LOL!! It's amazing how only something like this resounds during a crisis. Try putting a little love in you heart before, during and after a crisis. I'll never understand the common person. Actually, I do. Dull, boring and predictable. Try expanding your vision beyond what is in front of you. That goes for all the other dullards that responded to your comment. Sorry folks, but you are just that boring and predictable. Try stepping it up a bit if you can.
I just don't understand the (currently) 208 people that would "thumbs down" this song?!?!?! One of the best of the era and this era has the best music EVER!!!!
Uneducated people WOULDNT appreciate this kind of music. As for the Beatles anyone can compare them to any other group of the sixties I’m a SIXTIES fan and they don’t come into my CATORGRY many more groups were better than them. And still going today. Jackie D was in a class of her own great singer and songwriter ❤
The late 60's and early 70's had some great 'hippie songs' with artists such as Sly and Family Stone and Jackie DeShannon. We need the hippie era again, Come Together Now...
Yes!!!!! The summer of 1969, when I was only eight, going into the third grade. I have fond memories of that summer; riding bicycles, hot summer days, wiener roasts / picnics, dirt roads, seeing my friend Reagan on a mini-bike as I spied on him in the woods, watermelon, Reeses peanut butter cups (cost .10) and a family trip to Mt. McKinley. That was 39 years ago! How sweet and innocent things seemed way back then. God bless our Vietnam Vets!!
It's so good to see so many people posting positive vibes about this song and it's message. Jackie D really hit a groove here. A lovely song and a lovely woman.
It's never to late to "Put a little Love in Your Heart". Song still resonates true, 40 yrs later. Love this song, and this special lady. Tnx 4 posting!
I know she was with the Beatles on one of the early tours; I met her as a sideman in San Jose, CA in July '66. I became one of her friends for the short time we had together, then met up with her in '69 as a sideman on her album "Laurel Canyon". I am currently attempting to contact her........time will tell. She is a very smart person, and has forgotten more than most people will ever know about many things. One fine person for sure!
The Kentucky-born DeShannon was a born talent, started voice lessons at about age 3. She was one of the first female singer-songwriters of the rock 'n' roll period. This tune, her best-received, charted at number 4.
This was #1 pop in summer of 69 while I was being trained for Vietnam/Army...thought it was ironic then...and still do. Love as a pop song while all the killing was on-going.
We always liked this song on 1969 song ... so appropriate for today! Our country, and for that matter the world could use a Little Love In Everyone's Heart!
When I deployed to Iraq in 2007, I had my daughter send me an iPod with all the songs of my junior high days....just in case. Spent many a Blackhawk flight with this great classic! As timeless as when my elder brothers were in Vietnam.
I thing Jackie is one of the most under rated songwriters ever... this is beautiful and as a radio DJ for over 40 years have I played this and more of her songs!!
This summer of '69 classic is imprinted on my brain forever. Gives me goosebumps to this day. I wonder how Ed Sullivan reacted offstage to Jackie sneaking in the peace sign over & over. Ms. DeShannon, THANK YOU.
Aug 20, 2020: My high school boyfriend, Sgt Manuel R. Martinez of Albuquerque loved this song. As a naive idealist, being killed in an auto accident at 23 didn't give him time to learn that this world is run by wicked, corrupt men. There has always been an 'abundance' of resources to feed EVERYONE, so the complexity of managing 7.5 billion people remains a monumental task. *Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Romans 13:1 Sad but true.
My piano's claim to fame is that Jackie De Shannon played a few bars of this song on it while she was still writing it circa 1968. What a great song! What a great lady, too, recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and rightly so.
Kelly Hamilton You're welcome! She should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but their crooked voting system won't allow it. "Betty Davis Eyes" became #1 on the Billboard charts four days after I was born!
Vrinda Kanchan This is coming from an "obsessed" music chart researcher: just to let you know, as with all the various Billboard charts, the "official" chart date is always the week-ENDED date (in most cases a Saturday). In real time, "Bette Davis Eyes" would have become #1 on Sunday, May 10, 1981. Cheers!
1969! What a year for music. Song after song like this song had 1969 rolling in with the best music time in history. So many of my favorite songs came out that year, too much to count.💿💿💿💿💿💿......
In this crazy mixed-up world where hatred is so strong in this great country about racism is growing wild. But then we go back to Old School back in the 70s Think of your fellow man lending a helping hand Put a Little Love in Your Heart. Those words are so strong and so powerful we need to bring this back we need to stop the hatred in this world in this country another day goes by and still the Children Cry Put a Little Love in Your Heart if you want the world to know we won't let hatred grow Put a Little Love in Your Heart profound how powerful are those words everybody needs to put a Little Love in their heart we all live on one small planet and this small Galaxy and life is too short for hatred let's put a Little Love in Your Heart just my opinion thank you.
