Well young lady, I am an old coot, and when I was your age we had a Ford tractor to use a sickle bar on for cutting a 20 acre pasture. It was the neatest old tractor and I always had a soft spot for the Ford tractor. I watch in awe at your skills and wondered, if I ever had to do something like that, could I do it. After watching the tutorial I believe I could. You are better than any manual ever will be. You are organized in dismantling and trouble shooting the problem, organized with spare parts as well as kits, and you have the warmest smile of any mechanic I have ever seen. Most mechanics are a bit salty in demeanor and they look like they could use an oil change. I don't know what your career will be but whatever you choose you will be the best I am sure.

Best tractor tutorials I have ever seen. I have an 861 Ford tractor that's been sitting under a barn shed for many years.
You have inspired me to rebuild it. Thanks.

Dan and Rachel - thanks for the videos. After 23 years of use, my 8N hydraulics were sketchy. Your videos took a lot of the mystery out of the hydraulic system. I purchased your top lid rebuild kit, pump rebuild kit, and a couple more parts. Finished rebuilding it last night and it lifts great now!

Hi Rachel , I am so excited , I just bought a 195? Ford 800 5 speed . It was a Barn find . Hasn't ran in 10-20 years possibly . With your help , videos tutorials and parts it sure makes it so much easier to tackle . Keep up the good work .

Rachel, you're doing a great job of explaining how and why you are fixing a problem. I'd like to see you slow down and tell us that we need to clean all the bad grease out of the inner parts of the main tractor. You can't get these things to clean. Your fix will last longer and you will be a happier young lady. I have a Fordson Dexta that needs a clutch put in it. When it warms up I'll have a go at it. I completely restored this tractor from front to back, everything. I wish now I'd have put a new clutch in it. Mine has live power so I have two clutches in it. It's a great little tractor. Keep up the good work your doing quite well, just take your time and you will do a lot better. And don't worry that your video is going to be long, If my tractor needed what your doing to your tractor I'd love to see it all go together, I'm sure everyone will watch it till the end.
    God Bless you youngin

You guys do a really good job. I enjoy your videos. They are very well done. I use them as reminders and points of reference before I start tearing something apart. It might be good to do a video on replacing 8n axle seals. Maybe include a little tidbit on how the brakes don't seem to work very well sometimes when the axle seals are bad and the oil is leaking all over the shoes and drums.... I am about to get into that today. I find myself wishing you guys had a video on it... Thanks!

WOW, Just WOW, she knows her stuff, Thanks for your video, it is very informative and helped my better understand several things on these old tractors. I have an old Ford 3000 Diesel. Having lift problems and will not shift into 1st and 3rd (odd shift pattern, 1st & 3rd are far right up 1st and down 3rd). I think the end of my shift rod may be bent and not letting it move over far enough to get into gear. I unbolted the top cover so it would slide around and it goes into all gears fine, but when i tighten all the bolts back up no right side gears. Appreciate any opinions or ideas to solve this.

What could be my trouble ?

Great videos you have. Question for you as I have a Ford 8n that I was plowing with and hit a tree root big enough to stop my tractor. Once unstuck, my hydraulics won't lift up at all. Have taken the top cover off and made sure the rod went back into the proper position and while apart made sure the oil pumps up through the pipe. The draft control plunger spring is loose and will be changing it out. Would this be the only reason the lift arms will not move up? Every thing I see inside the hydraulic system looks and works as it should. Thanks for your input. Mark

A friend of mine had an 8N and not only were the hydraulic sluggish, but the draft wouldn't work. A mechanic drained it and put in hydraulic oil but was even worse. We drained it and put in the mineral oil and it worked much better. I suspect the pump may have needed this repair.

Dan and or Rachel: I drained the fluid from my transmission on an 8N I purchased yesterday. I saw that it said to use 5 gallons of fluid, which I did use but now the "FULL" mark on the dipstick is about in the middle of the actual level on the dipstick. Any common causes for that issue? Thank you much for the video. I am going to use this information to diagnose why the 3 point does not work on my tractor.
