    Nick's interview after this fight might be the best interview of any fighter ever. When he said "that little fker hit me with a hadouken" I laughed so hard it hurt. Nick was must see TV in the early days

      He was probably able to finish in large part because he beat the piss out of his opponent on the feet and he was absolutely exhausted. After that shot, he was probably ready for a way out

    Different era of fighting. PRIDE just seemed to be on a grander scale than the UFC, it was like ancient Rome, gladiators doing combat in the coliseum.

    This is on my short list for best fights of all time. Gomi was the #1 ranked lightweight in the world at the time and Diaz subbed with him an omoplata which is insanely hard to pull off, especially against someone as highly rated at Gomi

    I was there for this event. This is the single greatest live sports moment I've ever been a part of. The whole event was phenomenal and is still one of the best events ever, but this fight was still EXCEPTIONAL. This is just an all-time classic fight. One of the few 10/10s.

      They do. They mix up pop shots until they get a clean shot. Then it's 100% , but he keeps it at a pacing so it's a constant flow of shots.

    My favorite lightweight fight of all time!! This is one of the best fights of all time and it's such a shame it was ruled a no contest cause Diaz popped for marijuana.. he was stoned AF during this fight and fought his ass off!!

      Diaz is a pos. After gomi tapped and he saw it and saw the ref stopping it he gave the submission some extra torque for a quick sec.. watch closely at Nick's face when he does it. You don't do that

      @@tokargaifydiaz arguably got hit with the hardest shots in his career in this fight, definitely took the most damage but dayley hit just as hard as gomi, idk dude i been hit by a big ass body builder when i was a untrained fighter and that’s the closest i’ve been to being in diaz’s position in this fight, there’s not a thing going through your mind saying that you need to be careful with how you submit your opponent’s, sorry dude but that was a man close to death i probably would’ve held on longer just from the shock of being hit so hard but there’s no one like nick, he is the true goat.

      Amateurish level of striking, one guy gasing out round 1 although he didn't do anything taxing in energy, how is that "one of the best fights of all time" ? Even unranked dudes in the UFC these days are ten times better.

    I was there for that fight...the second Gomi hit him with that wild hook the entire arena EXPLODED. Wild card, every fight ended in KO or sub except for 1. One of the best MMA shows I ever saw

      This was actually the second. The first happened not even two months earlier when Shinya Aoki tapped Joachim Hansen. It was beautiful, but it wasn't as sweet as this one. Nick countered a takedown with a gogoplata, like it was a guillotine. And this one was all one motion.

    At 1:20, when he pulls him back into guard, he kisses him on the cheek. The Diaz brothers, genuinely had the fighting game completely figured out from the beginning. These guys, have always, and will always be - legends.

      That's not high level boxing at all, and the other dude gased out first round, tells you more about his lack of cardio than Nick's good cardio tbf

    I was at this fight. I met Nick post fight. Met Shogun. Watched one of my favorite fighters Hendo knockout, the axe murderer. Then I partied with Chuck Liddell at Pur nightclub at Caesars palace. I watched Tim Sylvia wait outside while I went in.

    This is one match I really wish Nick could talk about. Was Nick really high during the fight and was Gomi drunk or had a hangover? It was the funniest match I've seen.

    gomi is a legend one of my favorite fighters ever. he just didn't know he was fighting a Diaz brother. I miss pride so much RIP
