  • Today I am sharing an experience of last week that included a lovely morning of throwing up! Thankfully, it didn't last long, but it was a great reminder that I don't aways get to know why I feel sick. Sometimes it just happens!
    I know many others experience nausea and vomiting like this when it comes to GI illnesses like Crohn's Disease, so I thought I would share this.

    Hi, I'm Maggie and I have Crohn's disease. I am thrilled to be here sharing my personal experiences with Inflammatory Bowel Disease as well as living with an ostomy. I'm proud to share a little bit from a clinical experience as well, having worked as a GI pediatric nurse and ostomy telehealth nurse. I am so glad you are here. ♥ #ostomy #ibd #chronicillness

      Vomiting is worse when the nausea doesn’t go away and you have nothing left to throw up but blood

    I have lupus and am on chemo and plaquenil and I vomit way too often...zofran has rarely helped me so I did talk to my gastro about it and he helpfully gave me phenergan instead. It has given me so much more effective relief with the added benefit of helping me rest when I'm sick as well. I pray that your Dr will listen and help you too🙏 happy st Patrick's 🍀 and hope you recover quickly.

      Omg, I was on chemo drugs for my lupus last year and I STILL haven’t stopped throwing up! And Zofran never does much. Compazine suppositories help a bit. Last weekend I was at an urgent care and they prescribed me Diclegis. I have yet to try it, though, because it requires a prior authorization. Ugh!

    This has been happening to me too on and off since October. It's so weird. Zofran is a hit or miss with me too. Unfortunately most other antiemetics are contraindicated for me as many give me seizures. Ginger candies seem to help a bit though. So far I haven't been able to find an answer as to why this is happening. I'm glad you're feeling better! People really need to stop asking about pregnancy. I'm so sorry you have to deal with that.

    I've had Crohn's Disease for over 40 years and an ileostomy for about 32 years now. I know exactly what you're talking about, as I've probably dealt with just about every issue you can think of. After all of that, I was in a very bad car accident about 6 years ago where my seatbelt saved my life, but also caused enough damage to my abdomen where I almost died of septic shock multiple times. I was kept in an induced coma for 3 weeks while the GI surgeon took me into the OR every other day for a total of 8 surgeries to keep fixing the leaks. After all of that, I have a lot of internal scar tissue with a partial obstruction due to a herniation that happened in a final reconnection surgery. My point is that I have a pretty difficult gut and situation at this point in my life, but in time have found a way to work with it and still have what I consider a good life experience most days. Good luck to you and all the other folks out there dealing with these types of issues!

    It’s terrible you have to feel bad asking for a good drug that will help you. I’m a couple decades older than you and can tell you that sometimes there is no explanation for feeling sick. I would sometimes think I would never feel well again and would despair. But I did get better and I think you will too.sending you lots of prayers and warm wishes. I have A.S. since 17. Had thyroid cancer 7 years ago at 55 and was recently diagnosed with Chrones.
    About two years ago I started having sudden onset of projectile vomiting and daihorea. It usually started in the middle of the night. I would also have severe stomach cramps which would last up to 17 hours. It wasn't until the third or fourth time that I also noticed that maybe six hours prior, it would be preceded by a rush of what felt like going into shock. It would last maybe 5 seconds and then disappear. It was a feeling I knew from years of having migraines.
    So, next time I experienced that shock rush, I did what I had learnt to do when feeling a migraine coming on, and that was to take two Benadryl and go to bed. Since this realization, I have managed to stop the whole cramp, vomiting, diarrhea episodes all but twice in the last year. I keep meaning to contact a migraine research center and ask them about stomach migraine, but ....
    Anyway it's something to think about...

    I’m so sorry for the nausea. When I was undergoing chemo, Zofran lost effectiveness for me. It was given intravenously along with my chemo and I was sent oral tabs home after my infusions…but I understand you when you say it just isn’t working for you-it stopped for me as well. I hope your doctor prescribes you an alternative to try. Do your best to stay hydrated. I know it all sucks. 😢

    When I was younger and still had my period, I used to have situations like this. I usually got so dehydrated that I wound up in the ER. It turns out for me that it was caused by HORMONES. it usually happened a day or two before my period. I totally sympathize. It sucks.

