree with her gold medal because anyway she had a 0.4 higher difficulty on the second vault so eventually she was gonna win anyways; but she always "fakes" those "stuck" landings by saluting quickly while she is falling over.

I THINK STEINGRUBER SHOULD UPGRADE ONE OF HER VAULTS.. BECAUSE HER RUDI IS AMAZING!! .. BUT SHE SHOULD CONSIDERE UPGRADE HER YURCHENKO.. TO A TSUKAHARA DOBLE TWIST (6,0) OR A MUSTAFINA (6,0).. SHE IN AA FEW MAYBE CAPABLE OF THE AMANAR.. OR A CHENG.. BUT I THINK SHE SHOULD BE A SPECIALIST ON VAULT.. AND SHE COULD GET SO MANY MEDALS.. DOING THE ALL AROUND.. JUST TAKES AWAY ALOT OF TIME..

Hong's legs during her Cheng vault were super messy. I mean, I thought the Russians chucked their vaults in the 2010 Worlds finals, but Hong takes the cake.

Wait, there was a grand total of one time she landed it in competition, in a World Cup. She managed to land on her feet in a deep squat. Still, when 99% of the time your not even standing it up, it's time to move on. I dislike it when gymnasts chuck skills they can't even do. I think she cowboys it so she can see the ground.
I think that Steingruber and Maroney were underscored and Biles and Hong were overscored. I think that the judges should've taken more off on that huge step, but Hong was cleaner in the air

Im not a American hater.. at all.. i personally dont think mustafina's vault are good.. or even simone's.. that's what i think.. i think mustafina's are triple helicopter legs.. haha .. I personally dont like simone's gymnastics.. i think she is great, humble.. and nice competitor.. but i just dont liike her gymnastics.. Maroney i like only on vault, and Mutafina in bars.. aand maybe floor.. nothing else..
