This was the song back in the 80s. I loved me some Hall & Oats growing up! This is blue eyed soul at it's best! The Philly Boy's is in the building! #80s4life ❤
One of my favourite videos, too. Love the humour, with Charlie DeChant playing so smoothly. He's been part of their band for many years. He is so talented! Love Daryl and John. Have followed them since the very early 80s. Had all theyr albums on vinyl and subsequently on CD. They are incomparable.
This song is "BLISS" ! I got to see Hall & Oates in the early 80's after this song came out and they were incredible Live ! Also love how you guys don't interrupt the video !
Iam 46 years old I remember hearing these songs when I was 10 grew up on these legends It just hard to believe that some many people haven’t heard these great artists. Late 60s 70s and 80s and early 90s by far the best music ever no comparison. 😎
Yup. It’s weird and disturbing how well crafted music has just fallen off the face of the earth. I think there’s a lot of factors that contributed to the decline but everything today feels machine made. I don’t think kids are picking up instruments like they used to either. The internet changed everything.
They actually performed this song at The Apollo back in the '80's right after it came out! The video is on UA-cam!! I love this song and most all their other music as well!
My brother,I need that t shirt you have on man.I was the biggest Miami Vice fan back in 84 when I was in high school.Me and my homies couldn't hang out until after it went off at 10pm on Friday night!!!!
YOU GUYS NEED TO DO 'LIVE' FROM DARYL'S HOUSE WITH ( CEE LO GREEN ) LOL :) IT'S REALLY GOOD AND THEY JUST GET FUNKY WITH IT! :) AND YESSSSS, HALL N OATES HAD LOTSAAAA HITS YOU GUYS! : MANEATER, SARAH SMILE, KISS IS ON MY LIST, WELL THERE'S 3 OF UM FOR YOU. HAVE FUN, STAY WELL!
Check out the music coming from Daryl's House...he performs this with Cee Lo Green, Smoky robinson and others. He's still rockin at 70 years old and looks great.
one on one is so great...good choices you wrote. they had so many great songs. I was really little when they were in their prime, but I remember hearing them on the radio on all the stations. im white, but my father was a bass player in a band and thankfully introduced me to all the great black music (smokey Robinson, earth wind and fire, parliament etc etc) ....hall and oates were one of those acts who crossed over..they were on pop, rock , and r&b stations...my father listened to all the different genres and they were on all the stations.. hall and oates started out with alot of the Philly soul groups back in the early 70s even though they were white. they had legit cred with the black artists of the day...sorry for the history lesson, but you picked some great songs so I wanted to respond.
you are so damn right: i've listend to that song a hundred times, but never got it this way: ... almost anything... you want my soul... i can't go for that.... 😂😂😂 daryl you're comin so smooth and then this lyrics, it's just 😂
It's not about a woman although it sounds like it could be. They were famous for their songs meaning several things. They wrote about how the music industry treated them during their early career and how the music company wanted to tell them what music they could do and how to do it. They decided on the album before this one to write, compose, arrange and produce the music they wanted without interference. Their 1980 album Voices had 3 hits and another song was covered by the British singer Paul Young in 1985. They went on to become the biggest duo of the 80's, yet they started in 1973 with She's Gone, Sara Smile in 1976 and Rich Girl in 1977. Another one of their songs, Maneater, people think is about a lady only deceptively is written that way to disguise New York of the 80's is like an ugly but beautiful, materialistic, selfish woman. They also had solo careers, as well as, toured up until 2019 until Covid hit. Daryl started doing an award winning online streaming show, Live From Daryl's House in 2007 (You can find the past episodes on UA-cam) and soon opened a restaurant where he could have live acts. He also restored a 200 year old farmhouse that he calls home. John put out his memoirs - Change Of Seasons and put out his own album Arkansas in 2018 with the title song being a stand out. He tours by himself singing his own songs or his own arrangements of the duos hits. They are a great musical trail if you ever want any song bread crumbs, ask me.
Glad someone told them.. I knew.. but you said the motivation for the writing of this song so well. I watched a history of them.. personal lives too.. and I can't listen to some of the songs without thinking the personal things going on that inspired the songs.
My favorite of their discography. Many other great options mentioned below. This particular one was a message to the music industry - Hall and Oates were fed up with their demands. Check out the Cee-Lo Green Daryl's House version - it is pretty epic.
Quite a rabbit hole with Hall & Oates. I recommend most of their tunes. And don't forget to stop at Daryl's house to see all those great episodes. ua-cam.com/video/A9TFNKPHQng/v-deo.html

Not for nothing, but why are you so late when it comes to hearing this? I think you should understand Daryl Hall especially his history. John Oates the little guy wasn’t shit. Hall & Oat Was inducted to the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame a few years back. They grew up on black music. But stop acting so shocked like you I can’t believe it’s a white boys singing

great reaction guys! They kept the philadelphia sound alive in the 80's.
Came for Hall and Oates and stayed to subscribe to Wayne & Crissy - Happy New Year all!
best duo of the rock era
Fun Fact: The bass line for this inspired Michael Jackson for "Billie Jean".
It also inspired Simply Red for "Sunrise"....
The fact is that he bought the rights from Hall and Oates.
I can hear it