    Thanks for sharing this with us. Maggie I can so relate to being ill and at times not knowing why. Having a chronic illness means there will be down days and we don't always know the cause, i.e., was it something I ate, drank, didn't eat, exercise, lack thereof, not enough sleep and on and on. I know with me if I am eating too much junk (which is rare these days) I will have a bad couple of days. Other times no explanation whatsoever. When I first was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when I was 16, there were times I got really frustrated with doing everything I was supposed to and still not getting good results. Turns out I am brittle which is rare but happens. I have been diagnosed with this which means no explanation for highs and lows (not occasional like some people) but often. So I am learning to go with the flow and just take it as it is. Loved your analysis of ostomy patients on TikTok and how to treat yourself when you have a bad day. Self-care is so important. 💗

    I have to take an interesting accumulation of vitamins and meds. Sometimes it makes me nauseous, sometimes it doesn't. I get frustrated because I always say that I do not mind making mistakes in anything as long as I can learn something to improve future outcomes. A nice mission statement, but sometimes the universe just chooses chaos. Good there is an upcoming medical appointment, definitely add recent event to the list of discussion points, plus mention the recent air travel and hotel stay.

    I am an old man. A few years ago I had surgery removing a section of my colon. I was initially on the bag for three months, but again had surgery to get connected back up and things went really wrong where the connection leaked and was back on it for more months. The infections caused more surgeries and two years of a tough time. Luckily I am in good shape today and no bag. After seeing a few of your videos I feel so badly for you. More especially because of the other illnesses. You are a beautiful and good young lady. I hope and pray that the cause of your illness will be found and will have no more feeling sick and what comes with it. Take care and God bless.

    I’m sorry you weren’t feeling good. I’ve been having a week a month where I can’t really eat because of the pain and I’m so nauseous. I had a colonoscopy last Thursday and the only thing they saw was scar tissue from my colectomy in 2014. It’s so frustrating when we feel bad but my new GI says nothings wrong. I’ve had to take Oxy for the pain because over the counter stuff isn’t helping. Hopefully we both can get some answers soon.

I was feeling off Thursday and Friday. Friday was the worst day. Stomach/abdominal pain, achy, headaches, and many trips to the bathroom. I can deal with all those things on a daily basis, except the abdominal pain and nausea. Note if I could just get one of my medical team to prescribe IV fluids, I'd be great! Your fur baby has also proven yet again, to be an excellent ESA for you💜🐶

    It took us 8 years of trying to get our son. We gave ourselves until I turned 32 to conceive. Still enough time to go through IVF and not be a geriatric patient. We found out on the eve of our 10th wedding anniversary. Shocked the hell out of us! I had been really sick but had taken a test that came back negative. I finally went to the doctor and she said it was negative too, but she went back to check it one more time and it had turned positive. Not only that, but I was almost 3 months along. Greatest surprise I've ever gotten! I get the not wanting intervention. We have spent so many years being a patient and wish that one thing could just go normally. You'll know if and when you're ready to take the next steps. We'll be rooting you and Zak on!

    I've had U.C. for 37 years now, & I periodically have unexplained nausea. It's HORRIFIC, because I am COMPLETELY PHOBIC about anybody vomiting, or if it's me! It's SOO embarrassing!!
    I've just had a lot of nausea over the weekend, & was having to use my Zofran regularly.
    Once, about 2 years ago, I had uncontrollable vomiting, & went to the E.R. They gave me I.V. Zofran, which didn't stop it, then they gave me I.V. Kytril, & I still kept vomiting. Then they gave me another bag of Zofran & I finally stopped vomiting. That was a truly awful day for somebody with emetophobia!! Nope... its been a year at first I did that every month or so, now it was 3 weeks in a row last. 2 to 3 days each week. Labs were not good Tuesday during episode, now today at ER. Labs ok except alkaline tests higher than normal. Same here zofran, dosent work because this comes on so fast no warning. Too late to take it

    I am so sorry to hear this. I say what I am going to say as a UC patient who also suffers from GAD. I do not want to minimize your physical issues in any way, shape, or form. Could your nausea and vomiting be caused by stress at all? I know that nausea and vomiting come with both conditions for me and nausea and vomiting are my bodies way of expressing stress. Maybe I never caught a video of it, will search. Regardless, feel better and know it will pass one end or the other, one way or the other!

