This channel is my first point of call after ordering any new phone. The presentation and testing is awesome. Unbiased and informal, without it being sponsored and endorsed. Keep up the great work.
You know, tempered glass screen covers are designed to shatter at a certain impact kind of like crumple zones on a car. An extremely shatter resistant screen protector isn't necessarily better
Not exactly. Screen protectors are not cars. As long as the impact is fully distributed across the majority of the screen protector, then it is doing its job. Just because it isn't shattering doesn't mean it's worse. At least you know that you won't have to replace your screen protector. If your screen protector isn't breaking, more than likely your screen won't either. How many times has anyone ever seen a screen protector survive and the underlying screen shatter instead? I'm gonna guess next to no one has. Certainly I'm no saying it's not possible, though I'm not sure one that could even exists.
I saw a post on Reddit today that said the protector didn't break but the screen did lol, I've seen it a handful of times over the years. They don't usually go to the very edge so a corner impact can get to the screen without even touching the protector if there's no case on the phone.
Yes I would not recommend for anyone to buy the Spigen or Caseology ones until they changed their design. Whitestone EA is much better and what the Spigen/Caseology should have been.
I got it to work by using the Spigen case not the guide that comes with it, the black borders aren't a problem now, I agree tho it's a bad design with the black border
I don't usually comment but this video is exactly what I was looking for to determine which screen protector I wanted. This was extremely helpful! Thank you!
Thank you for taking the time to comment, knowing the video helps out makes it all worth it. I will be reviewing some cases but not enough for a best and worst video. I appreciate your support and again really happy I could help.
I have the Spigen screen protector but I am considering one that doesn't have the black border. I will say though that no matter the price every single pack should give you atleast two screen protectors, it's pretty bogus that some of the more expensive ones only give you one.
@@Zoobyy I ended up biting the bullet and switched to a dome glass screen protector. I've used them on my S22U and N20U in the past and done the installation so many times that it's not hard to do anymore lol. ah nice. I might switch to the dome glass too eventually. Used it on my previous phones and its so good. Forgot to mention this spigen one gets lifted up by my spigen case so had to put some paper in the top corners to stop it.@@NonLegitNation2
Can't believe I watch the whole thing 😂 and damn! This is what a in depth video should be. Congratulations! And thanks! This is going to be very helpful
thank you for taking the time to do this. Going forward may I make a suggestion on your technique. To reduce the risk of dust getting trapped under the screen protector. When ready to put it on before peeling off the protective layer, hold it low and close to the phone already. You seem to always hold the screen protector and removing the protective film like a foot above the phone. When you do this, the higher you have it equals more distance you need to put it down, and on the way risks getting dust trapped on the adhesive part. Start lower, remove the film right above the screen and then put it down. less chance of dust in the air getting trapped on the sticky part.
you could even just peel off a bit off the top to start, and put on your phone align it first, and then slide off the film while simultaneously pressing down on top of the protector as you go sliding off the film underneath.... (get it?)
That's what I call in-depth. Many thanks. I see lots of complaints about the black borders on the Spigen and Caseology ones (surely they are identical anyway as Spigen owns Caseology). I wonder what possessed someone to decide to put a black border on them in the first place, it beggars belief. Amfilm looks like the one I'd choose.
Great review on a lot of different choices! A couple of the older popular brands surprised me. I was hoping you were going to do a drop test on the Whitestone Dome Glass protector. I put one on my wife's new Pixel 8 Pro yesterday and was very disappointed that I couldn't find any videos or decent instructions for the install. It worked out fine, but was a bit nerve wracking. I noticed yours came in a Pixel 7 Pro box just like the one we ordered for my wife. I hope hers works as well as the one I put on my own Pixel 6 Pro nearly 2 years ago. Thanks again for the extensive testing.
The whitestone are nice. I've already cracked 2 however dropping my phone when getting out of the truck but saved the screen. They crack pretty easy from what I can tell because I broke the first just carrying it in my pocket. Must have stressed it somehow
I had to use one of those UV glue-on protectors for my old Samsung due to the ultrasonic reader not be able to work with a stick-on protector. Very finicky to install. And then when it finally cracks you need to do it again. One reason I'm on a Pixel now.
Useful info and great details to educate consumers. Quick note on ball bearing impact test, perhaps move the impact site each time so that repeated impacts on the same site does not confound subsequent trials.
I came here from the pixel 7 video!! nice ! I'd like to see the Skinomi film protector tested. Also you should test the cameras with flash, and with night sight. The reason is to check for lens flares due to the extra glass layer.
