I was there for this event. This is the single greatest live sports moment I've ever been a part of. The whole event was phenomenal and is still one of the best events ever, but this fight was still EXCEPTIONAL. This is just an all-time classic fight. One of the few 10/10s.
It stammers the opponent so bad, they can’t recover and throw anything good back at them. And if they try to shoot them to stop the flurry, they get a leg around their neck

This was actually the second. The first happened not even two months earlier when Shinya Aoki tapped Joachim Hansen. It was beautiful, but it wasn't as sweet as this one. Nick countered a takedown with a gogoplata, like it was a guillotine. And this one was all one motion.
I didn’t respect gomi before this, and I didn’t know Diaz. So, this was a true gift of a fight for me, and it will always be treasured! Thank you for sharing!
At 1:20, when he pulls him back into guard, he kisses him on the cheek. The Diaz brothers, genuinely had the fighting game completely figured out from the beginning. These guys, have always, and will always be - legends.

I was at this fight. I met Nick post fight. Met Shogun. Watched one of my favorite fighters Hendo knockout, the axe murderer. Then I partied with Chuck Liddell at Pur nightclub at Caesars palace. I watched Tim Sylvia wait outside while I went in.
This is one match I really wish Nick could talk about. Was Nick really high during the fight and was Gomi drunk or had a hangover? It was the funniest match I've seen.
I feel bad for MMA die hard fans who missed this era - it was the best era hands down. PRIDE was just amazing.

When you change your passion for glory......it happens to a lot of famous fighters. Connor comes to mind. They lose the "eye of the tiger". It's true.
You can't stay on top forever in mma but Gomi was the man to beat back in those days. He was a real bad ass.