    Are you perhaps near the end of your Humira cycle? This sounds to me like when I come to the end of my biologic coverage and my CRP (C reactive protein) elevates. I always get nauseous for a couple of days then it goes away after my next infusion. Sometimes I even have to take Prednisone for a couple of days so I don't get dehydrated and get kidney stones. I hope you get some answers soon 🤞

    When you puke does the cramping of your stomach muscles make your stoma more active? Does it get sore from the muscles around it being tightened if you puke/dry heave for a long period of time?
    Glad you're feeling better. Hope your icky days are limited❤️

    Maggie, how often do you get IV fluids. Also, what medication are you on that leaves you immune compromised? I used to be on a monthly Benlysta infusion for my Lupus. It worked SO well. But I’ve moved and the continuation of care is not great. I have the option of driving 2 hours both ways to start it again in Los Angeles, but with the cost of gas (and the HORRENDOUS housing prices) out here, I can’t afford to.

    • @LetsTalkIBD
      @LetsTalkIBD  Рік тому

      Right now I get IV fluids every 2 weeks! I'm on Humira!
      That is so tough!! That was one of the reasons I chose the medication I did - I was offered this (an injectable) or an infusion medication and chose Humira because I knew it would be tough getting somewhere to get my infusion. Now I'm laughing because I go to get fluids far more often than I would have gotten remicade, but at least Humira works for me and is easy to take!

    • @Fighting.Butterflies
      @Fighting.Butterflies Рік тому

      @@LetsTalkIBD yeah. They have an injectable version of Benlysta which I want to try. My Dad had Crohn’s and he took Humira. His Crohn’s wasn’t diagnosed until he was 60, but I think he had it A LOT longer than that. It was pretty much refractory to medicine and biologics, but because he had a heart condition, he could only have one surgery to treat it. I wish they’d caught the Crohn’s earlier (he died of AFib sudden;y, right before Christmas in 2016, three hours after we left his cardiologist’s office, where he was told that he was doing better than he had in 18 months…not so much!). Fully 75% of my Dad’s side of my family have autoimmune diseases. Crohn’s, Scleroderma, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Lupus, and I’m sure I’m forgetting some. I’m hesitant to stop the infusions because I have chronically low potassium (usually critical low when I get there), due to two GI conditions caused by Lupus that make me nauseous any 🤮 all the time. They always catch it and treat it immediately when I go. I also have reactive hypoglycemia (Lupus sucks, as do Crohn’s and all the others). I’ve also got chronically low protein and low calcium. Saline infusions don’t help with that, do they? I’m afraid I’m going to end up on a feeding tube, as I’ve lost 80 lbs in the last year, unintentionally.

      @@LetsTalkIBD btw, Zofran doesn’t work for me either. Have you ever tried Diclegis? I just found out about it’s existence last week, but I haven’t tried it yet (waiting for a prior auth. So fun! 😂). If I couldn’t laugh at these things, I’d never stop crying.

    This could seem extremely ignorant whats not intentional. But could relief band help at all? Not as a solution but more to help with the nausea. I'd advise watching a UA-cam short but tbh spending 250 on something you don't no is garunteed to help a little might be a disappointment. Maybe ask the doctors what they think of using a relief band in your position because it's not cheap and I wrote this comment to help last thing I want is you spending money on something that won't help at all. But anyways you wear it like a watch, and it stimulates the nerve on your wrist by sending pulses to the stomach helping with travel and morning sickness. Anyways there's a UA-cam short on it.
