I don't say this casually - Andor is next-level Star Wars. The story-crafting, the character development, the attention to detail. I don't believe we've ever seen anything quite like it. And while I don't think that everything going forward in the franchise needs to be made in the same mold, this is really, really good.

It feels more grounded in reality. We’re seeing a guy getting caught up fast in a situation he didn’t intend to become part of having a run in with police while at a bar, trying to move a hot item follow up with a bank robbery and then trying to lay low. No Jedi no sith just normal people in multiple alphabet agencies hunting down a dude on the run. To the poster that said it’s mature sci fi that’s spot on. This version of Star Wars feels more like the sci fi show the Expanse I hope more Star Wars shows take this direction of world building

Fun detail for episode 7 of Andor - the last sound effect is a jail cell door slamming shut.

I've really been enjoying how Andor has taken Star Wars back to the core of what the Original Trilogy was. Lucas has stated many times that the Empire was meant to be a damning commentary on the US during the Vietnam Era. Even said Palpatine was based on Nixon. So seeing Andor continually go for the throat with commentary about the US, like with this, is great. While the US has done it for different reasons [Antebellum economy turning into our modern prison labor economy due to Southern sympathizers shafting Reconstruction], we do the same thing. Mass inarceration for profit, for slave labor, is how our economy thrives. If abolished, our economy would collapse. Andor really gets Star Wars, and what the themes and imagery of the OT really meant.

A few people have noted that when someone was sent to gulag their families were often retaliated against. Fired, kicked out of housing, their wwii era ration cards taken. This is pretty much a death sentence. Also; I have some family accounts. I had uncles who went to the gulag who I knew / met and great grandfather. 8 relatives in total. All lived through it...

    Great video.
The whole ‘human (& non-human) capital’ is lifted directly from Nazi Germany (like most of the Empire). Germany quickly outstripped its internal production capacity as wave after wave of able-bodied German men were sent off to the front lines, so they turned to slave labor from the conquered territories. Timeghost’s WW2 channel has some great episodes covering this in their War Against Humanity series.
Also, because all sci-fi is derivative of itself the Imperium of Man from Warhammer 40,000 is another fascist entity that spends human capital at an egregious rate.

While I agree with you, there is one part of Palps plan that you might be missing. Suffering. Sith thrive of the suffering and pain. They derive strength and power from negative emotions and hate. Palpatine is intentionally increasing the misery of the galaxy. Perhaps it has to do with some Sith ritual or design he is trying to fufill... but it clearly an intentional choice to make as many people suffer as much as possible... it always seemed to be part of the imperial model, that no one except the guy at the top understands.
One theory? By increasing suffering you make the emergence of a new jedi order less likely. The darker the galaxy, the more brightly the light of the Jedi will shine, making it easier to track them down. He has been obsessed with ending the order permanently so perhaps what seems like malfeasance by the emperor is part of that obsession?

Where the plates are the basis envolved in clothes that also are fixing your feet there... Perhaps the companions without shoes can stand over the working benches and do not get fried during the initial moves of a breaking out attempt. Another thing is, in case all levels try to escape at once, or to take control of their levels at once, then the guards cannot fired all levels at onces, they will blow the electric system, because a single level already stop the electricity general system, so all levels at once may fried the general electric circuit.

Part of the reason for the intentional oppression and corruption, even at the expense of efficiency and detriment of the Empire itself, is the actual oppression and corruption. From those trailer shots Iam pretty sure they are making those K-security droids, or parts for them. Would give him a chance to pick up his cool buddy. I mean, they did just shoved those droids in the show on screen to make everyone go 'ooh yeah he had one of those in the movie!', Iam sure they won't leave us hanging with that ;) xD

Above all economic practicality, Palpatine, as a Sith Lord, feasts upon & thrives over the galaxy’s collective anger, hate & pain. His ultimate issue: being able to control all that suffering, halting it from becoming a legitimate reckoning. His & their hubris was his downfall.

In a way it sort of is.
In star wars human and humanoid characters are almost always seen wearing shoes. (Actually almost always boots.) Only certain alien species are seen not wearing shoes because of culture, their feet aren't compatible/are resilient enough not to need them, or they don't have feet.

Replace PORD with GULAG and you have a nice analogue for real world political systems. That's the real value of Star Wars since its creation: A good way to explore the complexities of political systems taken to the nth degree. The real genius of Lucas' construct is that it explores both side of the ideological divide: Capitalism and Socialism are equally scrutinised - thus exposing the real sources of tyranny... Monopoly, authoritarianism, political-detachment by the masses, ineffective regulation and government over reach, control of media and historical narrative. ... ANDOR is the best SW series since the clone wars.

