Nice man, Van Damme, his respect for Bruce Lee is as clear as day. He never understimates the significance of Bruce lee and his contribution to the martial arts and humanity.
JCVD has BIG BALLS. Much respect to JCVD because he is truthful to himself. Most martial artists want to be like Bruce Lee but are so jealous of Bruce Lee. They are not being truthful so they will live with the lie in their hearts. JCVD opens his heart and be truthful so again Great respect and JCVD is a legend in his own way.
@@user-do2tn9ci8t it's ok to like them both. :) Each artist has their own gift. Respect both, appreciate both. That's why there is more than one martial artist.
The world lost a very special person when Bruce Lee passed. Not only was he basically a martial arts legend in his own lifetime, he was also a very smart person. A scholar and philosopher.
Unlike the jealous ones claim, I know Bruce was a martial artist first, and then an actor. I grew up during his time, and I seen Bruce when I was a small child. He was explosive, and I truly do believe the best martial artist in history. I seen the guy not only break boards but also bricks. People just don't think. Have you ever seen how that evil dictator Kim Jun Un's body guards train? One of them would destroy any MMA fight in a real fight it's a fact. Those guys are beasts, but Bruce would've beat even them. A real fight is still different. People might claim that boards and bricks don't hit back, but if someone gets hit by a person, let's say Bruce Lee, who can shatter a brick with a one inch punch, that'll be it. One of two things will happen. It will either be the hospital or the graveyard. Furthermore, Bruce was so fast that the camera couldn't pick him up. He was the fastest man in the world. That was proven so he would've hit them before they even realized he hit them and that would have been game over. Wow! Some people just don't get it! Bruce was the real deal.
Much respect for you Jean Claude Van Damme how you talk about the legend Bruce Lee. This makes you more a better person than you already was. Love your movies and your character as human being!!
Very calm and honest testimony on the part of Jean-Claude Van Damme for such a small man (Bruce was about 5'7'') that touched so many people in a big way.
Jean-Claude Van Damme Bruce Lee was one of the greatest professional fighters of all time I miss him a lot I loved his films including return of the dragon enter the dragon the Chinese connection and those movies was one of the greatest movies of all time
Some may disagree but bruce lee changed the world with his passion for the martial arts, and sharing his gift and philosophy through his films, with Van Damme coming in a close second, just my opinion but these guys meant the world to me and still do
Wow Again!!!!! Very humble, and speaking from your heart. JC you just explained how I felt about you when I was growing up as a teen. That was truly heart felt!!!!!!!!!!
Wow that was a great video, and tribute to Bruce Lee. I too also view Bruce Lee as a mentor. Bruce Lee is the reason why I'm so fascinated with martial arts. And why I want to learn everything about martial arts. Thank you for this video, and thank you Bruce for being a strong influence in my life.
very sincere and honest tribute! bruce lee inspired many people and some of them became world champions and famous actors because of his influence! very well said!
JC said it all. Perfect words about Bruce Lee. Jean Claude is right. And is not arrogant or ignorant about the Legend, Bruce Lee ! Like Steven Segal. The media asked Segal if he thot Bruce Lee was the best martial artist in history. And Segal said NO in a very arrogant and selfish way jajaja !!!! But Bruce wud kick ur ass, Steven, if he was alive jajajaaa.....
Segal is a joke...a fat joke! There was a famous true story years ago about JCVD challeging Segal to a fight at Stallone's house while a party was going on. He pist JCVD to the point where he called him out in front of Stallone and everyone and Segal pussied out and left knowing Van Damme is in better shape than he is! I hated Segal since the 90's!
van damme surely grew with times, a top notch martial artist with progressive wisdom to life, that is most important. its unfortunate seagul didnt move on.
After watching your truthful honestly to Bruce Lee and his Martial Atrs Skill, how you feel about Bruce, what he meant to you. JCVD you are a man i'm proud of to honestly expressing what Bruce was all about. You are the next generation of Martial Arts after Bruce Lee. I hope Chuck Norris learn some lesson here after watching the one and only JCVD talks about Bruce Lee.
