MELANIE'S DEATH SCENE

  • Melanie was cautioned to not become pregnant again after the life threatening birth of her son, Beau. She longed so for another child that she foolishly braved ahead and conceived. She died from complications of this pregnancy. Staying up for hours on end to comfort a distraught Rhett after Bonnie’s death undoubtedly added to her physical strain.

    Rest in piece Olivia. Ironic how Melanie passed in the movie but outlived the cast in real life. She will live on through the legacy of her movies. RIP. 1st July 1916 - 25th July 2020🕊

    Scarlett both disdained and admired Melly but knew inside that she was her most sincere friend

    I'd love to have a friend like Melanie. All heart, always ready to support the people in need, and someone you can trust.

      Wouldn't we all. It's the 21st century. These type of beautiful, genuine people hardly exist anymore ESPECIALLY in the south. My mother may have been one of the last.

      Same here. I about fall apart during this scene every time. It got even more emotional once my mom passed away. Her favorite movie and favorite character. Whenever I reach this moment I try to distract myself by going to the kitchen or bathroom lol

      So sad to hear that... I've never been such a great fan of classic Hollywood, but I know she was a great actress. Her performance in this movie is just an example. RIP.

    In the book, Scarlett strived to be like her mother. Yet it was Melanie that was most like Ellen.

    You know Scarlett’s feelings toward Melanie are exactly like how most sisters feel about each other. She was jealous of Melanie and viewed her as a rival yet at the same time she loved her and would not hesitate to help her if she needed it. That’s how my sister and I are.

    This is without a doubt one the most heartbreaking scenes in movie history. Probably holds the top spot on my list. It kills me every time I get to this part, or hear this piece of music from the soundtrack. I always dread starting the movie because I know I'm coming to this moment eventually lol

    I think it was at this moment that Scarlett realized that Melanie was the best friend she ever had. I mean think about it, even when Scarlett was a complete jerk to her Melanie never judged her or condemned her. She loved Scarlett in spite of all her faults and even defended her. Melanie was one of those rare people who could love a person unconditionally for who they were even if they never changed or showed the same love back to her.

    Why does she say "never let him know"?
    What doesnt she want Ashleigh to know?

    • @andrewrau7516
      @andrewrau7516 4 роки тому +6

      Because Ashleigh is a proud southern man. Knowing Melanie asked Scarlett to do this could make him feel like she didn't have complete confidence in him or he wasn't strong enough to make it without her. You DON'T kill a southern gentleman's pride lol

    I've always wondered what the "complications from pregnancy " that she died from, actually were. And if its something that would be no big deal if it happened now vs the 1860s. Know what I mean? & it was something they knew enough about back then, to tell her NOT to have another child bc its life threatening. 🤔 so was she like, bleeding out slowly or something? Idk enough about deadly birth complications but I do know they are super real & still happen to this day...but it's just extremely rare now especially compared to hundreds of years ago. I'll probably just Google it.

      One of the complications from pregnancy is a ruptured tubal pregnancy. Once the Fallopian tube bursts, surgery is required to save the mother's life. If there is no intervention, she will bleed to death internally. I believe that is what happened to Melanie Wilkes.