You always assume that Palpatine is in the business of running an empire. He is not. He's in the business of spreading as much fear, pain and misery as he can because he's an Emperor second, but an evil Space Wizard first. The fear and misery translates to power in the Dark Side, and that is what he's talking about when he refers to ultimate power. A dark being he is; not that frail flesh.

There’s a Star Wars following who prefer science fiction over fantasy, whose imagination has been captured by a universe that’s been fleshed out enough to feel almost real, but are ultimately frustrated that its potential is squandered when storytelling is limited to children’s fantasies.
I’m amazed at how many comments I’ve read from Andor fans who are delighted with the realistic characters and wealth of mundane detail in the show that help ground the Star Wars universe in the believable.

  • @likeluptid
    @likeluptid 2 роки тому

The biggest, most humorous thing about the entire show, so far, is how QUICKLY the people in the show, knowing very little about what the Rebellion is, of course, will consider anything a Rebel attack, and can consider anyone to be a Rebel. Cassian was assaulted by crooked cops and he ended up becoming guilty of manslaughter. Sgt Mosk gave a subtle hint of the possibility that Cassian could have acted in behalf of the 'fomenting pockets' of rebellion against the Empire. Afterward, Karn considers Cassian a Rebel and says it straightforwardly. I'm not sure who, but I think that either Luthen or Mothma is part of a Rebel cell, and it desperately needs money. He has been hoping for at least 6 months to get that money from Mothma, but, as a fallback plan, he recruited a ragtag group of people for only 1 thing, a robbery. The important thing is that he gets the money, but taking it from the Empire is a bonus. But he spoke to each of them as if the robbery was more than that, its primary purpose is to attack the Empire, and each person believed him. Skeen and Cassian were in it only for the money. Nemik whole-heartedly thought he was part of a rebellion. The 2 women could really be part of a rebel cell somewhere that the robbery is supposed to support, but I don't know. Either way, only HOURS, not days, when the crime scene and necessary interviews, and a thorough investigation has already passed, but literally HOURS after the heist, it's already in the news that there was "a large Rebel attack." Nothing less than an assumption, that just happens to not be true. Deedra Meero sees that a Starpath Unit has gone missing, and IMMEDIATELY her mind is made up that the theft was part of a coordinated effort by the Rebellion. Cassian was only trying to get a couple of dollars to get away from Ferrix, pay back debts, clap some cheeks, and buy some nice "styling and profiling" clothes, and take care of his foster mother. He's no Rebel, and he has nothing at all to do with rebel activity. Everyone is so quick to blame it on the Rebellion, but nobody really knows much about it. And in Deedra's Witch hunt to make a simple robbery into something infinitely more than what it actually was, she found solid evidence of what Bail Organa has been doing for at least 14 years secretly, of course. He's been using his wealth, political influence and power to lead humanitarian relief efforts to planets suffering because of the Empire, something we saw him do several times during the Clone Wars. He's been working with various independent rebel cells, and coordinating activities with them so that they work as a unified group. And that network of Rebel Cells associated with Organa's Rebellion has grown a LOT. And, as we've seen him do before, he refit small ships and freighters with the military equipment that the Rebel cells have appropriated from the Empire, to make those small ships combat capable ships. Just when you thought you were a pirate about to rob a freighter, it surprises you with Imperial weapons that will leave your ship shattered into pieces. As far as I know, Deedra mightbe the first person outside the Rebellion to find evidence that it really does exist as a unified network of Rebel cells. She will never know that Organa is it's current leader. And, again, nobody knows that there a large scale Rebellion, and that there are also many independent rebel cells with activities unrelated to the Rebellion. To most people in the show, all of it, even things that aren't Rebellion, are Rebellion. I nearly fainted when Deedra told what she learned from the report she produced

So i had this theory that part of the madness of the galaxy in the days of the empire with how chaotic and unstable yet stable the system was
Was also in part to fuel Palpatines Ego or his darkside power
Rage,Fear,Anger, love, lust, passion are things we all feel And all force users can use these feelings but like most sith palpatine thrives of an unhealthy uncontrolled amount at the expense of those around as a result what does he do. He uses the galaxy as a battery to generate the easiest form of "Dark Side" Force power and one thing to note despite him being an ego psychopath he does not have a god complex and is more times more logical than emotional in many ways he knows how to channel his emotions into more healthy forms of productivity...Just at the expense of those around him...He is a master gas lighter and master troller... I doubt he actually even cared for the ideals of the empire so as long as it served him which is why he was fine with various people getting away with neglecting or outside betraying imperial law at times.