Very nice and kind words about Bruce Lee!! Bruce Lee will always be in my heat as well!! I can say, you honestly will be as well Jean Claude Van Damme from all your movies. From Bloodsport, Double Impact, Hard Target and many more!!! I train as well because not only Bruce Lee, but you inspired me a lot as well JCVD!!

waw thank you too van dam. what a great guy. i really got even more respect for you today after hearing this. most guy dont hv the guts to say someone us better then them at one thing or another or cant say they look up to some other martial artist in the way u said. your a brilliant guy.
I would have liked to see Van Damme with Bruce Lee in a combat scene, it would be mythical and unforgettable, love you Van Damme and forever will love Bruce Lee.
No matter what some might say about JCVD..good or bad....he's always been respectful of other martial arts film stars. Past or present. Never to step on any toes (e.g. Steven Segal). It's undeniable and amazing how many people Bruce Lee inspired in his short time...I'd say of about 5 or 6 years just before his death (when he was making his mark). To have made literally MILLIONS of people want to "be like Bruce Lee" or just to study martial arts. Or to use his life philosophies to be better in what they do. So that we're still talking about him 40+ years after his death. THAT is incredible. That people are still studying JKD. He was NOT a complete martial artist yet "talk a lot". Yes, he could kick and punch. Introduced martial arts weapons to the public. But he never competed. thus, he was never proven. And for me...that means all his talk about how to better strike or fight has no weight. That JKD isn't an art to be taken seriously....why? Bruce put it together without completely studying any martial art. never even mastering a single one. So, how can he (or any one) say what works and what doesn't??? Had he learnt ALL of what there was to learn in ALL the arts he studied...THEN he would be in a place to say something about them. Now had Bruce Lee competed first at the amateur level in some style of martial arts. Beat ALL he fought with ease. Then fount at the elite level. Defeated ALL of them...with EASE. THEN challenged world champions. Beat all of THEM...w/o breaking a sweat. THEN his talk would have meant something. I'd hold him with the utmost respect. But as he was...I'll remember him as a great charsmatic martial arts film star (NOT a "fighter"). I'd say he was the JCVD of the early 70's. Had his own style on-screen. Even JCVD competed...in Belgium..I think in point-fighting. And won at some level.
Everyone talks shit about Bruce, the only ones who didnt were Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, and JCVD. These three guys, are badass to give Bruce Lee the respect he deserved, but also give a small, non arguementative, comparison between them.
Chris jT And why the tournament theme in all of them ? Why Bolo in Bloodsport ? " Bricks don't hit back " ? Stolen from boards don't hit back ? Bruce Lee was blinded by the hall of mirrors in ETD. JCVD was blinded by the cheat dust by Bolo in Bloodsport . Kickboxer, JCVD goes to avenge his brother's death. In a tournament? Hmm, Bruce Lee in ETD goes to the tournament and avenges his sister's death.
wow Jean, I haven't seen much of you around. I still like your kickboxer and Bloodsport movies since the late 80's. Bruce Lee had a personal worldview of seeing all humans as capable of learning and being their personal best. Bruce Lee will always be my inspiration if I ever learn any discipline of martial art, whether it be Ninjutsu/taijutsu, karate, kung fu, grappling, boxing, Muay Thai Chiaya, Sambo, Krav Maga, Kenpo, Wrestling, etc...
Van Damme is great example who knows martial arts with true skill, but can be honest to tell who he will look up to and try to learn from Master. He knows that Bruce Lee really is best of all time. Damme honors the great one from the heart. Thanks for this Mr. Van damme. 👍 Here is Honors Bruce also ua-cam.com/video/6bbw3Qd2zzY/v-deo.html
In those time he really was, karate was only starting in Europe, USA mainly IMO Shotokan with rather poor abilities of then practicing. The only person who also was very serious and master was Masutatsu Oyama (kyokushin karate), quite different style, more emphasis on strength, power of fists e.tc. cause evolving from Shotokan and Okanawa-te styles. These 2 great Masters were on their own living in different places (Honk-Kong and the US, 2nd Japan with Korean roots). May be I was helpful? Regards