A great all-time classic tune of pure hope and joy sung and delivered sweetly here in an earthly performance of an angel. Congratulation, Jackie on being enshrined forever this week into the Hall of Fame! About time!i
On my 2nd tour in the nam in 69 this song lit me up with a smile and I decided time to go home. Song to live by and still makes me smile. We need more love in the World.
My favorite song when I served in a combat unit in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division in 1969-70. This song is eternal back then and stronger today. What a beautiful voice Jackie has.
Put a little love in your Heart❤ now that we're all going through this crisis as we're all in this together 🙏 Faith in God the Almighty and Jesus Christ 🙏❤🙏
Much like 1975, this year was made for fabulous music. Her lyrics were aimed at today's state of affairs, 48 years later. Thank you for the memories. Released on June 14, 1969, reaching # 4 on August 30.
This song is written by Jackie DeShannon, her brother Randy Myers and Jimmy Holiday. It was first performed by Jackie DeShannon in 1969. It was used on the Australian television drama "Love Child" season 2 episode 8. This drama takes place in Sydney in 1970. The song is well-chosen for this drama.
I don't have the 45 but do have the original album of the same title along with a cpl of other of her albums. She can make any song she sang sound great. I don't think she does any tours these days but if she did she is one I'd want to see for sure.
Love this innocence's some day I hope we can do what this song brings, her voice, stunning beauty and emotion r what is missing in today's music .......
This song played in 1969, I was 14 years old and it was during the Vietnam War. Memories of hearing about a friend's cousin being killed in Vietnam. We needed Love.....the war went on for almost 3 more years' a treaty was signed in January 1973.
I just thought of this song, today. In the movie, Scrooged, Bill Murray sings this song with the cast and then includes the entire audience watching the movie! I can't get it out of my head and feel it is so needed right now.
I just saw a commercial on TV done with this song. I had to Google to find the version I remember and it's this one. It's older than I thought and I didn't know the singer also co-wrote it. Luv it!
That's why I luv the internet. I see someone and can't place them or hear a song and 90% of the time I can find out who it is...instead of racking my brain and hoping to remember. LOL
My goal is to not have angry or hateful thoughts for 24 hours! Sounds ridiculous, but I've pent up so much pain. I am so tired of anger - I only want and need love! God bless everyone! I need strength.
The thing with Jackie DeShannon is that she did not seem to like publicity. Is she still living today, she seems to have totally disappeared, I don't know. Her great hit songs from the 1960's are still wonderful and timeless today but you absolutely never see or hear from today in 2023. Such a loss.
During this crisis everyone should "Put A little Love In your Heart".
Absolutely, medicine for our hard world.
Amen.
Agreed. A little love would be a good thing.
Is the World listening??? Put a little Love in your heart!❤
LOL!! It's amazing how only something like this resounds during a crisis. Try putting a little love in you heart before, during and after a crisis. I'll never understand the common person. I am the same age...grew up in LA, remember hearing this down at Huntington Beach in the summer of 1969...wasn't life better then? So much innocence
THIS SONG needs more airtime now - more than ever before!
yep......... :-)
Yes.
.
Only thing gonna save us. Please Lord may we put a little more love in our hearts ❤️
If you think the world is full of hate, you've been watching too much mainstream media. Turn that shit off.
Absolutely! Have to have SOMETHING to counteract all the hate speech from the Leftist Socialist DemonRats!
I am 74 now and enjoy the oldies. They keep me feeling young
Still on this world? Are you?
How bad I miss the 60's and 70''s !!!!!! Beautiful music and beautiful women !!!!!
I was serving in Vietnam at the time. 68-69-70. I loved it. We needed love then and we need it now!
Thank you Glen for serving our country
Thank you. Thank you too Wah.
You said it brother. What are the chances of bumping into another Glenn spelled with 2 n’s?

This song puts lots of luv on my heart
I just don't understand the (currently) 208 people that would "thumbs down" this song?!?!?! One of the best of the era and this era has the best music EVER!!!!

Jackie is the original singer of this song.
Thank you for posting!
I love this song/version. The version by Dave Clark Five is one of my favourite versions of the song
she's not only the original singer - she was the original composer (along with her brother and another guy)

You said it very well

Gotta love some Jackie!
Blue-eyed soulful Diva's anthem "Put A Little Love In Your Heart" is a timeless classic as is Jackie DeShannon...lady you nail this one big time!!!

It was a simpler time and a great time to be a teen and beyond. It seemed like so much was possible, and music spoke to those hopes.
