I was at the new years eve concert in 1998 at Caroline Bay (Timaru) and Dinah blasted onto the stage and lit it up with The Blue Beat. She started at 100MPH and never let up. Happy memories.

She is my cousin my Grandmother told me, although I don't think she realised how famous she was, she just said something about that side being 'in the circus'! Lol!!! Good Jewish girl, keeps her dress demure.

This was No1 for weeks in the mid 60's. Dinah is a Kiwi girl who went on to settle in Ozzie as she found success there with a release of this track.

Blue beat=first wave of UK style of Ska

It sounded exotic to Kiwis in 1964, but was really a very poppy adaptation of Ska. Mind you, Millie Small was probably trying to sound poppy with "My Boy Lollipop"!

I loved her as a teenager but my father didn't like her as she wore pants and had short hair

That's amazing. Women wore pants and had short hair back in the 1920s . Was your dad very religious?