People said to avoid the AmFilm due to the edges not sticking, yet i didn't notice that in the video. I'm using the Ringke tempered glass and the edges do not stick. I figured I'd just leave it for now so i have something protecting the screen. Hopefully some of the companies release an improved product in the upcoming months.
My Ringke sat perfectly. It could be your method of application, take time to press out all the bubbles from the center outward and hopefully it should be good. Nevertheless the pack comes with 2 so perhaps within a year (which are usually the lifespan of these things) then swap out to the new one.
@vipergod2000 My first try was off, but the second is perfectly straight judging by the alignment with the front camera, both edges do not stick, zero bubbles otherwise. It's very possible that there's a good batch and a bad batch that shipped out. Reviews are mixed.
I'm happy with my Ringke TGSP. Edge does stick here, maybe a bad batch indeed. Only a better/foolproof guide would be useful, my protector is a hair off.
A common complaint among most visor protectors is that they cover up the temp sensor, rendering it useless. Are there any screen protectors that provide a cut out for the temp sensor?
Actually I don't know if the Samcorn it's a better option compared to the other screen protectors. I mean the scope of a screen protector is to avoid damages to the original one, so better energy absorption, better protection. If the samcorn breaks at higher energy, it can mean two things: or it has better energy absorption properties (it absorbs more energy) or actually it is flexing/deforming more than the others (so it trasmits some of this energy to the display below). A more accurate test would be to have a force sensor just below the screen protector to see how much force is applied to the phone display
It would have been great if he found a way to keep dropping it higher so that we did eventually find the break point, and what type of break/crack would occur. But in the absence of that information, it probably makes more sense to buy the screen protector that doesn't crack at 6ft vs the ones that do.
Great video, can you add which ones had thermometer cutouts on the back? I bought an Amazon tempered glass protector, and with the camera rectangle added the temperature sensor stopped working because there was no cutout! @@Sleventvno worries bud. Yeah I wanted that same case but needed sometime for now so I grabbed a ringke fusion matte case and frankly I love it so I'll probably stick with it. I have the official Google charge dock and it still works fine.
at around 12:01 you are able to see the ring light for face id cut off by the border, though doesn't interfere with the selfie camera, which many people don't like because it means they are losing screen real estate even if it is just a minimal amount, a loss is a loss.
@@Erza69I have this protector installed and my ring light is not cut off. I don't think I'm losing out on any of my screen, and those black edges will help mask any dust or debris. Fingerprints are minimal and it survived the 6 foot drop.

@@Sleventvno worries bud. Yeah I wanted that same case but needed sometime for now so I grabbed a ringke fusion matte case and frankly I love it so I'll probably stick with it. I use magnetic mounts all over (not magsafe) and found that a small metal plate just below the camera bump still works to mount it but doesn't interfere (to an appreciable degree, I'm sure it's slightly less efficient) with wireless charging. I have the official Google charge dock and it still works fine.
I wasn't prepared for that thumb.
I'm confused by why people are hating on the spigen.. the borders land on where the bezels are. It's not blocking any of my screen?
at around 12:01 you are able to see the ring light for face id cut off by the border, though doesn't interfere with the selfie camera, which many people don't like because it means they are losing screen real estate even if it is just a minimal amount, a loss is a loss.
@@Erza69I have this protector installed and my ring light is not cut off. I don't think I'm losing out on any of my screen, and those black edges will help mask any dust or debris. Fingerprints are minimal and it survived the 6 foot drop.
apparently a lot of people have a really bad experience with spligen

This screen protactor is driving me nuts lol cajt wait to take it off lol
Thabk you for taking the time to do these tests. I'm sorry, but I don't think I will watch an hour and a half video on this. Could you put an order of your recommended or like a '4/5' next to each tested so I can see which ones are also compatible with the non-pro?
Zagg... $60 for a screen protector 🤣 sorry, but anyone who pays that literally has no concept of what they're actually buying.
Chapters? Vid is way too long to not use them.
watch 2x speed
@@FluxFresh96 that's not a solution to not being able to jump to segments. YT added the feature for a reason. Creators should continue to upgrade their content.
@@vvorthabillyI see chapters added, must've added it afterwards.
LK 👍🏼
You have an expensive glass covering the cameras and you opt for a cheesy $9 plastic over the cameras for protection lol what a waste lol good luck in getting the best out of the cameras now.
If you read reviews, a lot of people are seeing scratches on their Pixel 8s after only 1-2 months. So it makes sense to use a screen protector.
Someone please just tell me the best one
